[TW//Near Death Accident, Serious Injury] Jonathan Goodwin has been called “the closest thing we can boast to a real life superhero”, and “the worlds greatest theatrical stunt performer”. The judges of both Britain's Got Talent and America's Got Talent described him as ''the most dangerous act in the world." Jonathan has been hanged, buried alive, locked in a box while covered in 200,000 bees, attacked by sharks, bitten by rattlesnakes and hung from his toes from helicopters. Jonathan has performed on every continent except Antarctica and in every US State except Alaska. Goodwin has played Broadway, London's West End, Sydney Opera House and Radio City Music Hall. In 2021, Jonathan was involved in an accident while rehearsing a stunt for American TV. The accident left Jonathan with horrendous injuries and resulted in him being permanently paralyzed from the waist down. Jonathan very easily could have died. Now retired from stunt performing Jonathan has turned his attention to writing, presenting, hypnotherapy and being a roll model (pun intended) for both disabled and able bodied people alike. His gratitude, positivity and fearless mindset, both pre and post accident, is hugely, inspiring, enlightented and educational. You will not regret a second listening to Jonathan - pure joy! The Devotional of a Psalmist, Discovering the Book of Psalms

No matter the sentence of your despair, suffering, there is always hope when you call on God.  Deliverance, salvation, healing and restoration is His specialty.  The book of Psalms showcased this hope of Jehovah, and this Psalm is no exception.  This Psalm penned by David, does describes the depravity of sin in our lives, the lack of recognition of God, the lack of calling on His name in the human race.  When we call on Him, He is faithful, He will hear the cry of His loved ones when they are vexed.  Be faithful in calling on His name, don't reject Him, hope abounds in His name.  He is our safe refuge from the plans of evil against us.

Just before we came under the cloud of the novel Coronavirus pandemic, one of the last touring magic shows I saw was The Illusionists featuring David Williamson (The Trickster), Chris Cox (The Mentalist), Hyun Joon Kim (The Manipulator), Valentin Azema (The Elusive), and Jonathan Goodwin (The Daredevil). I did not try to sit down with the entire cast, though I suggest that you go back to hear one I did in 2015 with the cast back then (including David Williamson who was just coming in to fill in for Jeff Hobson for a few dates).. This week we limited our time and our talk with just one of the cast. We have not featured an in-depth conversation with an escape artist on this podcast. But thanks to my U.K. friend, Martin Cox, I was connected with Jonathan Goodwin who opened up this whole new world to me.Escapes have been an integral part of magic for centuries with Harry Houdini being the foremost proponent and well-known escape artist, of course. Though many have tried to replicate Harry’s daring escapes, I found it fascinating that Jonathan goes his own direction and understands what the audience “believes” and “accepts” as far as danger and “jeopardy”. He has updated escapes and brought the are to another level that resonates with audiences around the world.U.K. Escape Artist, Jonathan Goodwin got a new tattoo for his 40th birthday honoring a quote by Harry Houdini.See more from Britain's Got Talent at http://itv.com/talent Jonathan Goodwin put his life on the line for our entertainment again and again. This is the third and final part of Tyler and Don's review of Ian Fleming's second James Bond book Live And Let Die (1954). In a series of three podcasts they go through the adventure chapter by chapter, providing as much background information as they could gather. Part 3 covers chapters 16 - 23 of the book. Where parts one and two could be titled ‘New York' and ‘Florida' respectively, part three is all about Jamaica. Bond flies to Kingston, where he meets Strangways and Quarrel. Miraculously, in about a week's time, Bond gets into peak physical condition for his night-time swim to Mr. Big's island. However, this doesn't prevent 007 from being attacked by sharks and barracuda and being captured (again) by Mr. Big's men. The villain then proceeds to drag Solitaire and our hero behind his yacht towards both the deadly reef and an explosive climax. I met today’s guest on the subway! Jonathan Goodwin was fiddling with some handcuffs and I asked him what he was doing, learned he was a professional daredevil stunt performer who's done everything from hanging from a building with just 2 fingers to flipping cars to getting attacked by a shark - PURPOSELY - to hanging to a burning rope just by his teeth on one of my favorite shows -- America’s Got Talent. I just KNEW he had to come on the show to share his perspective on mental toughness, focus and discipline! Ok, all that is true except we didn’t meet on the subway. The subway would actually be more believable than how we actually met. We ACTUALLY met on stage at The Palace Theater on Broadway in New York, in front of 1800 people, when Jonathan randomly pulled out of the audience and onto the stage to perform a stunt. And by “stunt” I mean I had to hold a flower horizontally by my teeth (which, btw is WAY harder than it might seem - you try!) and Jonathan, blindfolded, used a whip to chop that flower in half. Without chopping me in half, too. Needless to say, he and I would not be talking today if I had any scars to prove this, BUT I do have a video to prove this which you can watch at www.partyinmyplants.com/47!   You’ll learn:   How Jonathan overcomes his fears (yes, he does stunts but he isn’t fearless, you know!) Why and how to use “chunking” to help you feel less overwhelmed at really anything. The difference between practice, rehearsal and performance. How HYPNOSIS has helped him tremendously! The surprising equipment that helps him stay RIPPED. The healthy food he considers his “filler-uppers” which I consider “brilliant!” And loads more! Libby Purves meets escapologist Jonathan Goodwin; artist Simone Sandelson; jazz singer Curtis Stigers and gardener Christine Walkden. Jonathan Goodwin is an escapologist whose feats are inspired by vaudeville showmen and escape artists such as Harry Houdini and Charles Blondin, the high-wire walker. In his new TV series, 'The Incredible Mr Goodwin', Jonathan attempts a series of stunts from beating a bear trap to climbing one of London's tallest buildings - unaided. The Incredible Mr Goodwin is on Watch at 9pm. Simone Sandelson is an artist who fought for a reprieve for Jack Alderman, the longest serving prisoner on death row until his execution in 2008. Her new exhibition, 'Behind the Picture', stems directly from her campaigning work and personal experiences. The show features paintings inspired by objects including her correspondence with Jack Alderman and provisions abandoned at the Antarctica British Survey Base camp over 50 years ago. Behind the Picture is at the Crane Kalman Gallery in London. Curtis Stigers is a jazz vocalist, saxophonist, guitarist and songwriter. After a major pop career with hits including 'I Wonder Why' and 'You're All That Matters To Me', he reinvented himself as a jazz singer. His new album is called 'Let's Go Out Tonight' and his 'Up Close & Personal' acoustic tour celebrates both his jazz and pop career. Let's Go Out Tonight is on the Concord label. Christine Walkden is a gardener, author and broadcaster. She has been a horticulturist since the age of ten when she obtained her first allotment. She travels widely to track down new plant species including Iran, Kashmir, China, Mexico, Chile and South Africa. Her new book 'Christine Walkden's No-Nonsense Container Gardening'is published by Simon & Schuster. Producer: Paula McGinley.
