You Cannot Do It Alone

Delivered by Pastor Brad Smith 02/09/25. People become very independent once they leave school and start fending for themselves. This independence flows through to all parts of their lives and often they cut themselves off from vital knowledge and assistance as a result. This further entrenches the concept of "self only" support and people become hardened against good advice. The great tragedy of the Christian Church has been in the adopting of this policy of "man knows best". The concept of building the church was based, in principle, upon the fact that man knows nothing, the answer is in the Lord. God offered Moses a rod, which was to be his authorization during his lifetime. The rod was the power of God to the man of God: also exemplifying the words of God and was always present when God acted. The rod, of course, was representative of the Holy Spirit which was poured out on the day of Pentecost, and the "type" became reality. Without this rod, Moses was nothing, and without the Spirit we are nothing... it is the power and authority from God. How many times when pressures arise do we grumble about our circumstances? "We are better off in our old world religion... I I preferred my life the way it was before we were Spirit filled"; these are common statements that people make to their oversight when they don't like the way they are being led. Moses was also pressed to change God's directions, but God said no. Scriptural References. Exo 15:15-16, Job 21:9-13, Psa 23:4, Joh 14:26, Jer 10:23-24. Episode Overview   What if your heaviest struggles could become sacred reminders of Christ's love? In today's episode of Sunshine in the Middle, I share a deeply personal story that taught me a powerful lesson about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. When I was serving as a Young Women's president, we planned a camp hike that turned into a sacred, unforgettable experience centered on Christ's ability to carry our burdens. I'll walk you through how a simple idea with rocks turned into a powerful, spirit-filled lesson—and how it ultimately changed me. Along the way, I'll share scriptures that have anchored me, moments when I pleaded for help, and the tender mercies I received that reminded me He truly carries us. This isn't just a story, it's my testimony—one I hope will help you see the Savior in your life, too.  Thanks for listening! I'm truly honored. Summary of Flexibility = Love•Rigidity: The tendency to adhere strictly to rules, routines, and predictability.•Spontaneity: The inclination to seek excitement and adventure without prior planning.•Flexibility: The ability to adapt and find a balance between rigidity and spontaneity.Importance of Understanding DifferencesMerrill points out that understanding one's own personality traits is crucial for improving marital dynamics. He discusses how rigidity can lead to anxiety due to a fear of losing control, while spontaneity can result in feelings of resentment when life feels too boxed in or constrained.Benefits and Drawbacks of RigidityBenefits:A structured environment can lower anxiety, especially for children, by providing clear expectations.2.Commitment: Predictability helps partners uphold commitments and builds trust.Drawbacks:1.Stifled Intimacy: Overly rigid environments can become boring and inhibit emotional closeness.2.Excessive Control: Rigid approaches can lead to legalistic attitudes that diminish personal freedom and enjoyment.Benefits and Drawbacks of SpontaneityBenefits:1.Excitement and Joy: Spontaneity can inject fun and unpredictability into life, fostering deeper emotional connections.2.Encouragement of Playfulness: It allows couples to engage in activities that uplift their spirits and reinforce bonds.Drawbacks:1.Instability: Sudden changes can create anxiety in partners who prefer predictability.2.Neglect of Responsibilities: Spontaneous decisions can sometimes lead to neglecting commitments and responsibilities, causing strain in the relationship.Balancing Rigidity and SpontaneityThe hosts emphasize that neither rigidity nor spontaneity is inherently right or wrong; rather, successful relationships require a balance of both. This balance is achieved through flexibility, the capacity to adapt to each partner's needs and circumstances.Scriptural References and Principles•Ephesians 5:21: Advocating for mutual submission and respect in relationships.•Philippians 2:3-4: Encouraging humility and valuing the needs of others over one's own.