Our Previous episodes have all been from the early solid-state era. The last 70's and early 80's was where the industry went though some of its largest shifts, we call that ‘disruption' now-a-days. The exit of electro-mechanical pinball and the entrance of solid-state was a watershed moment in the hobby. Some companies excelled in the new market and some fell almost immediately. Gottlieb well… they became zombies, just refusing to die and walking on and on and on… hanging in there… Somehow… Today we're going to review their final years of Gottlieb in the System 3 era. Sing Along tear down started - and that playfield is really rough. I located a different used playfield that should clean up ok. Very excited to rebuild this game. Robo-Frenzy wiring continues, albeit slowly. I speak about some repairs, including Shoot-A-Line and a Dixieland that just would not stay fixed, ending it with a Williams Skylab. Parade is another unique game in the Bally bingo pantheon: the Extra Lines feature allows you two extra rows of repeated numbers to try to put together a winner. Advancing odds, up to quadruple replays awarded for a winner, magic squares and extra balls. There are no spotted numbers on this game, but the Ballyhole returns to award first extra ball. Bingo playfields are not all created equal. I have a bingo playfield swap about 90% complete, and note some differences between solid state bingo playfields and their Bally counterparts.
Here's what I do for any new game, strip it down, clean it and wax it. Tools used vary based on the dirt-level of any game that comes in. Games with more dirt will require more abrasive tools to clean. Cleaning should happen at a minimum of when you start seeing dirt, or when you change your rubbers/balls.
You've got your ball arch, posts, and plastics removed - now it's time to remove your pops/bumpers, flippers, slings and other mechanisms!
