This Day in Legal History: Seventeenth AmendmentOn April 8, 1913, the Seventeenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was officially ratified, transforming the way U.S. senators are selected. Prior to this amendment, senators were chosen by state legislatures, a system intended by the framers to preserve state influence within the federal government. However, by the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this process had become widely criticized for being undemocratic and vulnerable to corruption, deadlocks, and backroom political deals.Progressive Era reformers pushed for change, arguing that direct election by the people would make senators more accountable and reduce the influence of powerful political machines. After years of public pressure and legislative debate, the Seventeenth Amendment was passed by Congress in 1912 and ratified by the necessary number of states the following year. The amendment mandates that senators be elected by the voters of each state, aligning the Senate more closely with democratic ideals already applied to the House of Representatives. It also established procedures for handling vacancies through temporary gubernatorial appointments followed by special elections. The ratification marked a major victory for advocates of electoral reform and remains one of the most significant changes to the structure of American democracy since the founding. It reshaped the relationship between the federal government and the people, moving power away from state political elites and toward the electorate.Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into WK Kellogg over claims that the company may be misleading consumers by advertising some of its cereals as “healthy.” The probe focuses on popular products like Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, and Frosted Flakes, which the state alleges contain petroleum-based artificial colorings linked to health issues such as hyperactivity and obesity. Paxton criticized the company for continuing to use these dyes in U.S. products while removing them from versions sold in Canada and Europe. He argued that it is deceptive to market cereals containing such ingredients as healthy. WK Kellogg has not yet commented on the investigation.Texas opens probe into WK Kellogg over health claims | ReutersPresident Donald Trump has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to pause a federal judge's order requiring the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a legally present Salvadoran man who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador. The Justice Department argued that the lower court overstepped its authority and that the U.S. cannot guarantee swift results in international negotiations, especially under tight deadlines. U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis had found no legal basis for Abrego Garcia's arrest or removal and ordered his return by 11:59 p.m. Monday, calling his deportation "wholly lawless."Abrego Garcia had previously won a 2019 court order protecting him from deportation due to threats from gangs in El Salvador. Despite this, he was deported on March 15 after being stopped and questioned by ICE. The administration claims he is affiliated with MS-13, but no charges have been filed, and his attorneys deny the allegation. The Supreme Court filing contends that while deporting him to El Salvador was a procedural error, the removal itself was lawful. The case is part of broader legal challenges to the Trump administration's aggressive immigration tactics and its attempts to sidestep judicial checks on deportation practices.Trump asks US Supreme Court to pause order to return man deported to El Salvador in error | ReutersA U.S. appeals court has blocked President Donald Trump from removing two Democratic members of federal labor boards, reversing a previous decision and restoring legal protections for their positions. The D.C. Circuit Court, in a 7-4 vote, reinstated lower court rulings that barred Trump from firing Gwynne Wilcox of the National Labor Relations Board and Cathy Harris of the Merit Systems Protection Board. The court reaffirmed long-standing laws that only allow such removals for neglect, malfeasance, or inefficiency—not at-will.Trump's administration argued that these protections infringe on presidential authority, and plans to appeal, potentially setting up a Supreme Court showdown. If the high court agrees to hear the case, it could revisit decades-old precedent that preserves agency independence, with potential ripple effects on bodies like the Federal Reserve and Federal Trade Commission. The judges noted that Wilcox and Harris's roles primarily involve adjudicating individual cases, not shaping executive policy, making them constitutionally protected from political dismissal. Without them, the boards would be paralyzed, with thousands of pending employee appeals left