Hanna Stotland flunked out of high school, got a G.E.D., and went on to graduate from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. Since then she has helped countless families as an independent admissions consultant specializing in educational crisis management. Diana and Hanna talk about the rise in Title IX cases, how she helps students move forward after sexual misconduct allegations, and how parents can help children who are heading down the wrong path.     IN THIS EPISODE:    [01:20] Hanna shares how she went from high school dropout to Harvard Law School graduate to a successful admissions crisis management consultant  [03:60] Hanna details the types of crises that her clients are dealing with, including mental illness, substance abuse, disciplinary troubles and more  [05:52] At what stage in a child's crisis or recovery is it best to seek out professional support for students [09:53] Hanna shares about her single largest group of clients: students with sexual misconduct allegations [14:35] How often is alcohol or substance abuse involved in the sexual misconduct allegations and advice for how to move forward after this type of catastrophe [21:40] How parents can build trust and intervene in their child's life who is heading down a difficult path   KEY TAKEAWAYS:    In Hanna's experience, it is difficult to completely ruin your educational prospects in the US. She reminds students that no matter the crisis there is still the hope of rebuilding your life.  The number one principle for addressing a negative allegation or situation in your college application is not to shy away from the truth. It's better to be up front and own your past choices and behaviors. Parents, it's important to set up a clear line of communication and trust with your children, especially those that may be going down a difficult path. Let your child know that if they ever get into a bad situation that you will help them navigate it, no matter how bleak it seems.     RESOURCE LINKS   Hanna Stotland Website   https://oconnorpg.com/podcasts/building-from-the-ground-up-with-hanna-stotland   BIO:   Hanna Stotland flunked out of high school, got a G.E.D., and went on to graduate from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. September 28, 2021 Waking up with the forest. The hawks. Two are in vision. A calling inside these trees to wake up in peace. I'm amazed by the sounds the hawks are making. They want to be heard far ahead of all others things. In Native American Spirituality, when the hawk makes itself known to your presence the message is clear. You're caught up in too much. Stay alert and become more focused. Pay close attention to your surroundings. Quit trying to change others. Over the past nineteen months our evolution has been that of unexpected change. We've all been newly reshaped. For many the goals and or missions have been to remain in strength. The hawk's message is a huge reminder of what happens when the walls of the lockdown fell. Suddenly we got busy again. I took on new jobs while holding onto the others. Only to find myself yearning for that open space caused by the pandemic. And I often wonder if that's not the reason why so many aren't returning to their jobs and or are quitting. The change experienced has rebuilt the drive and desire to succeed. Because I'm a daily writer I'm able to go back and read of the struggles to put the new puzzle together. In doing so I realized how time was no longer a luxury but rather a forced entry. In the glory of being freed from the lockdown and with businesses reopening we chose to run toward the life we had before March 2020. Too big of a bite. My challenge to you is simple. Pay close attention to the animals near you. Not all of them but the one's that seem to stick out the most. Google their spiritual connection. You'll be amazed at how they are the stronger teacher in an age when we are the student.

August 13, 2021 Confusion. Making the moment. Is it a choice or have you been called? Called meaning bosses and decision makers are deciding for you. To be here! There's so much change and challenge that being here presents a different direction and point of view. I wish someone would look beyond the headlines of there being more job openings today than any other time in history. I'm thinking that's the silent protest of not wanting to come back until the business world begins to respect those who create the true structure of success. Look at the way teachers are being told to bring out a new layout of lessons. I've not only read the mandate but I'm living it. A new layer of visions and decisions with not one person identifying the potential presence of the consequences. An entire nation is moving in this new location. And for what reason other than to brainwash an entire generation. Isn't that what education is? To get inside the thinking process and program the mindset to participate with or remove yourself from. Have you seen the way students are doing math in 2021? I'm convinced Albert Einstein would be looked upon as being a distraction and not a genius. His bias behavior would be labeled an interference and because of his strength in the community he must be removed from a leadership role so that the newer methods of thinking can be worked into the process of rebuilding. Confusion. Making the moment. Are you in control or is it the post Covid sell out? I love hearing about there not being enough people to fill the jobs. Change the way you do business and include the rest of us in your plan of success. Willing is our way.

