The most unqualified national security team ever assembled demonstrates its total lack of competence…and defends itself by attacking Atlantic Magazine and Jeffrey Goldberg. Their fallback defense: no harm, no foul. The attack was successful so it's no big whoop. Trump, who appears to be out of the loop on a lot of what's happening inside his administration, is keeping his focus on leveraging the presidency to make money for himself, while co-President Elon Musk continues his brazen violations of federal laws and the U.S. constitution. The latest outrages from the Trump-Musk administration: intimidating, punishing and extorting any law firm that dares challenge their mission to destroy the federal government; using the unmatched financial leverage of the federal budget to demand fealty from universities and large corporations; and a new Executive Order which will take away voting rights from untold hundreds-of-thousands of Americans. In this episode of the Foundation Worldview Podcast, Elizabeth Urbanowicz addresses a profound question from an 8-year-old: "Why did God create Lucifer if He knew Lucifer would rebel?" Elizabeth walks listeners through how to respond when children ask tough questions about God's plan and the existence of evil. She explains how to affirm a child's curiosity, discern the root of their question, and guide them in biblical truths about God's character. With Scripture as the foundation, Elizabeth encourages parents to help their children understand that, while we may not know all the answers, we can trust in God's goodness and His ultimate plan for redemption. Tune in for practical guidance and recommended resources for deeper exploration. In “Eating at the End of the World,” Gravy producer Katie Jane Fernelius takes a close look at the culture of disaster prep, especially how people eat when disaster strikes. As it turns out, how people provision for disaster can differ wildly from how they actually feed themselves, and each other, once a storm blows through. After living without power for almost two weeks following Hurricane Ida, Fernelius fell down a rabbit hole of prepper content. She discovered cartons of shelf-stable water, large cans of peaches and green beans, wide varieties of dehydrated meals, and large “apocalypse buckets” full of everything a person might need following a disaster. In short, she discovered a booming industry. So, she was curious: Who preps? For what? And why? In this episode, Fernelius talks to cultural anthropologist Chad Huddleston, who studies the rise of prepper culture—and consumerism—following Hurricane Katrina. He talks about how the kinds of food that preppers keep in their pantries has shifted over time, and how “prepper” foods have never been so popular and available as they are today. Fernelius also interviews a mutual aid organizer in New Orleans named Miriam Belblidia, who contrasts the utility of “prepping” against her actual experience of living in the aftermath of a hurricane. She says that when we think of prepping, we should be far more concerned with how we prepare community resources than how we prepare individual ones. Special thanks to Chad Huddlestone, Miriam Beblidia, and all the people who organized mutual aid in New Orleans following Hurricane Ida. Thank you to Heather Cole for her fact-checking. This is the final part of the 2006 speech given by Rockwell Collins CEO, Clay Jones. I worked at Rockwell Collins from 1999-2017, and was heavily involved in the Lean Electronics program. In this clip, he answers audience questions: 1) How to immerse Lean into the culture? 2) How is he going after employee healthcare costs? (asked by George Koenigsaecker) 3) What are the biggest barriers he is concerned about? In his answers, he mentions the importance of coaching and mentoring, but also discusses the classroom and virtual training courses, knowledge management and the Communities of Practice program. He also shares some of the work that Rockwell Collins has done to drive Lean into healthcare (including a grant program I worked on). Finally, he stressed the importance of not being complacent, always looking for waste and reducing cost of nonconformance, and the strive for continuous improvement. I also share my thoughts on what happened to the Lean program when Kelly Ortberg (now the Boeing CEO and President) took over for Clay in 2013. This is part 5 of the 2006 speech given by Rockwell Collins CEO, Clay Jones. I worked at Rockwell Collins from 1999-2017, and was heavily involved in the Lean Electronics program. In this clip, you'll hear him discuss the 5 lessons learned from the first 8 years of the Lean journey at Rockwell Collins (1998 to 2006). Senior Leadership alignment Managing change and resistance Course correction when needed Implement Value Stream Mapping first Ask for help "If leadership