It's Friday, April 25th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Nigerian Muslims have killed 170 Christians during Lent and Easter Nigerian Muslims killed 170 Christians during the Lenten season and on Easter Sunday in Nigeria's Middle Belt region, reports International Christian Concern. In Benue State, 72 Christians were confirmed dead following a series of deadly attacks by suspected Fulani Muslim militants between April 18 and April 20. They struck multiple villages in Ukum and Logo Counties during the Holy Weekend, turning what should have been a time of solemn reflection and worship into a scene of terror. Governor Hyacinth Alia, who visited the affected areas, described the massacre as “a calculated and strategic attack on innocent Christian farmers.” He also said, “These were peaceful people observing their Holy Weekend.  The scale and timing of the violence is heartbreaking. We cannot continue like this.” Please pray Amos 5:24 -- that “God's justice would roll on like a river.” Massive Russian strike on Ukraine's capital On Thursday night, Russia attacked Kyiv, Ukraine with an hours-long barrage of missiles and drones, killing at least eight people and injuring more than 70 in its deadliest assault on the Ukrainian capital since last July, reports CBS News. The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia fired 66 ballistic and cruise missiles, four plane-launched air-to-surface missiles, and 145 Shahed and decoy drones at Kyiv and four other regions of Ukraine. On Truth Social, President Donald Trump wrote, "I am not happy with the Russian strikes on Kyiv. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5,000 soldiers a week are dying. Let's get the Peace Deal DONE!" TRUMP: “We're putting a lot of pressure on Russia, and Russia knows that, and some people that are close to it know or he wouldn't be talking right now.” In response to Russia's aggressive strikes in Western Ukraine, NATO has heightened its alert level, placing fighter jets in the "highest state of readiness," reports The Express. Former Brazilian president in ICU Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's health condition has worsened following bowel surgery nearly two weeks ago, his doctors said Thursday, reports MSN.com. The medical team said the former president “experienced a clinical decline, elevated blood pressure and worsening liver lab test results." Bolsonaro underwent a 12-hour surgery on April 13 to remove intestinal adhesions and reconstruct the abdominal wall after the assassination attempt by stabbing in the abdomen during a campaign rally in September 2018. Democrat Senator Dick Durbin, a pro-abort, will not seek re-election Democrat Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois made an announcement on Wednesday, DURBIN: “There comes a point in your career when the torch must be passed, and I've reached that point. I will not be seeking re election to this United States Senate seat.” To his shame, Senator Durbin, age 80, has consistently voted to eliminate or prevent protections for the unborn and for children born alive after failed abortions. In addition, Senator Durbin has voted to use hard-earned tax dollars to pay for abortion, including abortion travel expenses. And he has worked to allow radical abortion ideology to be inserted into every facet of the United States Government. Illinois July 4th parade shooter sentenced to life in prison On Thursday, Robert Crimo III, the gunman who killed seven people and injured dozens in a mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, during a July 4th parade in 2022, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, reports ABC News. Judge Victoria Rossetti sentenced Crimo, age 24, to seven consecutive life sentences along with 50 years in prison for each person injured, Judge Rosetti said, "This court hopes this sentence brings a sense of justice and an end to the continued horror." However, the judge ignored God's just standard articulated in Genesis 9:6 which says, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God has God made mankind." Max Lucado got a tattoo Max Lucado, the Christian bestselling writer and pastor of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, took to social media to announce he got a tattoo, reports MyChristianDaily.com. Located on his forearm, he chose the word “Tetelestai” which is Greek for “It is finished!” That is what Jesus uttered from the cross when He had paid our sin debt, according to John 19:30. Lucado said, “I'm celebrating the golden anniversary of God's great grace in my life. 50 years ago this spring, grace found me. My testimony is interwoven with my favorite word in the Bible. On the cross, Christ proclaimed,  in Greek, “Tetelestai!” Among the meanings of this word is, ‘paid in full'.” He added, “Not everyone likes the idea of a 70-year-old pastor getting a tattoo. That's ok. I didn't do it for people, I did it to say thank you to Jesus who paid a debt I could not pay.” However, Leviticus 19:28 says, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.” How “In God We Trust” became American motto And finally, on April 22, 1864, the United States informally adopted the motto "In God We Trust."  Conceived during the Civil War, Union supporters wanted to emphasize their attachment to God and to boost morale. The fourth stanza of the U.S. national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner", adopted from the 1814 poem "The Defense of Fort McHenry", contains the line: "And this be our motto—'In God is our trust.'" “In God We Trust” was officially adopted by Congress in 1956, replacing the defacto motto of “E Pluribus Unum” which is Latin for “Out of Many, One.” Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, April 25th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Subscribe for free by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. This week on Real Talk with Rachael, I'm speaking with Max Lucado. Max is known for combining poetic storytelling and homespun humor with the heart of a pastor. His trade books all begin as sermon series at Oak Hills Church, and his sermons all start with Max asking himself this question: “What can I say on Sunday that will still matter on Monday?” He's been dubbed “America's Pastor” by Christianity Today, “The Best Preacher in America” by Reader's Digest, and the “Ted Lasso of Pastors” by the Dallas Morning News. Max Lucado has penned more than 40 works of adult nonfiction, standing alongside dozens and dozens of bestselling children's books, gift books, Bible studies, commentaries, and collections. His books have been published in 56 languages worldwide and regularly appear on bestseller lists, including The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, and USA Today. Key Points from Our Conversation: Biblical teachings are meant to prepare, not scare. Focus on preparation, maintaining faith, and trusting God's guidance rather than being overwhelmed by fear. Rather than fearing the end times or personal endings, view them as beginnings of something greater. This shift in perspective can bring peace and reduce anxiety about aging or the future. In moments of fear or uncertainty about the future, trust in God's character and the promise of eternal life by focusing on faith and spiritual growth rather than dwelling on fears. The concept of the rapture is meant to be comforting, offering hope and healing. Rather than focusing on fears of being left behind, we should see it as a moment of divine reunion and restoration. The rapture is described as the next major event on God's timeline, where believers will be taken up to avoid the chaos of the tribulation. This encourages believers to live in readiness, keeping faith and trust in God's plan. The Antichrist will emerge after the rapture, charming people and leading them during a time of chaos. The tribulation is a seven-year period of great suffering following the rapture. During this time, Satan will empower the Antichrist, but there will also be a Jewish revival led by 144,000 evangelists. This calls for believers to be prepared for difficult times while holding onto hope. Believers should test the teachings they receive, especially regarding end-times prophecy, to ensure they align with Scripture. If something doesn't feel right or biblical, it's okay to set it aside and trust that God will reveal truth in His timing. Upon death, believers enter paradise, a place of healing and peace, which is like the front porch of heaven. This encourages Christians not to fear death but to view it as a transition to eternal rest and joy. After the tribulation, Christ will return to reign on earth for a thousand years (the Millennium), followed by a final judgment. Believers will not face this judgment because their sins have been forgiven, reinforcing the importance of faith in Christ. H - Hang in there: Life's troubles are temporary compared to the eternal glory ahead. O - Overcome pessimism: Fight cynicism, especially with age, and embrace optimism. P - Pray expectantly: Focus prayers not just on personal needs but with the bold hope for Christ's return and greater things. E - Explore eternity: Keep the perspective that this life is temporary, and greater joy and fulfillment are promised in the next. Max Lucado is a pastor, speaker, and best-selling author who, in his own words, “writes books for people who don't read books.” He serves the people of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, and his message is for the hurting, the guilty, the lonely, and the discouraged: God loves you; let him. Max's books have sold more than 145 million copies in over 50 languages worldwide. He published On the Anvil, his first trade book, in 1985. His 46th trade book, What Happens Next, will release summer of 2024. Max's books regularly appear on bestseller lists, including The New York Times. He is the recipient of many book awards and received the 2021 ECPA Pinnacle Award for his outstanding contribution to the publishing industry. God Never Gives Up on You received an EDPA gold medallion award in 2024. In What Happens Next, Max explores four big ideas that will provide a solid foundation for understanding God's plans and will remind us that we are headed to a far better place than where we started. He explains that • we were made to reign with Christ;• God has made and will keep his promises;• heaven has a timeline; and• a golden era, the millennium, awaits God's children. In a world filled with political tension, personal trials, and international turbulence, we find ourselves drawn to exploring what happens next on heaven's timeline. Whether readers find themselves in the "I can't wait," "I'm almost ready," or "I'm not sure about all of this" camp, they will be encouraged to ponder God's plans and promises for the future. In Max's signature encouraging style, he reminds us, "It's all about hope. It's all about Him." maxlucado.com @maxlucado christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys

One of my favorite faith leaders, Max Lucado, is on the show today chatting with me about his latest book, What Happens Next: A Traveler's Guide Through the End of This Age, which comes out on August 13. Today's show is a conversation about faith, and about the end times—but it's anything but doom and gloom and frightening and scary. It's quite the opposite, actually—I've never felt more peace about what will happen to me when it's my time, and I've also never felt more peace about those I love that have already gone home. Max writes in What Happens Next that “God tells us what to expect not to scare us, but to prepare us” and reassures us that it's all happening right on schedule, writing “Be assured, God is at work. His plans are proceeding at the right pace, in the right places, and according to His will.” In this conversation and in this book, I learned more about paradise, and left feeling so filled with hope of what is to come. I have listened to Max's voice for so long, as I am a listener of his “Encouraging Word” podcast, and it was such a thrill to have Max speaking directly to me. Max is a bestselling author and minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, and Max has written almost 100 books—100 books!—and regularly appears on the New York Times bestseller list. He was named “America's Pastor” by Christianity Today and “The Best Preacher in America” by Reader's Digest; he has appeared on programs like NBC Nightly News and Larry King Live, in the pages of USA Today, and has even been a featured speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast. His voice is so, so comforting to me, and, as the Olympics wrap up this weekend, don't miss what Max says about our loved ones that have gone before us cheering us on as we run our race, like spectators in an Olympic stadium. I hope you will get as much richness and goodness out of this conversation as I most certainly did.   What Happens Next: A Traveler's Guide Through the End of This Age by Max Lucado

Natasha But first, the leadership at Gateway Church continues its shakeup following revelations that its founding pastor Robert Morris abused a minor in the 1980s. Warren: Seven weeks after Robert Morris resigned from Gateway Church after Cindy Clemishire publicly claimed he abused her when she was 12 years old, Gateway has announced that Morris' son, James Morris, is stepping away from the church. James Morris was slated to take over church leadership after his father's impending retirement in 2025. But after Clemishire's claims went public, Robert Morris admitted “moral failure" with a “young lady” before resigning as the Texas megachurch's lead pastor. Weeks later, James Morris and three other elders announced they would temporarily step down to allow room for a third-party investigation. But last week, in a special announcement to the congregation, Gateway elder Tra Willbanks announced that James Morris and his wife, Bridgette Morris, had decided to permanently relinquish their positions at Gateway.  Natasha:  How did the congregation take that?  Warren: Church attendees gave them a standing ovation. Then Willbanks said Gateway elders support James and Bridgette Morris' desire to establish a church in the future. I should mention that James and Bridgette Morris are not the only ones to have left in the fallout of Robert Morris' resignation. According to the leadership pages on its website, Gateway has made additional changes to its staff and elder board. It removed former-felon-turned-Prison Ministry Campus Pastor Stephen Wilson after Wilson's past sex charges from 2002 involving a minor became public. Natasha: Who is going to minister as the church moves forward? Warren: Willbanks informed congregants that Max Lucado, a popular author and teaching minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, and Swedish pastor Joakim Lundqvist, will be filling leadership roles at the church. Lucado will become the interim teaching pastor, preaching at Gateway about twice a month. Lundqvist will share preaching duties with Lucado and take on a pa...

Let The King Descend: Introduction

Sermons – Oak Hills Church

The church, from the very beginning, was designed to be a community of "Unlikes," a community of "Differents." There is a palpable tension in the New Testament around the inclusion of the Gentiles in the early church. Christianity was born out of the Jewish faith, and there came points along the way where there was pressure to let Gentiles be part of it. But God's plan—from the very beginning—was for Jewish and Gentile Christians to worship together, and do life together, and sort out the tensions and disagreements together, in the shadow of the cross and in the shadow of an abundant communion table. Now, the dislike and hatred between these two groups cannot be overstated. Let me put it this way: If the Jew-Gentile tension was a great Dane, the Democrat-Republican tension is a toy poodle. It doesn't compare. God's plan was to pull them together as one people united under King Jesus to witness to a chaotic world how powerful and good He is. The church is supposed to be a society of different people who are seeking first the Kingdom of God, and navigating everything—including political chaos—in a way that is in sharp contrast to how it's done everywhere else. So we're talking about politics because we, Oak Hills Church, have a marvelous opportunity to demonstrate who Jesus really is, and sort out the political tensions and disagreements in the shadow of the cross and in the shadow of an abundant communion table.

