This is it, folks! With The Awakening, we've now reviewed every televised 5th Doctor story! And to describe this story as one that doesn't overstay its welcome is fairly apt! It's not a stunner, but it's also not a stinker. And, really, the star of the show is a giant sort of Green Goblin face that looks like it belongs in the Cave Train ride under some blacklights at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988) The film is about a clan of evil aliens from an unknown region, who all resemble circus clowns. They arrive on Earth and invade a small town in order to capture, kill, and harvest the human inhabitants to use as sustenance. Killer Klowns from Outer Space was filmed in Watsonville, California, and at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The film utilizes practical effects, including rubber suits. The score was composed by John Massari. The film received generally positive reviews and has been considered a cult classic. Bad Taste (1987) This New Zealand science-fiction comedy horror film directed, produced and photographed by Peter Jackson, who also stars and co-wrote the screenplay, along with Tony Hiles and Ken Hammon. Independently produced on a low budget, it is Jackson's first feature film. Jackson and friends take on most of the key roles, both on and off-screen. The plotline sees aliens invade the fictional New Zealand village of Kaihoro to harvest humans for their intergalactic fast food franchise, where they face off against a four-man paramilitary force. It was a film that provided Jackson with the necessary leverage needed to advance in the industry. Much of the film was shot in and around Jackson's hometown of Pukerua Bay, north of Wellington, New Zealand using a 25-year-old 16mm Bolex camera.[4] Originally begun as a 20-minute short film called Roast of the Day. Bad Taste was shot primarily on weekends over the course of four years, at an initial cost of around $25,000. Toward the end of the shoot the New Zealand Film Commission invested around NZ$235,000 into the film to ensure its completion. Heavily influenced by special effects pioneer Tom Savini, Jackson incorporated many absurdly gory special effects Opening Credits/Introduction (1.52); Oh My GOD!!! (19.05); Killer Klowns From Outer Space Trailer (21.07); That Is Like So Tubular (23.13); It Is Totally Rad (1.00.11); The Double Bill (1:05.55); Bad Taste Trailer (1:07.09)); Bodacious Talk (1:09.11); Such A Wastoid (2:08.12); End Credits (2:13.36); Closing Theme (2:15.56) Opening Credits– Planet Synth by Dan Hughes Closing Credits – I Eat Cannibals by Toto Coelo. (with music) TOPICS: love droplets & love cactuses, when you're going through a desert of abandonment keep going -- hard, the melancholic beauty of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in the time of COVID, gaining insight into the loss of my husband as well as the lack of parental acceptance, what not to do if you think your kid is suffering from low blood sugar, what not to do with your newborn infant if you want them to feel loved and wanted, being burned out on the sound of humans speaking without listening, when 'no' or 'go away' doesn't work, cutting and running, what I do and don't regret, not waiting for it, seeing heaven in a wild flower and eternity in a moment, radical acceptance, radical letting go, preserving childish enthusiasm and an open heart, trust falls into life, letting my heart drive and telling my jerkbrain to switch off for a while, when simple acts of strangers' kindness trigger tears and grief, seeing failures as new information it takes courage to listen to, risking it all to win or lose but playing as well as I can with what I've got in the time available, and continuing my practice of not basing my choices on -- or listening to -- the advice and opinions of those who aren't paying the price and getting in the game. Also: how micro-dosing regularly with venting + validation with a network of skilled chill friends might prevent this island-destroying endless eruption of destructive lava-word-flow in the future. If I survive this fiery mess. And how messes make for some of the best and most inspiring, passionate, courageous, compassionate, loving people I know.

