Welcome, to Dark Minisode: Boleskine HouseOn today's Halloween extra-minisode, we take a peek in to a place of occult legend. Arguments on what exactly caused what exists there is hotly debated, has it ‘always' been there? Some primordial force? Or was it the combined spirits of an allegedly killed congregation of parishioners, unable to escape the burning church which the house was built upon? Or, the most prevalent theory, did the “Wickedest Man In The World” – Aleister Crowley, play his hand in the bringing of the apparent evil that sits in this land?Stay safe,Kevin.Joining our Patreon team not only gives you early Ad-Free access to all of our episodes, it can also give you access to the Patreon only podcast, Dark Bites. Christy Alexander Hallberg, the author of a rock music-inspired novel called “Searching for Jimmy Page,” joins Staci to chat about her book, as well as her podcast, “Rock is Lit.” Christy gives fascinating details on traveling to the UK to research her book—she visited all the sacred grounds, from Headley Grange to Boleskine House—and how the Led Zeppelin song “Four Sticks” inspired her. She also talks about interviewing John Fogerty and recommends some of her favorite rock music novels (that are not “Daisy Jones and the Six”!).
With owners like Aleister Crowley and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, and bizarre history of fires while allegedly being built atop a cemetery, the Boleskine House in the Scottish Highlands has quite the reputation. Did Aleister Crowley's occultist rituals leave behind evil remnants that continue to haunt the space, and leave him with the moniker "The Beast of Boleskine"? Did a local wizard in the 17th century really raise bodies of the dead, giving a local minister the not-so-fun job of having to put reanimated corpses back in their graves on that land?

Formed in 1984 in Oslo, Norway, the band has played a pivotal role in shaping the black metal genre and its associated subculture. Mayhem's music is characterized by its aggressive, raw, and dark sound, often featuring dissonant guitar riffs, frenzied drumming, and visceral vocals. The band's early lineup included iconic figures like Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, who was not only the founder and guitarist but also a central figure in the early Norwegian black metal scene, and Per "Dead" Ohlin, known for his disturbing stage presence and tragic suicide in 1991. Dead's suicide deeply impacted the band and contributed to their notorious reputation. Mayhem's notoriety also stems from various incidents, including the infamous burning of historic Norwegian stave churches and the murder of Euronymous by former member Varg "Count Grishnackh" Vikernes in 1993. These events garnered international attention and added to the band's aura of darkness and controversy. Despite these tumultuous occurrences, Mayhem's music and legacy have endured. Albums like "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" (1994) are considered classics of the black metal genre, influencing countless bands that followed. The band's imagery often draws from occult and macabre themes, adding to their mystique. Throughout their career, Mayhem has undergone numerous lineup changes and musical evolutions, all while maintaining a connection to their black metal roots. Their impact on extreme metal and underground music culture remains significant, making them a cornerstone of the Norwegian black metal scene and a symbol of its uncompromising and controversial spirit. Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin was a British rock band formed in 1968 that became one of the most influential and iconic bands in the history of rock music. The band consisted of four members: Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass/keyboard), and John Bonham (drums). Led Zeppelin is known for their innovative and powerful blend of blues, rock, folk, and psychedelia, which laid the groundwork for hard rock and heavy metal genres. There has been speculation and controversy surrounding Led Zeppelin's alleged involvement with the occult, particularly regarding guitarist Jimmy Page's interest in esoteric and mystical subjects. Page was known for his fascination with symbols, magic, and ancient mythology. He collected occult books, artworks, and artifacts, and he was also influenced by the teachings of famous occultist Aleister Crowley. Page purchased Crowley's former home, Boleskine House, and the band's record label, Swan Song Records, featured an image of an angel playing a trumpet from a design by Crowley. One of the most enduring aspects of the occult rumors is the alleged backward masking or "backmasking" in Led Zeppelin's music. Backmasking involves the insertion of hidden messages when a song is played in reverse. Some fans and critics claimed to have found messages related to the occult, Satanism, or even drug use when playing certain Led Zeppelin songs backward. The most famous example is the song "Stairway to Heaven," where a specific part of the lyrics is said to reveal hidden messages when reversed. However, the band members have consistently denied intentional involvement in such practices, attributing any perceived messages to coincidence or the imagination of listeners. It's important to note that while Led Zeppelin's members had an interest in mystical and symbolic subjects, and their imagery occasionally reflected these interests, the extent of any actual involvement with the occult is debatable. Much of the occult-related speculation surrounding the band is based on interpretations and theories that have been amplified over the years. Led Zeppelin's legacy primarily lies in their groundbreaking music and their impact on rock and roll. They released numerous iconic albums, including their self-titled debut, "Led Zeppelin II," "Led Zeppelin IV," and "Physical Graffiti," which featured hits like "Stairway to Heaven," "Whole Lotta Love," and "Black Dog." Their live performances were legendary for their energy and improvisation, contributing to their status as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Blink 182: Blink-182 is an American rock band that gained significant popularity in the 1990s and early 2000s. The band is known for their energetic pop-punk sound and catchy melodies. Blink-182 was formed in 1992 in Poway, California, and its original lineup consisted of Mark Hoppus (bass and vocals), Tom DeLonge (guitar and vocals), and Scott Raynor (drums). Travis Barker later replaced Raynor on drums. Tom DeLonge is one of the founding members of Blink-182 and played a crucial role in the band's success. He was known for his distinctive singing style and witty, often humorous, lyrics. DeLonge's guitar playing and vocal contributions helped shape the band's sound, which combined punk rock sensibilities with pop hooks. In addition to his work with Blink-182, Tom DeLonge developed an interest in various side projects and ventures. One of his notable endeavors outside of music was his fascination with UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) and extraterrestrial life. DeLonge's interest in UFOs eventually led him to launch the To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science (TTSA) in 2017. The TTSA is an organization that aims to explore and research various topics related to UFOs, advanced technology, and potential interactions with non-human intelligence. Through the TTSA, DeLonge has advocated for increased transparency and government disclosure of information regarding UFO sightings and encounters. He has stated that his interest in UFOs was inspired by personal experiences and a desire to uncover the truth behind these phenomena. It's important to note that the field of UFO research can be controversial and is often met with skepticism from the scientific community. Tom DeLonge's involvement with UFO research has brought attention to the topic and sparked discussions about the possibility of extraterrestrial life and advanced technologies beyond our current understanding. His efforts have also prompted conversations about the need for rigorous scientific investigation in this field.

