We have a great episode today with a guy that I had met in passing over the years but never really got to visit with, and boy was it worth the wait as Coach had so many great stories and lessons to share with us. He is now the Head Football Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator at my alma mater, Fort Bend Austin High School - welcome Trey Herrmann to the show! - Growing up in the Bear Creek area and wearing the iconic Kelly Green of the Mayde Creek Rams! Coach was in Katy during a time when he could still go hunt ducks before school in the area that is now Cinco Ranch! - Playing for Mayde Creek means you get to play for legendary long-time Head Coach Joe Sheffy - Trey shares some great Joe Sheffy stories and talks about the contempt he felt at the time for his fellow Katy ISD brethren at Katy and Taylor high! - Coach talks about getting his first head coaching job at Bellaire HS and shares a laugh out loud story of the "flip this fieldhouse" moments he had with Fort Bend Travis Head Coach Trey Sissom, as well as some Mission Impossible moments he had scaling walls to break into his own office! - After getting his feet wet at Bellaire, Trey talks about being a part of a dramatic turnaround at Katy Taylor as well as some interesting insights into how kids in small towns play for different reasons many a time, and how perhaps the mindset of his kids at Danbury were more like the kids in Fort Bend and Katy in 1997 than in 2023. - Finally as a man who is now approaching his 5th Head Coaching stop Coach Hermann shares with us his definitive personal Mount Rushmore with one player from each of his four previous stops! Join the Team Player Revolution! The biggest help is to leave a 5-star rating. This is what moves us up the rankings so more people can hear the stories of coaches changing lives Follow on Twitter @coach_kovo Hit us up at teamplayerpodcast@gmail.com - we lift up our own inside Team Player Nation, all guest suggestions/feedback is welcome! Katy Taylor's highly anticipated match with Amanda Serrano has been postponed, because Serrano has an injury which rules her out of the May 20th bout. So, what's next for Katie? Well, she joined Ian on this morning's Gift Grub to talk it out...
Who wants more ideal clients in their inbox? And signing contracts? That's what I thought. If only wishing made it happen. The reality is ideal clients are hard to get if hope is your strategy. That's why I asked the one and only Katy Taylor Jacobson to join me in a conversation about: - What is an “ideal client” (besides one with a big budget)? - How do you attract them in the first place? - Why do they want to connect with your brand? - And how to deal with behind-the-scenes decision-makers who are less than ideal? Oh, and we're sharing information on our new mastermind, Social and Sway, co-created with Persephone and her team at The Media Socialites. China has been warned by the World Health Organisation that its so-called 'zero covid' approach is unsustainable. Hundreds of millions of people have been kept under lockdown in cities across the country, leaving the economy severely jolted, and critics calling it an abuse of human rights. However, the Chinese authorities seem determined to carry on as before, and have announced that the city of Shanghai will be placed under its tightest restrictions yet. The news came as a disappointment to Rebecca Kanthor, who has already gone through seven weeks of lockdown. Choosing what to wear in El Salvador can be literally a matter of life or death. The country is plagued by gang violence, with eighty people murdered over just one weekend this year. The government has promised a crackdown, passing new laws which allow police to lock up suspected gang members as young as 12. Mike Lanchin lived in El Salvador during the 1990s, and when he returned for a visit with his family, he quickly learned the value of covering up. More than five million people have now fled Ukraine, and have been taken in by countries across Europe. Switzerland has offered homes to tens of thousands, giving them an immediate right to work, and other benefits too. Yet this hospitality has left refugees from other countries questioning what they see as double standards. As Imogen Foulkes explains, plenty have run from war and persecution elsewhere, and yet have not found the Swiss to be quite so accepting. Germany has been commemorating the end of World War Two - a complicated anniversary, remembering both the country's dead, but with an eye to its Nazi past. This year's anniversary comes amidst Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and furious arguments in Germany about how far to intervene. John Kampfner was invited to one remembrance ceremony in the old East Berlin, where Germany's complex relationship with Russia was to the fore. Women's boxing celebrated its biggest night ever recently, as Ireland's Katy Taylor defended her world lightweight title against Amanda Serrano from Puerto Rico, at New York's Madison Square Garden. Women's boxing has always struggled to win recognition, but women have fought hard to prove it is not just a men's sport. Steve Bunce was ring-side at the recent bout.

Ian King speaks to chief economist at Panmure Gordon - Simon French - about how inflation is on the rise as recovery from the Covid crisis keeps pushing prices up. Plus, hear from Katy Taylor - chief customer officer at Go Ahead's Northumberland Park bus garage - about how the firm's buses and trains will move to electric or hydrogen by 2035. And co-founder of The Pipeline - Baroness Margaret McDonagh - joins the show to discuss how the pandemic has pushed back gender parity by years.
Few people have championed buses like Katy Taylor. In an industry not renowned for rocking the boat, Katy Taylor has been a passionate advocate for the Government giving buses more support and attention. The National Bus Strategy, in part, owes its existence to Katy's constant lobbying. Now in her last few weeks as Strategy and Customer Director at the Go Ahead Group, she is optimistic about the future of the bus sector but worried that the Williams-Shapps Review takes the rail industry in completely the wrong direction. In this discussion, she doesn't hold back - talking candidly about her concerns for the future of rail - and reasons for optimism for the future of bus.

