What's your go-to cocktail order? Well, if you're in Milwaukee or somewhere in Wisconsin, there's a good chance it's a brandy old-fashioned. But even where the old fashioned reigns, Milwaukee has a strong cocktail bar scene where you can get endless combinations of cocktails. For cocktail writer and author Robert Simonson, Wisconsin has always held its own in the cocktail world – even when he moved away from home to be a writer in New York City for decades to cover cocktails. Simonson recently returned home to Milwaukee where he will continue to write about food, drink, history and regional culture. To share more about his experience and how the Midwest compares to the East Coast in its cocktail culture, Simonson joins Lake Effect's Audrey Nowakowski.
https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260213dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion [Jesus said] “For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:20 Do You Measure Up? “You must be this tall to go on this ride.” Those were terrible and frustrating words for a young boy to read, especially if his friends and/or cousins were tall enough to get on the roller coaster. It generally did not matter how tall I was. I can remember one summer being just an inch shy of the line, and the ride operator would not make an exception. I would have to wait until I measured up. Getting into heaven is like that. In fact, it is even worse. Jesus himself said that to enter heaven, we would have to be more righteous than the Pharisees of his day. To help understand his point, realize that the Pharisees had added hundreds of their own commands to be obeyed on top of the commands that God gave, and they shunned anyone who couldn't measure up to their rules. It is disheartening, then, to hear Jesus say that not even those self-righteous Pharisees could measure up. Truthfully, no one can. God demands perfection as the entrance requirement for heaven, and nobody can measure up to that. Jesus doesn’t say this because he wants to keep you out of heaven. Rather, he wants you to realize that there is only one way to gain entrance into heaven, and it isn’t through our own efforts. He wants us to see that the only way to heaven is through him. Jesus is the only one who measured up to God’s standard of perfection. He lived a perfect life in our place and achieved righteousness on our behalf. He died in our place on the cross to earn salvation for us. Through faith in Jesus, the standard has been met. He now gives us the ticket to heaven. We don’t need to worry about whether we measure up, because he measured up for us. Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for meeting the standard of perfection for me. Grant me confidence that heaven is open to me because of all you did for me. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. Roxy Striar & Tara Erickson react to Scream 3 (2000), the meta-slasher sequel directed by Wes Craven that brings the original trilogy to its Hollywood-set conclusion. Leaning even harder into self-referential humor and franchise commentary, this chapter shifts the action to the set of Stab 3 while confronting the legacy of Sidney Prescott's past. The film centers once again on Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell – Wild Things, Skyscraper), who has retreated into isolation after years of trauma—until Ghostface resurfaces with a new motive tied to Hollywood secrets. Courteney Cox (Cougar Town, Ace Ventura) returns as relentless reporter Gale Weathers, now navigating career ambition and personal growth, while David Arquette (Never Been Kissed, Eight Legged Freaks) reprises Dewey Riley, whose loyalty and optimism are tested like never before. The supporting cast expands the franchise's scope, including Parker Posey (Best in Show, Lost in Space) as Gale's hilariously unhinged on-screen counterpart Jennifer Jolie, Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy, Enchanted) as detective Mark Kincaid, and Scott Foley (Felicity, True Blood) as the film's shocking mastermind. Fan Favorite moments include the Ghostface voice-changer twist, Sidney's haunting dream sequences, the mansion-set finale, and the reveal of the trilogy's true overarching villain—reframing everything that came before. While lighter in tone than its predecessors, Scream 3 closes the original saga with satire, callbacks, and a final confrontation that cements Sidney's resilience. Welcome to a special deep-dive episode. Sara & Anna are back, reflecting on the everyday reality of expectations. Where they come from, how they show up, and what happens when life doesn't go to plan. Does life ever really measure up to expectation? We explore: Why expectations often lead to disappointment (and why we rarely notice them forming) The “guess what I'm thinking” trap that leaves partners feeling misunderstood How unspoken standards quietly damage relationships What Gottman, Esther Perel, and Brené Brown each reveal about unmet needs and perfectionism The impossible balance we expect from our partners - lover, best friend, therapist, cheerleader, and co-parent, all in one How mismatched expectations play out in everyday life and what it teaches us about communication and choice Reflection: Sara and Anna share stories, laughter, and a few hard truths about: How resentment grows when expectations stay unspoken Why gratitude can shift everything back into perspective The difference between healthy standards and impossible ideals The importance of co-creating a relationship that's leak-proof from outside pressures and social media noise Takeaway: Life may never fully measure up to the picture we imagined, but joy and connection often live in the imperfect moments. When we let go of rigid expectations and focus on gratitude, curiosity, and communication, we make space for something more real and far more fulfilling. Christian Greiner and Phil Kafarakis dissect Darden Restaurants (DRI) earnings. Phil says they have an “incredible portfolio brand” and are “hitting sales goals,” though they missed Street forecasts. He says they have the “secret sauce” by owning some of their properties and “they're doing a great job with innovation” on menu, citing them as a potential long-term play. Christian notes slimming margins, but highlights the breadth of their offerings allowing them more levers to pull than other restaurant players to weather economic storms.