Series overview The prayer Jesus teaches in Luke 11:2-4 follows the pattern of the commandment to love God with heart, soul, strength, and mind and our neighbors as ourselves (Luke 10:27).1 Only after the prayer is grounded in God's person and reign do we move to requests that reflect our personal needs, our relationships with our neighbors, and the struggles of our own souls. This preaching series suggests four weeks for this text. If you have longer, you may wish to take a Sunday for each petition and possibly one for the address, “Father,” which is immensely rich but also immensely difficult for some. Following the four-week program, I have focused on the grounding of the prayer in our love for God, with a week for the address and for each of the first two petitions, then a week for the three petitions related to love for neighbor and self. Een bont allegaartje qua genres waar de Gremlins moeiteloos door laveren. Oftewel, Sven heeft het niet voor marginalen, Bart heeft oog voor de wardrobe en Maarten viseert de monteur van dienst. Er wordt over de feud tussen Robert De Niro en Mickey Rourke gepraat, Mustang Sally en de immer geweldige Gene Hackman. Bart koos voor Jean Renoir als zijn John June waardoor de drie Gremlins La Grande Illusion (1937), La Bête Humaine (1398) en La Règle du Jeu (1939) voor de kiezen kregen. Er wordt met zoveel lof over ene Erich Von Stroheim, de cameravoering en montage gepraat dat de charismatische Jean Gabin bijna vergeten wordt. Thematiek en sub-context zijn termen die vaak over de lippen rollen al lijkt de opeenvolging van Renoir zijn films misschien zijn tol te eisen bij de drie hosts. Lichtvoetigheid troef in het tweede deel van de aflevering wanneer er in maar liefst vijf decennia door elk van de hosts een Summer Double Bill voorgesteld wordt, ideaal dus om onze zomerstop mee door te komen!

John June is terug! Sven kiest als eerste van de drie Gremlins een regisseur waar de hosts drie films van moeten bekijken. Ene Mark Rydell maakte onder andere The Cowboys (1972), On Golden Pond (1981) en The River (1984). Kleppers als John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn, Sissy Spacek en Mel Gibson passeren de revue. Er wordt over saaie shots, voorspelbaarheid en een mindere John Williams gepraat. Echter komt ook de goeie John Williams boven water drijven, redt Henry Fonda de meubelen en is er het filmdebuut van Robert Carradine.

Bart zijn haat-liefde verhouding voor de man wordt bevestigd, Sven ziet té ingestudeerde theatermaniertjes, Maarten merkt weer psychologische banden op die er waarschijnlijk niet zijn en unanimiteit is opnieuw ver zoek. De opeenstapeling van lezersbrieven noopt de Gremlins er enkele voor te lezen én, zoals de traditie het ondertussen gebiedt net voor de vakantie, is er op het einde nog een Prison Bound.

Bart zijn favoriete regisseur Billy Wilder staat centraal in aflevering 113 oftewel John June 2. De Hollywood classic Sunset Boulevard (1950) passeert de revue net als Stalag 17 (1953) en One, Two, Three (1961). De adoptievader van Damien is bijzonder aanwezig net als andere grootheden zoals Cecil B. DeMille en James Cagney. Maarten wordt echter afgemat en stoort zich immens aan een dier, Sven wordt horendol van dezelfde partituren en Bart pakt zijn twee co-hosts op snelheid. Daarenboven is er een double reaper whammy want naast Ian Holm overlijdt ook Joel Schumacher zo’n uur voor opname.

Ene De Ridder Sven is bijzonder blij dat het juni is want de Gremlins gaan voor de tweede maal van start met John June. Bompa Gremlin mocht als eerste een regisseur én drie van zijn films kiezen al is het wat koffiedik kijken of het Joseph L. Mankiewicz, dan wel Gene Tierney was die de doorslag gaf.
