It's time again for our now-annual Turkey Month, and we're kicking off a November's worth of big budget turkeys with Cutthroat Island, the pirate movie that plundered Carolco of their last remaining doubloons, and sent Geena Davis' career as a swashbuckler off the side of a boat. CHAPTERS: (00:00:00) - The Nextlander Watchcast Episode 113: Cutthroat Island (1995) (00:00:18) - Intro. (00:02:08) - Our first turkey for November: Cutthroat Island! (00:07:37) - The Renny Harlin factor, and the initial (fairly different) pitch for this movie. (00:12:06) - THEY KILLED CAROLCO! (00:18:15) - The cast we got, and the cast we could have had. (00:23:30) - Listing off some of the myriad curses that befell this production (and some debate about Davis' stunts). (00:32:16) - Despite all the troubles, they pulled this one off at the box office, right?!? (No.) (00:38:49) - Addressing any lingering questions before we get into the movie proper. (00:43:58) - Break! (00:44:24) - We're back, and here's what the hell is happening in this movie. (00:54:21) - The introduction of William Shaw. (00:59:28) - I saved a guy who speaks Latin, what did you ever do? (01:02:26) - One of the few bright spots: the carriage chase. (01:04:41) - These puzzles suck. (01:06:11) - Time to dig up another uncle. (01:12:43) - Gunshot wound? No problem! (01:17:45) - An interminable mutiny before we finally get to Cutthroat Island. (01:25:31) - Oh look, treasure. (01:46:04) - Some talk about our film for next week: Waterworld! (01:51:28) - Outro.
JOSIE LLOYD chats to Paul Burke about MISS BEETON'S MURDER AGENCY, Mrs Beaton, breast cancer, comedy, cosy crime, making drunk promises to run marathons.Miss Beeton's Murder Agency: Alice Beeton never meant to wind up single and childless on the wrong side of fifty. Like her distant relative Mrs Beeton – yes, that Mrs Beeton – she had hoped to have her own spic-and-span household by now. In reality, she lives in an immaculate but dingy basement flat in a rather shabby block in Kensington with Agatha, her fiercely intelligent, if rather over-territorial, corgi-Jack Russell cross. Now Alice runs the Good Household Management Agency, providing discreet domestic staff to extravagant townhouses and sprawling country piles. So when Camille Messent calls in urgent need of a new housekeeper, Miss Beeton sends out new hire Enya. She's rather forward but she does come with impeccable references and is fluent en français. But in the early hours of New Year's Day, Alice is rudely awakened with the news that Enya has been found dead. As the intriguing, if somewhat scruffy, Detective Rigby struggles to drum up an adequate investigation and the wealthy family and their party guests close rank, Miss Beeton takes it upon herself to solve the crime…Josie Lloyd's first novel, It Could Be You, was published in 1997 and since then she has written 15 bestselling novels, (under various pen names), including the number one hit Come Together, which she co-authored with her husband, Emlyn Rees, which was number one for 10 weeks, published in 27 languages and made into a Working Title film. Josie has also written several bestselling parodies with Emlyn, including We're Going on a Bar Hunt, The Very Hungover Caterpillar and The Teenager Who Came to Tea.Recommended: Butter Asako Yazuki, None of This is True Lisa Jewell, Elif Shafak, William Shaw, Julia Crouch. Mentions: Nora Ephron Heartburn, Ian Moore, Emlyn Rees and Mrs Beaton's Book of Household Management.Paul Burke writes for Monocle Magazine, Crime Time, Crime Fiction Lover and the European Literature Network, Punk Noir Magazine (fiction contribution). WILLIAM SHAW chats to Paul about his new novel THE WILD SWIMMERS, music journalism, respecting the arts, CJ Sansom (RIP), Breen & Tozer, Alexandra Cupidi and unbridled wealth. THE WILD SWIMMERS If only Alexandra Cupidi had turned south instead of north, she would have found the dead woman.Instead it is her vulnerable daughter Zoë who stumbles across Mimi Greene's lifeless body on the shoreline. A regular wild swimmer with a group of close friends, it's out of character for Mimi to have been swimming alone, especially in bad weather. DS Cupidi starts to suspect this is more than just an accidental drowning.Meanwhile, her friend and colleague Jill Ferriter receives a mysterious letter from a man who claims to be her father. Stephen Dowles has been in prison for the last twenty years, convicted of two brutal and senseless murders. With Cupidi obsessed by the death of Mimi Greene, Ferriter must lean on Bill South to uncover the facts around Dowles' conviction, revisiting old colleagues and criminals.William Shaw has been shortlisted for the CWA Historical Dagger, longlisted for the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year and nominated for a Barry Award. A regular at festivals, he organises panel talks and CWA events across the south east. Author of crime novels including Birdwatcher and The Trawlerman, gave a fascinating chat about his books, and which naked actress attracted his interest when he was young.
