This is an encore presentation of a podcast done in January of 2022 with Dennis Marshall who died this November of 2024 just two days before his 93rd birthday. Listen to yesterday's podcast for DC reading his obit from the Crestone Mt Zen Center and his cuke interview. Dennis Marshall was born in Yorkshire, England 93 years ago. About forty years later he went to a lecture at the City Center of the SFZC and was right away sold on Suzuki and the general communal feeling there. About thirty-three years ago he moved to Crestone, Colorado, and since then had been involved with Richard Baker and Dharma Sangha. The Love Has Won Cult was led by Amy Carlson, who died from alcohol abuse, anorexia, and colloidal silver dosing at the age of only 45 on April 16th, 2021. She'd badly needed medical treatment for two years, but didn't trust "3D hospitals" because she thought she was Mother God, a 5D being. And one of her galactic spiritual advisors, Robin Williams, forbid her from receiving treatment. Mark is a good dude who has lived a good life. You can see it in his face. Not a life without challenge or disappointment, but a life of meaning and purpose and love and kindness. (How could a “good life” ever be free of challenge and disappointment?) I really enjoy hanging out with this guy. Bill first picked up a camera in 1965, at age 20, little knowing that photography would become his profession. Since then camera work has taken him to India, China, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Alaska, Egypt, Ireland, Bhutan, Zambia, Chilean Patagonia and the American West. Bill's images have appeared in magazines, books, calendars, newspapers, catalogs, annual reports. In 1995 Bill moved to the San Luis Valley, took up residence in a travel trailer near Crestone, Colorado and started building a strawbale house.Intro music “Brightside of the Sun,” by Basin and Range. In this episode we bring you Anya Kaats. Anya spent a decade working in various roles within the natural products / wellness industry, before realizing that “wellness” culture was making her sick. In 2016, Anya radically restructured her life to focus on a more holistic approach to health, prioritizing authenticity, purpose, community, somatic, spirituality, and psychological well being. After a lifetime battling digestive and hormonal health issues, a truly holistic approach to “ancestral health” is what finally eliminated them. For several years, Anya hosted a podcast called A Millennial's Guide to Saving the World. Anya currently lives in Crestone, CO with her partner Chris. In 2020, Anya and Chris founded “The Crestone Conglomerate” with the goal of re-creating reciprocal and egalitarian ways of living on the land and with community. Anya also writes for the local paper, The Crestone Eagle, teaches Contact Improvisation, helps to organize the Crestone Energy Fair, and spends her summers volunteering in some of Crestone's most beautiful gardens. A few months ago, someone mentioned that a dude had walked to Crestone from Pueblo — which is a SERIOUS walk over some very rugged mountains — and that he was some kind of Sasquatch expert. I was intrigued, but I have to admit that I assumed the guy was a wild-eyed wayward soul who'd had a bit too much psilocybin and not enough common sense. Then I met Mateo at a party and after chatting with this totally chill, reasonable, obviously smart dude for a while, I realized … wait a minute, THIS is the Squatch dude? So I'd like to introduce you to yet another fascinating Crestonian. Adam's name comes up a lot in Crestone. He and his family have been around for a long time, he runs a local business, currently serves on the Board of Supervisors, is running for County Commissioner, and seems to be admired and respected by pretty much everyone. This is my favorite kind of podcast to bring you, where I'm getting to know the guest at the same time you are. Among lots of other stuff, we talk about:* what it was like to be a quirky, sensitive kid in Texas (not great),* who then moved suddenly to Madrid, Spain (much better);* his complex relationship with his father and masculinity;* the challenges of trying to help kids navigate the world as it is now;* the experience of spending months on horseback, riding through backcountry reservation land. Amy Carlson's metallic blue body was covered in glitter, wrapped in a sleeping bag, and draped in Christmas lights when police found her on the night of April 16, 2021. The 45-year-old leader of the “Love Has Won” cult weighed just 75 pounds; her eyes had been removed. Carlson, known as “Mother God,” proselytized along with her followers by livestreaming around the clock, preaching a QAnon-themed spirituality that they monetized by selling colloidal silver and New Age tchotchkes. When her body was found, it was discovered that her inner circle had prepared for Carlson to be picked up by galactic starships from their Crestone, CO compound. Julian and Matthew discuss HBO's new docu-series, “Love Has Won: The Mother God Cult,” directed by Hannah Olson. They meditate on religious freedom, spiritual tragedy, and the ethics of big-budget cult documentary filmmaking. Rea Beaubien is a medicine woman, ceremonialist, healer, and artist. For more than 20 years she has been a mother, spiritual seeker, and facilitator of ancient rituals in the mountains of Crestone, Colorado. She shares sacred awareness teachings locally and globally, inspiring others to transform. This work brings forth positive and lasting changes contributing to a brighter world. Rea's mission is rekindling our connection to and nurturing the Divine Feminine as was spoken of in prophecies. She believes that in this shared renaissance we are coaxed to return to who we really are. To play, listen, express, believe, get dirty, surrender – and most of all – to feel. As a result of visions and teachings received under lineages of North America, Rea created Heart of Ma, a global community providing sacred plant medicine retreats for more that 20 years. Heart of Ma offers the opportunity to safely transform, ground, and heal. In this episode, Rea boldly shares