Full Rig 2024 Info: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/green-day-2024Green Day 2013 Rig: https://youtu.be/7uomdMrkNgAThis year marks two huge anniversaries for Green Day. They defined an entire era of pop-punk with their 1994 major-label debut, Dookie, then did it all over again 10 years later with the punk-rock-opera American Idiot. This year, Idiot turns 20; Dookie is 30.To celebrate the milestones, Green Day has been blasting through stadiums across North America playing both albums in full, back-to-back, with a few odds and ends from their 30-plus years together, plus choice hits from their 2024 record, Saviors. It's a ton of ground to cover—especially considering each epoch seems to have different and defining sonic characteristics. The guitar and bass tones on Dookie alone are the subject of amp mods, guitar pedals, and signature guitars.At the band's Nashville stop at GEODIS Park, techs Darian Polach and Gabe Monnot, who manage the rigs of bassist Mike Dirnt and guitarist Jason White respectively, took Premier Guitar's Chris Kies through the rockers' gear wardrobes for this mammoth tour. My guests this week are Ritch Esra and Eric Knight of Music Business Television. MUBU TV takes music business education out of the classroom using interviews with music heavyweights to help artists empower their careers. Ritch is a former A&R executive at Arista and co-founder of the Music Business Registry, the music industries leading contact directories for personnel in A&R, Music Publishing, Film/Television Music, Music Law and Artist Management. Erick Knight is a musician, teacher and entrepreneur who's new venture Symbiotic Nation aims to reinvent the entertainment industry by becoming its version of Google. During the interview, we spoke about how labels struggle to break their own artists, the depth of knowledge that artists need to be effective today, the music business journey, the latest trends in the music business, the idea behind MUBU TV, and much more. I spoke with Ritch and Eric via Zoom. On the intro I'll take a look at the Metaverse might be further away than we've been told, and Marshall Amplification has been sold to a longtime partner. var podscribeEmbedVars = { epId: 85901075, backgroundColor: 'white', font: undefined, fontColor: undefined, speakerFontColor: undefined, height: '600px', showEditButton: false, showSpeakers: true, showTimestamps: true };

Have you ever thought, “Gee, I really need to ruin my Tele…”? Put an iPad on it! (This will make more sense once you listen to this episode, scout's honor.)This week, in our first episode with a live studio audience (sup Cappy), we get into how we listen to and make judgements of gear. Specifically, we talk Josh Homme revealing the tone secrets of crappy amps, and scientists science-ing the hell out of some wood and fungus to make a modern “biotech Stradivarius.”Also discussed: catching up with old bandmates (hi Mike), a heroic bass player saving lives, Reverb updates, Winter NAMM delays, Dave Mustaine's butthole, Black MIDI ripping up Sleeping Village, Marshall Amps, Boss' new IR-200 and SY-200, and Players Grade Vintage.Drugs are a hell of a drug.
“I picked this record because not only is it a pivotal record in AC/DC's catalog, but it also had lasting repercussions for the Hard Rock genre as a whole. AC/DC is one of the most important bands in their genre as them, KISS, and The Rolling Stones are still to this day the big 3 when it comes to the Hard Rock genre. Powerage in particular is the purest example of the band firing on all cylinders despite charting relatively low. I chose this album over the standard fare of "Back in Black", "The Razor's Edge", or even "Highway to Hell", as I think this album is the true torch-bearer of what made AC/DC, AC/DC. Powerage is a record that may have flown under the radar for some, but is a rock-solid example of what happens when Blues-based Rock N' Roll, heart-felt emotion, and pure raw electricity flows through the Marshall Amps of the time.” - Matthew Darrow (Director of Photography and Media) We hope you enjoy this episode and thank you to Matthew Darrow for being our first guest and for his work on the show, as well as his selection of this awesome record. Cheers!

A few, a very few, can say that they are a 1st Assistant Director, a music producer, a song writer, a pro guitarist, an entrepreneur with music gear like guitars and amps, but Peter Margolis is an expert in every field. How is that possible? The only answer to this riddle is he started very young. He was a step ahead of the curve. But listening to the podcast you realize that nothing came easy. Every goal to attain and every challenge to succeed was hard fought. If you have a desire to be good at anything this conversation paints that kind of picture that nothing great comes freely. He had to gut it out.

This week we get some emails about amps and pedals to which yes, I have an opinion. I talk a little about professionalism as a guitar player or musician in general. Something cool I found on cable - Palladia. I also offer up my opinion on punk.