THE STUNNING FOURTH BOOK IN THE DS ALEXANDRA CUPIDI INVESTIGATIONS FROM ONE OF CRIME FICTION'S FINEST WRITERSA DOUBLE MURDERThe naked corpses of Aylmer and Mary Younis are discovered in their home. The only clues are a note written in blood and an eerie report of two spectral figures departing the crime scene. Officer Jill Ferriter is charged with investigating the murders while her colleague Alex Cupidi is on leave, recovering from post-traumatic stress.AN ELABORATE SCAMThe dead couple had made investments in a green reforestry scheme in Guatemala, resulting in the loss of all their savings. What is more disturbing is that Cupidi and Ferriter's disgraced former colleague and friend Bill South is also on the list of investors and the Younis's were not the only losers.AN UNLIKELY KILLERDespite being in counselling and receiving official warnings to stay away from police work Cupidi finds herself dragged into the case and begins to trawl among the secrets and lies that are held in the fishing community of Folkestone. Desperate to exonerate South she finds herself murderously compromised when personal relationships cloud her judgement.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. In this special edition, insights were included from experts working in very different industries: from marketing and journalism to data science and mechanical engineering. As a first selection, we revisited the second episode of How to be the Difference, where Johanna and Paul sat down with Jane Asscher, the founding partner and CEO of 23red, a purpose-driven creative agency that is developing strategies, campaigns, and brands that change behavior for the better. We talk to Erik about what it takes to thrive in the field of data science and why in today's world information is the most valuable commodity. In the third place, we selected clips from a very moving interview Johanna and Paul had with Catalina Escobar, the Founder and President of Juanfe Foundation, a nonprofit organization that is committed to improving the lives of children and adolescents living in extreme poverty in Latin America and tackling one of the core problems that perpetuates poverty in the world: teenage pregnancy. With Juanfe, Catalina managed to lower in 81% the neonatal deaths in Cartagena. Next, we revisited the very exciting career path of William Shaw, the founder and CEO of Ultra Air, a Colombian low-cost airline. William has 26 years of experience in the airline industry and co-founded one of the first low-cost airlines in Latin America: Viva Air. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for June 24, 2021 is: forswear for-SWAIR verb 1 : to make a liar of (oneself) under or as if under oath 2 a : to reject or renounce under oath b : to renounce earnestly 3 : to deny under oath 4 : to swear falsely Examples: "The first instance of oath-taking is common in our everyday lives. Most weddings feature a couple forswearing all others, pledging fidelity to each other as long as they live. Witnesses in a courtroom (or Senate and House hearings) place their hands on a Bible and 'swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.'" — William Shaw, The Pilot (Southern Pines, North Carolina), 6 Mar. 2021 "All jobs, for the most part, within qualifying companies are subsidized. And, other than the limits on executive compensation, there are no restrictions on how companies spend their subsidy payments, including no requirement to forswear layoffs." — Patrick Brethour, The Globe and Mail (Canada), 14 May 2021 Did you know? Forswear (which is also sometimes spelled foreswear) is the modern English equivalent of Old English forswerian. It can suggest denial ("[Thou] would'st forswear thy own hand and seal" — John Arbuthnot, John Bull) or perjury ("Is it the interest of any man … to lie, forswear himself, indulge hatred, seek desperate revenge, or do murder?" — Charles Dickens, American Notes). But in current use, it most often has to do with giving something up, as in "The feuding parties agreed to forswear violence" and "She refused to forswear her principles."
