Daily Dose of Hope July 10, 2026   Scripture:  2 Kings 8   Prayer:  Lord Jesus, We give you glory and praise.  You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Thank you for your giving your life for us.  Your love is overwhelming and all-encompassing.  As we think about our day and our week, help us focus on when we have seen your love at work.  Show us those moments when you were with us, walking alongside us, guiding us, directing our thoughts and our words.  Lord, how we need you.  How we yearn to see your glory.  In Your Name, Amen.   Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the New Hope daily Bible reading plan.  We have been working our way through the Old Testament books of 1 & 2 Kings this summer.  Today, our reading is 2 Kings 8.   This is a chapter filled with much drama. Besides the first narrative about the Shunammite widow having her home and land restored to her (a beautiful picture of God's care for widows), the rest of the chapter is all about kings behaving badly. One king is killed by his lieutenant who then takes the throne. Other kings, even those with Godly fathers, were highly influenced by the house of Ahab and did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Over and over again, the kings disobey God, marry women who disobey God, and then create offspring who disobey God. It's a vicious cycle.   We also find a brief description of how Edom broke away from Judah, the southern Kingdom. The kings, with their messy, dramatic lives, operating far out of God's design, have made Judah a weak nation. Long gone are the days of David and Solomon. Now, Joram, king of Judah, can't get control of his people, his nation, and its various regions. There is chaos in Judah. Daily Dose of Hope July 3, 2026   Scripture: 2 Kings 3   Prayer:  Holy God, We come before you today in humility and awe.  You are a good God.  You, who put the stars and planets in motion, also created us.  You care about the most minute details of our lives.  You have numbered the hairs on our head.  Thank you for loving us.  Thank you for caring so much.  Help us be put even a small reflection of your love toward those around us.  More of you and less of me, Jesus.  Amen.   Welcome to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the New Hope daily Bible reading plan.  This summer, we are working our way through 1 & 2 Kings.  Today's reading is 2 Kings 3 and we will have our weekly discussion with Emmy Roberts, youth and next gen lead for New Hope.   While Elisha had clearly taken the place of Elijah in serving as the Lord's prophet to Israel, he had yet to prove himself.  We see God speak clearly and powerfully through Elisha.  There is a fair amount of drama in this chapter.  It begins by introducing Joram, Ahab's son, who succeeded him as king of Israel and while not as wicked as Ahab, Joram was still a sinful king.    Then, the narrative focuses on an issue with Moab, which has decided to no longer pay tribute (in the form of sheep) to Israel.  This angers Joram so he partners with Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, to squash the Moabite rebellion.  But their joint armies soon run out of water and food.  In order to figure out what's going on, Jehoshaphat asks for a prophet of the Lord to shed light on the situation.  This is when Elisha is called in.  It's clear that Elisha has significant animosity toward Joram.  He knows he is a sinful king who does not honor the Lord and he really doesn't want to offer his advice.  The presence of Jehoshaphat, a man of God, calms him down and he finally agrees to offer prophecy.   God speaks powerfully through Elisha, saying that he will fill the land with pools of water so they can all drink.  That is exactly what happens.  Water fills the land by morning time.  In an interesting twist, the Moabites see the sun hit the water and believe that the pools are filled with blood, thinking the armies of Israel and Judah have slaughtered each other.  So the Moabites are caught off guard when the two armies (Israel and Judah) rise up and fight. Moab is defeated.   Probably the most distressing aspect of the chapter is the last portion of text.  In a desperate attempt to win, the Moabite king sacrifices his first-born son on the city wall, thinking it may appease the false god Chemosh.  Of course, the Israelites are outraged at the sight.    Evil comes in all forms.  