52. Cult author Will Carver (part 1) joins We'd Like A Word hosts Paul Waters & Stevyn Colgan to discuss the nature of evil, in front of a live audience inside the historic & beautiful Milton's Cottage in Chalfont St Giles, where John Milton dictated the epic poem, Paradise Lost. This event was for a select audience as part of the Chalfont St Giles & Jordans Literary Festival. Being there in person was great - and there was wine - but now you can eavesdrop on a very personal & existential session with searching questions from the audience. (And some "other" questions from Paul & Steve.) Will Carver's prolific output includes Girl 4, The Two, Dead Set & The Killer Inside (all part of the Detective Inspector January David series), and for Orenda Publishers, his current series - Good Samaritans, Nothing Important Happened Today, Hinton Hollow Death Trip (narrated by EVIL itself - or should that be, himself?), The Beresford, Psychopaths Anonymous & The Daves Next Door. Will writes crime fiction but always with a weird twist. Some fans of Will's books - well, Paul specifically - say they make them deeply uneasy, but they can't look away every time Will writes another disturbing and compelling thriller. You should read them to. You can get signed copies from Four Bear Books in Caversham, near Reading. The shop website is https://www.facebook.com/fourbearsbooksuk/about You should also visit Milton's Cottage Museum in Chalfont St Giles. It's the only place still around where John Milton lived & worked. Very atmospheric. Listed building. The beautiful garden is listed too. Friendly & knowledgeable guides too. A good day out in a chocolate box English village - pond, ducks, green, half-timbered houses, v good deli/cafe. The next episode of We'd Like A Word will be about anthologies - how to create them & how to make them more diverse - with authors & editors Vaseem Khan & Ivy Ngeow. Your questions & comments welcome - but email them in quick - to wedlikeaword@gmail.com We'd Like A Word is a podcast & radio show from authors Paul Waters & Stevyn Colgan. We talk with writers, readers, editors, agents, celebrities, talkers, poets, publishers, booksellers, audiobook creators about books - fiction & non-fiction. We go out on various radio & podcast platforms. Our website is http://www.wedlikeaword.com for information on Paul & Steve & our guests. Nothing Important Happened Today II. Too? Also. Something like that. Well, the most important thing to happen to you today is this podcast! (Come on, it’s 2020, let us have it, at least for the length of this episode.) In this episode, you’ll hear wild theories about super soldiers, how they factor into Scully’s birth, our wish for loose ends to be tied, and we ask if there even is an HR in this part of the FBI? It would be SO important to us if you would follow us on our social media! You can find all of our social media links, PLUS our new merch (just in time for the holidays!) at http://linktr.ee/notanotherxfpod
Dear Diary, something important happened today--we started Season Nine! Carolyn and Vanessa are so excited to embark on this journey. We've come a long way, Baby William! In this episode we will take you through the dizzying highs of ethereal postpartum Scully and also guide you through the deepest, most watery lows of Xena, Warrior Mermaid. Thank you for coming along for the ride and we promise to make ALL the tangential pit stops along the way! It would be SO important to us if you would follow us on our social media! You can find all of our social media links, PLUS our new merch (just in time for the holidays!) at http://linktr.ee/notanotherxfpod

Courtney and Alison watched S09E02 of The X-Files " Nothing Important Happened Today Part 2" – and then Alison accidentally deleted the file before they could edit it so here's this instead.
Join Courtney and Alison as they recap the first episode of the FINAL season of The X-Files – S09E01 " Nothing Important Happened Today " – and learn about amazing unsolved mysteries such as Xena's suspect origins, the great Wall of LeBron, and, proving that we are on the very cutting edge of the zeitgeist: CATS.
In this episode Philippa waffles on for far too long before she then starts talking about books! There are 7 books to review, so prepare for lots to choose from! "Impossible Causes" by Julie Mayhew, "A woman is no man" by Etaf Rum, "I will miss you tomorrow" by Heine Bakkeid, "Mr Todd's Reckoning" by Iain Maitland. Then the final three reviewed are: "Salt Lane" by William Shaw, "Nothing Important Happened Today" by Will Carver & finally "The Warlow Experiment" by Alix Nathan. We even squeeze in a listener's question and talk about different publishers. So many books! So little time!
To better inform people who don't even realize that there are things going on in the world which, had they known them, would feel outraged at. To promote and educate progressive ideas, policies and candidates.