Philippa interviews Danuta Kot about her new book “Someone Who Isn't Me” and reviews “The Birdwatcher” by William Shaw, “Blue Lightning” by Ann Cleeves, “Version Zero” by David Yoon, “Not In My Name” by Michael Coolwood, “Phase Six” by Jim Shepherd and “Don't Touch My Hair” by Emma Dabiri. The course has been set; there is no turning back; prepare your weapons; and summon your courage for the cinematic adventure of a lifetime—Cutthroat Island! The majority of the words above come from the trailer for the epic shipwreck that is Cutthroat Island. Yet they could also serve as a warning. Once you start watching it, there truly is no turning back; and it is a film that lives up to its infamous reputation. Cutthroat Island is a mess from start to finish. From the hammy acting, to the suspect dialogue, to the overabundance of poorly choreographed action and explosions, there is little doubt as to why it once held the Guinness Book of World Records' dubious distinction of being the biggest box office bomb in history. With a production budget of over $98 million, it grossed barely more than $10 million. Adjusted for inflation, it lost upward of $147 million. There was no pirate booty to be found in the Christmas season of 1995. It's loss was so traumatic that it helped bankrupt Carolco, the studio that produced it. Carolco, though, was not the only casualty. Careers were legitimately affected by Cutthroat Island's critical and financial drubbing. Geena Davis, who starred as pirate captain Morgan Adams, worked sparingly for years after; this was also due in part to an acrimonious divorce from the director of this film, Renny Harlin. Her co-star, Matthew Modine as William Shaw, would see his days as a leading man float off into the sunset, a rudderless ship adrift. Oddly enough, Harlin—who had become a commodity because of his work on Cliffhanger and on franchises like Die Hard (he directed Die Harder), as well as A Nightmare on Elm Street (he was at the helm of the abysmal, but successful The Dream Master)—would continue to get semi-prominent gigs. Despite evidence such as this to dispel the notion of his early promise, he'd be tapped to direct several other high profile films over the course of multiple decades—Deep Blue Sea, Driven, 12 Rounds, Skiptrace. Hollywood can be weird. That said, Cutthroat Island did expose his myriad of flaws as a filmmaker. If given the freedom and the money to pursue his wildest desires, he couldn't find a happy medium or produce a competent picture. Style over substance works if the style is actually interesting. Here, it wasn't. Not even remotely. In any event, this movie is a sight to behold. You'll laugh; you'll cry; you'll drink until it all makes some semblance of sense. So sit back, enjoy an aged barrel of Blackbeard's Breakfast from Heavy Seas Brewing, and get ready set sail for turbulent seas. I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Cash, and Chumpzilla are waging pirate war with Uncle Dawg for a fabled trove of plastic treasure! This Week’s Segments: Introduction – We drop anchor on one of cinema's all-time disasters, examining everything from the best line of the film (is there one?) to the over-the-top brilliance of pod favorite Frank Langella. Show Notes: 1. Thoughts On Oxalates? [3:02] Alex says: What is your perspective on oxalates? Is there any merit to what people like Dr William Shaw, Sally Norton, and Elliot Overton say about the evils of oxalates? or can we all keep eating spinach and almonds? Could this be the explanation as to why some people who go full carnivore benefit from eliminating all greens? 2. Living WELL to 100 and Beyond [10:05] Paul says: Robb and Nicki, I am definitely one of the original 6 listeners and credit you many times for changing my life and educating me to the point that I helped other people change their lives. Ok I am 62 in very good shape and have a smoking hot younger wife that I would live to make it to our 50th wedding anniversary, which will make me 107. So the question is what test do I do now to make sure I have the best chance to achieve this goal and hopefully correct if something is wrong now? 3. Eating For Olympic Weightlifting [13:15] Jake says: Robb, Thank you for the podcast its great. I know your very busy but I was wondering how you would suggest approaching a healthy diet for olympic weightlifting? I'm 35, 5ft9in 185lbs and around 18% body fat( this is a rough estimate using ketogains website). I want to compete but not looking to sacrifice my health, and would like to lift into my old age. You mentioned that you competed in powerlifting when you were younger and I thought maybe you would have some insight into the subject. I currently intermittent fast roughly 14hrs everyday. My diet is protein from variety of meats, carbs from lots of fresh veggies, fats from nuts, coconut and olive oil. No sugars unless family holiday. My goal is to lose some body fat but maintain my strength. I tried to go full keto, no carbs, and my strength plummets. Thanks again, sorry for such a long question. 