Bonjour! Stephanie here. You know how sometimes we love to have Christmas in July? Or, in this case, maybe in September? Today was such a special day for me. I just had the most delightful conversation with Max Lucado about the power of honesty and the grace of God. Here is what Max has to tell you: “Could you use a fresh reminder of God's grace? Do you need to be told, maybe for the first time, God never gives up on you? If so, join Stephanie and me for a delightful conversation about God's grace, about the beautiful city of Paris, about life in a world where forgiveness is abundant. Join us, please, on Gospel Spice.” And, yes, we also did talk about Paris, about good food and all sorts of other fun things. And I'm honestly still processing the richness of our conversation. I cannot wait to share it with you. We're going to talk about the dangers of manipulation, and the hope that honesty brings into our lives. You're going to find yourself probably agreeing with us on the unmatched, though often misunderstood power of grace in Christ. We're laughing and we're almost crying together from sheer gratitude over God's goodness for us. And I'm sure you can relate. Have you ever wondered if you've had one too many stumbles for God to use someone like you? Or, have you asked if you could benefit from an encounter with God's unending, unbending, unswerving love and freedom? That is what Max talked about with me today—through the lens of Jacob's life. And if your answer is yes, like Jacob, then Max invites you to see how God's grace transformed Jacob's life. Now, I really wish I couldn't relate to Jacob as much as I do because he's not the perfect hero by any means. If anything, he's quite the anti-hero. He's a manipulative cheat, and he doesn't understand grace until God literally smacks him with it, disabling his hip in the process. And so Max Lucado and I talked about that – and we invite you to join the conversation right now! MORE ABOUT “GOD NEVER GIVES UP ON YOU.” Ever wonder if you've had one too many stumbles for God to use someone like you? Could you benefit from an encounter with God's unending, unbending, unswerving love and devotion? If your answer is yes, it's time for you to see how God's grace transformed Jacob's life. And if you feel undeserving of God's grace, this book will serve as a refresher course on God's perfect plan to use imperfect people to do great things. God Never Gives Up on You is for the strugglers among us and the fumbler within us. For those of us who are part saint, part scoundrel; we mean well, but we don't always do well. We have breakthroughs and breakdowns, often in the same hour. We need no reminder of our failures, but we could always use a refresher course on God's perfect plan to use imperfect people to do great things. But where can we find examples of God's steadfast grace? No one is more suited to help assure you of God's grace than Jacob. He was less a prodigy and more a prodigal. Strong on savvy. Weak on conscience. Jacob took advantage of his famished brother and pulled the wool over the eyes of his dying father, yet God never turned his back on Jacob. And he won't turn his back on you. If you are ready to start counting on God's grace and believe he never gives up on you, this book is for you. Jacob's story invites us to believe in a God who sticks beside the unworthy and underachievers and leads us safely home. If God can use Jacob to further his kingdom, he can use us too. Buy the book HERE. MORE ABOUT MAX LUCADO Max Lucado is a pastor, speaker, and best-selling author who, in his own words, “writes books for people who don't read books.” He serves the people of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, and his message is for the hurting, the guilty, the lonely, and the discouraged: God loves you; let him. As a writer, Max is known for combining poetic storytelling and homespun humor with the heart of a pastor. All of his trade books began as sermon series at Oak Hills Church, and his sermons all begin with Max asking himself this question: “What can I say on Sunday that will still matter on Monday?” He's been dubbed “America's Pastor” by Christianity Today, and “The Best Preacher in America” by Reader's Digest. Max's books have sold more than 145 million copies in over 50 languages worldwide. He published On the Anvil, his first trade book, in 1985. His 44th trade book, Help Is Here, was released in 2022. Max's books regularly appear on bestseller lists, including The New York Times. His writing has also been featured in Bible studies, Bible commentaries, songs, greeting cards, and even plush toys. He is the recipient of the 2021 ECPA Pinnacle Award for his outstanding contribution to the publishing industry. Max's love for everyday people began during his childhood in the small town of Andrews, Texas. His father was an oilfield mechanic, his mother was a nurse, and Max spent a lot of his time either running from or running after his brother, Dee. Max grew rebellious in his teenage years, and after one specific drunken night, he began to