As Crowley and I delved into the unseen realms, a unique rapport sparked between us, creating a mystical energy that was palpable, even across the veil of reality. Our conversation was a voyage through Crowley's life, wandering from the cobblestone streets of his early days to the surreal beauty of Stockholm, and all the way to the enchanting confines of Boleskine House. We delved deep into the wisdom of 'The Book of the Law', discussed the enigma of Aiwass and the otherworldly entity he called LAM, and explored the mystical labyrinth of The Secret Chiefs and his mind-shattering experience of 'The Vision and the Voice'.This episode is not just a tour of Crowley's life and work; it's a deep dive into the profound abyss of his mind. We also peeked into the Amalantrah Workings, learnt about his Scarlet Women, and dared to venture into the infamous Abbey of Thelema. This is your chance to get closer than ever before to the Great Beast, to hear his voice resonating from the land of the shadows. So, dear seekers, prepare yourselves for a spellbinding encounter with Aleister Crowley. Loch Ness is best known as the home of a cryptid--the mysterious, serpentine creature called the Loch Ness Monster. We didn't see Nessie during our visit to Scotland in 2019, but we did see a site that played an important role in the spread of occult teachings in the 20th century: Boleskine House, which overlooks Loch Ness, was the home of occultist Aleister Crowley a little over a century ago. Crowley, who called himself the Great Beast 666, was so influential that his image appears three times on the album cover for the Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.'Sharon explains why the late 19th and early 20th centuries were a transitional period for the world in terms of spirituality and the supernatural, which is why she set her series of supernatural thrillers The Redwing Saga right in the middle of this era. Watch for Crowley, Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin, and the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to appear in future entries of The Redwing Saga.Join us in Israel! Rejected Religion Spotlight with Keith Ready, Chairman of the Boleskine House FoundationBoleskine House: Heritage, History, and EsotericismINTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTSKeith starts our discussion by giving a short background and history of Boleskine House and the surrounding area. We then move to how the house is linked to the area of esotericism/occultism through one of its more famous (infamous?) owners, Aleister Crowley. Keith talks about why Crowley bought the house, and the changes that were made to the house in order to perform the arduous magical ritual to summon one's Holy Guardian Angel, known as the Abramelin Ritual. We then shift gears to discuss the events that led to the creation of the Foundation and the goals/aims of the Foundation, both locally and internationally. In closing, we discuss the various options available to those who are interested in contributing to the restoration of Boleskine House. This week I am going across the pond, all the way to Scotland, to the shores of Loch Ness, known best for the cryptid that lives in it's depth. The Loch Ness Monster, or Nessie to her friends, has actually been spotted twice this last week. Seems appropriate to talk about the most notorious home in the Highlands, Boleskine House. Boleskine House is probably most infamous because Aleister Crowley once owned the home where he practiced one of his most famous rituals where he attempted to summon the 12 Kings of Hell. The House was later owned by Led Zepplin's guitarist Jimmy Page. But the house has always had a dark history. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/MyHauntedLife/support