June 17, 2021 Pushing through the page. When flow isn't being met by the expectations fed by adventure. Pushing through the page. Instead of walking away, the push is to remain. To be present. To locate the lack of flow and study the cause of the blockage. Creative minds aren't the only travelers that deal with this moment of truth. You feel as if nothings moving. You're standing there with all kinds of emotions. But nothings flowing. Is it because every day feels like every day? A series and system of habits. Everything's laid out like pillows on a bed. I'm supposed to feel this way that this time. This is when my mood will change. I'll take the dog for a walk at this time and I will feel this. We are in the same frame of mind. It's not just me! I see it in you! I daily write at the same time every morning. I constantly blame it on the clock. I need to be here by such and such time or the flow of my day will become damaged. How do you get through this? You've got to call yourself out. Be upfront with your inner laziness. Through awareness make your moment a movement and not a stalemate in chess. There's a cause to every effect. Pushing through the page invites process as it churns into progress. I was shocked to read that the CEO of Morgan Stanley has ordered employees to be back at work 100% by September 2021. Shocked because I thought we had evolved into a new generation of workplace doers. Pushing through the page in the home office was new age. LinkedIn posted a story about presenteeism. According to my computer dictionary it's not even a word. Yet what it represents is very real. Presenteeism is being physically in a chair at work to appear dedicated. Pushing through the page. When flow isn't being met by the expectations fed by adventure. If you thought the pandemic was a setback the darker side of this journey through time is yet to be born. Rent is due, food and gas prices are soaring, every day there's a new Covid variant and your boss is promoting presenteeism. Pushing through the page. You are the owner and CEO of Me Inc. Winning is a choice.

June 14, 2021 When what you see isn't someone else's reality. When what you hear is silence to the passerby. When every step you take nobody is watching you. This has to be the reason why millions of people are attracted to Tik Tok! Instagram feels like My Space. Totally yesterday. Outside of the cute dog and cat videos, what are you really streaming? The world of sports and television would like to know! Seriously where is everybody? Lord knows I see a lot of face time talking on your smart phone. Why aren't the advertising agencies jumping on that with a Pepsi logo in the corner. Don't even give me a privacy explanation. If you're gonna talk out loud in public on that smart device that conversation is part of my place on the planet. Put a Pepsi logo on that and let's make some money! When what you see isn't someone else's reality. When what you hear is silence to the passerby. When every step you take nobody is watching you. What's your next move? The ability and willingness to walk away. To set aside. To no longer believe in. Then spend the rest of your life wondering why things didn't work out. Millions of American's are sitting at home waiting for the next government check. Why would you think they'd be interested in chasing a dream? That requires what you see to be seen by those you come in contact with. That would mean what you hear is planted in the ambition of those nearby or far away. When you take steps make sure people are watching you. Gene Simmons of KISS says it best, “If you don't think it's larger than life why should anyone else believe it?” The greatest moment in global history is upon us. The entire planet came to a stop. Now it's time to whip out the tools and re-plan, replenish, repair and receive. But you need to work for your voice and presence. To the government, you're only a number. When what you see isn't someone else's reality. When what you hear is silence to the passerby. When every step you take nobody is watching you.