4. Low Carb & Sleep [16:18] Angel says: Hi Robb, Thanks for answering our questions! When I eat low carb, I tend to wake up at 3am and have a hard time falling back asleep. However, if I have some carbs (i.e. a small bowl of rice or a sweet potato) during dinner, I generally sleep through the night and wake up naturally a little after 6am. I usually go to bed around 10pm, and eat dinner around 6pm. The problem is, when I eat carbs during dinner, I gain weight overtime. Eating low carb helps me lose weight. Is there a reason for the interrupted sleep eating low carb? I searched online and some people say it’s due to noradrenaline. I don’t know what that is and I am wondering how i can improve my sleep while eating low carb? Thank you very much for your knowledge! Angel 5. Any Updates To The Paleo Solution? [18:36] Mike says: Going back to your first book - what are the main things you would revise or add - if you ever did a revision? November 8, 2018 at the Boston Athenæum. In the precarious first decades of the Boston Athenæum, no one did more to keep the fledgling institution alive than its first librarian, William Smith Shaw. Slovenly in his appearance and extreme in his politics, Shaw could easily come across as disagreeable to his Boston contemporaries. Yet Shaw was much more than the prickly personality who looks disdainfully down at us from his portrait in the Athenæum Newspaper Room. His character was marked by considerable virtues as well, and it is these virtues that should inspire us today, in the troubled and perplexing twenty-first century. In telling the colorful and tragic story of Shaw's life, we will look behind the portrait to find the glowing strengths that helped preserve the Athenaeum in its infancy, strengths that may help inform the institution's work in its maturity.
This week I met up with writer William Shaw to chat about Delta and the Bannermen and Tooth and Claw. Will also told me about an article he's written recently for Doctor Who Magazine. Doctor Bryan Walsh is back with us today, discussing the diagnostic benefits of a simple blood chemistry. He says the results of common and inexpensive lab panels can be mined for meaningful health information, potentially saving patients a lot of time and money on testing – that is, if you know what these blood markers actually mean (and your average doctor probably doesn’t). Fortunately for us, Bryan knows and loves to teach. In this podcast, he shares a bit about his own journey - what led him to study these basic blood markers, and what now inspires him to teach others. Dr. William Shaw, the founder of Great Plains Labs, teaches us what chemicals are most toxic, their effects on your health and what you can do to reduce toxin levels in your body.Anyone with a long term gut infection should get a check for oxalates, yeast and chemicals. I provide oxalate testing, chemical profile testing and interpretation with an Organic Acids Test and GPL TOX from Great Plains Lab.If youre having health issues or problems detoxing, ridding your body of oxalates can solve a lot of health problems. You also have to rid your body of oxalates before you have any hopes of getting rid of gut or systemic candida infections.About Dr. William ShawDr. William Shaw is an American chemist, autism researcher and the founder of the Great Plains Laboratory. Dr. Shaw has a bachelors degree in biochemistry from the University of Georgia and a PhD from the Medical University of South Carolina, in biochemistry. After obtaining his PhD, Dr. Shaw spent six years working at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where he was a supervisory research chemist and the chief of the radioimmunoassay laboratory. His laboratory, the Great Plains Laboratory, which he founded in 1996, specializes in metabolic and nutritional testing, particularly as it pertains to autism.
At long last, there's a new podcast. I had a good talk with William Shaw, CEO of VivaColombia. The airline has been growing quickly and it's opening its Peru operation next month.