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Did you grow up constantly trying to prove yourself? Maybe to your family or to society, or even to God? Have you ever wondered, “Am I good enough? Do I measure up? Will I EVER be good enough?” In the Bible, it says that through Jesus, there's no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. We're all one in Christ. God doesn't look at your title, your job, your past, or where you're from. He looks at your heart—and He's not looking for perfection! Through Jesus, He welcomes all who are willing to follow Him. Are you willing? Just pray, “Jesus, I want to know that I am accepted by You. Will You please forgive me? Thank You for paying the penalty I should have paid to make things right between us. Please meet me with Your love. And thank You. In Jesus' name, amen.” Always remember, there is hope with God. I'm Andrew Palau. Scripture Reference: Galatians 3:28 radio.hopewithgod.com
Who does God say you are? And how do you step into your true identity when the world (and even yourself) have told you otherwise? If you (or your kids) feel unseen, unworthy, or unwanted, this episode is for you. In this powerful conversation, Hosanna Wong shares her journey of growing up on the streets of San Francisco with a father who battled addiction, only to see God transform his life and spark an outdoor church that reached the hurting. Her story goes on to share how she went through some hard years that were full of disappointment and lies from the enemy. She continued to press into the word and God reminded her who she is in Christ, through that season her spoken word ministry was born. Here is some of what we talked about: How God uses ordinary moments and people, like a mother opening her door to a vacuum salesman and sharing faith, to change generations The struggle of feeling like you don't measure up to “good Christian molds” and learning freedom in Christ Why God delights in your unique personality, schedule, and situation, He made you that way on purpose Hosanna reminds us that we have freedom in how we connect with our creator and God wants to meet us where we are Connect with Hosanna Wong: Website: HOSANNA Facebook: Hosanna Wong Instagram: Hosanna Wong (@hosanna.wong) Links Mentioned: SPOKEN WORD: I Have A New Name What God Says About You: By Hosanna Wong You Are More than You've Been Told: By Hosanna Wong Related Episodes: Exchange False Beliefs with True Identity :: Jamie Winship [Ep 433] When You Need a Personal Revival :: Cleere Cherry Reaves [Ep 504] Fighting Toxic Thoughts :: Jennie Allen [Ep 272] Featured Sponsors: Thrive Causemetics: Maximize your look with minimal effort. Jeff Clark, head of defined contribution research at Vanguard, says the firm's latest "How America Saves" report for 2025 shows that consumers are doing a better job of setting money aside for their future, helped by rules that have made it easier for employers to help. The average total savings rate — including both worker contributions plus employer contributions — is now up to 12 percent, a potential target for all investors to try to achieve. Todd Rosenbluth, head of research at VettaFi, turns to the first active bond ETF — a 15-year-old iconic fund from PIMCO — as an ultra-safe alternative to cash with his "ETF of the Week." In the Market Call, Jed Ellerbroek, portfolio manager for Argent Capital and the Argent Large Cap ETF — which launched just as the market was bottoming out after the tariff announcements in April — discusses looking for enduring business models. Plus, Chuck talks about the Federal Reserve and why its independence is so important to the long-term functioning of the economy and the ability to keep inflation controlled.

In this episode of Creative Drive, I share a story about two speeches given at our Toastmasters club in McKinney, Texas. Both were centered on the same idea: measuring success. But the way they were delivered could not have been more different. One left people discouraged and hesitant to participate. The other reminded people that growth happens one percent at a time and that true success is measured by people, not checkboxes. The result was immediate. Members who had been quiet suddenly stepped up. Volunteers filled every role. The energy shifted. This episode is a real-time example of how leadership and encouragement shape culture. If you have ever wondered what makes people lean in versus shut down, you will want to hear this story.

This week's memory verse isPhilippians 3:7–8: “Whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassingworth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”For additional resources or for more information about what 40 Days is all about, please visit journeyconnect.org/40days.
Have you ever felt like a failure, or unworthy, or felt like you needed to keep achieving in order to measure up? In “The Hustle To Measure Up,” Pastor James teaches us that we don't have to keep running on the treadmill to prove ourselves. Our worth does not come from what we have done but from what Christ has done in and through us. We can rest in Him and what He has done.