wonder if there was more to life than parties and chasing girls. He now believes that if Jesus hadn't found him and changed his heart, alcoholism would have been in his future. After high school, Max attended Abilene Christian University and left with two degrees and a heart for following Jesus and helping others learn about him, too. He moved to Miami, Florida, and took a position as an associate pastor at a small church. This is where Max started writing about Jesus for the first time in the church's monthly newsletter, and it's where he developed his passion for people and ministry. Florida was also where Max met his wife, Denalyn. Together, they lived first in Miami and then spent several years in Rio de Janeiro, helping plant churches. The newsletters Max wrote to family and friends while in Rio, along with the newsletters he wrote at his church in Miami, eventually formed the manuscript of his first book, On the Anvil. Max and Denalyn now live in San Antonio, Texas. They have three grown daughters, three sons-in-law, and two grandchildren. The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:7-8 NKJV “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” John 6:63 ESV “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:16-18 NKJV “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26 NKJV “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13-14 NKJV “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. Did you know that, in the Bible, Jesus said it would be "better for us" for Him to leave earth so that we can receive the Holy Spirit? It's true! It's no secret that I've experienced some challenges in my life over the last 10 years—my marriage went through a very dark season, I battled breast cancer, one of our children has severe mental health challenges, the ministry I led for 24 years closed its doors, and my father, who I was very close with, passed away. I can't imagine going through all that without God leading, guiding, and comforting me through the person of the Holy Spirit. As I have helped and counseled others through their own difficult circumstances, it's become evident to me that not everyone understands the work of the Holy Spirit. So I am welcoming a very special guest on today's episode to help us better understand who the Holy Spirit is.Max Lucado is a best-selling, inspirational author with more than 145 million copies of his books sold. I have a question for you, friend. Do you ever feel like you're drowning in questions you can't answer and problems you can't solve? Today on the show, I welcome back pastor and author Max Lucado for a conversation about how we can learn to lean into the life-saving strength of the Holy Spirit. In this conversation, Max and I speak candidly about who the Spirit is, how he can empower us to be more joyful, and the ways we can overcome anything when we draw closer to God. Max encourages us that while the chaos of our lives often feels like too much to take on by ourselves, there is no more need to feel as if we are walking this path alone. There's also no more carrying weight we were not intended to bear. We can rest easy knowing that help Is here.  Trust me when I say this is another conversation you don't want to miss! Max Lucado is a pastor, speaker, and bestselling author who, in his own words, “writes books for people who don't read books.” He serves the people of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, and his message is for the hurting, the guilty, the lonely, and the discouraged: God loves you; let him. Listen in to learn more about: How Max has found strength and purpose through understanding the Holy Spirit. The ways the Holy Spirit can impact our daily fears and anxieties, not just milestone moments in our lives.. Why God gave us an advocate in the Holy Spirit and how we can use Him as an everyday guide. Favorite quotes: ~Jesus described the Holy Spirit as our helper and our counselor and that's when it dawned on me that that's who has been helping me lately and that opened my mind with a deep appreciation and a better understanding of the Holy Spirit. ~Any voice I hear has to submit to scripture. ~The Spirit is always going to be kinder to you than you are to yourself. ~The Holy Spirit is the seal of the saint. He seals us for eternity which means that though I may not know much about what's going to happen, one thing that I don't have to question is where I will spend eternity.  ~The Holy Spirit is our advocate. He knows exactly how to pray and he takes the groans of our heart and turns them into prayers worthy of heaven. In this episode I answered this question: You seem as if you always have it all together. Do you ever get stressed out and can't think? How do you stop doing that? His 43rd trade book, You Were Made for This Moment: Courage for Today and Hope for Tomorrow, was released on September 28, 2021. Max and Denalyn now live in San Antonio, Texas. They have three grown daughters, two sons-in-law, and two grandchildren. SCRIPTURE: (NKJV unless noted) “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:7-8 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” John 6:63 (ESV) “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:16-18 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.  