#016. Rob attended Elysian Fields HS in east Texas and played football, baseball, tennis, and ran track. He is ambidextrous, which made him a very dangerous baseball player. He was given the opportunity to play both baseball and football at Taft Junior College where he was a part of the 1982 football National Championship team. He transferred to Mesa College in Grand Junction, CO and played baseball and football where he was a 2 time runner up in the National Championship game. From there he signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos and the NY Football Giants until a weight room injury sidelined him. After the NFL, he served as a graduate assistant at UNLV until the head coach got fired and at that point, he made the decision to come back to Texas to coach Texas High School football. Cynthia is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Kincaid HS, and the President of the American Football Coaches Wives Association. She and Rob had some fun in their careers as they served at two different high schools...and actually played each other. Who won? You will have to listen to find out the overall record in the family. Brittany joins us to talk about being the head track coach of the girl's team at Taylor HS in Katy, Tx. We get a chance to talk about her challenges and victories as the head coach at Taylor and then back up and learn about her interesting college career. Brittany was a team manager for great coaches at Kansas State University and Texas A&M University. Super unique to hear her perspective on coaching track and field after not having been an athlete in the sport. In fact, we get a chance to learn about her dad, the legendary Gary Derks (head coach of Cinco Ranch HS) and their unique relationship that centered around coaching track and field. It was an honor to talk about Gary, who passed away in 2016, and the legacy he left so many, including your host Mike Cunningham.

This is the time to dig into projects that have been on the back burner for far too long, and for many wedding pros, that may include updating their website. But the pretty pictures on your company website aren't the only things that are important. The words on your website are just as important, but are left as an afterthought. In this week's episode of the This Week In Weddings podcast, we're chatting with Katy Taylor, lead copywriter and brand communication strategist for Ideaction Consulting. She's setting us straight on the importance of the language on your website and how a few strategic tweaks can make a big difference in attracting potential clients and converting them into customers. About our guest: Katy Taylor Jacobson is the lead copywriter and brand communication strategist for Ideaction Consulting. Katy, and the team at Ideaction Consulting, help wedding and event professionals find their voice and stand out from their competition. Not stand out by describing how much they love cats or pumpkin spice lattes… But by determining what their clients do, who they really are and how they make a difference in the lives of their customers. Katy has actual experience selling luxury weddings and events for over 25 years - to brides, grooms, their families, and other event professionals. She knows a thing or two about the way clients buy and what they need to know from you in order to move forward with your services. Because she’s walked in your shoes, with success - selling over $25 million for brands like Warwick Hotels and Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. Katy and her husband Sam, founder of Ideaction Consulting, geek out about helping event professionals make more money with how-to sales tactics and techniques that are surprisingly quite simple. When they aren’t teaching event pros at their workshops, they are living their best life on an island, in the middle of the ocean (seriously), with their two 11-year-old kids, Nick & Emily - who are turning them gray while keeping them young. In this episode, listeners will hear about: Katy's background in the wedding industry, from catering sales to consulting and copywriting The basic purpose of your website and it's importance in the sales process English 101 - including the difference between first person, second person, and third person writing Best practices for the language on your home page and how that should different from your about page Tips for making the language on your website sound like you actually talk Want to connect with Katy? Regulating for the common good - is the devil the detail? In an era of disruption, how do we bring in effective regulatory systems with a bigger picture view, geared towards public good? Journalist Matthew Gwyther interviews: Christine Armstrong, Co-founder, Jericho Chambers; David Brown, CEO, Go-Ahead Group; Harry Armstrong, Head of Technology Futures, Nesta; Katy Taylor, Group Marketing and Customer Experience Director, Go-Ahead Group; Michael Hurwitz, Director of Innovation, Transport for London; Simon Craven, Special Adviser, Go-Ahead Group; Stephen Joseph, CEO, Campaign for Better Transport, and Tony Travers, Director, Institute of Public Affairs, London School of Economics. From a starting point of transport, the conversation covers wider use of data, nationalisation vs privatisation, the importance of culture, better power symmetry across different industries, and working with - not against - innovators to design regulation fit for the future.

Jesse interviews Katy Taylor - who performs original and medieval chant and song that weaves celtic ornamentation with haunting, mystical invocations and prayers.Katy started with school talent shows and singing in chorus, school musicals, and church choirs. During a study-abroad opportunity in Austria in her undergrad years, she acquired a taste for medieval music by singing with Vienna's St. Augustine Church Choir. While living in Vermont in the 90’s, Katy toured with the group Northern Harmony in the United States, Canada, England, and Europe, performing traditional music of all kinds and singing with Peter and Mary Alice Amidon and Tony Barrand. She also sang with the eclectic, traditional music group, the Bayley-Hazen Singers, and with Anima, a medieval women's ensemble. Anima first introduced Katy to the music of 12th c. German mystic Hildegard von Bingen. Katy has recorded 4 of her own CDs, including a Mass commissioned by the Foundation for Universal Sacred Music. Katy sings to feel connected to Truth, Source, the Divine, however you name that. She doesn’t sit down to compose, but often from the inspiration of a poem or a prayer, music rises up within her to become a song. For her, to sing is to channel her particular expression of the Divine into the world.