Santa Cruz, California is best known for its primo surf spots and as the location of the classic 80s horror-comedy The Lost Boys. You can still hear reverberations of “sexy sax man” Tim Cappello singing “I still believe” right there on the outdoor stage at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. But during the 90s, ask any local what band best defined the city, and they would without a doubt say Slow Gherkin. Though they never reach a large national audience, Slow Gherkin were local legends. Even when they throw together reunion shows, you can be assured they will pack the largest venues in the city. But it’s a shame the rest of the world never had Slow Gherkin fever in quite the same way. The group was one of the most original mid-90s ska bands out there, a time when many people felt that ska was oversaturating the market. Gherkin mixed New Wave hooks, syncopated Fugazi breakdowns, and sad indie rock laments with some of the most fun, cathartic ska of its era. In this episode of In Defense of Ska, Adam and I talk to three members of Gherkin: James Rickman, A.J. Marquez, and Phil Boutelle. We chat about their early days in Santa Cruz, the time John Avila (Oingo Boingo) approached them in New York to work on some tunes, and debate whether their 2002 album Run Screaming was a deliberate move away from ska or not. Details emerged this week from California and Santa Cruz County leaders on what it will take to lift the shelter orders. The county still lacks about 50 ventilators it needs for a potential peak of 100 severe COVID-19 cases, county health leaders said. That peak could come as late as June. Santa Cruz summer traditions remain up in the air, including the Wharf to Wharf footrace, Junior Lifeguards and visits to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Chelsea Strong, Director of Strategic Accounts at Obsidian Security, talks to Ashleigh and Kasey about cultivating relationships and successfully selling a highly technical product.SHOW NOTESWorking With the Engineering Team-Chelsea has to work very closely with the engineering team because she's selling a highly technical product. This relationship is incredibly valuable, but hard to cultivate especially as an organization grows and scales.-To be successful selling in this type of environment, never say anything you're not confident in. Check in with the SE's to clarify what you're planning to say and be sure that it's correct. You don't want to sell something that the product doesn't actually do and let the customer down.Selling a Highly Technical Product-It can be incredibly intimidating to work with a deeply technical product if you don't have an engineering background. Chelsea's background with language has been a massive help because part of the tech industry is essentially learning a new language.-When you're dealing with a technical audience, prospects are often wary of salespeople. Put in the work to know what you're talking about, especially if it isn't your specialty. Far too many salespeople and tems don't put in the hard and, oftentimes, monotonous work to learn the background and context in which they're working.Getting Into Sales-She fell into both sales and the technical sales niche she's currently in. Her first introduction was as a cashier selling candy at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and then began officially in outside sales with a job at Monterey Mushrooms.-After leaving that position she began as an inside salesperson at SurfControl covering companies that had only 50 employees. It was here that Chelsea really learned to decipher who was serious about the product and who just wanted to talk on the phone.Being a Mom-There's not much talk of personal lives in the sales world, but our personal lives have a massive impact on how we work and our career development. Before she became a mom Chelsea was very focused and becoming one has only increased this.-She's very selfish with her time and tries not to waste anyone else's so that she can maximize her time outside of work with her daughter.-Chelsea highlights planning in advance, ensuring you have a support system, and being transparent about your responsibility as a parent with your boss to successfully balance your work and personal life.Connect with Chelsea-LinkedInSend in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/othersideofsales/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/othersideofsales/support

Each year, Matt and two friends meet-up for Coaster Nerd Con (CNC), their own little convention for nerdy coaster riding. This year, the trio headed west to California. The parks and attractions they visited were: Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier, Knott's Berry Farm, Warner Bros. Studio Tour, Universal Studios Hollywood, Six Flags Magic Mountain, California's Great America, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. In this episode, Matt reveals which park had the best guest service, as well as his favorite coaster of the trip. He also shares 5 major lessons that he took away from this experience. They are: It all starts with your attitude and a quote from Henry Ford, "whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right." The waiting experience at your attraction could be having a bigger impact in the overall guest experience than you think. It's not enough for us to be employers, we must also be educators. Parks who started off as twins had very different journeys. It's probably time to re-think incentive programs and replace them with "inspiration programs." Josh - josh@amusementadvantage.com Matt - matt@performanceoptimist.com Twitter Facebook LinkedIn This episode is brought to you by FunRating. If you work in any area of the attractions industry, you’re probably curious how guests at your attraction perceive critical areas of guest experience. Which facility type provided the best service in 2018? Who really needs to improve their food service? And which attraction saw the highest increase in likelihood to return? These questions, and more, can all be found in the FunRating Report, and this is information that only Amusement Advantage can provide. What attractions would they have? And, has a friend of the podcast already designed a similar attraction? The guys also discuss the growing list of parks that are opening their doors for the Holiday Season. The good news for fans is that the parks don't shut down in October anymore! Last week, a listener who has never set foot in a Disney park e-mailed the show and wondered what the big deal was about the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and other similar parks. In this week's Interactive Discussion Topic, the CoasterRadio.com audience steps up and helps the listener understand why the parks are seen as the best. All this, plus a LIVE TRIP REPORT from Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and a whole lot more!
A few weeks ago, we celebrated the 6th Anniversary of this crazy podcast. EB and I got a little nostalgic for the old days. We would build our own time machine and go back to listen to a show featuring a past version of ourselves. This week, EB and I head back to September 26, 2005 to hear a show featuring Flava and Greg K. The topic that week, was "Dating at the Theme Park." We'll listen to our 2005 commentary on the topic and then go "Back to the Future" so we can give you our 2011 take on things. Let's just all be careful we don't cause a temporal paradox, OK? We also hear about EB's Opening Day trip to Holiday World and listen to a Live Trip Report from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk!