June 2, 2021 A layer of thick fog rests on the floor of this forest in south Charlotte, NC. Unlike the scenes we're being shown on the planet Mars. We're amazed by the rover Perseverance and its way of documenting a completely different experience. No trees. No tall grass. No poison ivy clinging to the atmosphere with hairy tentacles. Just a bunch of rocks and rolling hills. A surface so bare that you can't help but wonder what life would be like if we were there. A life with no connection to the beauty of this planet. I remember how I reacted to the state of Arizona when a radio station tried to hire me in Phoenix. I stepped off that plane and knew right away how I didn't want to accept anything they offered. I'm from Carolina where everything is always green. To belong to a desert was a change in life my imagination couldn't handle. Which is why when I see fog in my forest I'm energized. The presence of Now. Allowing the mind and heart to expand beyond the imagination. In your own walk and way it's time to step into and within the birth of new growth. But first you have to identify with what growth is. Businesses speak of it daily. But as an employee or a dreamer are you moving through the motions and experiences? The reason why so many people have elected not to return to their jobs is simple. There's no growth only expectation. They want. They need. They command. They threaten. The American dream right? What is growth? You got an entire year of it between March 2020 and today. Space to find you. To see your true self in the mirror. To grow a pair. Growth. I love it that businesses are struggling to locate employees. This is your chance to ask, “What's in it for me?” What is growth? How can there be if everything you're thinking about is based on family and survival. That's where the current flow of growth exists. Family and survival. Not career survival but personal growth. A new layer of success has been given permission to evolve. What you decide today will determine if the new normal is nothing more than returning to the I Hate My Job mentality of success. You can't be the head of a department and not lead. Remove your position on the totem pole and find your growth. Teach it to the point that your coworker or student are strong enough to replace you. That's real leadership and growth. Create the fog on the forest floor. Be the maker of what attracts the imagination.

April 22, 2021 The sights unseen still carry energy. Is it coming from history or the presence of the present? The sights unseen. Is it a moment of connection that generates empowerment or is it a series of stories that which were required to make it known this day growing forward? The sights unseen. Judgement without truly knowing. People are a sight that is unseen. Meaning if we don't know the moments before the greeting it still has energy from a past that could infect the collaboration. In martial arts it was mandatory that we knew the history of every move and form. Through its history we grew to understand the plan and purpose. Life should be no different. Look at today's mass shootings. Sights unseen. The history sits right there in front of those before the moment but nothings done until confronted by the action. On a more peace filled level I ask if you've come to terms with who you are today. How you got here and what's expected to be delivered. Participating with the process of growth. Everything we do is swayed by decisions of participation. The sights unseen can't remain a mystery. Or we're giving permission to others to give birth to our personal image. How people accept you determines your cause and effect. There might be forgiveness. There will always be challenge. The daily mission is to be seen. But in whose eyes? How do we grow fruit from this? Our limbs are heavy. They provide food for thought but who's taking it? School teachers are being brutally treated by students and parents refusing to readjust to being in class. Those learning were given a year off while being passed on to the next level of learning without being properly tested. Respecting someone's fruit so freely shared turns the apple on the tree into an invisible source of possibility because like music and movies, we believe all things should be handed to us and not earned. Sights unseen. Nobody wants to see their kids suffering in the classroom so they create friction by way of demanding an easing up of the expectation. The sight unseen isn't today but rather 10 years from today. The student that quit learning now lives in a self-designed mental prison of little hope and a fear of the word perseverance. Structuring your life should be a mandatory. Discipline your mind body and soul and get this planet moving again. Saying your job sucks proves nothing. Admitting to it opens the door for new opportunities. What sucks is how you won't change the fruit on your limbs. Sights unseen. Your future. What's your decision today? It will control your tomorrow.

April 2, 2021 I am versus I will. I’m going straight to the end of the story. I am versus I will. Where do you find your energy source these days? My eyes are scanning the room like a Cyborg from Battlestar Galactica. Trying to feel the energy from the universe! Or I can bring out my inner poet and admit, “I’m seeking my muse.” I think one of the real reasons why I enjoy sharing conversations with people of fame is because of how they came into being. So many refuse to give themselves the credit. It’s not them! It was something beyond them that provided an opportunity. They moved with the flow of energy provided. I vividly remember my twenties and thirties in the way that I overdosed on dedication, loyalty, determination and passion. The mission was to be seen as well as heard. I tried very hard to be in the right place at the right time. You know, get into people’s faces. I am versus I will. Through daily awareness and being mindful of your present the need to be an “I am” keeps you further away from what “I will.” I refuse to believe the corporate world has changed due to Covid 19. It’s evolved. Have you? But I am! Change that to, “I will.” Amazing amounts of new energy begin to show up on your path. And like most humans walking through these days of uncertain methods of madness, anything that feels new sits on the edge of growth or tossed. But I am! Show me the hands of those who are no longer “I am” but rather once were. Millions of dollars are being forked out on overzealous life coaches and motivational books designed to make your new normal more acceptable. Stop saying, “I am.” The new goal is “I will.”

