In this season, we dive into the question of how academics and practitioners can come together at a time in which democracy and rights are under attack in many places. What can we learn from those working across these spaces on doing this well? In this third episode we have a very inspiring guest that brings a unique perspective on these issues and "refuses to box herself in". Marina Slhessarenko Barreto is a political scientist and writer affiliated with the Law and Democracy cluster at CEBRAP, one of Brazil's largest research centers and a PhD student funded by the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung. Born into a Ukrainian family with a legacy of pro-democracy activism, it may not be a surprise that she ended up writing a book called The Path of Autocracy, which dives into the challenges that Brazilian democracy faces, ánd proposes ways out of the ongoing autocratic cycle across the globe. Marina is a regular contributor to media, including on geopolitical matters that are so high on the agenda today.  We talk about the lessons from Brazil but also: Why is she so keen on bridging these different worlds and build networks of solidarity - especially as women in academia? As democracy and civic space are under attack in many places across the globe we explore what solidarity means when basic rights are quickly eroded. De overstap naar elektrisch rijden stagneert. Steeds meer bestuurders overwegen bij een volgende aanschaf weer een brandstofauto, mede door het aflopen van subsidies en de versnelling van belastingmaatregelen door het kabinet-Schoof. Vanaf 2026 wordt de mrb-korting op EV's verlaagd naar 25 procent en in 2030 betalen EV-rijders het volledige tarief. Hierdoor kan een emissievrije auto duurder worden dan een benzineauto. Daarnaast hanteren laadpaalexploitanten verschillende tarieven, inclusief blokkeer- en kleeftarieven. Dit moet de doorstroming verbeteren, maar er ontstaat ook een trend om auto's langer te laten laden ter ontlasting van het stroomnet. MKB Brandstof biedt duidelijkheid met vaste kWh-tarieven voor regulier en snelladen. Ook biedt men eigen laadpalen aan, zodat ondernemers voordelig thuis kunnen laden. De markt blijft in beweging en de komende jaren zullen de keuzes rond elektrisch rijden steeds scherper worden. Ron Lemmens sprak met Martijn van Paassen van MKB Brandstof. Ze spraken over de stagnering van de overstap naar EV door de media en over berijders die nu elektrisch rijden, terug willen naar een brandstofauto bij hun volgende aanschaf. In deze aflevering heb ik het voorrecht om voormalig veldrijdster Sanne van Paassen te interviewen. Samen duiken we o.a. in: - haar indrukwekkende carrière als topsporter - de uitdagingen die ze heeft overwonnen - hoe haar leven een andere wending nam toen haar lichaam haar vertelde dat ze zo niet verder kon. Wie zich machtig voelt gaat zich al snel anders gedragen. Het is inmiddels een bekend verhaal van de afgelopen tijd: meer en meer machtige mannen worden onthuld als bullybazen die structureel de schreef over zijn gegaan. Mannen waarvan niemand het had verwacht. Mannen die van veraf buitengewoon charismatisch en aantrekkelijk leken. Maar van dichtbij toch echt machtsmisbruikers bleken. Voor De Groene van deze week analyseerde Daphne van Paassen het systeem dat dit soort bullybazen voortbrengt. Mensen aan de top zijn minder afhankelijk van anderen, wat al snel voor minder empathie zorgt. Net zo goed als mannen zijn ook vrouwen gevoelig voor de corrumperende invloed van macht. Mensen in machtsposities vertonen relatief vaak narcistische en manipulatieve karaktertrekken. Hoe komt het toch dat dit soort mensen telkens weer aan de top terechtkomen? Journalist Daphne van Paassen onderzocht waarom in de studentenwereld zoveel seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag voorkomt. De ene na de andere onthulling van structureel seksueel overschrijdend gedrag wordt door journalisten aan het licht gebracht. In januari dit jaar werd het door BOOS: This is The Voice pijnlijk duidelijk hoe ook in het Nederlandse medialandschap machtsmisbruik plaatsvindt. Het zette Daphne van Paassen en Khadra, Nudrat en Jules, alle drie student journalistiek, aan het denken: hoe staat dit eigenlijk binnen de journalistiek zelf? Stagiaires blijken de lichtmatrozen van de redactie. Je bent nieuw, jong, onervaren en bovenal afhankelijk van de opdrachten die je krijgt om een portfolio mee op te kunnen bouwen. Het geeft stagiaires een kwetsbare positie. Waarom lopen zij meer risico dan gewone werknemers? En hoe gaan de studenten hier zelf mee om?
