Welcome to Xbox Game Passengers. Once a month, host Derek and a guest will dissect and discuss just one game available on Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service, which was chosen for them (usually) at random. Whether the game is a magical or a horrible experience, they'll force themselves through it, share their thoughts, and let you know whether or not the game is worth your time! At the end of each episode, they'll also randomly select the game for the following show, so you always know what's coming up on the next adventure. We're (finally) back to some female representation as Mikaela re-joins the show to chat about 2019's very pretty sadness simulator, Sea of Solitude. Will Mikaela cry before the end of the episode? You'll have to listen to find out, but damn this game was depressing. When humans get too lonely, they turn into monsters… Sea of Solitude takes you on a personal journey of a young woman's loneliness. Set sail across a beautiful and evolving world, where nothing is quite what it seems. Meet fantastical creatures and monsters, learn their stories, and solve challenges. Explore a flooded city, either by boat, on foot, or by swimming through the water itself. Dare to look what lies beneath the surface, in a haunting struggle of darkness and light, and discover what it truly means to be human. Let's get this out of the way first: there are a LOT of video games available, including a lot of games that don't require you to kill people and don't involve Mario, Luigi, Wario, or Waluigi. And among those are several games that approach mental health issues in a truthful and sympathetic way. These games, often made by small independent studios, might take place in fantastical worlds but they can involve honest examinations of depression, trauma, and anxiety. And playing the games can bring a lot more insight and relief to the player than you might think. We talk with Maddy Myers of the Max Fun podcast Triple Click for her recommendations on enlightened independent games and Gregory Lobanov, creator of the game Chicory: A Colorful Tale.Listen to Triple Click on the podcatcher of your choice. What if Jaws was actually about loneliness… and also had multiple monsters? On the surface, this episode is about is a platforming adventure game developed by Jo-Mei Games and published by Electronic Arts. Lurking below, however, is a story about coming to grips with depression and its many causes. How will we feel about tackling such a sobering narrative? Will the gameplay be compelling enough to keep us playing after the hour is up? This game may be about unraveling a mystery, but our thoughts on the matter don't need to remain hidden in the deep. In this episode, Kyleia and I go for a swim in the deep waters of emotion as we take on a game that deals with a lot of things that can really be tough to handle. Sea of Solitude is an adventure video game developed by Jo-Mei Games and published by Electronic Arts. The game was released for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in July 2019. A director's cut version of the game was announced at The Game Awards 2020, unlike the original version, the game is published by Quantic Dream and was released exclusively for Nintendo Switch in March 2021. Man, we had way too much fun recording this episode.Dillon & Warren start the show off talking about our favorite Arizona Ice tea flavors, seamlessly transition into the huge video game news about Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild 2 then move on to talking about two different video games because Warren misunderstands Dillon's suggestion resulting in so very funny miscommunication. We're taking a well-earned break from all the shooting this week, as we push the boat out into the Sea of Solitude. You may think that game is a huge departure from our usual fare, and you'd be right - David accidentally picked this game, and we still don't know what he mistook it for. Let nobody say we aren't committed, though (unless your game is Narita Boy), as we ploughed on through the literal and figurative storms in Jo-Mei Games' 2019 puzzle-platformer, and now we're here to discuss it. We chat about the mechanics of the game, its various metaphorical representations of mental health, the cast of characters and how empathetic they made us feel, and whether any game should really try and cover mental health issues when they can be so personal and subjective. Don't forget (as in, one of you please do this) to rate/subscribe on your favourite pod platform of choice. It'll make us really happy chaps if you do!

Carl and Ryan break down sea of Solitude a fantastic game about loneliness mental health trauma and dealing with it.
Composer Guy Jackson is the featured guest on this Score to Screen podcast. The Sea of Solitude composer shares details about challenges he faced translating the heavy emotional themes from the video game as well as discusses the exciting experience of arranging tone poems for each character. Sea of Solitude takes you on a personal journey of a young woman's loneliness. As the gameplay unfolds, set sail across a beautiful and evolving world, where nothing is quite what it seems. Based in North London, Guy Jackson specializes in highly crafted layered musical compositions, amalgamating acoustic and electronic sounds while encompassing both classical and ambient genres. His work is perfectly suited to the silver screen, enhancing and supporting the mood and tone of a broad variety of visual content. Guy is the resident composer and sound designer for Berlin-based online game creators, Jo-Mei Games. He scored and produced the sound effects for titles such as Koyotl, Who Let the Pets Out? and Monkey Bay. Another of the titles that benefited from the Guy Jackson treatment, Brave Little Beasties (published 2013), was rated 10/10 for sound by Browsergame-magazin.de ─ proof, if ever there was any doubt, that a Guy Jackson score will enhance your visual creative. In association with his long-term collaborator, pedal steel guitarist BJ Cole, Guy produced two CDs with the critically acclaimed Transparent Music project, which features musicians such as the legendary Davy Spillane, trumpeter Arve Henriksen, bassist Mo Foster and slide guitarist Michael Messer. The Score to Screen podcast series is produced and hosted by Crossover Media's Max Horowitz. Listen to the Sea of Solitude Soundtrack here. Listen to the official Filtr Gamer Fuel playlist here.
Ob berittener Bankraub in You Are A Horse, Monster-Dating in Kaiju Super Datetech, nach Gurkenwasser duftenden Menschen in Smile For Me oder fernsehschauende Lamas in Llama Villa: Der Abstrusität sind hier fast keine Grenzen gesetzt. Im Cast besprochene Spiele: Smile For Me, Block'Hood, Llama Villa, Egypt: Old Kingdom, You Are A Horse, Kaiju Super Datetech, Sea Of Solitude

Folge direkt herunterladen
