Dr. Jay Calvert & Dr. Jason Berkley chat with former NHL goalie John Blue! Who's got the goalie, or goalie tandem, to take them all the way this year? Blue and the boys discuss Shahob's beard, shrinkage, the strongest 1-2 goalie tandems, Bobrovsky, the tight race in the East, Shesterkin, the Red Wings slide, Demko, key moves at the deadline for Vegas and Vancouver, Dallas Stars, the tale of two cities in Edmonton, raising the cap, Cup favorites, and more!
Kevin Constantine joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! But before we get to Kevin Constantine (33:57), Sheng and Keegan discuss the latest additions to the San Jose Sharks staff like Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek (1:10), and what the Miller hiring signals about the Sharks' continued investment in player development (8:20). They also reflect on former Sharks' first-round pick Ryan Merkley signing in the KHL (14:45). Sheng shares an NHL scout's thoughts on new Sharks players Mikael Granlund (23:12), Mike Hoffman (27:42), and Jan Rutta (30:32). Now, Kevin Constantine (33:57)! Constantine recalled coaching influences as diverse as Phil Jackson, Bill Walsh, Bo Schembechler, and John Wooden (36:40). What was Constantine's hockey take on Wooden's Pyramid of Success? He coached the Kalamazoo Wings when they were a Minnesota North Stars affiliate, before the North Stars split up to help form the expansion Sharks (45:15). So Constantine coached the legendary Link Gaetz, and tells the story of when Gaetz beat up his own goalie. Constantine took over behind the San Jose Sharks bench in the third year of the franchise, after they had only won 28 games in their first two seasons in the league. How did he add belief and discipline to a 1993-94 group that would go on a surprise playoff run, upsetting the top-seeded Detroit Red Wings in the first round (49:35)? That season, Constantine made the unusual coaching decision to allow five players a lot more latitude offensively than the rest of the team. Those five, Igor Larionov, Sergei Makarov, Johan Garpenlov, Sandis Ozolinsh, and Jeff Norton, were the precursor to Detroit's Russian Five, and would help propel the Sharks to success. What was behind Constantine loosening the reins on Larionov and company (53:52)? And how are Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan's recent comments about integrating Erik Karlsson related (57:53)? Constantine shares why he wasn't happy about the city of San Jose throwing the Sharks a parade after their second-round loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs (1:04:00). Constantine says he was in “Dumb and Dumber” and talks about how that movie and Jamie Baker helped inspire the '94 Sharks (1:07:20). Constantine reveals Tom Pederson's girlfriend as the culprit behind leaking the Red Wings' playoff plans to the Sharks (1:10:35). He also recounts going with backup Wade Flaherty over Arturs Irbe in the 1995 playoffs, which helped propel the San Jose Sharks to another first-round upset, this time against the Calgary Flames (1:17:25). Constantine opens up about getting fired by the San Jose Sharks early in the 1995-96 season (1:20:02). He was 37 then, and up to that point, a bit of a coaching wunderkind, so he took it hard. Though he was a young head coach, Constantine says that he was a yeller who learned to relate to players a lot better as he got older, in the second half of his career (1:23:35). After head coaching stints with Jaromir Jagr's Penguins and Martin Brodeur's New Jersey Devils, Constantine continued coaching in the NAHL, WHL, and AHL. In 2010, he got offered a coaching position in France, and was advised by multiple hockey people to not take that job. But he did, why (1:35:25)? This started an international coaching odyssey that's taken him also to professional leagues in Switzerland, Korea, Poland, and Hungary. He reflects on those experiences. Constantine closes with a couple hilarious Jagr stories (1:42:08). Finally, we wrap up with Constantine's thoughts about taking over new WHL side, the Wenatchee Wild (1:51:38).Listen to the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast — it's a new link — on Apple Podcasts and Spotify and Google Podcasts.Subscribe to the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast YouTube channel, we're trying to get over 1K subscribers! ★ Support this podcast ★