Remember to visit LearnTrueHealth.com/contest to enter before it's over! http://learntruehealth.com/contest ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Food Sensitivity Testing : Finding the Right Laboratory Food sensitivity testing is not something that any laboratory can do. Accurate results are achieved when food sensitivity testing procedures are up-to-date. I recently went to Bastyr University, the Naturopathic school here just outside of Seattle, Washington. They're holding a continuing education conference and my Naturopathic friends here told me that I should show up and see if I could interview some interesting people and I did. I also got to interview two of the labs. First of all, I found their services are fascinating. Most noteworthy is their food sensitivity testing. Great Plains Laboratory I met Katlyn from Great Plains Laboratory. It is the only lab in the United States that does glyphosate testing at a very affordable rate. According to Katlyn, they are based in Kansas and the lab has been around since 1996. The lab director of Great Plains Laboratory is Dr. William Shaw. Dr. Shaw is board certified in the fields of clinical chemistry and toxicology by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Glyphosate testing is also his passion. This testing can be performed with a simple urine test. They also do other treatments to help get glyphosate out of your body. Why Get Glyphosate Testing? The Great Plains Laboratory website states that medical reports show many chronic health problems are caused by glyphosate exposure. Consequestly, it can enter the body by direct absorption through the skin. In addition to that, it can also enter the body by eating foods treated with glyphosate or drinking water contaminated with glyphosate. "Glyphosate is a ticking time bomb in your body. There are too many chronic conditions. We see high co-relations with autism and different cancers as well," says Katlyn. Hence, Katlyn says it's important to measure where you are so that you can take the protocols to get it out of your body. Tips On How To Lower Glyphosate Levels Switch to organic foods. Make sure you're doing reverse osmosis for water to help get some of those glyphosate out. There are also supplements to help excrete this from your body. Katlyn also says infrared sauna therapy is a way to detoxify it. It helps to sweat it out. One thing people need to remember is that when they are sweating out these toxins, they need to wipe it off with a towel frequently so it doesn't re-absorb back into their bodies. She also suggests that we should take control of our own health. In a addition to that, Katlyn stresses the importance of food sensitivity testing especially for glyphosate. This is so that we you can have a starting point to go where you need to go. And I agree. Consequently, what is measured is manageable. If we don't know what our levels are, then how can we get back on the road to good health. Common Symptoms Of Overexposure To Toxins Headaches Chronic fatigue Gut issues Many patients of Great Plains Laboratory come to them on their last limb. They usually can't figure out what's going on. Hence, the lab looks at these areas that are not typically evaluated. So when they do find it, the patient goes through the treatment and symptoms have improved significantly. Meridian Valley Lab I also came across the Meridian Valley Lab who does several kinds of food sensitivity testing aside from glyphosate testing. According to their website, Harvard University and University of Michigan graduate, Dr. Jonathan Wright is Meridian Valley Lab's medical director. Dr. Wright is an expert in research and application of natural treatments for healthy aging and illness. Furthermore, he also was the first to develop and introduce the use of comprehensive patterns of bio-identical hormones. This includes estrogens, progesterone, DHEA, and testosterone. The lab is a world leader in Allergy and Hormone Testing. In addition to food sensitivity testing, they also specialize in Comprehensive 24-Hour Urine Hormone and Metabolite Testing. Furthermore, established in 1976, Meridian Valley was the first lab in the USA to offer this test to help doctors use Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy safely and effectively. In the area of food sensitivity testing, they are the first lab in the United States to do the ELISA method, which is now the most used method of labs in the country. ELISA Method ELISA stands for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. It is a type of food sensitivity testing that detects and measures antibodies in your blood. This food sensitivity test can be used to determine if you have antibodies related to certain infectious conditions. Antibodies are proteins that your body produces in response to harmful substances