From Joram to the Moabite king, evil is present in our world. From my human perspective, I often wish God would just swoop down and just eliminate all the evil in the world so that suffering and pain could be banished for good.  I mean, God is all-powerful.  But that isn't the way God operates.  Plus, the reality is that we are all a complex mix of good and evil.  It's important for me to remember that God dealt with evil through the quiet strength of the cross.  And we trust that he is still dealing with evil in ways that we can't see or understand.  Eventually, we know that Jesus will return and deal with evil for good.  Until then, we seek to be light in a dark world. In this Bible Story, we learn about the departure of Elijah. The faithful prophet is taken up into the clouds by chariots of fire. Elisha, his faithful student, took his place as prophet over Israel. COMMENTAIRE DE LA 1ère LECTURE DU JOUR2 R 11, 1-4.9-18.20En ces jours-là, lorsque Athalie, mère d'Ocozias, apprit que son fils était mort, elle entreprit de faire périr toute la descendance royale. Mais Josabeth, fille du roi Joram et sœur d'Ocozias, prit Joas, un des fils du roi Ocozias, pour le soustraire au massacre. Elle le cacha, lui et sa nourrice, dans une chambre de la maison du Seigneur, pour le dissimuler aux regards d'Athalie ; c'est ainsi qu'il évita la mort. Il demeura avec Josabeth pendant six ans, caché dans la maison du Seigneur, tandis qu'Athalie régnait sur le pays. Au bout de sept ans, le prêtre Joad envoya chercher les officiers des mercenaires et des gardes, et les fit venir près de lui dans la maison du Seigneur. Il conclut une alliance avec eux, leur fit prêter serment dans la maison du Seigneur, et leur montra le fils du roi. Les officiers exécutèrent tous les ordres du prêtre Joad. Chacun prit ses hommes, ceux qui entraient en service le jour du sabbat, et ceux qui en sortaient ce jour-là, et tous rejoignirent le prêtre Joad. Celui-ci leur remit les lances et les carquois du roi David, qui étaient conservés dans la maison du Seigneur. Les gardes se postèrent, les armes à la main, devant l'autel, du côté sud et du côté nord de la Maison, afin d'entourer le futur roi. Alors Joad fit avancer le fils du roi, lui remit le diadème et la charte de l'Alliance, et on le fit roi. On lui donna l'onction, on l'acclama en battant des mains et en criant : « Vive le roi ! » Athalie entendit cette clameur des gardes et du peuple, et elle accourut vers le peuple à la maison du Seigneur. Et voilà ce qu'elle vit : le roi debout sur l'estrade, selon le rituel ; auprès de lui les officiers et les trompettes, et tout le peuple du pays criant sa joie tandis que les trompettes sonnaient. Alors, elle déchira ses vêtements et s'écria : « Trahison ! Trahison ! » Le prêtre Joad donna cet ordre aux officiers : « Faites-la sortir de la Maison, à travers vos rangs. Si quelqu'un veut la suivre, frappez-le par l'épée. » En effet, le prêtre Joad avait interdit de la mettre à mort dans la maison du Seigneur. On mit la main sur elle, et elle arriva au palais par la porte des Chevaux. C'est là qu'elle fut mise à mort. Joad conclut une alliance entre le Seigneur, le roi et le peuple, pour que le peuple soit le peuple du Seigneur ; il conclut l'alliance entre le roi et le peuple. Alors, tous les gens du pays entrèrent dans le temple de Baal et le démolirent. Ils mirent en pièces ses autels et ses statues et, devant les autels, ils tuèrent Matane, prêtre de Baal. Le prêtre Joad posta ensuite des gardes devant la maison du Seigneur. Tous les gens du pays étaient dans la joie, et la ville retrouva le calme. Quant à Athalie, on l'avait mise à mort par l'épée dans la maison du roi.

Nuestra vida entera gira en torno a las relaciones. Cada decisión que tomamos en nuestro caminar nos lleva a conectar con alguien más. Nos unimos para formar familia, para emprender negocios o simplemente para desenvolvernos en nuestro trabajo diario. Al final, cada una de esas alianzas que hacemos busca un solo propósito: asegurar nuestro bienestar y que todo nos salga bien.Sin embargo, la historia bíblica nos presenta un contraste impactante. Pensemos en un hombre que vivió para agradar a Dios, un líder que se esforzó por hacer lo correcto: el rey Josafat de Judá. Crónicas relata cómo dedicó su reinado a limpiar la tierra de toda abominación y a guiar el corazón del pueblo de regreso a su Creador.La Escritura lo resume así en 2 Crónicas 19:4 (RVR1960): “Habitó, pues, Josafat en Jerusalén; pero daba vuelta y salía al pueblo, desde Beerseba