Mike Bayer is a one-of-a-kind life coach. Often called "Coach Mike" by the thousands of people whose lives he has helped transform, he not only has decades of experience in the mental health space as the founder and CEO of the CAST treatment centers, but also deep empathy and understanding from having dealt personally with mental health challenges, including having recovered from drug addiction, and navigating the pressure of coming out publicly. A New York Times bestselling author and one of very few openly gay life coaches, Coach Mike also hosts his own podcast, is a sought after speaker, and is called upon as a guest expert in the media. It is his practical, accessible, and innovative approach, his deep expertise, and his creative methods in helping people unlock their authenticity that earned him the spot as the first ever regular contributor to the #1 rated Dr. Phil Show, and helped him inspire millions. Coach Mike's first book Best Self was a runaway success, hitting the New York Times Bestseller list, published in 14 languages worldwide, and taught in classrooms across America. Penguin Life is excited to announce Coach Mike's new book ONE DECISION: The First Step to a Better Life (Penguin Life; On Sale: 10/6/20; $27). Building off the foundation of Best Self, ONE DECISION is an action-oriented guide that provides focus and clarity during times of uncertainty, reveals the truth about what drives our decision-making, and helps us connect with who we are, uniquely and at our core, before we make choices in our lives. It rises above the noise of the overpacked self-help category by providing the reader with real, immediate, and practical tools for transformation. Readers walk away from the experience of this book knowing what decisions to make, knowledge on what is holding them back, and a simple plan towards a better life. ONE DECISION is a journey that helps us shift our outcome-obsessed focus instead toward how we can adapt, grow and evolve regardless of the outcome. It shows us how each and every obstacle in our lives can become an opportunity. The FORCE, an acronym created by Coach Mike, powers every decision we make, and he shows us how we can choose the "positive" FORCE to make authentic decisions, or allow the "negative" one to be in the driver seat. For example, "Fortune Telling" is when we convince ourselves that we can predict how something will turn out when the healthier alternative is "Fact Finding"-finding out all the facts in any given situation instead of guessing what might happen. Understanding what's underneath our decisions empowers us to make better ones for ourselves. ONE DECISION offers an array of eye-opening insights into why we choose our behaviors, including: * How to curate a highly-effective team that can help you make consistent, authentic decisions in every realm of your life * Transformative exercises that will demonstrate precisely how to create opportunities out of obstacles * Advice for aligning your thinking and decision-making with your Best Self * Real-life stories that illustrate how Mike has helped people from all walks of life find their most authentic selves while struggling with the hardships of addiction, identity, and lack of motivation, * Creative guidance for discovering the path back to yourself in a moment when so many people feel lost and disconnected. We know ONE DECISION has what it takes to meet individuals exactly where they are and stir within them a deep, formidable desire and ability to create real and enduring change. Coach Mike brings a rare combination of artistry and know-how, story-telling and strategy, and a brilliant ability to speak directly to the reader's spirit. January 12, 2021 I’m not a dictionary freak but close to it. My writing instruments don’t come with spell check. It’s a hidden fear of what others will think of my words on paper. It’s already too far out there! I’ve always been fascinated with the way kids shape words. So often misspelled and yet I find it inspiring because their letter formations look better than what’s been labeled the right way. A good example. Receive vs Neighbor. Really? It should be knee-bur. A word that fell onto my writing page recently was unsheltered. I’m not sure why it found energy in my space other than it best describes a lot of what we’re going through. Unsheltered. I looked up the definition and was introduced to a different frame of thought. Homeless and unsheltered have a common connection but if you’re living out of a car, under a bridge or in a worn down building, it’s looked upon by decision makers as being sheltered homelessness. Unsheltered can also be