Today I am going to be talking about something that I feel is not that talked about that much... And that is how confusing it is to transition into becoming a young adult. Taken right off the web “A quarter-life crisis is a period of uncertainty, stress, and deep soul-searching that many young people experience as they embark on a new chapter in life.” And this is exactly what I think I am in! But lately, I have come into some insight that might help you if you feel like you resonate with that. The biggest misbelief that a lot of us have is that we have to pick one thing and do it for THE REST OF OUR LIVES. There are so many pressures and we don't actually know what the heck we wanna do because we have just been busy completing high school. Some have gone and done things and extracurriculars, but others have just simply survived high school. And in high school, I believe that doesn't truly teach us how to be creative. Only creative inside the box.I go through a quick rundown of what my life has been the last three years. From graduating high school to being out in the real world, leaving college, and doing something untraditional. And then 7 Steps to Take Charge of Your Life and Finding Yourself. The first step is figuring out what your BS !!!! YOUR BELIEF SYSTEM;) Figure out what beliefs you have that are helping you. And what beliefs do you have that are holding you back in stopping you from being amazing or great? What thought of having to have it all figured out? Going to experience new things. Go fail. But keep moving forward and learn from your mistakes. Learn from your failures. And I'm telling you this because it's what I need to tell myself. It's OK to be lost right now because it is all a part of a bigger plan.I started reframing things in my life. I learned that we as humans in our individual experiences give everything meaning. I want you to hear that again everything in our life we give meaning to. Reframe and look at all these things as building blocks as a step up to figure out where you're going. This mindset has shifted for me but it is a work in progress. At Zumbia I had many interesting thoughts that turned into beautiful lesions. Sheila Hoogenboom has quite an extraordinary story. She grew up with a blue-collar family that was very simple. She was raised in BC and had an older brother. As a teen, her brother got into a lot of trouble and so her mom and dad really focussed on him. She did not receive as much guidance because of this. When she was young she really struggled with finding a path and direction. She was one who drifted through High School and planned to go back to school but never did. She got pregnant at a very young age and decided after unpredictable circumstances to give her daughter up for adoption. She knew she could not provide for that daughter. Later in her life, she met a guy and they moved in together right away. They had a traditional marriage and had two kids, a son, and a daughter. But things turned negative really quickly. Sheila's husband committed suicide which was life-altering for the whole family. Back then mental health was not talked about the way it is today. People treated her differently as they thought something was wrong with them. Some people left her but some really great friends stayed. In the beginning, she didn't really give herself time to feel as she was focused on the kids. Through all the judgment she received she continued to get support. Sheila struggled with many feelings but being a wife and a mother was the ultimate wait for someone to leave you. Her self-esteem took a hard hit for the next 20 years. She asked herself why she wasn't enough and struggled with why he left her. She was back in the same position of when she gave her first daughter up for adoption. How was she supposed to raise these children alone. She had amazing tools that she learned from a parenting program. Her grieving process didn't begin until later as her main focus was her kids. Her kids also struggled greatly from this and asked themselves some more questions like what was wrong with them and they had a great fear that she would leave them as well. She continued to have an open dialogue with her kids. She said that her close friends and her tribe were vile to her survival. She emphasized how important it is to have a tribe of women. Her kids pushed her to start dating again and got into a relationship that wasn't great. She had a great job and was very involved in the community but she gave herself very little credit for all the amazing things she did. After a lot of work and a little manifestation she found her happily ever after and is living the life of her dreams. She met her daughter that she gave up when she was young and all the guilt went away. Self-doubt is very natural and recently I have been experiencing a lot of it. I believe that self-doubt comes from a few places: Your own opinions and thoughts. Others opinions.Due to events and experiences, we start believing or thinking about ourselves in a negative or positive way. I provided some examples from my life and my limiting beliefs. I share an experience in my life in hopes that you don't feel alone if you have similar feelings. I usually ask many people what they think I should do in a situation but I rarely ask myself. I recently made a big decision on my own and I discussed the challenges and the impact of pleasing others with myself. Connect with me on Instagram, Facebook, TIK TOk, and now YOUTUBE!!! Are you a person pleaser? Do you thrive on others praising you? Do you have a hard time taking care of yourself? Have you been feeling like you're not enough? If you answered yes to any of these questions this is an episode for you! I had the opportunity to sit down with Jason Dimnik who is a youth pastor at the Cochrane Alliance Church! Jason has an amazing story and so much knowledge to share with the world. Jason has lived in Alberta all of his life and had a very supportive family. Jason has many passions like family, football, and loves cooking all kinds of foods!A big part of his life was growing up with faith. He was very involved in the church and it was like his second home. There have been people in the church that have made an important impact in his life and helped him become the leader he is today. Leadership has been an ongoing part of Jason's life but so has people-pleasing and the feeling of not being enough. Jason discusses some of his challenges and how he continues to work on becoming a better person. Jason was reminded recently on his sabbatical that self-care is not selfish and is very important for personal growth. Often, when he was replenishing himself he would do more things for others to get praise and acknowledgment. Unfortunately, this was not serving him and he realized that in order to give he needed to take care of himself first. Jason has served in many areas of the Christian ministry and has been a youth leader for many years now. Jason reflects on the impacts of covid on himself and the community of youth he works with. He loves to help people discover what they are meant to do and walk alongside them in their journey. What is stopping you from loving life and letting your light shine? Lisa has been an Alberta girl for her whole life. She is the oldest of four siblings which installed personality traits within her. Lisa was a person pleaser and put a lot of pressure on herself to do what was right. After a while her perspective shifted and she started focussing on what she thinks about herself instead of what everyone else thought.During her first year of University she travelled to Germany and all around Europe. Lisa got married at 25 and started her family. She already had her career in finance since she was 20. From a young age she knew that she hated having a boss. She recognized that she didn't want to have a corporate job. She took marketing at Mount Royal University in Calgary and knew she wanted to be a financial planner. Later she decided she wanted to make more money so she dipped her toe in real estate.Lisa has dealt with Mom guilt and shame as she was not a mom that was your typical stay at home mom. She also touches on some of the struggles of having kids but also what a beautiful blessing they are. She talks about her divorce and how looking back she realizes that you need to find a person who wants to grow with you. She lives a life of no regrets. Lisa talks about this checklist she made for herself. This checklist was to go to school, have a career, get married, have kids, have a house, have cars, etc. Once she achieved all that she didn't know what her next step was. Lisa learns to love who she is, love where she's been, and love where she's going. She has always been interested in finances from a really young age. Lisa encourages others to know what they want and she helps others create financial plans that align with your goals and your life. Lisa addresses the role fear plays and talks about stepping into the unknown and living a life you love.