about the toll the medicine path can take on the health and wellness of facilitators and space holders, her difficult decision to slow down and take a break, and her thoughts about the fast-paced, often reckless psychedelic revolution that is happening now. George Whitten, along with his wife Julie, own Blue Range Ranch (also known as San Juan Ranch) located in the high desert of Colorado's San Luis Valley. Originally pastoralists, George and his family have been ranching on the same land for well over a century, and have been practicing regenerative agriculture and holistic land management since 1893, long before either of those terms even existed. Sam Schmidt, a New York City-area native, joined the ranch in 2020 through an apprentice program, and is now the Assistant Ranch Manager, alongside his partner Noelle. George, Sam and I speak about the rise and fall of industrial agriculture, the challenges of making a living from land stewardship, what it means to bridge the divide between environmentalism and agriculture, and how taking a regenerative and holistic approach to the land also means applying those same principles to our relationships and communities.Find Blue Range Ranch at bluerangeranch.com, on Instagram, and learn more about the ranch's apprenticeship program here. For those local to Crestone and the SLV, check out my article about Blue Range Ranch in the June edition of The Crestone Eagle.Songs featured: “El Jardin” by Hermanos Gutiérrez & “The Universe” by Gregory Alan IsakovSign up for the MGSW book club here.Join myself and Christopher Ryan + Cameron and Melayne Shayne in Montana this summer for the Sex at Dawn retreat, August 20-25. For the past few months I've found myself in a deep internal dialogue exploring the nature of my desires, my relationship to will, and my capacity for action. In the face of difficult choices, divergent interests, or upon reaching a fork in the road, how do we decide which path to take? How do we tell the difference between “trusting the timing” and rest/reflection vs. laziness and avoidance? How do we confront the grief of not being able to “do it all?” In this episode, I explore all of these questions, and share an epiphany I had that's been helping me to move through the complexity of honing in on my desires in order to take authentic action. I also share some big news relative to and my community project in Crestone, CO, and also speak about how I see A Millennial's Guide to Saving the World evolving in the coming months and years.Song featured: “In Praise of Home” by RuraJoin our book club by clicking here.Follow Chris and my community project, The Crestone Conglomerate on Youtube and on InstagramHow to support the show:* Rate, review and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes* Become a paid subscriber on Substack* Visit my website - AnyaKaats.com & Find me on InstagramA Millennial's Guide to Saving the World is a reader and listener-supported project. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit chrisryan.substack.comIn which I talk about the difference between scarcity and value, and how conflating scarcity with value gets us into trouble. Diamonds aren't your best friends. A few words about some of the reasons we're in Crestone and the life-boat we're designing.
You are an electric field — a giant electric field which holds your atoms together, and which uses other electric fields to talk to other bits of yourself. Your unworthiness is tied to the thoughts, feelings, and emotions you have been programmed with in this lifetime and from your ancestors coping mechanisms, especially as it relates to trauma, and these frequencies make up that electric field. Most of us can't align with our dharma or life purpose because somewhere in our electric field we have a program of I'm not worthy, or I have to work hard to make a lot of money, or I have to prostitute my energy and do work I hate to pay the bills. But Dharma or life purpose is deeper than paying bills. So how do we get clear on dharma, take action upon it, and disrupt the pattern of unworthiness blocking us from doing this? Well that's what we are talking about today on this Episode of the Sovereign Woman Movement Podcast. In this episode you will find out: -Why this Month's Autumn Equinox is a Rites of Passage for all of us into a brand new life -How my trip to mystical Crestone, Colorado helped me prepare for this Autumn Equinox -How patterns of unworthiness are programmed in us -What our Energetic Field or Aura has to do with this and how to reconstruct from Unworthiness Patterns -A Kundalini Yoga Meditation to Heal Self Animosity and How to Meditate with it So dive in #sovereignWoman and disrupt the pattern! So I'm just now getting back from mystical and auspicious Crestone, Colorado. My family and I were lead to Crestone very auspiciously 7 years ago and we've been going there at least a couple of times a year for the last 7 years and especially anytime we are seeking an energy and consciousness upgrade. High energy, sacred places on Earth serve a big purpose on our healing journey and Soul's evolution and can also be catalysts for growth and transformation. Being in the stillness of Crestone right before the Spring Equinox allowed me to gain a lot more clarity about my own Soul's journey and clear guidance on next steps. I put together a lot of dots in what has happened in my life and in my work in my group coaching program the Sovereign Woman Academy of teaching women how to holistically self-heal body, mind, and Spirit in order to break intergenerational trauma or ancestral karmic cycles just like I did and just like my clients are doing. During these fast changing times, it is easy to get confused or have misconceptions about holistic healing or any type of approach in alternative medicine, so in this episode of the Sovereign Woman Movement Podcast we debunk those misconceptions. We also look at what holistic healing really is and the tremendous and positive impact of accessing high energy places like Crestone, Colorado on our holistic healing journey. Thanks for tuning in. Thanks for sharing.