your heart. Your ambition, drive and the way you think. It could be unsheltered. Making a simple choice can be a daytime nightmare. Uncertainty isn’t unsheltered. Just like homelessness they can have a connection but it’s two completely different experiences. The daily discipline is to be aware of what you’re personally defining as unsheltered. We should never allow our missions to be unsheltered. See the value of reason as being more than a description. Unsheltered means action and reaction. It invites unprotected change. You might be looking at the headlines thinking, “Oh Lord, where do we go from here?” The pandemic, politics, remote learning and office work, rent is due and so are the taxes. Don’t walk toward any answer unsheltered. While gently telling yourself, “Hey I’ve got this…” Do follow up shots. You know like Dennis Rodman of the Chicago Bulls getting rebounds. Ask, “How do I have this? How can we learn from this? Is this really what I want or am I taking up space in a pair of shoes?” Plant the seed. Awareness is always going to your four walls and a roof. Not unsheltered.

I sit staring at this page. Waiting to find out if its going to write for itself. The words are already there. It's my daily duty to scratch into the rings of this living tree. To locate a message. A needle in a haystack. If we were to ever locate the needle would it be one in the same as discovering our truer self? I wouldn't go into the challenge searching for the needle but rather the remnants of where its been. Just like us. Your true self has left things behind and the answers you seek are part of the journey of becoming you.

December 3, 2020 I remember hearing Dolly Parton share the story of how extremely early Country Music was how people learned of regional news. They’d put tragedy and or experience into the lyrics of a song. Then it was sent on its way. Look at how the times have changed. It’s getting very difficult to keep free of the evolving headlines. CNN and FOX fool us by changing the title but the story remains. You think you’re on the brink of something breaking and it’s the same ole crap you read three days ago. Now we’ve entered the age of television shows embracing the issues by including Covid and our nation’s struggles into what used to be an escape from the world. We can’t get away. In prayer this morning I mentioned that the Sunday morning pulpit motivational speeches weren’t healing us. Lifted yes! But for how long? An hour? A couple of days? How do we get to this thing called healing? Do we reach for it? How do we prepare for it? What is the total emotional cost to get a chunk or a chip of this thing called healing? Part of my greater worry is how affected we as a generation will be in the aftermath. Yep! That time period where we come to an agreement of finally being set free from the struggles of uncertainty. The aftermath. What will we look like? How will we think? Kids are living an educational nightmare right now. They’re mentally and physically evolving in ways no person could predict. The economy isn’t a bouquet of roses. Companies remain frozen inside a type of history they didn’t ask for. I feel deeply for remote employees. I spend a lot of time sharing conversation with them at the grocery store. They keep coming back because they need someplace to go without feeling guilty about being socially distanced. The daily goal shouldn’t be an hourly grind. We’re tired! Here’s something to think about. Coffee beans have to be ground. I mean give that bean hell. I want the best flavor and the air has to be scented with elegance. Grind those beans! Your life is currently being ground. For many of us we’ve got uncertainty covered. It’s not comfortable but our daily grind is feeding our willing walk and way. But what are you doing with your grounds? You can’t reuse coffee grounds. What are you doing with your grounds? My father would take them outside and spread them across the lawn. He said, “Worms love coffee grounds.” Those worms loved my father. His lawn was always incredible. Are you replenishing your soil with used coffee grounds? Being present in your presence. Grinding through life then taking those grounds to reinforce the foundation. Find focus on being aware of how this new way of living is moving through you. It’s too easy to #weneedamiracle. You are the miracle. Every day. Take care of your soil. My coffee grounds are the words I put onto paper. I don’t sip from that cup but the unpredictable first steps of a daily new beginning serve as a place of outreach. Stop throwing out your grounds. Utilize the continued strength. For today is a new day to grind.