isn't driving your Lean transformation, don't even start. It's like teaching a pig to talk. You're wasting your time, and you're annoying the pig" - Clay Jones He shares some impressive results that were partly due to Lean implementation. Stock price increase of 260%, return on investment capital from 21% to 38%, sales almost doubled from $1.8B to $3.5B, net income over 80%, both business units over 18% operating margin, along with the traditional improvements to on-time delivery, customer acceptance (quality) and sales per employee. This is part 4 of the 2006 speech given by Rockwell Collins CEO, Clay Jones. I worked at Rockwell Collins from 1999-2017, and was heavily involved in the Lean Electronics program. In this clip, you'll hear him discuss how they expanded on the Core Process Optimization efforts to move to Lifecycle Value Stream Management. This allowed them to address the wastes in the handoffs between major processes. The VSM roles required them to change their roles, metrics, behaviors and cost allocations. "Lean is a journey, not a destination" - Clay Jones He also shares how they expanded Lean into innovation and creative processes like Engineering, Design and Development and Research. This broke the stereotype that Lean was only for manufacturing. The standardization of these major processes helped bring some consistency and efficiency to how a product was proposed, funded, managed, designed, transitioned and supported. He also reiterated the importance of knowledge management in capture information and disseminating it across the organizations and value streams. This book, by Clay Jones, deals with the human fear of death and what we can do about it. I'm looking this time at chapter 5, which discusses various unsuccessful secular attempts to give us a sense of transcendence over death.
This is part 3 of the 2006 speech given by Rockwell Collins CEO, Clay Jones. I worked at Rockwell Collins from 1999-2017, and was heavily involved in the Lean Electronics program. In this clip, you'll hear him discuss why they brought in some external consultants like John Shook and Denny Mead to try and figure out why all the improvements were not showing an impact on the bottom-line results or other key metrics. The RC Scorecard was developed to give a balanced view across the company, and it included a critical metric, called Cost of Nonconformance (CONC), which I was heavily involved with. He also discusses how leadership needed to become more engaged in value stream mapping to help drive the right improvements in the right areas by following the new "Lean Roadmap." This is part 2 of the 2006 speech given by Rockwell Collins CEO, Clay Jones. I worked at Rockwell Collins from 1999-2017, and was heavily involved in the Lean Electronics program. In this clip, you'll hear him discuss how they created and rolled out Lean Electronics program across both manufacturing and the office, and selected Decorah (Iowa) as the pilot site. In the first few years (1998-2000), they achieved lots of successes (conducting over 600 kaizen events a year with reductions of 20-40%), but something was missing. Enterprise Value Stream Mapping was added through an initiative called Core Process Optimization (CPO) to look at major pieces of the customer journey, from Sales and Marketing, Design and Development, Build (Manufacturing) and Sales and Support. Dr. Clay Jones gives an in depth analysis of the depravity of man and responds to the problem of evil. Session 2.
For many, death is terrifying. We try to live as long as possible while hoping that science will soon find a way to allow us to live, if not forever, then at least a very long time. Whether we deny our mortality though literal or symbolic immortality or try to turn death into something benign, our attempts fail us. But what if the real solution is not in denying death's reality, but in acknowledging it while enjoying a hope for a wonderful forever? Clay Jones, a professor of Christian apologetics, explores the ways people face death and how these “immortality projects” are unsuccessful, even destructive. Along the way, he points to the hope of the only true immortality available to all—the truth that God already offers a path to our hearts' deepest longing: glorious resurrection to eternal life. In “A Shrimp Boat Blessing with no Shrimp Boats,” Gravy producer Irina Zhorov takes listeners to Bayou La Batre, on Alabama's Gulf Coast. Long known as the seafood capital of Alabama, Bayou La Batre has hosted a Blessing of the Fleet – a festival to bless local commercial shrimp and fishing boats – since the 1940s. Fishing has long been a dangerous and capricious industry, where luck – in harvests, weather, accidents – has almost as much to do with a captain's success as his skill. The annual blessing, an old European tradition established in Bayou La Batre by a Catholic family of transplants from Louisiana, was a bulwark to ever-present risks. Shrimp boat captains would decorate their boats with festive flags and parade along the bayou, receiving a blessing from the Archbishop of Mobile, a little courage to go back out to sea. But as the industry changed and evolved, what the Blessing could do seemed less obvious. Boats were built bigger and with refrigeration, so people could stay at sea longer and bring in bigger harvests. At the same time, systemic threats emerged to the shrimping industry. Competition from imports and farm-raised shrimp is keeping shrimp prices unsustainably low while prices for gas, insurance and maintenance grow. The Blessing hasn't kept up with the changes. Many captains are too busy hustling for economic survival to show up. Not a single commercial shrimp boat attended the 2023 Blessing of the Fleet. In this episode, Zhorov talks to Vincent Bosarge, Deacon at St. Margaret's Church, which hosts the Blessing, who grew up going to the festival; Rodney Lyons, a fisherman whose family once supported the Blessing by donating food but who no longer attends; Jeremy Zirlott, a younger shrimper who says he's struggled to make ends meet in the industry's current state and who's never put his boats in the Blessing; and Tommy Purvis and Kimberly Barrow, who shrimp on the side but for whom the Blessing is a vital tradition. In this episode, you'll hear: The long-term impacts of moving around a lot when you are a child How to level up by moving through your fears and triggers What helped Clay find forgiveness for his parents after their deaths? Clay Jones is a father, social worker, and survivor who grew up as the youngest child in a dysfunctional, alcoholic, incestuous, and abusive family blended by marriage that frequently moved around the world. Mathew and Dr. Dave talk about the pros and cons of a transient childhood and how it impacted Clay in the long term. He tells us he felt like "the lost child" who didn't mourn leaving people and places he never felt connected to in the first place. Often left to his own devices, he says he became a "frozen boy" that grew into a "frozen man," not allowing himself to feel the good or the bad. He felt most safe with his older sister, but it wasn't until he was an adult that he learned his father had been sexually abusing her from ages 8 to 12. This caused her to be distant from the family and had a profoundly negative impact on Clay. Domestic violence is often thought of as just involving male perpetrators and female survivors, but it's more complicated than that. Clay is now 20 years into his healing journey and is learning how to fully feel for the first time in a safe space. Even though the feeling of fear will never go away entirely, the ability to recognize it and move forward through it is its own sign of progress in recovery and reparenting. Clay has found ways to forgive both of his parents after their passing, and the trauma of his childhood now makes him a great social worker and loving father. The most important thing in his recovery has been taking a leap of faith, pushing past the shame, finding a community, connecting, and developing healthy relationships. Clay has written a memoir about his life called My Sister's Brother. A short version of his recovery story can be found here. "Forgiveness is an inside job." In the last few years, many Christians had said that all Christians need to be winsome at ALL times. Now, of course, Christians should always have the fruit of the Spirit in their lives and that absolutely must govern our conversations. But it is not that simple. Some Christian apologists are so nice and so accepting when talking with those who have rejected the truths of Christianity that the non-Christian they were talking to might not realize that their eternal destination is at stake. Also, believers need to be careful that winsome doesn't become a cloak for cowardice. The word winsome is defined by Merriam-Webster as “1: generally pleasing and engaging often because of a childlike charm and innocence….: CHEERFUL, LIGHTHEARTED” (capitalization in original). The Cambridge Dictionary defines it as “attractive and pleasing, with simple qualities, sometimes like those a child has.” Princeton Writes defines winsome as “pleasing or attractive in appearance, handsome, comely; of attractive nature or disposition, of winning character or manners.” Now Jesus may have evinced a “winning character or manners,” but “attractive in appearance, handsome, comely” perhaps isn't true because we read in Isaiah, “he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him” (53:2). And did Jesus always come across with an “attractive nature or disposition”? There is a great difference between Jesus' ministry and much Christian public discourse