BI 206 Ciara Greene: Memories Are Useful, Not Accurate

In this episode we discuss Ciara's book Memory Lane: The Perfectly Imperfect Ways We Remember, co-authored by her colleague Gillian Murphy. The book is all about how human episodic memory works and why it works the way it does. Contrary to our common assumption, a "good memory" isn't necessarily highly accurate - we don't store memories like files in a filing cabinet. Instead our memories evolved to help us function in the world. That means our memories are flexible, constantly changing, and that forgetting can be beneficial, for example. Regarding how our memories work, we discuss how memories are reconstructed each time we access them, and the role of schemas in organizing our episodic memories within the context of our previous experiences. Because our memories evolved for function and not accuracy, there's a wide range of flexibility in how we process and store memories. We're all susceptible to misinformation, all our memories are affected by our emotional states, and so on. Ciara's research explores many of the ways our memories are shaped by these various conditions, and how we should better understand our own and other's memories. Li Tianyi, who had artificial lenses implanted in her eyes to treat myopia in the winter of 2022, said she is satisfied with the outcome of the surgery so far.2022年冬天,李女士在眼球中植入了人工晶状体来治疗近视,据悉,她对手术迄今为止的结果感到满意。 "In the past, my glasses kept getting in the way when I worked out," the 22-year-old said."They would also fog up with a mask and smudge my makeup. The procedure has erased these hassles in my life, and I do not have dry eyes or other complications." But Li is also keenly aware of the risk of a relapse. "I notice my eyesight getting a bit blurry if I work in front of a computer for long hours," she said. A growing number of young Chinese adults like Li have opted to undergo surgical procedures to correct their vision. This summer, hospitals are registering a spike in the number of such operations. Zhang Qingsong, director of the refractive surgery center at the Wuhan Aier Eye Hospital in Wuhan, Hubei province, said it carried out around 2,000 refractive operations a month in June and July, double the monthly number earlier in the year. "People age 18 to 30 account for 90 percent of operation recipients, including college students, white-collar workers and job applicants looking to apply for specific positions requiring clear vision," he said. "Some have decided to undergo the surgery simply because they want to make their lives easier or improve their appearances."“18至30岁人群占手术人群的90%,大学生、白领和有特殊视力需求的群体居多,”他说,“有些人做手术只是因为他们想让生活更轻松或者改善外表。” Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a prevalent condition in China. Data released by the National Administration of Disease Control and Prevention shows that the overall myopia rate among Chinese children and adolescents was 51.9 percent in 2022. 51.9%。 Surgical treatments for myopia are generally divided into those performed inside the eye and those targeting the cornea. The most popular laser eye surgery uses lasers to cut in and reshape a patient's eye, while the specific type of operation that Li underwent due to her high myopia involves implanting an artificial lens inside the eye. Zhang said myopia operations were first introduced in China in the 1990s, and acceptance of the technology has been growing. "The number of patients seeking the surgery so they can look better and for other personal preferences rather than practical demands — such as to fulfill a job requirement — has been rising," he said. Wei Wenbin, a senior ophthalmologist at Beijing Tongren Hospital, told a recent news conference that laser eye surgeries are recommended for people age 18 and above to ensure stable refraction, but rigorous pre-operation evaluations should be carried out. "A common misunderstanding is that a surgery can cure myopia, but in fact, the procedure can only remove the need for glasses, or apply the refractive function of glasses to the eyeball," he said. "The surgery cannot resolve the structural changes in the eyeball caused by myopia." Wei added that it is necessary to undergo annual examinations to prevent myopia-related complications in the retina after an operation. Zhang, the specialist in Wuhan, said that different types of surgical technologies are suited for patients with different eye conditions, and there is no need to seek more expensive approaches, regardless of their personal situations. "Myopia surgeries have also become more convenient as patients are usually recommended to book an appointment and make preparations such as receiving eye drops three days before the operation," he said, adding that most patients can resume work and normal lives the day after the surgery. Implanting an artificial lensn.ICL(Implantable Contact Lens)晶体植入手术myopian.近视

Subsequently, he completed medical school and neurosurgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania. His clinical interests include functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery, traumatic brain injury, and brain tumors (especially those in eloquent cortex). As a surgeon and a scientist, Dr. Chen's primary focus is the preservation and restoration of brain function. The Chen Laboratory works to "develop novel methods for restoring the function of the brain after it has been damaged by combining aspects of stem cell biology, neural tissue engineering, and neural interface technologies. Prof Chen is the Member of Center for Brain Injury and Repair Institute of Regenerative Medicine Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics Center for Neuroengineering and Therapeutics. Dr Chen & researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have been working on Brain Organoids & have found that human-derived brain organoids can integrate into the visual cortex of rat brains. After three months, the organoids demonstrate electrical responses to visual stimuli. The term “organoid” encompasses 3D cell