The Power of Now. The new day. But is it a new way? So much time is wasted trying to figure things out. Especially during these Covid days. Now that the election is over what will fill that void? What’s the final opinion based on? It’s in that moment of Now that we begin to realize how the decision to arrive was completely unpredictable and now we’re having to live with the outcome. Accept the fact that every day is a new day. That’s easy to digest. Through the empowerment of choice we can also accept all things experienced as being a new way. Giving yourself permission to allow it to flow through a river of process. To gain access to progress we need time. The very thing we’re wasting trying to figure things out. We’re holding ourselves back by our need to always want to know. Sure I’d love to hear how all of this is going to play out. Will we live happily ever after? The problem with knowing is our ability to want to change the story. Because we aren’t in favor of the conclusion. Therefore the energy spent getting into this present place of Now has been wasted due to a lack of acceptance. I’m seriously guilty of this. I’m also guilty of trying new things out just to say I did. And in doing so a lesson has been learned. The question is, did it take me away from what I was called to do? Forty one years of Broadcasting and I am nowhere near where I wanted to be. During each new day I kept trying new ways. What if the daily discipline was to stop trying to reinvent the circle and hold yourself accountable for being a square? Participate with the new day and naturally newer ways of your greatest strength will locate its victory.

October 29, 2020 Inventing sentences. I love sharing conversations with comedians that built their careers around an improv stage. They believe in turning the moment of “Now” into a connection. Inventing sentences is craftsmanship. It can take years to finely tune every string. Yet when you page through social media you fall witness to a lot of invented sentences that have a stinging effect on your emotional journey. Without daily writing my pages would sit empty. It’s learning how to physically trust the energy of the initial thought. It inspires the mental images to take shape. Not just writers but every walk of life requires each participant to find trust in “Nothingness.” To be without thought. Only to bring forward a process of connections. Most people walk away of the journey saying things like, “I’ve got nothing. I’m out of here.” I honestly look at the Covid crisis as being that single moment in history where the entire world was thrown into "Nothingness” and look how far the newer paths are reaching! Believe in your “Nothingness”. Amazing things grow from having a cleared heart and mind. We’re all consumed with too much information which in so many circles demands that you have an action to their reaction. The present day open space of “Nothingness” provides your ambition with the needed energy to either sort things out or take a step outside your protective self-governing self. To be seen as something you never thought you’d do. To participate with a layer of unexpected creative energy that was bombarded by your old self. The one that was trapped at a job that demanded 12 hours a day. It wasn’t your career. You being there was all about those who hired you. It was their career. Thanks for you time. Here’s a pink slip. Look it easily fits into a frame! “Nothingness.” Any page, canvas, song, movie, TV show to having a friend to friend conversation would sit empty without your investment of having faith in “Nothingness”. New ideas. New dreams. New ambitions and progress. Your heart generates endless amounts of character and a personality. You have plenty of selfies of who you used to be. October 15, 2020 Right from the start I’ll admit that this is going to get heavy. Mainly because what we’re attempting to walk through as a people, generation and nation has got to be replenished with a new source of seeds for a future harvest. Oops. Three of you have already dropped off. At least my mom is still here. Mom? On this podcast episode I bring up a term that flowed through me at 5 this morning. The cry of the echo. The definition is simple but you may have to read through it a few times to understand its presence. The cry of the echo. The hearts endless attempt at wanting to navigate its way through the invisible emptiness caused by the presence of neglect and lack of accountability which has inspired a movement to let go and let die. Whoa! Come on dude! Have coffee first before you write! You have to understand that these assumed trying times are nothing more than what our hearts interpret as such. The cry of the echo. We all catch the same news headlines but we aren’t collaborating as a people but rather holding off on opinion due to a human need of being loved, liked and not lost. Verbal communication today acts as if it’s blasting away at this huge unstoppable mountain. Each party defends itself and rightly so. But the cry of the echo growing within, its unseen, unheard and unreleased until the breaking point takes on the shape of poverty, deceit, guilt, shame and all out