•Ecclesiastes 9:9: Reminding partners to enjoy life together amidst their daily routines.Practical Strategies for Couples1.Know Your Tendencies: Partners should identify whether they lean more towards rigidity or spontaneity.2.Set Shared Values: Agree on core values that will guide decisions and behaviors.3.Establish Common Goals: Identify long-term goals that both partners are working towards.4.Listen Actively: Encourage open communication without defensiveness or sarcasm.5.Seek Unity Over Being Right: Focus on compromise and mutual understanding instead of proving each other wrong.6.Encourage Each Other: Foster positivity by recognizing and affirming each other's efforts and traits.7.Shift Mindsets to ‘We': Cultivate a partnership mentality where both aim for collective success and happiness.Flexibility as a Key ComponentThe discussion culminates in the realization that flexibility is essential for resiliency in a relationship. It allows couples to navigate the inevitable storms of life with grace, adapting their approaches as circumstances change.http:://rocksolidfamilies.orgSupport the show#Rocksolidfamilies, #familytherapy, #marriagecounseling, #parenting, #faithbasedcounseling, #counseling, #Strongdads, #coaching, #lifecoach, #lifecoaching, #marriagecoaching, #marriageandfamily, #control, #security, #respect, #affection, #love, #purpose, #faith, #affairs, #infidelity

Who Am I Delivered by Pastor Brad Smith 27/04/25. Many of us must wonder from time to time why the Lord chose us to do what has to be done. Self-doubt is a good thing in the beginning because it helps us understand the need to trust in God and his purposes... after that... we need to walk by faith and let the Lord do his work through us. The Touchstone. Delivered by Pastor Brad Smith 06/04/25. The touchstone has been an essential method for testing the purity of gold and silver for 4000 years. This is scripturally mentioned with Abraham having much wealth in gold and silver (GEN 13:2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold). Historically, a method of testing was essential to separate counterfeit and fake precious metals, and to also establish overall purity. There are two known ways to test the purity of gold and silver. The first way is to melt them down where impurities can be separated (trial by fire). However, this is not suitable for the daily use of gold and silver coins... thus a touchstone is used. The metal to be assayed is rubbed on the touchstone, adjacent to the rubbing on the touchstone of a sample of a metal of known purity... they are compared. Uses of the touchstone... In scripture, God uses the well-known 'touchstone' principle to prove the validity of his promises, and also to confirm our reality as Christians. Speaking in tongues serves as a touchstone for those claiming to be saved or anointed... this is a direct comparison with the bible narrative. Scriptural References. Act 2:3-4, Mar 16:17-20, Rev 3:14,18, 2Tim 2:15, 1Cor 11:19, Rom 14:17-18, Jam 1:12, Rev 14:10-11. Summary: The Word of God with in us is happening everyday, before our eyes. We have moved into the realm of the Father being real to us now. We are aware that what the Father is doing today and as we walk with Him in the now, we are finding the unfolding revelation of Christ within us . Show Notes: We have entered in a new realm where we are reaching in to behold our Father in the now. All God's promises to us are unfolding now as we are aware of Him today. They area perpetual fulfillment. In this new realm, we must learn how to walk with Him in a new way. There is an awareness, and abiding now in the Lord. In this new realm we must trust in what He is doing daily. The unfolding of Christ within us is happening now. Quotes: Living in the realm of now. Then we're beholding Him, and He's real to us, and we are aware of Him in us. And that is a perpetual fulfillment going on. I do know Your promises towards me. And so maybe those are just kind of like Him going; “well, here's what I'm going to do for you now, and tomorrow, and the next day.” It's like He gives you a snapshot. Here's a snapshot; now don't wait for it, it's already happening. As we just open up and are aware how He has come forth in us. And we abide in that and live in that. That is the fulfillment, that is the promises. I know that He is continually speaking now and I'm learning a fresh what it means to walk with God and to know Him in a new way. How can you go into something you've never been to before? You simply allow the Lord to speak that into your spirit, and you move step by step. And you trust what God's doing. We are abiding in Him. In the Spirit, in the realm of eternity, there is a revelation of the Lord that's being revealed to us now; and it will increase, and it will keep increasing. Scriptural References:
