Huizenga emphasized the importance of maintaining Republican control in the U.S. Senate and House to continue pushing President Trump's agenda forward. He also touched on the president's foreign diplomacy, citing recent peace deals with Rwanda and Congo, along with praising him for his direct approach when handling international relations. The lifelong Michigan Republican expressed great interest in running for the open U.S. Senate seat, stressing the need to keep the legislative majority in the control of the GOP to prevent a return to the gridlock of 2019.You can learn more about the Congressman, or simply keep up with him by following either of his accounts on X: @BillHuizenga or @RepHuizenga.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In the last week, we have learned that Any media outlet criticizing Trump is corrupt and should be in jail; Any DOJ lawyer or investigator looking into Trump's many crimes is corrupt and will be fired; Any member of Congress investigating Trump's many crimes should go to prison; Any non-white person whether in the country legally or illegally can be snatched up by Homeland Security and immediately sent to an El Salvador prison; We apparently are at war, much to the surprise of a Congress which has the sole power to declare war; Complying with federal court orders is optional; Any judge ruling against Trump policies should be impeached; and Chief John Roberts may actually have a spine.  In Michigan  Governor Whitmer confirms she's not running for the U.S. Senate; New polling shows that the woman she beat by 10 points in 2022 is a contender to win the GOP's nomination for either Governor or the Senate; State House Speaker Matt Hall believes he, like the Governor, has the right to veto legislation; The battle over fixing the damn roads is escalating;  Republican state Representative Bryan Posthumous, a leader in the GOP's election integrity talk, may be engaged in a little election fraud of his own; and  Michigan Republicans continue to duck face-to-face Town Hall meetings, while Democrats schedule as many as they can. Joining the podcast discussion this week is fellow podcaster and longtime state capitol reporter Rick Pluta. Rick is Senior Capitol Correspondent for the Michigan Public Radio Network. He has been covering Michigan's Capitol, government, and politics since 1987. His journalism background includes stints with UPI, The Elizabeth (NJ) Daily Journal, The Oakland Press, and WJR. He is also a lifelong public radio listener. Rick was one of the first Michigan political reporters to write about “pay-to-play” fundraising, and the controversies surrounding recognition of same-sex relationships. He broke the news that Gov. John Engler was planning a huge juvenile justice overhaul that included adult-time-for-adult-crime sentencing, and has continued to report since then on the effects of that policy decision. He co-hosts the weekly podcast “It's Just Politics” with Zoe Clark. Pat explains how Democrats must go on offense, and propose a strong, working class agenda to counter the Anti-Working agenda pushed by Elon Musk, Dear Leader Trump, and MAGA Republicans. Pat explains how it doesn't seem like Democrats are getting the message how people need to know they're hearing their worries while the working class is suffering, and democracy is disappearing. 21:31-40:02: Traverse Indivisible John DeSpelder Interview Traverse Indivisible's John DeSpelder joins the show to talk about a town hall meeting in honor of the always-absent MAGA Republican Congressman Jack Bergman. The Michigan MAGA Republicans majority in the state House passed bills that roll-back minimum wage increases, a phasing-out of the tipped wage law, and paid sick leave.  The state Supreme Court ruled last year that Michigan Republicans back in 2018 acted unconstitutionally when they blocked minimum wage and paid sick leave increases from reaching the ballot, and then weakening the laws during Lame Duck. As predicted, making it easier for people to vote is not only getting more people involved in our democracy or making it easier for county clerks across the state, but it's extremely popular! Thanks to progressive activism in the last decade, and a Democratic Party majority in Lansing, voting rights in Michigan have expanded. Michigan has now broken voting turnouts in 2020 and 2022.  These new voting laws are working as intended. But remember, it could've always been this way had Michigan Republicans, like MAGA Republican U.S. Senate candidate "Florida" Mike Rogers, not worked tirelessly for years to make voting harder, especially for younger Michiganders. Voting rights is also on the ballot! Jaime Greene, R-Richmond, and Nancy DeBoer, R-Holland, announced Monday.Support this podcast: https://secure.anedot.com/franklin-news-foundation/ce052532-b1e4-41c4-945c-d7ce2f52c38a?source_code=xxxxxxFull story: https://www.thecentersquare.com/michigan/article_baaeb866-6ec2-11ef-a57c-1bfde18b2245.html