called antigens. The Meridien Valley Lab can test up to 190 foods for allergies and food sensitivity. While other labs only average around 150 foods. This podcast is the second part of a series. In the first part, Dr. Shaw and I talked about how to measure metabolism using organic acids. My initial test showed two major problems: yeast and clostridia overgrowth. It’s been about six months since I took probiotics and Raintree Formulas Amazon antifungals for two months and the retest shows some but not complete improvement. The primary focus of this interview is the new Great Plains test for organic (nonmetal) environmental toxicity, something that I think may be a problem for the people that work with us. I won’t know for sure until we collect some more data, as always I like to test myself before recommending others do the same, and my result turned out to be “one of the cleanest Dr. Shaw has ever seen.” The possible exception is a mild elevation of 2-Hydroxyisobutyric and other metabolites that indicate exposure to petrochemicals I suspect from riding my bike on the road. Three years ago I went through round after round of blood testing until eventually I realised that the doctor was following a procedure laid out in a flow chart. Heck, he even showed me the flow chart. Two months and thousands of dollars of insurance deductibles later I was no closer to understanding the underlying cause of my fatigue, insomnia, brain fog and other symptoms. My doctor seemed somewhat willing to run any blood test I wanted but he held the results very close to his chest. Everything was normal, and the Google searches I made in an attempt to understand better my results yielded nothing useful. It’s not that sodium and potassium on a blood chemistry don’t mean anything, they do, it’s that you won’t ever be able to figure it out without some help. When I finally admitted defeat and looked outside the network of doctors willing to accept the insurance that was costing me a fortune and getting me nowhere fast, I found someone who wanted to run a urinary organic acids test. What is an organic acid? William Shaw, Ph.D., is board certified in the fields of clinical chemistry and toxicology by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Before he founded The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc., he worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr Shaw describes organic acids as “the stuff of metabolism”. Organic acids are surrogate markers that give valuable clues about what’s going on inside your body. Finally, I had a window on what was really going on. I don’t think anyone expected me to look at the result as a patient, but that’s what I did, and I was excited because now my searches started yielding useful information. Take for example vanillylmandelic, a breakdown product of epinephrine and norepinephrine, also known as adrenaline. Low levels of vanillylmandelic indicate little activity of a hormone that acts increases blood pressure, respiration rate, heart rate, increases glucose, and dilates the pupils, all for the purpose of enabling you to quickly and safely get out of a potentially life-threatening situation. Sounds a lot like adrenal fatigue, huh? But there probably wasn’t anything wrong with adrenal glands. In addition to low vanillylmandelic, I had (and have) high levels of HPHPA (3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-3-hydroxypropionic acid), a metabolite created by certain Clostridia species of bacteria (C. sporogenes, C. caloritolerans, C. botulinum & others). HPHPA looks enough like dopamine to downregulate the activity of the enzyme dopamine-beta-hydroxylase, but not enough to have the other biological effects, leading to a derangement of neurotransmitter balance. Your gut can mess with your brain! The fix? A high end probiotic containing 50-100 billion CFU of Lactobacillus rhamnosus. I’ve honed in just one example of problems that can be revealed and fixed easily using organic acids. Besides offering the most complete and accurate evaluation of gut yeast and bacteria, the test also provides information on important nutritional markers, glutathione status, oxalate metabolism, and much more. Download my full result By all means, order an organic acids test for yourself, and I will help you understand the results but know that this test is a single tool in our chest that includes other tests and diet and lifestyle modification. Here’s the outline of this interview with Dr William Shaw, Ph.D. 0:00:16 Dr William Shaw, Ph.D is the founder of Great Plains lab. 0:00:23 Formerly a clinical chemist and toxicologist at the CDC. 0:00:46 Using mass spectrometry on urine would allow Dr. Shaw to measure virtually anything in metabolism. 0:01:33 Dr Shaw has been highly motivated from the beginning. 