hasta el monte de Efraín, y los conducía a Jehová el Dios de sus padres.”A causa de esa fidelidad, Dios afirmó su reino. Josafat es el ejemplo perfecto de que cuando pones al Señor en primer lugar y clamas en oración, Él pelea tus batallas. ¡Él sabía que con Dios al frente, la victoria estaba asegurada frente a cualquier ejército! Pero, atención a esto: este mismo hombre recto tuvo un punto ciego, un error terrible que repitió más de una vez... no supo elegir sus alianzas, no supo con quién relacionarse.Primera alianza peligrosa: El parentesco con la maldadAquí es donde comienza el verdadero peligro: cuando bajamos la guardia en nuestro círculo más íntimo. La Escritura nos muestra una alerta roja en 2 Crónicas 18:1 (RVR1960): “Tenía, pues, Josafat riquezas y gloria en abundancia; y contrajo parentesco con Acab.”El rey que caminaba en bendición, que tenía riquezas y gloria dadas por Dios, termina emparentado con Acab. ¿Y quién era Acab? El hombre que había cerrado el corazón de Israel al Dios verdadero, un rey totalmente influenciado por Jezabel, una mujer que desató la idolatría demoníaca y persiguió a los profetas del Señor. Josafat, el hombre de oración, bajó la guardia y abrió la puerta de su casa al enemigo. La alianza política y militar se selló trágicamente a través del matrimonio de sus hijos: Joram (hijo de Josafat y heredero al trono de Judá) y Atalía (hija de Acab y de la reina Jezabel).Ese matrimonio fue la puerta de entrada para que la idolatría, la manipulación y la maldad de la casa de Acab y Jezabel se infiltraran directamente en la descendencia de Josafat y en la corte de Judá, cobrando un precio altísimo en las siguientes generaciones.¿Qué es exactamente una alianza? Es un pacto, un convenio, un acuerdo profundo de cooperación. Puede ser un matrimonio o una sociedad mercantil; es, en esencia, unir dos fuerzas hacia un mismo destino. ¡Pero cuidado! Hay bendiciones enormes que Dios ya decretó para tu vida, pero si te relacionas con la persona equivocada, se te pueden escapar de las manos o perder por completo.Si alguna vez tomaste la decisión de caminar con la persona incorrecta, tú más que nadie sabes el precio que se paga. Y no hablo solo del área sentimental; hablo de tus finanzas, de tus proyectos. ¿Cuántos se han asociado con la persona equivocada y perdieron dinero? ¿Cuántos le abrieron la puerta a quien no debían y perdieron años valiosos de su tiempo?Escucha bien esto iglesia: Aliarse con alguien que está fuera de la voluntad de Dios siempre producirá algún tipo de pérdida. No existe la mentira de “yo me meto en este negocio o en esta relación y no pasa nada.” ¡Siempre pasa algo!.No pasó mucho tiempo después de firmar esa alianza, cuando el rey Acab invitó a Josafat a pelear en una guerra contra Ramot de Galaad:Unirte a lo incorrecto siempre te va a arrastrar a batallas y problemas que no son tuyos.Josafat, queriendo sonar espiritual en medio de una relación tóxica y equivocada, le dijo a Acab: “Te ruego que consultes hoy la palabra de Jehová”. Acab mandó a llamar a sus cuatrocientos profetas falsos y les preguntó: “¿Iremos a la guerra?”. Y claro, esos mentirosos le dijeron exactamente lo que él quería escuchar: “¡Ve!”.Pero Josafat en su espíritu no estaba tranquilo e insistió: “¿No hay aquí todavía algún profeta de Jehová a quien podamos consultar?”. Y miren la respuesta de Acab: “Sí, hay uno, pero lo aborrezco, porque nunca me profetiza nada bueno, solo desgracias”. A regañadientes llamaron al profeta Micaías, y la Biblia registra su inmensa valentía en 2 Crónicas 18:13 (RVR1960):“Y Micaías respondió: Vive Jehová, que lo que mi Dios me dijere, eso hablaré.”Al final, en medio de esa mala junta, se desató un espíritu de mentira y engaño. El fruto de las malas alianzas es que terminas envuelto en un ambiente donde reina el engaño, la mentira, la ruina, la enfermedad y la muerte.A pesar de ser un hombre que buscaba a Dios, Josafat tomó una pésima decisión que casi le cuesta la vida. ¡Casi muere masacrado en el campo de batalla simplemente por ponerse las ropas de un rey reprobado por Dios! Cuántas veces nosotros, como hijos de Dios, nos metemos en relaciones, amistades o negocios equivocados, y no pensamos en cómo va a terminar la historia. Nos dejamos llevar por el momento, olvidando esa gran y solemne advertencia de Deuteronomio 32:29 (RVR1960): “¡Ojalá fueran sabios, que comprendieran esto, Y se dieran cuenta del fin que les espera!”El confrontamiento de Dios: Una palabra