The Build Podcast tackles a very timely and top-of-mind topic: tariffs. This episode dives deep into the current (as of April 28, 2025) and forecasted state of the U.S. housing and remodeling industry, with a spotlight on tariffs, economic uncertainty, and demographic trends. Matt is joined by two experts from Zonda (a leading housing data and insights company), Matt & Todd, to discuss how global tariffs are expected to raise material costs by up to 9%, even for companies that don't directly import goods. The conversation covers how these pressures are reshuffling market share among building product brands, highlighting the rise of private labels and the shifting loyalty to names like Kohler and Moen. They explore how an aging, wealthier homeowner demographic is driving demand for higher-quality, longer-lasting products—especially in remodeling. They also emphasize a growing labor shortage, suggesting that skilled contractors will become more valuable, with fewer available by 2030.Zonda's Matt & Todd unpack the revolution in supply chains: contractors are increasingly purchasing materials via e-commerce and direct-from-manufacturer channels. Digital fluency has become an essential in building materials sourcing and distribution.Thank you to episode sponsors Huber & Midea. What makes Idaho special, and how can we protect it? Matt, creator of The Ranch podcast, reveals his journey from Berkeley graduate to California SAT tutor to Idaho political bridge-builder in this wide-ranging conversation about state politics, education, and community values. After nearly two decades in education, Matt witnessed California's political landscape transform the system in ways he found deeply concerning. When his state eliminated the SAT as an equalizing opportunity for disadvantaged students like himself, he knew it was time for a change. In 2022, he moved his family to Idaho seeking a state that valued personal liberty, civic engagement, and pragmatic governance—and started a podcast to understand his new home. The Ranch quickly evolved from neighborhood conversations to interviews with Idaho's most influential leaders, from the Governor to agency heads. What sets it apart is Matt's commitment to honest, unbiased dialogue that humanizes political figures across the spectrum. "If you say you want to talk to both sides, people need to trust you," he explains, detailing how he builds that trust through fair questioning and accurate representation.Through fascinating examples—from ranchers creating volunteer firefighting agencies to debates over employment protections—Matt demonstrates how his podcast illuminates complex state issues often overlooked by traditional media. He dives deep into technology in schools, sharing alarming discoveries about monitoring software vulnerabilities and his work on legislation requiring greater transparency for parents.Beyond politics, Matt reflects on what truly makes Idaho special: the freedom to explore public lands, the emphasis on individual agency and personal responsibility, and the authentic civic participation that has shaped the state's character. As Idaho faces growth and demographic changes, he sees his platform as critical to preserving these values by helping newcomers understand what makes the Gem State worth protecting.Whether you're an Idaho native, a transplant, or simply interested in how local media can bridge political divides, this conversation offers valuable insights into building community in polarized times. To learn more about Idaho, it's legislature, and what lies behind it...make sure to visit: The Ranch Podcast - Powered by Truth in Media Foundation and follow Matt on Instagram @the_ranch_podcastTell us what you think!Support the showFollow Wild Chaos on Social Media: Apple iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-wild-chaos-podcast/id1732761860Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5KFGZ6uABb1sQlfkE2TIoc?si=8ff748aa4fc64331 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wildchaospodcastYoutube: https://youtube.com/@wildchaospodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@wildchaosshowX (Twitter): https://twitter.com/thewildchaosMeta (Facebook): https://www.facebook.com/wildchaospodcastLinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/wildchaos

First, they dive into the upcoming More Social Less Media Event—an opportunity for teenagers, parents, teachers, district administration, lawmakers, and school community members to come together on Saturday, April 26th, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Eagle High School. The episode wraps up with a deep dive into the hot-button issue of school vouchers in Idaho, and the importance of assessing the current regulations to ensure they're creating the best learning environment for kids while holding ourselves accountable for public funds. With around 94% of Idaho kids attending public schools, it's crucial that we work together to strengthen our system for every student.Have thoughts? Are school-issued devices fueling children's screen addiction? The American Academy of Pediatrics sets screen-time standards, and we do our best to limit kids' time on devices, but what is happening in classrooms? Matt Todd, host of The Ranch Podcast, first realized the extent of the problem while volunteering in his son's first-grade classroom. After his son finished an assignment early, he was “rewarded” with free time on his school-issued Chromebook. With internet browsers and YouTube enabled for educational purposes, the options for entertainment are endless – along with the dangers that come with unsupervised browsing. Kids use their school Chromebooks and iPads during passing periods, at lunch, and even at home (after homework is done). Gamified education, once lauded as a solution to make learning more exciting, is actually fueling an addiction to devices and the behavioral problems that accompany it. Matt has been working with school board officials in Idaho, and he believes they are actively seeking solutions to this growing problem. In this episode, he shares his insights with Nicki of Scrolling 2 Death and explains how raising awareness and educating parents is the best way to make a difference for kids now.