culture systems that can be derived from stem cells, tumors, tissue explants, stem cells or other progenitor cells. Organoids “self-organize” under specific, controlled conditions, resembling the anatomy, physiology and complexity of organs or other body structures in a dish. https://www.med.upenn.edu/apps/faculty/index.php/g275/p35031https://www.linkedin.com/in/isaac-chen-3051035 Connect & Follow us at: https://in.linkedin.com/in/eddieavil https://in.linkedin.com/company/change-transform-india https://www.facebook.com/changetransformindia/ https://twitter.com/intothechange https://www.instagram.com/changetransformindia/ Listen to the Audio Podcast at: https://anchor.fm/transform-impossible https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/change-i-m-possibleid1497201007?uo=4 https://open.spotify.com/show/56IZXdzH7M0OZUIZDb5mUZ https://www.breaker.audio/change-i-m-possible https://www.google.com/podcasts?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8xMjg4YzRmMC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw Dont Forget to Subscribe www.youtube.com/ctipodcast

During a psychotherapy session with a client, Ross Rosenberg, M.Ed., LCPC, CADC, made a new conceptual discovery, which he refers to as “Reverse Gaslighting.”Reverse Gaslighting occurs when a pathological narcissist selfishly, covertly, and systematically manipulates a person's environment for the purpose of falsely proving the absence of individual, relational, and/or family shortcomings, problems, and psychopathology. Implanting the “nothing is wrong with us or you” or “we are perfectly normal” narrative requires the false representation of mental and relational health when such does not exist. Individual relationship members are strategically shown fabricated evidence indicating positive mental and relational health when such does not exist. When abuse, neglect, deprivation, isolation, and other forms of individual and relational dysfunction cannot be explained away, the gaslighter will attempt to normalize them. Such normalization requires the gaslighter to provide inaccurate statements, explanations, and fabricated “proof” that one's perceptions of problems and concerns are over-exaggerated, overreacted to, and normal among “most people.” Most often, “Reverse Gaslighting” is a result of having two parents, one of whom is an SLD, and the other, a pathological narcissist. The SLD parent raises their child in such a way that “blinds” them from the experience of being raised by a narcissist, but still causes the childhood attachment trauma that is responsible for Self-Love Deficit Disorder (codependency).► Visit Self-Love Recovery Institute:https://www.selfloverecovery.com► Listen to the podcast on all major platforms:https://selfloverecovery.com/pages/podcast► Ross Rosenberg's Links:YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/RossRosenbergFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCodependencyCureInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/rossrosenberg_slriTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/RossRosenberg1TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@rossrosenberg► Ross Rosenberg's BiographyRoss Rosenberg M.Ed., LCPC, CADC is a psychotherapist, educator, expert witness, and celebrated author. What if I told you some people diagnosed with dementia may not have dementia at all? Surprisingly, it's estimated that 5 percent of people institutionalized for dementia actually have Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). NPH looks similar to Parkinson's or forms of dementia such as Alzheimer's, but it's actually treatable. It's caused when normal production of spinal fluid goes awry and builds up in brain ventricles, which cushions and nourishes the brain. This throws off brain pressure and causes neurological and physical symptoms such as imbalanced gait. Senior Services Expert Lori Williams welcomes Gary Chaffee to share his incredible story with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Currently, a 75-year-old volunteer with the Hydrocephalus Association, he started having signs of NPH when he was only in his early 30s. It wasn't until 2001 when he moved to Texas that he received a diagnosis and shunt surgery that helped him return to normalcy - and his “gray life” brightened. Today he feels like an 18-year-old with a renewed sense of purpose and a wealth of education to share with not only seniors, but people at any age who experience similar symptoms. A diagnosis of NPH can be a relief to many individuals and families, as they're able to take treat it with surgery and restore their abilities and health. Topics discussed: Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Dementia misdiagnosis Ventricles Spinal fluid Hydrocephalus vs. dementia or Parkinson's Shunt surgery / replacement Brain surgery Takeaways from this episode: -Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus is a misnomer - it's an abnormal accumulation of spinal fluid in the brain and can affect you at any age, but primarily over age 60. -Implanting a shunt during brain surgery is the main form of treatment for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. The most incredible story ever told man or that could ever be told man is the gospel. You and I read in the morning paper, and we're all excited that someone transplanted a heart. Time magazine refers to it as the “ultimate operation”; take a heart from one who is dead and put it into the body of one who needs one badly. Why, I do not know, but he wants to vegetate beyond his present moment. But nevertheless it's called the “ultimate operation.” Now, may I tell you what the gospel really is in essence: God, the God who created the whole vast universe and sustains it, became man that man may become God. Can you conceive of any greater story in the world? Well, when man hears it, he turns his back upon it. We are told that it is told to the men of the world and they receive it in four different ways (Mat. 13:3-23). The majority