dura para una generación complacienteCuando Josafat regresa de esa guerra fallida, Dios no se queda callado. La conclusión de este primer error se sella con una reprensión tajante que el profeta Jehú le hace al rey, una palabra que hoy es necesario que la iglesia escuche y responda. Se encuentra en 2 Crónicas 19:1-3 (RVR1960): “Josafat rey de Judá volvió en paz a su casa en Jerusalén. Y le salió al encuentro el vidente Jehú hijo de Hanani, y dijo al rey Josafat: ¿Al impío das ayuda, y amas a los que aborrecen a Jehová? Pues ha salido de la presencia de Jehová ira contra ti por esto. Pero se han hallado en ti buenas cosas, por cuanto has quitado de la tierra las imágenes de Asera, y has dispuesto tu corazón para buscar a Dios.”Tal vez esta confrontación directa del profeta Jehú caiga hoy como piedra en el zapato para muchos cristianos ya que en estos tiempos finales, Dios está necesitando una iglesia que tome decisiones firmes: gente valiente, aguerrida y ejercitada para la batalla; creyentes audaces, astutos, perseverantes, decididos y armados de valor. Tristemente, lo que vemos hoy es una generación complaciente, que no se deja exhortar ni corregir, una generación donde, si alzas la voz, ya sienten que los estás maltratando; al punto de que hoy casi vas preso por disciplinar a tus propios hijos, a los alumnos o a los miembros de la comunidad, gente sin disciplina y sin corrección, que exige que todo el universo gire al compás de sus emociones, personas que, movidas por la envidia, destruyen lo que a otros les ha costado edificar, simplemente porque lo único que buscan es reconocimiento y adulación. Quieren que les laven los pies y buscan desesperadamente ser aprobados por el mundo, en lugar de ganarse el respeto y la admiración cumpliendo los preceptos de Dios.¿Dónde quedó la línea de separación? ¿Dónde debes trazar la raya con tus parientes, con tus relaciones, con tus amistades y con tus negocios? ¿En qué momento cruzas esa frontera, comprometiendo tu testimonio, arriesgando tu vida con Dios y haciendo una burla de tu Salvador?¿Dónde trazas la ...

The annihilation of Joram and Ahaziah was the result of their stubborn rebellion against God warnings, thereby forsaking their own mercy—“For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord GOD. “Therefore turn and live!” Ezekiel 18:323. God's prophetic Word was accomplished as Jezebel was justly executed for the heinous atrocities she committed against God's people—“For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:3

And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.2 Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. In unserem Garten laufen momentan Baumfällarbeiten. Ein hoher, dicker Baum muss weichen. Wie viele Jahre lang er Hitze und Sturm getrotzt, wie viele Menschenleben er begleitet und wie viele Kinder er durch Kletterpartien glücklich gemacht hat, können wir nur erahnen. Jahrzehnte sind darüber ins Land gegangen – und in nur wenigen Stunden fällt der Baum. Weg ist er. Heute denkt kaum noch jemand an den wohltuenden Schatten in der Sommerhitze, an die vielen Nistplätze für die zwitschernden Vögel. Im Gegenteil, man ist dankbar, dass das Sonnenlicht nun ungehindert auf die Photovoltaikanlage fällt, endlich kein Laub im Herbst mehr zu harken ist und die Kinder nicht mehr vom Baum fallen können.Das gibt mir zu denken: Was empfindet man, wenn ich abtrete? Dankbarkeit, dass ich niemandem mehr im Weg stehe? Erleichterung, dass man endlich keine Mühe mehr mit mir hat? Oder denkt jemand wehmütig an mich und meine Art zurück? Habe ich jemandem wohltuenden Schatten in seinen Wüstenzeiten geschenkt, konnten Menschen sich gern und geborgen bei mir »einnisten«?Wir Menschen erinnern uns leider schnell an das Schlechte und nur schwerfällig an das Gute. Da ist auch die Bibel realistisch: König Joram wurde nicht vermisst, denn seine üblen Machenschaften waren berühmt und berüchtigt. Er ließ alle seine Brüder und andere hochrangige Menschen ermorden und führte ein böses Leben. Außerdem verführte er das Volk dazu, sich vom wahren Gott abzuwenden und Götzenbilder anzubeten. Ob er überhaupt etwas Gutes tat, ist nicht bekannt. Die Bibel überschreibt sein Leben mit der nüchternen Aussage: »Er tat, was dem HERRN missfiel.« Und die Konsequenz seines gottlosen Lebens waren Dankbarkeit und Erleichterung über seinen Tod. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead.32 And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.

