HORROR WITH SIR. STURDY EP 553 NIGHT OF THE ANIMATED DEAD (2021) REVIEW – A REMAKE RESURRECTED What's good, Horror Fam!? Tonight on Horror With Sir. Sturdy, we're digging up the 2021 animated remake of a horror classic—Night of the Animated Dead. This film reimagines George A. Romero's 1968 zombie masterpiece in cartoon form… but does it hit, or should it have stayed buried? Joining me for this graveyard shift are the usual suspects:
Rose Red is the rare mini-series that Stephen King wrote directly for the screen and is essentially his stab at playing in Shirley Jackson's Hill House sandbox. With a wild cast that includes both Nancy Travis and Julian Sands and Melanie Lynskey and a story that feels like a Greatest Stephen King Hits compilation, Rose Red is a fascinating one to look back on.
Mike welcomes film writer Mike Sullivan and critic/podcaster Amy Nicholson (Unspooled) to dig into So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993), Tommy Schlamme's cult romantic comedy where Mike Myers plays it (mostly) straight — no prosthetics, no outlandish characters, just a jittery San Francisco beat poet navigating his fear of commitment. That is, until his charming new love, played by Nancy Travis, starts to look suspiciously like a black widow killer. Expect plenty of riffs on the film's quirky mix of romance, murder mystery, and Myers's rare leading-man turn — plus some love for its killer soundtrack and sharply oddball 90s vibe.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.

What an appropriate title for this podcast. Not only did we talk about the misfire of an important missile during this show, and my general attitude throughout the program misfired on being a consummate professional in talking about things like the Creighton game, but the entire show misfired on actually being posted to this podcast link! So, this is Wednesday's radio show, posted here on Thursday, right after Thursday's show was posted before this one. Make sense ... or did I misfire? (Oh, and Nancy Travis is on this show!)

When faced with a choice between the two career paths, in a striking blow to the Girls In STEM Movement, she chose comedy. In a move to Los Angeles she began working as a comedy writer. Writer Maggie Serota joins to discuss the 1993 comedy 'So I Married An Axe Murderer', a movie that takes inspiration from classic screwball comedies, Hitchcock thrillers, and SNL-style sketch comedy in equal measure. We discuss the rise of the film's star, Mike Myers, a gifted comedic performer who dedicated much of his 90s output to an evolving pantheon characters, often involving elaborate makeup and outlandish vocal affectations. Then, we talk about the film's stunning bullpen of comedy veterans, including Alan Arkin, and the late Phil Hartman and Charles Grodin - all contributing hilarious riffs on their signature characters. Finally, we talk about Myers's career today by way of his most recent work, the dire Netflix series 'The Pentaverate' and why audiences might welcome a career pivot in the vein of other SNL alum Adam Sandler or Bill Hader.Follow Maggie on Twitter.Read & Subscribe to Maggie's Substack. We spoke with Nancy Travis, Tiera Skovbye, Beau Mirchoff, Sara Garcia, Jake Foy, and Tyler Jacob Moore about their latest roles in Hallmark's latest hit drama, 'Ride.' The cast spoke about what it was like landing the job, what fans can expect from their characters, and how fighting for something you love (in this case, a multi-generational ranch) is so important because so many ranchers are being run off. The cast also had fun choosing which characters they would have fun playing other than their own, how much fun they have working together, and of course, which interview room was the "cooler" room. This cast was excellent; they are passionate and excited for fans to see season one. I loved the show's drama and family aspect, and I look forward to hearing about a renewal soon! Snap those fingers and blow out that candle, man, as we immerse ourselves in Mike Myers's personal mythology in Tommy Schlamme's So I Married an Axe Murderer. Is this movie basically a Rosetta Stone for all of Myers's future films? How does a beat poet afford an incredible apartment in San Francisco—unless he's actually the one who is a black widow killer? Are the comedy cameos in this, from Charles Brolin to Steven Wright, the best of all time? Or do the incessant “bits” that it spawned ruin the fun? The only thing we can say is: Let's get pissed!

Warm up that formula and practice your diapering skills as we doo-wop our way into Leonard Nimoy's (YUP) surprise blockbuster Three Men and a Baby. Did every 80s comedy have to involve drug dealers in some bizarre way? With the release of this movie, My Two Dads, and Full House, was 1987 the year of the Daddy fetish? How little plot do you need to hold together a movie that is otherwise nothing but fun montages? And how many rooms does this Manhattan apartment-share have?? It's another certified Robards Classic! This week, the sibs gleefully cover what is now a '90s cult phenom: 1993's 'So I Married an Axe Murderer.' For those sweet babes not around in the '90s, this was Mike Myers before Austin Powers, in a regular guy romantic comedy role. Quotability is at an all time high. And besides a very charming performance by Nancy Travis, there is a murderer's row of amazing cameos: Phil Hartman, Charles Grodin, Steven Wright, Debi Mazar and Alan Arkin, to name a few. In the second and final segment of the show, Sam blind pitches three non-SNL character movies for episode 31.Hosts: Eden Robards, Sam RobardsInstagram: storageroommovieboomTwitter: storageroompodEmail: storageroompod@gmail.com
This week we continue dog month with Fluke staring Samuel L. Jackson, Matthew Modine, Ron Pearlman, and the harbinger of death herself Nancy Travis. Big questions this week regarding the afterlife, if fish have souls, and if the universe shaped like an infinity symbol. Lame if true. Tune in this week for another not-so-kid-friendly dog movie with a healthy twist of existential dread. We miss Bingo.
We have a forth Goblin this week to help us tackle Bogus (the film for kids that weren't allowed to see Matilda due to witchcraft), room mate of the pod David! We discuss what it means to be a good room mate and where to store your wigs in the bathroom, why Nancy Travis is contractually obligated to die in all films, and we have a lot to say about Dr. Surprise. Tune in and we will climb that scary ladder together.