completely turn from it as the most incredible and stupid story that ever could be told. It is said, it falls upon the wayside and the birds of the air devoured it. Then there are those who eagerly take it, but they're not prepared to really receive it; and then over night it takes a little root but then comes the sun and scorches it because it had no depth. The sun makes visible the facts of life, the things that you and I call real—and it completely denies the reality of what was heard, and they thought it must have been just an idle dream. Then it falls upon, well, the thorns and the thistles of the way…all the cares of life. They're about paying rent, buying food, clothing, and getting on in this world. And so there must be a moment in time when we will take care of that, but not now; and so all the thorns and the thistles and the cares of the world choke it. Then there are those who have been prepared. They heard it and they struggle to keep it alive. As they struggle to keep it alive, they prepare the ground to receive it. Some bring forth the thirty-fold, sixty-fold, and an hundred-fold. MusicBalance - amaranth covefor a moment - amaranth coveappeased soundscape 11 - August Willhelmssoncrystalymbic - syncopydark turns light - hampus naeseliusstargazed - august willhelmssonotherworld - lama housethe gordian knot - jakob ahlbomwinds amassed - spirits of our dreamsserene story 3 - august willhelmssoncotton dreams  - elm lakesoft rains - huhedquadrants -ookeanbeyond gravity - spirit of our dreamsambiance - johannesburg bornloffindings - augus willhelmssonthe beginning of the end - august willhelmssonsealed letters - august willhelmssonthey came from the sky - august willhelmsson Alternate Universe Reality Activation  get full access to new meditations, new lectures, recordings from the reality con and the 90 day AURA meditation schedulehttps://realityrevolutionlive.com/aura45338118 BUY A COPY OF MY BOOKhttps://www.amazon.com/Reality-Revolution-Mind-Blowing-Movement-Hack/dp/154450618X/ Listen to my book on audible https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Reality-Revolution-Audiobook/B087LV1R5V Prosperity Consciousness - https://youtu.be/kkMvngNKeDQ How to use breathing to change your life https://youtu.be/m4y71lnyV7A The Health Revolution – Becoming  Healthier through the power of your mind https://youtu.be/3UjSt3V8xso The Love Revolution: Using the Law of Attraction to find love… and your soulmate https://youtu.be/3-mhAfe2aO8 Finding Your Purpose - https://youtu.be/XJtZtmlWq9w Transform your health - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo9Ef3Qy_G9aduDHbkPbpKOb All my guided meditations in one place https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo_BfNnb5vLcwouInskcEhqL All my short meditations (you have 10 minutes) - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo-Mc0SiXK8Ef0opJeahwgfM All my episodes about parallel realities - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo-1-dStwX7huyhcxpJPMrWi All My Neville Goddard Videos In One Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo8kBZsJpp3xvkRwhbXuhg0M For all episodes of the Reality Revolution – https://www.therealityrevolution.com Subscribe to my Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOgXHr5S3oF0qetPfqxJfSw #nevillegoddard #audiobooks #imagination #newthought #lawofattraction #totalhumanoptimization

Normand developed drinking issues in his 20s, but didn't follow the recovery route away from alcoholism. In fact, the recovery chip has to be implanted, as it isn't the natural response of most people, who instead recover naturally. Implanting chips into your brain, inter-dimensional travel and quantum computing.  Just a few years ago this would have all seemed like science fiction but in this day and age, we're able to achieve some extraordinary things.  Today I'm joined by tech entrepreneur and investor William Hurley, better known for his open-source community name ‘whurley'.  Whurley knows his stuff about technology, the recent advancements we've been making and what's really possible in the future.  Now I'm far from an intellect when it comes to things like quantum computing and open source software, but whurley dumbs it down for me in a way I can understand.  We talk about the different things technology is enabling us to do, how we got here, and the moral implications involved with where we're heading. We cover sci-fi stuff like interplanetary species, time travel, or whether we are in a simulation and how real our reality is. We also break down Elon Musk and SpaceX and how the Flat Earth movement and other conspiracy theories impact us. An incredibly clever man I'm left with my head spinning about travelling to other planets as some kind of advanced multi-limbed superhuman… “Sometimes as creators, inventors and scientists, we spend so much time wondering if we can do something that we never stop to think if we should.” – whurley Time Stamps: 06:38 – What it's like to succeed during Covid and the guilt that comes with that success. 09:31 – The difficulties with launching a product while promotional events are cancelled. 15:54 – What a quantum computer is and where the term ‘quantum' comes from. 23:43 – How quantum computing affects us in our day to day lives. 25:07 – Elon Musk, the team behind him, and how he's planning on getting to Mars. 27:18 – The value of inter-dimensional travel and the moral issues involved with it. 33:38 – Planting chips in your brain and the beneficial ways that can be used. 37:55 – The future of biohacking and the moral implications of where we're heading. 49:44 – The possibilities of time travel. 58:57 – The importance of open source and why it's so valuable.  Resources:  Strangeworks Chaotic Moon Studios The Day AI Becomes God Quantum Computing For Babies   Texas Real Food Connect with whurley: Twitter LinkedIn Facebook Instagram Connect with Patrick Scott Armstrong: Instagram Facebook Email More From The Lone Star Plate: Matt Mullenweg: Open Source Is THE Future