0:02:00 It's rare for someone to do an organic acids test and not find something significant. 0:02:59 Organic acids are the stuff of metabolism. 0:03:50 The metabolites from bacteria and other microorganisms have a profound impact on human health. 0:04:49 The Great Plains OAT measures the complex balance of man and microbiome. 0:05:09 The wrong microorganisms can harm mental health. 0:05:34 Once you have the results, you can manipulate them. 0:05:47 The OAT takes out the guess work. 0:06:29 Why are GPs not running the OAT? 0:06:50 The OAT is complex. 0:07:24 A one day seminar is usually enough to cover the basics. 0:07:37 The insurance has become very tightfisted. 0:08:13 Even if you have to pay out of pocket, the test is not that expensive. 0:09:08 The OAT covers all systems of the body. 0:09:49 Mass spectrometry is the truth machine. 0:10:08 Mark Newman on my podcast. 0:11:04 The Khan Academy organic chemistry. 0:11:19 Metabolic Fitness Pro. 0:11:57 Dr Shaw has taught the grandson of Krebs. 0:12:26 My OAT result. 0:12:51 The GP has a lot more markers than the Genova equivalent. 0:13:10 Whenever you buy an OAT, you're buying some of Dr Shaw's experience. 0:13:56 The reference ranges come from healthy volunteers. 0:14:25 There's a statistical analysis, the ranges are based on the vast majority. 0:14:50 Only healthy individuals are included. 0:15:21 The Genova test use the conjugate base name. 0:16:10 Nobody is writing junk about organic acids, that makes research much easier. 0:16:44 The GP OAT has the most comprehensive coverage of the gut microbiome. 0:17:08 Some of the metabolites produced can affects neurotransmitters. 0:17:43 Marker #16 HPHPA. 0:18:15 HPHPA is very similar to dopamine. 0:18:23 This interferes with the conversion of dopamine to epinephrine and norepinephrine. 0:18:26 Most people have an equal amount of dopamine and epinephrine and norepinephrine 0:18:52 The clostridia inhibit dopamine beta dehydrogenase. 0:19:49 Markers #33 and #34. 0:20:12 High levels of dopamine are a problem. 0:20:29 Dopamine causes oxidative stress and can kill neurons. 0:21:01 10x my result have been seen in autism and schizophrenia. 0:21:32 The oxidative metabolite is called dopachrome. 0:22:29 Elevated HPHPA may start with GI symptoms. 0:22:42 Later this could become depression or obsessive compulsive behaviour. 0:23:20 The peripheral nervous system uses norepinephrine. 0:24:27 Norepinephrine is what you need at the start of a race. 0:25:18 OAT is almost like cheating. 0:26:10 The clostridial species are usually easily treatable with probiotics with lactobacillus. 0:27:19 L. rhamnosus. 0:27:42 Cresol has the same effect on dopamine but is toxic in its own right and can be smelled on the breath. 0:28:44 Cresol is made by C. diff. 0:29:04 14,000 people die of C. diff infection each year. 0:29:39 Cresol is common in anorexia. 0:30:36 We've tested for the A&B toxins in stool. 0:32:00 I've always had a yeast problem. 0:32:18 D-Arabinitol is different from D-Arabinose. 0:33:06 I have an overgrowth of Candida that can easily be treated. 0:33:22 Coconut oil or caprylic acid. 0:33:31 Nystatin. 0:33:43 Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia. 0:34:00 Sugar craving! 0:34:39 Evidence yeast can metabolize ketones. 0:35:11 Dr Shaw thinks that the ketones will not be fuelling the yeast. 0:35:27 Markers #47-49 carnitine deficiency. 0:36:13 Carnitine shuttles fatty acids into the mitochondria. 0:37:05 Fats are oxidized with less energy yield in the peroxisomes. 0:37:56 The GP test has 9 yeast markers, I'm used to seeing one. 0:38:08 Candida can metabolize isocitrate into oxalate. 0:38:44 Dr Shaw discovered that this week! 0:38:59 The research will take time, a year or longer before anything is in print. 0:39:20 Marker #21. 0:39:57 Candida metabolize isocitrate into oxalate and that's the connection between the yeast and kidney stones. Oxalates are also capable of crystallizing anywhere in the urinary tract, blood vessels, the blood brain barrier, the thyroid, liver and muscles. 0:40:44 Oxalates may turn out to be more important than cholesterol. 0:42:10 High oxalate foods, spinach and soy, nuts and berries. 0:42:29 300mg Calcium and 150mg magnesium citrate can be protective. 0:43:02 Great Plains have just started DNA testing and they look at oxalate metabolism SNPs. 0:44:33 Vitamin B6 deficiency causes oxalate production. 0:45:09 People with high oxalates should supplement with 100 mg per of B6. 0:45:53 Dr Shaw needs to write the manual. 0:46:54 Narrowing down a list of possibilities to a list of probabilities. 0:47:23 Order a Great Plains OAT. 0:47:45 There are currently 75 markers, more soon. 0:48:36 Great Plains are working on a test for jet fuel toxicity. 0:49:19 The Dreamliner has separate air system. 0:50:05 The Great Plains webinar archive. 0:50:59 The low cholesterol problem.