CW: brief mention of suicide, animal death Welcome to Part Two of the Loch Ness Monster! We asked a few questions this episode, including: Is Nessie a shark? Short answer, no. But how sure of that are we? Maybe it's just a supernatural entity summoned by Aleister Crowley at the Boleskine House. It could be an exploding log, an elephant that got left behind, or even a ghost of a dinosaur! Then we ask the very important and relevant question: Is Weed Gay? Sam has the answers. (Short answer, yes) We discussed substance abuse in marginalized communities and why there's not many older gay people. For the end of Pride Month, we urge everyone to do some research on what the AIDS epidemic did to the queer community. Happy Pride once again from us, and a reminder to be your most authentic self year-round. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yourbrainonweird/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/yourbrainonweird/support
RockerMike and Rob discuss The roots of the son of Sam from Samuel Untermyer to Aleister Crowley. All New twist on the legend of the son of Sam. Samuel J. Untermyer (March 6, 1858 – March 16, 1940, although some sources cite March 2, 1858,[1] and even others, June 6, 1858[2]) was a prominent American lawyer and civic leader. He is also remembered for bequeathing his Yonkers, New York estate, now known as Untermyer Park, to the people of New York State. Aleister Crowley (/ˈæleɪstər ˈkroʊli/; born Edward Alexander Crowley; 12 October 1875 – 1 December 1947) was an English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, painter, novelist, and mountaineer. He founded the religion of Thelema, identifying himself as the prophet entrusted with guiding humanity into the Æon of Horus in the early 20th century. A prolific writer, he published widely over the course of his life. Some biographers allege that here he was recruited into a British intelligence agency, further suggesting that he remained a spy throughout his life. In 1898, he joined the esoteric Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, where he was trained in ceremonial magic by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers and Allan Bennett. Moving to Boleskine House by Loch Ness in Scotland, he went mountaineering in Mexico with Oscar Eckenstein, before studying Hindu and Buddhist practices in India. He married Rose Edith Kelly and in 1904 they honeymooned in Cairo, Egypt, where Crowley claimed to have been contacted by a supernatural entity named Aiwass, who provided him with The Book of the Law, a sacred text that served as the basis for Thelema. Announcing the start of the Æon of Horus, The Book declared that its followers should "Do what thou wilt" and seek to align themselves with their True Will through the practice of magick.

A great show for you today as Karl reviews the book The Led Zeppelin Curse by Lance Gilbert exploring Jimmy Page and his involvement with the occult and especially his ownership of the Boleskine House manor on the shores of Loch Ness previously owned by the occultist Alister Crowley. Did Jimmy Page's dabbling in the dark arts bring doom down on the band? Did a curse placed on Jimmy Page by an occult film director cause his downfall? What is the real story of Boleskine House and it's history? (It's burned down twice). Plus wizards, a fatal church fire, and more!