unresolved. This legal fight is part of Trump's broader effort to exert more control over independent federal agencies, a push that critics say threatens the checks and balances built into administrative law.US appeals court blocks Trump from removing Democrats from labor boards | Reuters This is a public episode. Well, that was a nice little breather from having to come up with witty things to say every morning but while Marris walked more than he has in years and Angi spent two days throwing up from heat stroke, I was drunk and watching the Lollapalooza sets from the comfort of home. With that done for the year and Metallica looming, it only makes sense to look at cool things from childhood as a Daily Discussion Topic. Well actually, that was me trying to make this more appealing because we're really going to explore things the roadies weren't allowed to do as kids that others got to do. Spawned from a point about how the royal bloodline brats are not allowed to do certain things, it's actually kind of crazy how many restrictions are put in place. For example, no shellfish (because they might be poisoned "or something" according to Angi.) No travel together (obviously.) No wearing black during the day. They are not allowed to keep gifts that they are given. They are not allowed to play Monopoly as it tends to result in fist fights (or in this case, like duels to the death.) Even though the royal kids clearly have it bad, that wasn't to say there were things that Angi and Marris weren't allowed to do. For example, Angi was never allowed to have sleepovers because her mothers husband at the time was a drunk (like step father, like daughter.) Luckily, she was allowed to stay at other peoples house which I'm sure always went down like that episode of Roseanne where Becky got a hangover after drinking "tornadoes." As for Marris, he was not allowed to have sugary cereals which meant the Marris household was all Kix and Cheerios. However, when he would go to a friend's house, he was chowing down on Apple Jacks (which if you've tasted lately, are disgusting.) I can't think of things I wasn't allowed to do, my parents allowed us to be a bit out of control and latchkey so let's go to the Request Line and the roadies, shall we. Shane wasn't allowed to watch TV at all even though his parents got to enjoy it in the comfort of their bedrooms. Joanna was not allowed to go to concerts (like Bruce Springsteen) so she just stopped telling her mom where she was going. The assumption was she would go to a concert and get loaded. Tammy was not allowed to go to all night roller rink lock ins even though her brother was. Mike was not allowed to have a TV in his room which isn't as bad as Shane at least. Angi too was not allowed to have a TV in her room and everything she watched was monitored. Roger was not allowed to keep his KIϟϟ collectors cards because they looked like "devils." Sharri was not allowed to do after school activities, go to dances, do sports or cheerleading and she never figured out why her single dad would not allow it. As for Angi, she didn't get to do stuff as well but that's because she was poor. If you are looking for more roadie thoughts or have your own, hit up our Facebook group (Angi Taylor Show) and drop us a comment.

Fuel Your Fandom touched on sitting in front of a full schedule of favorite Saturday-morning animation awhile back, and noted that the shows themselves were only part of the experience. After all, what's sitting criss-cross applesauce in front of a cartoon without some Apple JACKS and a cartoon on the front of the box? That's because somewhere along the line, Post, General Mills and Kellogg's figured out that if there was a cute character on their containers of cocoa-frosted sugar bombs, kids would be more likely to beg their parents for bowl after bowl of the stuff at the grocery store. And thus, cereal mascots were born. It's hot as fuck outside but the Grinders can take the heat! The RPgrinders are back with another episode of steaming goodness. This week they take on some of the hottest topics in the country, like library book bans, wildfires, political corruption and boobs. Lots and lots of boobs. What could be hotter than breasts? NOTHING! With the fall season right around the corner, game releases are starting to heat up! Games like Untamed Tactics and Wrestling Quest will be out by the end of August. Just a couple weeks before Autumn will also the release of the next mobile Final Fantasy game, Ever Crisis. For anyone willing to wait longer, they can look forward to the PC release of Deathbound and the unknown system release of Corpse Party 2. Seriously, they didn't tell us anything about the hardware we need to play the game. Eric strapped on his heat-resistant spy gear for this week's reviews. Not one Mission Impossible, not two Mission Impossible movies, because he reviews the first two Mission Impossible movies, and the most recent film Dead Reckoning Part 1! How do Ethan Hunt's early escapades compare to the most current Mission Impossible sequels? How do the first 2 hold up by today's standards?  