embarrassment because the holder which is you, me, family and friends. Embarrassment because the holder knows they’re physically capable of accomplishing what they were designed to bring forward but are presently being held back by the parties involved. This is the part of the daily writing where I pen out a letter to the future reader. Dear Future Reader, the image and reality is that of multiple generations stuck in a silent mode of stay and wait. Yep. Stay and wait. The cry of the echo is our life in stalemate. Pull the lens of the camera back. This nation is being held together by essential workers that were once ignored by massive amounts of people because most wouldn’t be caught dead doing what they are expected. Yet today. Through their long hours and inner balance we are forging our way through a pandemic that’s badly injured brilliant decision makers, designers, chefs, broadcasters, actors, musicians and the list grows longer and deeper. The cry of the echo. The hearts endless attempt at wanting to navigate it’s way through the invisible emptiness caused by the presence of neglect and lack of accountability which has inspired a movement to let go and let die. Don’t stop. Your skills are needed. Maybe not where they once shined. But there’s a talent in you that brings out the best in others. My new reality? I’m that guy behind the cash register at the grocery store checkout line. Forty one years of radio and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to have real face to face talks with people trying to push away their personal echoes. Last night a senior in high school asked about how I’m able to these incredible conversations with anybody. My reply, “I show amazing interest in them. I take note of their presence and it brings forward an authentic connection.”

October 13, 2020 The things we do without knowing why we put so much energy into it. So many people have openly talked about loving the idea of knowing what our future holds. I shy away from such a feeling because if I knew what to expect I’d spend more time trying to change it. Like this forest that I live within. If I had known in 1992 what I see and experience today I’d be a completely different person. Rather than patiently wandering and wading through the challenges and changes a collection of trees endures daily, the mission would’ve been to hit Home Depot and Lowes and replenish the land with magazine cover limbs and leaves. The choice wasn’t made to follow that game. What I heard in my heart 28 years ago was to be present. To learn from the curves of a universal world then try to teach the activation to a future reader. On this podcast episode we put the energy of this forest into a frame of mind. A thought. And how investing in a thought can truly be the only answer required during their Covid days of assumption. This forest has served as my source of energy. From the roots inside the soil to being a writer on the outside, the constantly changing atmosphere evolves into words on a page. It’s the very forest my wife and I shared our wedding vows in. No day passes that I still don’t see how we gathered on a 102 degree day. What happened after that became a thought turned into a lifelong journey. The land was becoming bare and those living near the multiple trees wanted to clear. It was time to work closely with everybody’s ideas and reasons behind their thoughts and patterns. By 1997 just over seventeen hundred seedlings had been placed on the map. The wounded layer of land was trusted to bring forward something so incredibly invisible that I could never locate the right thoughts to share with anyone willing to listen. When time put me in the trees there were no deer, hawks, owls, snakes and other furry or fuzzy creatures. Today it’s an incredibly different story. Because I invested in a thought. Which a lot of us have been given during these shutdown moments. Thoughts come at us like water raging down a mountain stream. How many of your thoughts make it to the roots of others needing something to drink? Thoughts inspire and influence our personal need to giving. In doing so it’s completely natural to think of it as relinquishing. Bye bye had a good time but you’ve got to go. What if the story changed? Instead of tossing out, we look at the moment as being a continuation with connection. A community of strength and rejuvenation. What does that have to do with a forest that faced its final seasons in the 1990’s? That thought turned into a choice was never meant for me but rather tomorrows travelers. I walk several miles inside the greenways every weekend knowing someone’s thoughts made the path possible. I’m not inviting you to become a tree hugger and start replenishing your backyard. I used the forest as an example. To stop hoarding what you think and make a path for a generation you may never meet. Live beyond the present by investing in a thought. Let it grow. Let it become the existence of reason. Then pull the camera lens back and write to the future readers about the changing seasons. Your thoughts are meant to be present and possible. Believe in them and tomorrows readers will be grateful for the chance you took.