Happy Halloween, Everyone! In this episode, in honor of Halloween, we're talking about some of the Scary/Spooky moments in the "In Death" series. Thank you to Yvonne, Book Dragon, Tara, Rosalia, Dana and all the rest of you who gave us your input. Scary moments include: Roarke almost falling off of the top of the Statue of Liberty Eve and Roarke scrambling to get out of the Icove Building before it blew up Eve attacked by Isaac McQueen in "New York to Dallas" The entire squad was almost blown up by Lottie in "Obsession" Eve and Feeney being held hostage by Holloway Peabody in the shower overhearing Oberman and Garnett Eve trapped in a room with Alban in "Ceremony" Eve scrambling to get to Roarke before he used the VR glasses in "Rapture" Scariest Villans include: Rayleen Straffo Isaac McQueen Willow Mackie Gina McMillan John Blue Robert Lowell David Palmer Sylvester Yost. For spooky moments, we mostly look at the Novellas: Eve and Roarke first seeing the ghost of Bobbie Eve confronting the "vampire," Dorian (then sticking her finger in his glass of blood and sucking the blood off her finger...gross) Eve, Roarke and Isis performing the cleansing ritual in the hotel room where the ritual murder happened Eve being possessed, but also her seeing dead people. The doctor in Chaos changing into a monster in front of Eve. We also give our thoughts on what some of the characters in the books would dress up as for a Halloween party. Eve and Roarke as either Bonnie and Clyde or a Cop and a Convict, Mr and Mrs Mira would dress as something really classic like Robin Hood and Maid Marion and Peabody and McNab as Anna and Kristoff from Frozen? Let us know your thoughts on what you think each of the characters would dress as!! We find out that while Jen totally believes in the paranormal, Eve having a tattoo on her ankle while possessed would NEVER happen!! AJ believes in none of the paranormal stuff, but still finds reading about it creepy. Tara finds it all creepy, but also, it's all fine.

Singer, songwriter and composer of Swiss origin, David Paul is an artist who mixes musical styles to translate his emotions into melodies; from his childhood, he was immersed in music, thanks in particular to his father, a pianist. As a child, he is said to have an important imagination; later, he would actually discover that it was an extra sensitivity to melodies. He will keep this constant inventiveness as well as this need for creation as he grows up, since he will then become a beat maker, creating his own production studio at home, after which he will learn to play the guitar. "If you can, you must. " ; A real need to generate new atmospheres, David develops his art as a therapy that could help those who listen to him, thanks to its positive, luminous and meaningful aspects. Growing up in the 90's and 2000's, he was first influenced by rock, metal and grunge, especially through bands like Metallica or Nirvana. Through the encounters that punctuate his life, he apprehends new styles and tries to unravel the secrets of what attracts the public in each of them. Always keeping a philosophical look on his understanding of music, he later discovered hip hop and rap, which will create a real resonance in him. As a beat maker, he produced numerous rap productions that he shared with artist John Blue, with whom he collaborated on a regular basis. As a musician and performer, and above all a great fan of Jam Sessions, David has performed on stage many times, which has given him great live experiences that he can't wait to relive thanks to his new solo project. As a composer, David Paul seeks to develop new collaborations, in order to create productions for other artists, always in search of new harmonies. In 2020, David released his first single, which he composed and performed. Entitled "I got the Fire", this track represents an appetizer of the variety he is capable of creating; combining humorous lightness and at the same time power of meaning in the lyrics, this track is a spark ready to explode! Electro-rock-indie sounds, the instrumental of "I got the Fire" was imagined several years ago. It's only recently that David took over this project to added the final touch, which will make it a complete and surprising track! Eager for novelties, many songs from his universe are currently on the verge of being released. In February 2021, David Paul offers us a song with a summery sound, where warmth and festive atmosphere are the order of the day; eager to be positive for this new year, "Hello Paradise" will take you on the road to the sun!