He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13-14 “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26 BOOKS BY MAX LUCADO: Help Is Here Anxious For Nothing Traveling Light You Are Special   LINKS: Max Lucado   MOMS IN PRAYER New to Moms in Prayer? Friend, you are in the right place today! Max Lucado joins me for a conversation full of hope and encouragement, and I am so excited to share it with you. Max gives us an update on his recent health crisis, what his youth was like growing up in West Texas, and his new book, 3:16: The Numbers of Hope.  Over the last several years, we've all been through so much. There is so much division, a lot of which is steeped in a “me first” mentality and anti-God philosophy. Max brings an encouraging word from one of the most famous verses in the Bible, John 3:16, and how God can love us no matter what if we seek Him. Max and I also discuss what we think Heaven and Hell will be like, as well as the idea if someone can “out-sin” God's love and forgiveness. And he shares an exciting new online study that kicks off next month. Listen in to learn more about:  Max's conversion story and what it was like for him to come back home to the church.  Heaven's policy for who gets in. How he decided that an entire book on John 3:16 was the next book to write.  Favorite quotes: 1) This whole promise that is found in John 3:16 has been a treasure to me. I clung on that verse, in fact in the book I call it a life vest, cos I have clung to that throughout my life. For me, personally, it is that verse that summarizes the gospel, that expresses our hope so well, so brilliantly simple yet so deeply profound.  2) I think we forgot that the whole purpose of being here is to say Yes or No to God's invitation to come and spend forever with Him in a restored garden of Eden. 3) I have a sinful inclination within me, but I am chosen by God, I have been made special, I am indwelt by His Holy Spirit and I am being prepared for Heaven. All these ideas that give me strength and joy I would have missed out on had I not been willing to put my trust in the ability for God to forgive me. 4) Studying John 3:16 increased my longing for heaven and increased my horror of hell.   In this episode I answer this question: How do I convince myself or others that the business I'm building is worth it? We just returned from a bus tour, visiting with friends from Tulsa to Charlotte. One consistent theme I heard from hundreds of conversations was about finding hope again after nearly two years of what our world has gone through. In the words of my friend, Max, “Don't measure the height of the mountain. Ponder the power of the one who made it. Don't tell God how big your storm is. Tell the storm how big your God is. Your problem is not that your problem is so big, but that your view of God is too small.” Listen in for more of his wise words in this week's episode. Like they're missing out on a different life, a life that others seem to experience. That it should've all just worked out by now, but it hasn't. Today on The Proverbs 31 Ministries Podcast, we're joined by Max Lucado, a bestselling author of multiple books and pastor of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. In her excellent book Walking on Water, the author Madeleine L'Engle wrote, "Jesus was not a theologian. He was God who told stories.” Storytelling was not only a major focus of Jesus' ministry, it's also a signifigant part of our calling as artists and creatives. Today's guest helps us expand our vision as creative storytellers as we talk about music, imagination, invention, worship, and writing. This is one of those interviews that will expand your mind and leave you thinking for days. I'm honored to bring you this conversation with Manuel Luz. He is a songwriter, author, inventor, arts advocate, and creative arts pastor. He has served with Oak Hills Church in Folsom, California for over 25 years, which is an eternity in creative arts ministry. Manuel's new book, Honest Worship: From False Self to True Praise, addresses the critical intersections between spiritual formation and worship. Manuel's published book, Imagine That: Discovering Your Unique Role as a Christian Artist, is a practical and personal theology of the arts. I highly recommend both of them. Manuel is also the inventor of the patented musical instrument, the WalkaBout™, which was wildly received at the world-renowned NAMM Show recently. In our conversation, we explore several themes from his two books, such as humility, imagination, storytelling, and honest worship. We also dive into the behind-the-scenes process of inventing, manufacturing, and marketing the Walkabout, which is a new kind of percussion instrument. As as drummer myself, this was incredibly interesting! Finally, you'll learn practical tips about writing from Manuel's own creative process.
