In Dinner for Shoes episode 42, BFF Brat Summer, Sarah explains why she's newly obsessed with the idea of being a Brat Girl, as long as she has a stylish friend by her side. She chats about some of her favorite pop culture Brat BFF moments this summer, including everyone from Charli XCX and Billie Eilish to Leah Kateb, JaNa Craig, and Serena Page from “Love Island USA.” Sarah also discusses some of her favorite “Brat” fashion brands that you can easily shop to coordinate with your girls. She finishes the episode by eating exactly what OG Brat Charli XCX seems to prefer as her meal of choice: berries and cream (aka a Mini Strawberry Shortcake from Las Chicas Bakery in Union, NJ). Making the internet a nicer place is a tall order, but this week's guest is up for the task. Sam Abrahart is a mental health advocate and the founder of The Mayfair Group. As someone who recognized the hypocrisy of the “perfection” that's often peddled on social media, she wanted to change the narrative. When she started posting real and raw updates on her own life and mental health on social media, and let go of the need to show up in a certain way, people began flocking to her page and her posts. Recognizing that there was a hunger for content centered around honest mental health conversations, Sam grew her social media presence and then decided it was time to launch an apparel brand with a mission. The Mayfair Group makes gear that's gone viral again and again. You might recognize their famous “Empathy” sweatshirt that's been seen all on everyone from celebrities to normies. And now The Mayfair Group is launching a new initiative--sponsoring free virtual therapist-led group sessions for their community. These Mayfair Mental Health sessions will be focused on a specific topic and hosted by a trained therapist from partners at MyWellbeing as well as Mayfair's in house Mental Health professionals. Click HERE for details on how to sign up; the next session starts in March! + How much to share on social media and how to set boundaries around it + Living with depression and what her symptoms looked like + The self-care practices that work for her + The initiative The Mayfair Group is launching to give more people access to mental health assistance + How Mayfair was able to pivot so quickly into selling physical goods --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wegottatalkwithsonni/support

With appearances by her cats, Trish and Kit, and agendas that almost always go to shit, we aim to dive into a discussion about fashion and style and break some bread in each episode. In episode nine, Turkey Truths + Thanksgiving Outfits, Sarah happily doles out advice for what to wear on Thanksgiving, but also acknowledges the fact that it's simply not her favorite holiday. Because of the disappointing history behind Thanksgiving, as well as the traditional dishes that we eat (which Sarah feels are foods in their worst form), it is simply not up to par with the other Hallmark holidays — at least in the Dinner for Shoes book. However, she makes light of the situation by putting her own spin on a turkey takeout order, styling a fitting look inspired by Halle Bailey, and sharing some fashion content from Thanksgivings past. #3: Lauren Elizabeth joins me today to talk about all things mental health, specifically the effects social media has on our mental health and how to cope. Lauren is an OG YouTuber, blogger, podcast host, entrepreneur and mental health advocate. I am in awe of her ability to be so open and vulnerable on such a public platform. She has suffered from depression and struggled with self love, constantly feeling the need to find her identity in relationships and people pleasing. We talk about why she took a long break from all social media platforms, how she is creating a healthy relationship with work to avoid burnout and how she has learned to recognize the triggers that throw her into a depression. I love this girl and the honest conversation we have, and I know you will too! “It doesn't mean you're cocky or conceited if you love yourself.” #MAYFAIRWORLD Get In Touch With Lauren: Follow her on Instagram HERE Follow her podcast, MOOD by Lauren Elizabeth, on Instagram HERE Listen to the MOOD by Lauren Elizabeth Podcast HERE Resources & Stuff We Mentioned: Lauren just finished reading “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover. #2: On today's episode, we're getting uncomfortable with Dom Roberts, a graphic design creative and activist. In the wake of the killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, Dom decided to use her platform and skills to spark uncomfortable conversations, creating a viral Instagram post that received attention from celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Sophia Bush. Our conversation touches on Dom's perspective of the progress today's society is making toward racial equality and her hopes for the future. We also talk about how she stays authentic on social media, how she deals with hate, and her thoughts on cancel culture. “Don't ignore something because it makes you uncomfortable”. #MAYFAIRWORLD Get In Touch With Dom: Follow her on Instagram HERE Follow Get Uncomfortable Org on Instagram HERE Listen to the Get Uncomfortable Podcast HERE Stuff We Mentioned: The Mayfair Group x The Uncomfortable collection 100% of proceeds are donated to Sisters of Watts and The Love Land Foundation, two black female owned organizations serving black communities. 1: We get so many questions on how I started The Mayfair Group, and I only thought it was fitting to have our very first episode on #MAYFAIRWORLD be a solo episode answering this most asked question. The answer is so much longer than what I could put in an Instagram caption, and so much deeper than what you see in an altered social media reality. Through my journey of creating and building The Mayfair Group, I've learned so many things about myself, about finding meaning and purpose in life… 9 things that I specifically want to share with you all today. You all see a successful business through the lens of your phone, but it wasn't an overnight success that got me here; it wasn't all wins and no fails; it wasn't happy tears and ear-to-ear smiles; and it certainly wasn't just me alone. I can't wait for you to tune in to this episode and get vulnerable with me. Welcome to your internet happy place, podcast style! In order to have a meaningful life, you have to create it. Sam Abrahart, founder and CEO of the Mayfair Group, joins me this week to chat about how her search for fulfillment and personal mental health struggle led to launching the agency behind the ultra shareable Instagram content -- also now known as a fashion brand on a mission. (Its “Empathy” sets have been spotted on everyone from J.Lo and Gabrielle Union, and Justin Bieber recently rocked the “Just Be Kind” set.) Sam shares her thoughts on creating a disruptive company, the power of empathy and vulnerability, and why the most important KPI or metric for success needs to start with impact and positive influence, over profit.