As we head towards being back to our regularly scheduled programming, a sever lack of anything to talk about crept up on us this week. With little in the way of news appearing anywhere now the bigger games for this quarter have been released, hosts John Miller and Andrew Brooker chugged along in this episode chatting about a little bit of everything and a whole lot of nothing. A brief chat about the incoming closure of Grainger Games leads the guys into their regular What We've Been Playing section that includes John's wildly differing experiences with Sea of Thieves and Brooker finally finishing up Switch re-release Bayonetta. Join us again next time, but until then why not join us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube.

Petter and Breki are globetrotters extraordinaire, and this week they recount the many experiences they've had in foreign lands. Hint: It's pretty much what the title says. The now infamous bathtub-scene is in the montage that starts in Vlog #40 around 33 minutes in. There comes a time in any man's life where he needs to stop and ask himself if what he's doing is what he wants to be doing. To some, this is a mid-life crisis. To others, it's an every-day occurrence in their lives. To Petter and Breki, it's something that's been especially obvious as their podcast has drifted from good to mediocre to ... well, sometimes entirely uninspiring and uninteresting.
This week, Petter and Breki look back on their birthdays with fond memories. Or, rather, what little memories they have that weren't killed by excessive amounts of red wine and relaxing massages. What they've been doing these past two weeks and what kinds of things they've been thinking about. There's talk about postmodern Twitter bots, Dark Souls, board games, Dark Souls, Pretentious Holy Men on Twitter, the superhero genre being one bad movie away from failure - but still surviving despite all of the bad ones - as well as the state of movie franchises today. There's no denying that one of the biggest names to pop up when it comes to the many mutual influences Breki and Petter have had over the years is David Bowie. Waking up and learning that he had died was a very strange day in both of their lives and today - just over a week later - they sit down together to talk about the man who sold the world and how they both discovered him independently of each other, just a few years before they got to know each other. Doing stories that start with the climax, then flash back, tell what happened to get there: the old narrative style of switching the first few chapters around to make a more interesting story.Sometimes it works GREAT because it throws you right into the middle of things and you have to work your way back to that point… It works very nicely in The Hangover for example!Often it's used very badly- in anime particularly, where they use it for foreshadowing and a tease to try and get you interested in the rest of the story- but anime story structure is so formulaic that all it really does is give you a cheap spoiler. Other times it doesn't work well is when the writer isn't very good so the viewer loses their way in the plot… If the writer is GOOD though you end up with Pulp Fiction. You'll love Gunwallace's theme here- a super funky jazz track for the comic Nothing Important Happened Today. It's that time of the week again; that time when Petters and Brekis from around the world gather to celebrate one of the most inconspicuous of traditions, the recording of the podcast of the Nothing Important Happened Today show. All hushed in reverence and respect, they bring their thoughts and their trials and tribulations to the table, as they recount tales of sorrow and woe, joy and mirth, death and rebirth, and the Swedish tradition of having sex before you start dating somebody.
Breki Tomasson has just moved, and Petter Mårtensson has ... well, nothing major has changed there, all things considered. This week, the gruesome twosome is sitting down to talk about the times they went through some of the bigger changes in their lives; the times that they decided to reinvent themselves or got some kind of new beginning in their lives. It's an episode about the times that they stopped working in order to go back to school, the times they moved to other countries or the times that they decided to get something completely different and new from their lives. Naturally, this being Petter and Breki talking to each other, there's bound to be a bunch of other distractions along the way, including a chat about a guy who is literally Hitler. This week, Petter Mårtensson is exposed to a barrage of thoughts and ideas as Breki Tomasson tries to untangle his issues. Together, they try to combine their understandings of his neuroses, dreams, hopes, ambitions and character flaws into a coherent picture. By the time they're done, they've come to an interesting understanding. Breki needs to unclench his anxious sphincter and give birth to a shit baby. Petter Mårtensson and Breki Tomasson seem stumped for topics on today's episode, and manage to go through a meandering discussion about the 5-year anniversary of CSICON, a bit of its early history, the perennial Wars vs. Trek-debate, Breki's book writing project idea, Crimson Peak, and ... and stuff.
Both Petter Mårtensson and Breki Tomasson have some experience picking heavy things up and putting them down again, even though nobody would believe them if they just looked at the current state of their bodies. But they do have some thoughts on the matter and took the time to sit down and talk about that very topic today. Show notes and links: Magick (Thelema) (en.wikipedia.org). This time around, Petter Mårtensson and Breki Tomasson sit down to remember their lives as lovers, players and thinkers of music. Or not, as the case may be.