Just when the temperature was beginning to cool down, the Grinders moved on to everyone's favorite segment The Stinko of the Week. Talks about wildfires and crooked Ohio politicians make Break's blood boil. Things really begin to heat up between chat and the hosts as there was a lot of disagreement over some of the country's hottest topics. The FBI killing of a disabled man making death threats and the banning of books in libraries. The chatters and hosts all see the situations from different angles. Who is wrong? Who is right? As long as we learn to get along is all that should matter. Even the Stinkos couldn't prepare the Grinders for the next upcoming battle, the second round of the Greatest Cereal in the World tournament! The heat is really on now. Only 32 cereals are left but only 16 can go on to next week. Which cereal's flames of hope will be washed away like spoiled milk down the drain? Frosted Flakes are one of the country's most popular cereals, but does it taste better than Apple Jacks? Will a Lucky leprechaun give Lucky Charms what it needs to go marshmallow to marshmallow against Count Chocula? Which cereal requires the most sugar just to be edible, is it Total, Rice Crispies, or Corn Chex? Which artificially flavored fruit cereal will survive, the Flinstone's favorite or the brand that hates silly rabbits? After losing Choclate Life will Break lose his Life and his Cinnamon Life? How many more lives does he have? He is running through them quicker than potato salad left in the sun will run through a human digestive system.  If you don't get to see the show live, you miss out on a lot of chat room shenanigans. Boobs, book bans, and boxes of cereal have lit the fires under chatters. Sometimes there is friction. Sometimes there are heated arguments. Sometimes they are given a warm reception. No matter what the topic, no subject is too hot for the Grinders!                My Childhood Friend is a Slutty School Teacher. Does she tutor adults?            "They aren't as cookie as they could be."

All this while solving crimes while driving around in a fancy car.    1984's Riptide starred Perry King as Cody Allen and solved mysteries with his friends Nick and Boz, while driving around in a fancy car.    Simon and Simon were two brothers who, while opposite in a lot of ways, were great at solving mysteries and driving around in a variety of fancy cars.    Hardcastle and McCormick premiered in 1983 and starred the legendary Brian Keith as Judge Hardcastle who is trying to catch a bunch of criminals who escaped conviction with the help of a car thief named McCormick, who drives around in a stolen fancy car.    Hunter set the stage for overly-macho guys who carry big guns, but sometimes have a female partner. Rick Hunter and his partner DeeDee McCall help to save Los Angeles, but don't always have the luxury of a fancy car.    Spenser for Hire showed us that the great Robert Urich as Spenser, saving the day in Boston with his reliable and not yet Star Trekified Avery Brooks, while driving around in a fancy Mustang car.    And this just scratches the surface. In our head cannon, they were all connected and worked for Angela Lansbury's Jessica Fletcher.    What else can you do on Pi Day? How about some Pi-kus? Or maybe have a Pi-arty? Serve some Pi-themed food like Pi-napple or Pi-stachios. Whatever you do, have 3.14 times the fun on this fun Monday! Are you celebrating Pi Day? Do you have a crime that needs investigating? Show Notes Episode 346: I Pity the Fool That Don't Eat My Cereal This week Host Dave Bledsoe issues a retraction to his Sister after insinuating she used to regularly kick his ass, and regrets any confusion. She is and was all sweetness and light and be humbly beg her pardon and pleads for her not to hurt him. (Again) On the show this week we are looking at all the brands of breakfast cereal that were just basically cash grabs in the 1980's (There were more than you remember) Along the way we learn some shocking news about why so many cereals were taken off the shelves so soon after they debuted. (Meaning Dave just made up some shit after reading a single unsourced claim. Again.) From there we plumb the depths of the cereal aisle circa 1989 for all the weird and terrible cereals that people thought kids like to eat. (We liked Apple Jacks and Sugar Smacks, no one wanted Nerd's Cereal) Finally we wrapped up with the most bizarre and inexplicable cereal of the lot and wondered if something wasn't going on between Mr T and Nancy Reagan. (She looked awfully happy on his lap) Our Sponsor this week is Davey-O's the cereal for podcasters! We open the show with Liam Neeson picking up some groceries and close with Chad and Nora Haynes traveling down that road again.
