You're probably familiar with building assessments and forensic engineering, but what's the essential role they play in long-lasting infrastructure? In this episode, Stanley Stoll of Knott Laboratory, LLC joins the podcast for an in-depth discussion on identifying and preventing structural failures, how preventative is “too” preventative, the problem of water management, and a new take on what it means to be innovative. Stanley Stoll is CEO of Knott Laboratory, LLC. He was a combat engineer and SAPPER in the U.S. Army. He attended the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY and graduated with both a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Masters of Engineering Degree. At Knott Laboratory, he leads a team of forensic engineers who investigate infrastructural failures throughout the Western US. Todd Takes Proactive Building Maintenance: Take the time to learn and implement best practices in building maintenance, ensuring a proactive approach to analyzing the structure. Stay vigilant for any areas of concern, as early detection and action can prevent costly and dangerous issues down the line. Building Trust and Credibility: Establishing trust and credibility is essential before people will listen and act on your insights. When you identify a problem and have already built trust, the conversation becomes much smoother, leading to quicker and more effective resolutions. Treat Maintenance Like Construction: Stanley emphasizes the importance of treating property maintenance with the same level of care, attention, and critical eye as the building process itself. This mindset ensures that maintenance is not an afterthought but a crucial part of preserving the building's integrity. Thanks for listening! This story starts when I turned 18 years old, it was 2002, I was riding a Honda - CB400 Super 4, mid-length hair, at College doing Automotive Engineering, and Dyslexia was not something I talked about. At this point in my life career advisors would push university on you. But I WAS DONE! I poured everything I had into my College course. And this is where I took my life in a Direction I didn't think I would (or could). I started working as a mechanic servicing Trucks for Volo and as time ticked by I lost interest and I wanted more for myself. I saw an amazing job opportunity to test engines to destruction, essentially BLOWING engines up! But the employer wanted an Engineering Degree. So that's what I did, but not before Imposter Syndrome hit. Feeling not capable and not in the right place. But I managed to complete the degree as a mature student and pursue my dream career, starting on a graduate scheme at age 30.But one thing that has stuck around since that start of this story is Dyslexia. It's not something I had talked about until I was well in to my 30's but I had never let it hold me back. I gave it all I had with all the grit and determination I could muster. In this episode, I share my story of my life with Dyslexia, going to college and university, and pursuing my dream career.Key Topics:Motorbikes,Going to college,Going to University as a mature Student Discovering my dream career -Proudly sponsored by neurobox. Howdy, Ags! Today, we have the founder and CEO of Rockstar Capital, Robert Martinez ‘96! In this episode, he shares how he grew his company from nothing to what it is now. We thank Robert for sharing his knowledge with us today! Epiphany Moment - How to Turn a Good Life into a Rockstar Life As a child, Robert's parents gave him one piece of advice: go to school and get good grades. Being his first mentors, he followed them and went on to be the first in the family to graduate college. The following advice was from his professors, telling him what employers look for and to save for his 401k. Robert worked for ten years in corporate America. Eventually, he had a moment of epiphany – he did not have control over his financial future; his employer did. That was when Robert decided to turn his life around. He learned about real estate investing and got into a paid mentorship program to learn more. Being a sales guy helped him network with partners and clients alike. Robert hustled hard, and that came into fruition with the establishment of his company. If it had not been for Robert's realization, he would not have a life that he has complete control over. About Robert Martinez: After founding Rockstar Capital in March 2011, Robert has since directed the growth of Rockstar Capital's managed portfolio to 21 apartment communities with a total of 3,762 rental units. Since 2011, he has directed the underwriting, acquisition, and management of 30 apartment communities consisting of more than 5,243 rental units. On top of running an award-winning business, Robert holds an Engineering Degree from Texas A&M and is the only person to have won the National Apartment Association Independent Rental Owner of the Year twice. Robert shares a passion for soccer with his two boys, Ryan and Conner, and enjoys supporting their daily efforts in local club soccer.