This week's agenda is Presidential Politics in Michigan: New polling shows Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in a statistical tie. We'll be joined in a moment by EPIC-MRA's Bernie Porn. The candidates are focusing on Michigan. Trump makes two visits, saying we're on the verge of World War III. Kamala Harris will revive a longstanding tradition of a Democratic candidate Metro Detroit rally on Labor Day. Michigan Republicans continue to embarrass themselves, this time with a convention that features the forced ejection of their former chair. Bobby Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein will all be on Michigan's presidential ballot even though RFK Jr. wants out More than 200 former Trump staffers and leaders of the presidential campaigns of John McCain and MItt Romney are endorsing Kamala Harris - an unprecedented political repudiation by the people who know Trump the best We have two guests on this week's podcast: Pollster Bernie Porn leads us through the numbers in his company's latest polling in Michigan. It's generally good-but-not-great news for Democrats in a campaign that's very, very tight. And one of the founders of Michigan's first citizen-run redistricting process reflects on the apparent end of the first redistricting cycle, seven-and-a-half years after Voters Not Politicians kicked off its historic campaign to amend Michigan's constitution is now complete. We talk with the leader of the grassroots group, Jamie Lyons-Eddy. Joining that chat is our producer, Walt Sorg, another of the founders of VNP and co-author of the constitutional amendment.   =========================== This episode is sponsored in part by EPIC ▪ MRA, a full service survey research firm with expertise in • Public Opinion Surveys • Market Research Studies • Live Telephone Surveys • On-Line and Automated Surveys • Focus Group Research • Bond Proposals - Millage Campaigns • Political Campaigns & Consulting • Ballot Proposals - Issue Advocacy Research • Community - Media Relations • Issue - Image Management • Database Development & List Management ===========================

SERIES 2 EPISODE 195: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump is losing his mind. If Joe Biden gave a speech in which he claimed everybody agreed he was in full robust mental health because he'd passed a test administered by Doctor Anthony… Hopkins. Or Anthony Bourdain… or Anthony Michael Hall – any Anthony except the doctor who gave him the theoretical test, Doctor Anthony FAUCI. If that had happened to Joe Biden there would be nothing else on television or the internet. But Trump has gotten away with it in part because he is so crazy, so loudly, so often, that it all runs together and, perversely, each Trump mental disaster stops seeming like it's part OF a sequence. Each Trump mental disaster REPLACES the one before it. I have a thought experiment about that to underscore how that's even MORE true than you or I might assume it is. But the second half of the headline? That he's losing his mind AND the election?New Ipsos poll for Politico yesterday: ONE THIRD of all voters say they are now LESS likely to support Trump. Among independents, same number, a third, less likely to vote for him; only 12% of independents say MORE likely to vote for him.Ipsos also dug a little deeper. Are the convictions IMPORTANT in your decision whether or not to vote for Trump? 22% say the convictions ARE important AND make them less likely to vote for him.  He's losing. And Biden has dfinally called him a "convicted criminal" in an official campaign ad. Next? The President saying it himself. I think that is also coming. B-Block (41:47) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Another GOP flag scandal: Newt Gingrich is back because his eyesight is almost as weak as his intelligence. The Michigan Republican who posts, disavows, then embraces an AI endorsement from Martin Luther King. The Associated Press puts out a transparent ad for Trump. And Royce White, would be Republican Senator from Minnesota, would have you believe that there is a crime wave there caused by... water fountains? C-Block (50:02) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: The almost certainty that Turner Sports is about to lose the NBA reminds me of the summer Ted Turner almost got the rights to the NFL. Not the games - the entire league.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

SERIES 2 EPISODE 131: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump under-performs AGAIN, falling short of polling by at least 17 points in the Michigan Republican. And Biden OVER-performs AGAIN, and so does the “Uncommitted” protest votes against his Israel-Gaza policy, in what is looking like a gentle rebuke in the Michigan Democratic Primary. PLUS: LEGACY NEWS MEDIA BREAKTHROUGH: After Trump did a hatful of racisms at “The Black Conservative Federation Gala” (the one that had almost no blacks in attendance) the president of ABC News Kim Godwin emailed people on her staff that “these remarks are as racist as they come…mind blowing. Shocking.” Of course they were NOT shocking and Godwin's response might as well have been “wait – Trump was PRESIDENT?” and that only underscores the media disconnect from the reality of the evil of Trump. But the headline is: SHE TOOK A STAND and did so in writing, knowing it would get out. She may have had ulterior motives (she's been dreadful and loathed on the job; she just got another boss appointed above her; she may be trying to stave off dismissal) and they don't matter. She SAID something – more than her network or any network actually has. It may have moved the needle a bit. COMER DOUBLES DOWN: You wouldn't, I wouldn't. But he and Jim Jordan – with a new jailed witness replacing the first jailed witness as the primary asset in their President Biden Impeachment/Hunter Biden Smear – have doubled down. They've subpoenaed Merrick Garland for all of corrupt Special Counsel Robert Hur's transcripts, videos, etc. If Garland were smart, he'd fight the subpoena and say that of course while it's being ajudicated, Hur can't say anything, especially to the House Committee. Because it would be useful if Democrats began to ask themselves: What dirty trick would a Republican play in this situation. And apply it not just to a subpoena from some whores in Congress, but to the dilemma in Michigan and, for that matter, at the