Apple Books has named "Your Hidden Superpower" audiobook as a "Must Listen" for June 2020. Narrated and written by ABC News and Good Morning America correspondent Adrienne Bankert, the debut title offers optimism and hope through the message of kindness as a superpower that can be honed. Now, more than ever, people are actively seeking out more positivity. A recent poll shows that 81% of the population say they are 'eager to hear some good news' (CANVAS8). The demand for happiness and positivity-oriented content to inspire optimism and hope is at an all-time high. "Kindness is more than just a nice idea; it's a fail proof anchor to hope - even in the first half of 2020," says Bankert. "Many are grieving over how unfair life has been; plenty are heartbroken over the divisiveness and pain of a year that looks nothing like we expected. Add to that the relationship and family issues, uncertainty of our economy and violence we see everywhere, and it adds overwhelming pressure." In "Your Hidden Superpower," Bankert, an Emmy and Edward R. Murrow award-winning reporter, shares her professional and personal insight about how the simple act of kindness can have a profound impact and create positive change. As a television correspondent, presenter, mentor, speaker, and reporter who has covered Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding, and who has interviewed top celebs from Harrison Ford to Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and more, Bankert taps into her personal life experiences to help readers uncover their own superpower through kindness. In her unique and creative fashion, Bankert weaves in real-life illustrations and powerful lessons throughout the book. Featuring conversations and connections confirming the phenomenal power of being kind, Bankert also reveals ways others can learn to adopt kindness as a lifestyle and how kindness develops a sixth sense, provides a compass for your identity, and acts as a personal GPS for new opportunities. "Showing kindness is a reminder that you are here to make a difference, and that you were born to be someone else's answer," says Bankert. "It is so much more than just making someone feel better. By being kind, you are the remedy." The Living Full Out show with Nancy Solari wants to educate you on how to rebuild your life. At times it may seem like life is constantly putting us in difficult situations that we can’t come out of. Instead, focus on harnessing that negativity and turning it into something positive that can improve your situation. Listen in to our first caller, Gisella, a concerned mother who is searching for advice on how to manage her rebellious teenager. Nancy explains to Gisella that in order to better understand her son, she must remember what it was like to be a teenager herself. Through the act of reasoning, and making connections, they’ll both be able to relate to one another. Creating a common-thread in their relationship will spark a deeper bond between them. Our second caller, Carson, is overwhelmed with the amount of full-time hours he’s been working at his part-time job. Unfortunately, his loaded schedule has deprived him of enjoying his passion for film. Nancy advises Carson to be assertive and stand up for himself in this situation by explaining to his employer that he’s unable to work the extra hours. By taking initiative, he is able to make assertive decisions by becoming the leader of his own life. Today’s inspirational guest is David Hoffman, who has undergone the devastation of losing his house and all his possessions in the midst of a raging fire. Despite being left with nothing, David was able to take this unfortunate event and look to the positives in life to overcome this difficult set-back. David explains the importance of moving forward and not allowing the negatives to overshadow the things we treasure. By going into the world with a positive mindset, you will learn how to effectively handle the hardships in your life. Our last caller is Joe, and he’s seeking advice on how to manage his daughters spending habits while she’s away at college. Joe’s tried to reason with his daughter about cutting back on her expenses, but nothing seems to be getting through to her. Nancy explains to Joe that in order for his daughter to fully grasp the concept of finance, she must know what it’s like to work for her money. Once she has a job and financial responsibilities, she’ll have a better understanding of the value money holds. Perhaps there was a time in your life when you felt lost amongst the burdens and hardships of life. During these moments, it’s difficult to rise above the pain we endure. However, by adopting a different outlook and focusing on even the smallest of positive glimmers in the rubble, we’re able to overcome these setbacks and live full out.