UNEXPLAINED MYSTERIES with bestselling author and researcher Steph Young
Boleskine House on the banks of Loch Ness in the highlands of Scotland, is best known for its association with occultist Aleister Crowley. Aleister Crowley was known as a master of the Dark Arts and he studied ‘The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage.’ He specifically found the Manor House of Boleskine to be the perfect place to conduct this dangerous ritual. Located on the shores of the home of the Loch Ness Monster, Crowley purchased this ancient hunting lodge called Boleskine. It was an isolated, brooding and deeply malevolent house, and in this house, worrying supernatural phenomenon would occur, to the great detriment and even deaths of those close to it, as we will now discover. Crowley studied the Book ‘The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage.’ It is a very old European Kabbalistic Grimoire, an ancient book of magic that claims to describe a method to make contact with ‘Your Holy Guardian Angel.’ The ancient summoning ceremony requires long and intense participation, in seclusion. It was a very dangerous ritual – for it would invoke Angels and Spirits “good or bad.” Crowley ‘raised the demons’ in the lodge at Boleskine and discovered them to be uncontrollable. A workman employed to renovate the buildings attacked Crowley and had to be locked in the cellar. Crowley absent-mindedly’ (although we could perhaps contest this) scribbled some incantation on the Butcher’s bill and the poor man promptly chopped through his own femoral artery and died. People began to take the old hill paths rather than risk offending the inhabitant of Boleskine. More death & disaster would follow… The Unexplained Deaths at Boleskine Tales of Mystery Unexplained Podcast with author Steph Young The post The Sinister Unexplained Deaths at Boleskine appeared first on Tales of Mystery Unexplained.

On this episode we discuss the Boleskine House. This manor sits on the south-east side of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands and was once owned by satanist, Aleister Crowley and legendary guitarist for Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page. The Boleskine House was built on top of a 10th century church that burnt to the ground killing all the congregants inside. Plus, it’s said that Aleister Crowley performed rituals that summoned the 12 Kings and Dukes of Hell. Many locals blame the house’s unlucky history on evil spirits left behind. So grab a cold one, sit back and join us as we discuss this very strange place. #paranormal #mrcrowley #kingsofhell #demons #satanism #weird #ledzeppelin #lochness

In 1970, Jimmy Page, guitarist and founding member of Led Zeppelin, purchased the isolated Boleskine House in Scotland (by the Loch Ness), a manor previously owned by the infamous occultist, Aleister Crowley. Page had become obsessed with all things Crowley, and had already begun purchasing various Crowley-related items – what first piqued his interest in this is unclear, and how deeply he believed in the power of magick and his involvement therein also remain uncertain; however, we do know that he had a fascination with this dark topic, and weaved these ideas into his music and the band’s image. So, was it all a big marketing ploy? Did they really perform rituals on stage? Is there a difference between a “real” ritual and a “fake” one? What is the true power of music and performance? Where do we draw the line between acting and reality? Did Jimmy Page pull a Robert Johnson-style stunt and sell his soul to the devil in return for fame and success? Most importantly, though, how real is any of this so-called magick, if any of it? Can rituals, dark intentions, and made-up symbols truly have any effect on us and our reality? Lance Gilbert, author of, “The Led Zeppelin Curse: Jimmy Page and the Haunted Boleskine House,” is here on West of The Rockies to enlighten us a little about the link between Led Zeppelin and the world of magick and rituals, through his thorough research, as well as personal experiences. In last week’s episode, The Spaces that Linger, we journeyed to the grounds of Boleskine House on the banks of Loch Ness in the highlands of Scotland. Although the house has long been the subject of dark intrigue, it is best known for its association with author and occultist Aleister Crowley who made a failed attempt to conjure his Guardian Angel at the property. Four years later, in Cairo, Crowley claimed to have finally make contact with his Guardian Angel, it was an event that would change his life forever and one that has established Crowley in legend far beyond many of his peers.
