We're bringing back one of our favorite episodes packed with an inspiring journey of Mike Gross, the COO of Kiddie Credit, in revolutionizing how children learn about money management and credit. Drawing from his own struggles with college debt, Mike realized the importance of financial education early on. This led to the creation of the Kiddie Credit app, which teaches kids about credit scores by simulating real-world scenarios based on chores. The app empowers children to build healthy financial habits through a fun, interactive model, fostering responsibility and financial literacy from a young age. At the heart of Mike's mission is the belief that credit is not just about borrowing money, but managing one's reputation. Kiddie Credit helps children understand the importance of saving before spending and teaches them how to navigate credit responsibly. Mike's broader goal is to prepare the next generation for financial freedom by educating them on the value of money, credit, and investment. Through features like "Credit Quest" and a redesigned user interface, Kiddie Credit aims to expand its educational content, offering families more tools to enhance financial literacy and promote wealth equity. By teaching kids about financial management today, we can shape a wealthier, more financially responsible tomorrow. Join Mike Gross and Kiddie Credit in empowering the next generation to take control of their financial futures. Download the app now to start building the foundation for your child's financial success! This is a replay of our Giving Kredit Podcast, and we're thrilled to share it again with you! The Hollis Country Store is a historic general store on Arkansas Highway 7 in rural Perry County, Arkansas. It is located on the west side of AR 7 in the Ouachita National Forest, a short way north of the South Fourche LaFave River Bridge. In addition to the store, the property includes a picnic shelter and two tourist cabins. The core of the store is a stone structure built in 1931–32, with most of the other parts added in the 1950s. The Hollis Country Store is an excellent example of vernacular roadside architecture from the period. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Originally built by Mike Gross and William (Bill) Furr, the store was purchased in 1940 by Dennis and Lillie Crain. Members of the Crain family have operated the store since 1940. The current owners are Donnie and Melissa Crain, the 4th generation of owners from the Crain family. The Hollis Country Store is a popular destination for Arkansas Scenic Highway 7 travelers for its nostalgia, old-time candy and sodas, and bologna sandwiches. “Whatever you're doing, the sooner you get started on it, the sooner you can reach your goals and dreams.” Mike Ross When it comes to financial literacy, the earlier one gets to learn about it the better placed they will be to make good financial decisions. This is according to our guest today, Mike Ross, who has been in the business of educating young people to understand about money usage from an early age. Mike Gross is a dynamic speaker, facilitator, entrepreneur coach, and youth development professional. He has spent more than 10 years creating, designing, & facilitating programs for tomorrow's leaders and those that serve them. Spreading a message emphasizing entrepreneurship, motivation, leadership, and changing the paradigm on young people of color. He is also the founder of the WesGold Fellows Summer Internship (www.wesgoldfellows.com), co-founder of educational app startup Kiddie Kredit (www.kiddiekredit.com ) and the author of the youth entrepreneurship book, ‘You Can, You Should, You're P.A.I.D., a Guide to the Successful Entrepreneur Mindset,” which can be found on Amazon or directly on his website. In today's episode, Mike will talk about his business and some of the factors that have greatly contributed to the success of his business. Listen in! Social Media LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mikegrosscepf/ Website: www.mikegrossonline.com I feel like I have always been in a position to help others and I always thought that whatever the career I got into it was going to be helping others to reach their potential. [2:12] The business that we've created is called kitty credit which is a mobile chore tracking app designed to prepare families for the risks of using credit. [2:26] In advance of you ever having to actually use credit, we want you to understand both how it works, and how it impacts your life moving forward. [3:31] We know that credit is one of the most important wealth building tools that America has to offer. [3:39] Our goal is to start at a much younger age to ensure that you know how to use it effectively. [3:55] When it comes to your finances, it's often a really emotionally charged topic and families look at it in different ways. [8:32] If I can get you from that foundational level to understand that money and credit are tools that you can use effectively for your future, then we're in a better position. [9:37] Commercial break. [11:47] What have I learned about myself is, first that I love starting things. [13:05] One of the most important things that I've learned is, you cannot do this effectively without a good team. [13:31] The strengths that I have that helped me to succeed in business being able to envision