There's a stark difference between being interested in improving your golf game and being committed to improving it. Unfortunately, many say they're committed, yet they're merely interested. In today's episode, you'll learn the difference between being interested in shooting lower scores versus being committed to shooting lower scores, as well as five specific areas you can bring commitment to so that you can begin shooting more pars than bogeys. Start listening. P.S. Curious about how hypnosis can help you shoot more pars than bogeys? Learn more about what hypnosis is and is not, how it works, and how it can help you get unstuck from the proverbial bunker of poor performance. Learn more here. Key Points: Commitment is essential for improving your golf game and achieving your goals. Detach your self-worth from your golf score to avoid negative emotions and maintain healthy relationships. Being committed means taking action and following through, not just being interested. Choose one approach for swing technique and stick to it, avoiding distractions and conflicting advice. Create a pre-round course management strategy to make informed decisions and shoot the lowest score possible. Trust your instincts in club selection and commit to your chosen swing execution. Develop a practice routine that aligns with your goals and prioritize consistent effort and improvement. Key Quotes: "Your ability to manage your emotions and keep them in check to not allow them to the driver seat of your decisions in daily life, you need to strengthen that skill." "Committed can be defined as feeling dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity or job. You are wholeheartedly dedicated. You are all in." "When you're committed, you do what you know you need to do, even when you don't feel like it." Subscribe to the More Pars Than Bogeys Newsletter. Join me, John Ashton, and the renowned Jeff Smith, a Golf Magazine Top 100 teacher, as we tackle the mental and physical aspects of improving your golf game. Listen in as we share insights on the vital role discipline plays in transferring lessons from the green to your routine. You'll hear stories of golfers who soared during their sessions only to stumble without continued practice. It's not just about understanding the changes; it's about embedding them into your play with dedication and a practice prescription from your coach. Remember, without the discipline to practice, progress is fleeting. Hone your golf skills with us as we simplify the golf swing for success. We take you from the quirky shops along Tamiami Trail straight to the heart of golf strategy, discussing everything from the importance of a consistent pre-shot routine to overcoming mental barriers that may be impacting your swing. Learn about the psychological edge that can help you achieve a smoother, more successful golf shot, and find out why the correct grip, posture, and clubface alignment are your best friends on the course. You might just be surprised to find that your physical ailments aren't the hindrance you thought they were. Wrapping up, we delve into the art of communication in golf instruction and the power of a solid pre-shot routine. Discover why practice swings aren't just a formality but a critical step towards nailing that perfect shot. With anecdotes and tips from the trenches, we shed light on the common mistakes amateurs make and the ego traps that can sabotage your game. Whether you're looking to improve your bunker shots or navigate the mental game under pressure, this episode is your caddy to a better golf experience. So grab your clubs, and let's get swinging towards a more refined, confident approach to the game we love.
At some point, it's no longer a swing problem holding you back from shooting lower scores. It's a mindset problem. Many golfers I work with are hesitant to admit that emotional and mental hazards of their mind are, in fact, present in their game. And, if they are humble enough to admit it on their own, they often think self-talk and logic are enough to defuse the anger, frustration, tension, and inability to maintain focus that plagues their round. Sure, that may work - at a snail's pace (if at all). But it will never get to the core of what's really catalyzing the collection of sabotaging behaviors keeping you stuck in the proverbial bunker of performance. If you want to experience rapid, effective change in how you manage emotions and maintain a confident, calm, and focused demeanor on the course, hypnosis is your answer. In today's episode, I'll first discuss what hypnosis is not, before detailing what it is, how it works, and how it can help you shoot lower scores. Start listening. Want more detail and examples of how hypnosis is helping my clients shoot lower scores AND a free recorded hypnosis audio to help you play better? Grab both of these free resources here.* Note: this will be live in early June - if the site isn't live when you attempt to grab it, simply send me a message on Instagram and I'll send it your way. "When you're in this hypnotic state, you bypass all of that noise, negativity and nonsense." "Your brain's ability to adapt, change, rewire, form new neural pathways and connections as you accumulate new experiences and learn new information." “The subconscious mind influences 95% of behavior, and hypnosis provides a shortcut to accessing and transforming it.” “Hypnosis allows golfers to bypass the critical judgmental voice of the conscious mind and directly connect with their subconscious, leading to rapid change and improved performance.” Join our free and growing community of serious golfers chasing scratch: The (Aspiring) Scratch Golfer's Society. This week is a replay of an interview I recorded with Scott Fawcett almost 2 years ago. He is the creator of Decade golf and course strategy coach to many PGA tour players including Will Zalatoris, Stewart Cink and Webb Simpson. In this episode Scott shares his story of how he came up with the Decade system and also with all the data he has collected what mistakes Amateurs are making which are costing them the most shots. To check out Scott's work and follow along here are the links:InstagramDecade GolfTwitterI hope you enjoy the episode and would love any feedback you have: shaun@fairwayperformance.comConnect with Me:Have questions or want a more personalised plan for your fitness journey? If you've ever readied yourself for a shot by executing your entire pre-shot routine, yet, felt that at the last moment, something was “off,” yet, hit the shot anyway… You are guilty of the anyway shot. And, this shot may be costing you as many as 6 - 10 (or more strokes) per round! In today's episode, I detail the anyway shot: what it is, why it happens, how it effects your game, and actionable steps you can take to do it less often. I also update you on the next round of nine holes I played, my continued swing progress, and where in the game of golf I feel I'm making strong strides. Start Listening. Noteworthy Sound Bites: "An anyway shot is any particular situation you find yourself in where you know that something is off. Something is not quite right, almost as if there is a crack in your metaphorical pre-shot routine armor. Yet, you hit the shot anyway." "My estimate is you might hit at least five to 10 anyway shots throughout an entire 18-hole round. That could be five to 10 different strokes you could potentially save if you gather the courage, awareness, and composure to back off the ball any time something doesn't feel right." "Can we identify a theme, trend, or pattern? Does it occur in particular situations where you have a lie that you haven't worked on much? Anytime you're hitting a shot where there's doubt, uncertainty, second-guessing, or just a general, 'I have no clue,' it's just an opportunity to make a note during your round on what you need to study and focus on away from the course." Jeff Smith, one of Golf Magazine's Top 100 teachers, gives you 2 shots to use around the greens today. They are both almost magic when it comes to improving your short game. First is the Hinge & Thump shot, And the second he calls the Firm Handed Scrape. Both of these shots describe the motion used in executing them and both can be used with many different clubs for many different scenarios. But what is for sure is that once you have both of these shots in your arsenal your short game will improve seriously and quickly.

He talks about "Iron (yardage) Gapping" for better control and results as he dives into Course Management insights and advice. Finally Tim shares "inside the ropes" insight from Augusta National in the lead up to The Masters.
