In this episode Bridget talks about the role hockey played in her life and her health journey. Growing up in a family that was very involved in hockey, the love came naturally. Bridget talked about her childhood and what it was like being the baby of five children in the family. She was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area but eventually moved to Alberta. Her passion for hockey is evident throughout her story as she always played on a school team and even went to Switzerland for a year to play on a team! Bridget discussed her love for learning and her education journey. She has a Masters Degree in Divinity from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from the University of Waterloo, then continued to Mount Royal University to become a Licensed Funeral Director in Alberta. Later in her life she became very ill. She was unable to work and could hardly get out of bed. The only thing that she was able to do was to assistant coach hockey in Cochrane for the female team (my team). After a lot of pain and talking to many health professionals she found out that she had a rare type of cancer. Bridget explains the challenges but also the great things that have come from all her health struggles. Bridget also has so much love and compassion for those who are grieving as she has grieved many losses herself in her lift. She lost four family members very close to each other and experienced different types of grief with the loss of each of them. Her passion now is to share the life story of many as her role as a Funeral Celebrant and help others navigate through this difficult grievance time.  Throughout our conversation Bridget talks about her love for hockey, her healing process after her cancer, advice on how to deal with grief and so much more. If you want to get in touch with Bridget or learn more about her you can contact her on Facebook @ Bridget Halfyard or her website https://www.bridgethalfyard.com/ .  Connect with me on Instagram, Facebook, and TIK TOk If you have a story you would like to share with the world!Sending love and joy your way!Selina Novello

On this episode I had the pleasure of having a conversation with Michelle Adams, Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer at family-owned business, Adams Funeral Services. While times have changed from those early years of the horse drawn hearse and funerals in the family home, the Adams family continues a long tradition of loving care and service to families in their time of need. They have pioneered unique funeral service personalization ideas, technical innovations including video memorials, digital memorial portraits, and much more Amid her grieving the loss of her own mother, Michelle aspired to continue the legacy of the family business and transitioned from being a full-time cosmetologist into her current role. Although a funeral director & embalmer, Michelle uses her skills of cosmetology to also help make your loved ones look their best during the homegoing ceremony. Her goal with the family business is to provide Savannah and the surrounding communities the highest level of service, compassion, and respect in funeral service ministry that is offered. Brandee Wilkinson is a Mother, Wife, and Entrepreneur in Akron, OH. In 2019 she became the first Black Woman to ever own and operate a funeral home, Wilkinson Funeral Home, here in Akron where she is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. In this episode Brandee discusses her early years of having a passion for music and how supportive and loving parents instilled in her and her siblings the mindset of being able to achieve anything no matter the odds. Brandee's story is a testament of courage and faith, as she educated me on the experiences Women face when working through a fertility process. Brandee is a leader and someone who's faith should be admired as she has always been able to lean into her faith despite the outcome not always being visible. Her road to becoming a Funeral Home Director is just that, as she worked along side a prominent local company before stepping out on her own.