the final endgame of what we're trying to get to. [14:07] There are so many people who help you achieve whatever it is that you're getting to. [16:13] You're standing on the shoulders of giants who have already come before you and laid the foundation to be able to build the business you want after that. [16:19] There are a good number of people who are excited to support the mission and vision when you clearly lay it out. [19:11] Once we have something to get behind, we can build together and leverage the skills, abilities and time of other people. [19:24] There is no reason you can't start today, whatever the idea or business goal. [20:57] Whatever you're doing, the sooner you get started on it, the sooner you can reach your goals and dreams. [21:13] It is not always about the money, there has to be a bigger goal in mind for what you are accomplishing which can push you through those really difficult times. [21:44] Take measured intentional steps to reach whatever the goals that you have for yourself. [22:54] ………………………………………………… Thank you to our December sponsor! Study: An empirical examination comparing the Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment approach and Psychological Skills Training for the mental health and sport performance of female student athletes Abstract: The present study was a randomised controlled trial investigating the effectiveness of the Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment (MAC) approach compared to traditional Psychological Skills Training (PST) for the mental health and sport performance of female collegiate athletes. Two hypotheses were proposed: (a) participants in the MAC group would demonstrate reduced behavioural issues, emotional distress, and psychological symptoms, and increased athletic performance when compared to those in the PST group; (b) MAC participants would exhibit reduced emotion dysregulation and increased psychological flexibility and dispositional mindfulness, compared to PST participants. Participants included 18 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III female student athletes who were randomly assigned into either the MAC or PST group based upon pre-intervention levels of distress; and were assessed pre-intervention, post-intervention, and at 1-month follow-up. A mixed-model ANOVA analysis revealed that the MAC effectively reduced Substance Use, Hostility, and Emotion Dysregulation over time when compared to the PST group. Several within-group differences also emerged, as MAC participants demonstrated reduced Generalised Anxiety, Eating Concerns, and Psychological Distress, as well as increased psychological flexibility from post-intervention to one-month follow-up. As per coach ratings, MAC participants also evidenced improved sport performance from pre-intervention to post-intervention. Results suggest that the MAC is an effective intervention for the mental health and sport performance needs of female collegiate athletes. For 37 consecutive years, Wright State’s Model United Nations team has earned a delegation award at the national conference in New York City. The university’s latest delegation award came in March, when the team was tasked with the challenge of representing the Islamic Republic of Iran at the 2016 National Model United Nations Conference. Wright State students also consistently receive Outstanding Position Paper awards at the conference. The Model UN is a conference similar to that of the United Nations in which students participate as delegates to various UN committees. The participants research and formulate political positions based on the actual policies of the countries they represent. At Wright State, preparation for the conference involves more than just writing papers and learning a country’s national policy. Delegates are taught how to implement a country’s policy, how to dress, how to act in committee and what to expect from other countries they will work with in committee. The team’s faculty advisers are Vaughn Shannon, associate professor of political science, and Liam Anderson, professor of political science. The 2016 team included head delegates Angie Loyd and Garrett Teets and members Eric Allen, Amanda Baker, Paige Bokman, Crystal Burns, Katie Chaney, Allyson Clark, Elizabeth Crisler, Mike Gross, Samantha Hall, Caroline Hoffman, Jessica Loving, Amani Massey, Dan Palmer, Cody Smith and Ummey Tabassum.
I was thrilled when Mike Gross agreed to be the first Thronin Podcast interview guest; his reputation precedes him but just in case you have been living under a rock, he, along with his wife Rosa have performed a professional throwing act as ‘One Sharp Marriage’ since 2001 and were recognised by the IKTHOF as ‘Throwing Ambassadors of the Year’ in 2010. However, Mike is also an accomplished competition thrower, a certified Master Thrown Weapons Instructor and is the founder of the OSM Knife & Tomahawk Throwers Academy in Massachusetts. Suffice it to say we had a lot to talk about! In this show I ask Mike about his own origins and growth in the throwing arts before delving into his vision for his academy and his recently published book. We go on to discuss training strategies, the differences in perception between the throwing arts in the States and the UK and what it takes to perform at World Championship standard. This is one not to miss!