today. Namely, Jesus wasn't concerned about scoring political gains, except indirectly as He changed the hearts of those in power. Since Jesus was not trying to win the Pharisees over, He was laying out plain truth for the audience's sake. Jesus was letting the crowd know that the Pharisees were evil and that their counsel should be rejected. When the Mormons (also known as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) come to my door, you should always ask them the same question because it's a question Mormons can't answer. You should do this because this question is essential to their beliefs. The question to ask regards why Mormons believe Mormonism is true, which they believe to be true because they had a subjective personal inward witness of the truth of it. The book of Moroni encourages seeking this inward witness (what follows is on the first page of one of my copies of the Book of Mormon): “Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things….that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost” (Moroni 10:3–5). This is also known as the “burning in the bosom.” In their Doctrine and Covenants, which Mormons also consider to be inspired scripture, it says, “But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right” (9:8). Now obviously if any person believes that they have received a personal revelation — directly from God — that something is true, then that can trump just about any other arguments about the truth of whatever they believe. Therefore, if a Christian chooses to argue with a Mormon about any other doctrine, it's unlikely to change their minds because they have received what they believe is a subjective personal assurance directly from God that Mormonism is true. Therefore, the question concerns the trustworthiness of their subjective personal experience. This week we have Clay Jones and Sara Michael from 901PT and we are talking about a huge pain in your...back. Back pain is one of the most common ailments among cyclists, runners, and triathletes. Yet most athletes have zero clue as to what is normal, what needs to be addressed, and ultimately how to fix it so you can keep doing what you love. One of the best nuggets from the episode is the traffic light pain scale Clay and his team use to help athletes decide if it is normal pain, pain that is fine but you shouldn't increase your training load, or pain that needs professional help. Such a simple way to help you decide whether to keep the hammer down, feather the brakes, or lock em up! So whether you think "no pain no gain" or your mantra is "oh my aching back", join us for another episode of Coaches on Couches! You can find Clay and Sara @901pt

For us to have a robust free will, there must be an amount of divine hiddenness, or what John Hick called “epistemic distance.” Divine hiddenness is the teaching that for humans to act out of free will, God's existence (or presence) can't be too obvious. Not surprisingly, this is a doctrine that many Christians misunderstand and over which skeptics howl. Many Christians ask, and even sometimes complain, that God should make His presence more apparent. Skeptics complain that if God really loved us (in other words, if God were really a good God), He would make His existence unmistakable. But the Lord absolutely doesn't want to do that. Why? Because the Lord doesn't want us to feign loyalty. As Clay Jones wrote in his book, Why Does God Allow Evil?, God could have designed the universe so that when we looked up, even if we were indoors, we would always see a Giant Flaming Sword, and if anyone rebelled against God, that Giant Flaming Sword would immediately cut him in half! Omnipotence could easily do such a thing. But how many people would be Christian in such a world? All of them! Everyone would, at the very least, feign loyalty. But how many true worshippers would you get in such a world? You don't get true worshippers in that world. Worship, like love, must be uncoerced. This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with Journal author Clay Jones about his article in the 44:4 issue, entitled, “Four Types of Divine Hiddenness of God”.For a special limited preview of this print article please click here! https://www.equip.org/article/four-types-of-divine-hiddenness-of-god-special-limited-preview/To read the article in it's entirety please subscribe to the print subscription and get it as your first issue now. Most of us don't think about death all that much, at least until we experience it near us. And yet, when we examine our behaviour, we will find that almost everything we do is driven by our fear of death at some level. How does the gospel change the framework on this? Andy and Steve invited a friend and teacher, Dr. Clay Jones, to discuss his newest book, Immortal: How the Fear of Death Drives Us and What We Can Do About It.