border. Which leads me to a modest proposal: Biden should steal the issue, control the process, and neuter Trump all in one fell swoop. HE should declare HE is building a wall and destroy the feeble minds of 60 million Trumpists. A wall can be anything more than six inches long. B-BLOCK (30:08) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Axios slams Biden for having note cards at fundraisers. Then, a Democratic county chairman finds pictures of the Axios reporter and the Axios co-founder reading questions off note cards. A NewsMax host thinks the DHS Secretary can be impeached for breaking not laws, but laws NewsMax would like to see. And besides the foolishness of the GoFundMe to pay the now $466 Million Trump owes the state of New York, there's a hidden reveal inside the boilerplate at the website that suggests the right may have another “Moms For THAT Kind of Liberty Wocka-Wocka” scandal in its bed. C-BLOCK (38:38) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Well we started on baseball spring training yesterday. Let's continue. Let me tell you the tale of day I paid cash to suppress a story that would have rocked the World Series – the most famous pitcher in the game had gotten within inches of a fight, with a fan of his own team, and I made sure… nobody saw the video.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

SERIES 2 EPISODE 97: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: For all those wringing their hands about disqualifying Trump from the ballot via the 14th Amendment without a conviction: What would Donald Trump have done with Joe Biden if January 6th had somehow worked? Or TO him? It's January 20, 2021 and the 46th President-Elect of the United States is prevented by whatever means from assuming office as demanded by the Constitution and Trump remains in power extra-legally, extra-judicially, extra-constitutionally. And we are supposed to believe that Biden would have been left free to speak in public, on television, on social media, to the press, in the courts, to the Speaker Pelosi or Majority Leader Schumer, to the Democratic governors with their authority over the National Guard? Trump would have found a pretext to detain him. Or he HAD a pretext to detain him; a plan we just haven't found out about. Having once crossed the ultimate threshold – ENDING 237 years of American democracy – having retained power as a dictator by some other name, what would Trump have then NOT been willing to do? And most importantly, what Trump would have done with a man he would've wanted the world to believe was an extra, illegitimate American president who had somehow plotted against Trump? He would have had Joe Biden killed. Or if somebody had stopped him from that, he would have had him seized somehow, by someone, by some official sounding but ultimately fabricated and illegal and anti-American quote “authority” unquote, and held. Incommunicado. With Kamala Harris and Pelosi and Schumer and uncooperative Senators and Congressmen of both parties and hundreds of reporters and editors and you and me and god knows how many others, on the pretext of god knows WHAT kind of imaginary plot to… enforce the Constitution? THAT is why the Colorado Supreme Court was right. Because THAT second plan is the TRUE comparison to the Civil War traitors on whom the 14th Amendment was first applied. Because the Confederacy's plans involved killing the President and the Vice President and half the cabinet and burning down New York City and seizing Northern ports. And just because the Confederacy did not win the Civil War those plans did not miraculously disappear from the minds of the traitors. Just as Trump's plans for what to do with one president too many did not miraculously disappear from HIS diseased and monomaniacal and traitorous mind. The 14th Amendment is Iabout what ELSE he was willing to do, and what horrors he is willing to precipitate today, and in 2024, and, god forbid, in January of 2029. ALSO: Trump's not an insurrectionist! He was so concerned about it he posted 11 whole words denying it. And as his lapdogs race to defend his paraphrases of Hitler, Trump undercut them again last night by repeating the "blood poisoning" line. He's also in even more insurrection trouble: turns out there's a RECORDING of his phone conversation pressuring Michigan Republicans to not certify Biden's win there in November, 2020. And Ronna McDaniel could go to jail - she's on the tape too, offering to pay for their lawyers. That is a bribe. And for comic relief, Rudy Giuliani has gone from Moral Bankruptcy to Actual Bankruptcy. He's filed for Chapter 11. And while he's unlikely to get it granted, he has revealed who he owes money to it and the list somehow includes Hunter Biden! It's so bad it has inspired yet more "singing" on the part of your deluded tone deaf host. B-Block (28:15) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Rep. Tim Burchett thinks there are Republicans in the House being blackmailed with honey pots. He describes in stark detail (as if he were in the room when it happened!) what that would've been like. Kiss The Washington Post goodbye; its new publisher was a Murdoch editor. And John Schneider threatens Biden again. John Schneider. The actor. The guy from 'Dukes Of Hazzard.' The actor you thought was DEAD. C-Block (34:40) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: Only one way to close out 2023: with James Thurber's amazingly prescient saga of a man everyone thinks is a hero but is in fact a nightmare who must be stopped: "The Greatest Man In The World." And no, he wrote this 15 years before Trump was born.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