Many Christians believe that there are good non-Christians. After all, if you actually know some good non-Christians, then there must be good non-Christians, right? Now, it is true there are many apparently good non-Christians, but we must not confuse outward goodness with inward goodness. For Jesus, evil is always, first and foremost, a matter of the heart. Still, Christians wonder: Is it possible for a person to be a good person outside of a relationship with Christ? This is not to say that Christians don't sin. They do, often, and sometimes grievously. Of course, Christians sin! I do. But true Christians — those who have been born again, those who have been filled with the Holy Spirit — are changed from within. They become “obedient from the heart” and “slaves of righteousness” (Rom. 6:17–18). In other words, the Christian's inner person wants to do God's will even if sometimes they choose not to.This episode is a discussion about human “goodness” apart from Christ with contributing Christian Research Journal writer Clay Jones and his Viewpoint article, “Is It True That There Are Good Non-Christians?” in the print edition Volume 44 No. 2. https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/what-scientific-materialism-fails-to-explain/Available as your first issue (July 2021) when you subscribe, click here to find out more. https://www.equip.org/product/crj-subscription/When you to subscribe to the Journal, you join the team of print subscribers whose paid subscriptions help provide the resources at equip.org that minister to people worldwide. Some people proclaim that they are Christians, that “my faith is very important to me,” and talk openly about Jesus, but they say these things while they are living in overt, unrepentant sexual sin. Hopefully, that's not you. But if it is, then you probably aren't saved, and, unless you repent, you will be lost forever. The idea that someone is probably not saved if they are living in overt, unrepentant sexual sin — is one that will baffle and/or upset many people. But the Bible is clear about this. Consider Ephesians 5:3, 5–6: “But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints….For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” But I've Prayed “the Sinner's Prayer”! Some will protest that they believe in Jesus and that they have prayed the sinner's prayer, so that means they are saved. No, it does not. Without repentance, those are what Paul called, “empty words.” The sinner's prayer never saved anyone, and faith that doesn't result in a change of behavior isn't a saving faith. This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with Journal author Clay Jones about his 44:1 Viewpoint article, “You Probably Aren't Saved If…(This Is about Sex)” which you receive as your first issue for new subscribers (Spring 2021). https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/the-genius-of-job-contents/To subscribe to the Journal, please click here.https://www.equip.org/product/crj-subscription/When you to subscribe to the Journal, you join the team of print subscribers whose paid subscriptions help provide the resources at equip.org that minister to people worldwide. On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast, we present an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank's guest is Dr. Clay Jones, author of Immortal: How the Fear of Death Drives Us and What We Can Do About It. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2009wa/Hank and Dr. Jones discuss different ways that people avoid the fear of death, if the average person is afraid of death, why Jones wasn't afraid to die when he received a terminal cancer diagnosis, what would happen if we found a cure to cancer, and what happens when you die.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank highlights an article in the brand new edition of the Christian Research Journal titledhttps://www.equip.org/product/crj-subscription/ , “Symbolic Immortality Projects Can't Save You” by Clay Jones, who is also the author of the featured resource of the month, Immortal: How the Fear of Death Drives Us and What We Can Do About It. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2009wa/ In the article, Jones explains what symbolic immortality projects are—humankind's attempts to avoid the finality of death through various activities such as having children, writing a book, or creating a work of art—and why they all ultimately fail. “After all,” says Jones, “symbolic immortality is only symbolic—when you die, you're still dead.”Hank also answers the following questions:I've been struggling with something that happened to me a few years ago and came across 2 Thessalonians 2:11. Did I experience this strong delusion?Abortion on the one hand is murder, but on the other hand, abortion has saved millions from eternal perdition. Your thoughts?

An atheist offers what he sees as the best arguments against God. I admit ahead of time that this is mostly low hanging fruit. But I also would say that this sort of atheist reasoning is so prevalent that it needs to be addressed. That being said, this stuff is pretty bad. I want to offer a breakdown of this atheist's article which is perhaps a pretty serious commentary on some of the problems in pop-atheism. All in all, there are 4 really bad arguments, and 1 really tough one. I'll try to get to all of them, but when I did this for my small group yesterday I was only able to get to the first four. We'll see how it goes. This video is in lieu of the Mark series which will pick up in TWO weeks. Time Stamps: 1. 6:23 We Are All Atheists2. 24:46 Religion Only Exists Through Indoctrination3. 44:42 Atheism Is Instinctual4. 48:06 Religion Is Desperation5. 1:00:58 The Problem of Evil Links and more links to stuff you probably want to see: The original article I'm responding to is HERE. Is there life after death? Yes! For many death is terrifying, leading us to try to live as long as possible while hoping that science will find a way for us to live longer—if not forever. However, most people are in denial about death. What if the solution is not denying death's reality, but recognizing it and relishing the reality that we will live fantastically forever? Clay Jones joins Hank to discuss his book Immortal: How the Fear of Death Drives Us and What We Can Do About It, https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2009wa/ which explores the ways people face death and how you can conquer the fear of death by realizing the joyous reality of immortality.