Today we kick off our holiday series in the Psalms. In the first of the Psalm of Ascent, a weary pilgrim cries out to God from a place of distress – surrounded by deceit, conflict, and hostility. This ancient prayer reminds us that honest lament is a form of faith, and that even in the darkest valleys, we can bring our deepest troubles before the Lord. As we begin our own journey of ascent, we are invited to voice our struggles and trust in the God who hears. Joram Lürsen is regisseur. Hij regisseerde de serie Dag & Nacht, waarvan op 9 april het derde seizoen verschijnt. Na de afdelingen Verloskunde en Kindergeneeskunde speelt het nieuwe seizoen zich af op de afdeling Psychiatrie. Daar worden opnieuw bevlogen zorgmedewerkers gevolgd die het leven van hun patiënten draaglijker en lichter proberen te maken, terwijl ze zelf vaak met persoonlijke worstelingen te maken hebben. Deportata ad Auschwitz è messa a suonare nell'orchestra femminile del Lager. Trasferita al campo di Ravensbrück viene impiegata nella manovalanza coatta alla Siemens. Dopo la Liberazione emigra in Palestina. In Israele lavora come cantante e insegnante di musica.  Nel 1960, in dissenso con la politica israeliana, decide di tornare in Germania con il marito Nissim e con i figli Edna e Joram. Ad Amburgo insieme ad altri ex perseguitati fonda l'Auschwitz Komitee Deutschland. Tuttora attiva come cantante con il gruppo Coincidence, creato dalla figlia Edna nel 1988, e più recentemente anche con il gruppo rap Microphone Mafia e il jazz accordionist Gianni Coscia. Jehu was God's weapon of judgment upon Ahab and Jezebel. He carried out his mission with intensity and zeal. Although God has not called the church to violence, we should, nevertheless, imitate Jehu's zeal in our mission to love. 1 Kings 16:30-33 Ahab did more to provoke God to anger than all the kings of Israel who came before him. He introduced and sponsored the worship of Canaanite gods, including Baal and Asherah. His wife, Jezebel of Sidon, was a religious zealot who relentlessly persecuted the prophets of Yahweh, including Elijah (1 Kgs. 19:2). 1 Kings 21:5-7 When righteous Naboth refused to sell his vineyard to Ahab, Jezebel took matters into her own hands. After she had Naboth executed, Ahab took possession of his neighbor's plot. 1 Kings 19:15-17; 21:19-29 God ordained that Jehu become king instead of Ahab. This Jehu would be God's weapon of vengeance upon Ahab's house. 2 Kings 9:4-13 After a young prophet anointed the military commander, Jehu, king, his officers immediately supported his bid for the throne. 2 Kings 9:30-31 Jehu first confronted and the reigning king Joram, Ahab's son. Then he came for Jezebel. Next, he arranged for the death of all Ahab's seventy sons. 2 Kings 10:18-19 Last of all, Jehu killed as many worshipers of Baal as he could and turned the temple into a latrine. John 3:16-17 Jesus is the true and better Jehu. However, God did not send him to condemn the world, but to save it. Revelation 19:11-16 Nevertheless, when Jesus comes again, he will come in judgment, making Jehu's zeal look small in comparison. Reflection If you happen to be a lecture in a parish, and comes your turn to be the reader you're hoping is not this reading. It's so interesting because people say, well, why does this matter? And it does matter essentially to understand how God is working in your life, and in my life. He's so connected to the ordinary. You're listening to a kind of an ancestral.com report about who your relatives are. And it's interesting and curious to think that your generations go back, but can you realize that what God is saying is, from the beginning of time, I have been working with ordinary people in ordinary circumstances, slowly enabling them to grow and evolve and change until they were ripe and ready to receive the most extraordinary gift. Mary, being infused with the Holy Spirit and giving birth to Jesus. It happened naturally. It continues to grow and happen naturally. I look back at the generations in my family and they were different than I am, and each generation somehow learns from the generation before. That's the process of evolving into the people that God calls us to be. The family that ultimately is the final goal is you living in God with God and feeling those around you. Closing Prayer Father, it's hard for us to realize that these things, marvelous things that you have accomplished in the world, were done in such a simple, ordinary, human way. It's all about us understanding how human you are and how your humanity, when it is directed toward us, awakens in us something so natural that we cannot not be drawn to your beauty, your wonder, your grace that comes to us through most ordinary ways. And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.

Today we will be taking a look at 25 chapters that are both exciting and complex. The 25 chapters: 1 Kings 15 - 22 2 Kings 1 - 11 2 Chronicles 17 - 22 A period of approximately 33 years. As our study begins we see Ahab (874-853 BC) - is the ruler of the Northern Kingdom of Israel and Jehoshaphat (870-848 BC) - is ruler of Judah, the Southern Kingdom. There's good news and bad news from this period of 33 years… There was an alliance made between Israel and Judah. Bad news: 2 Chronicles 18:1 tells us, "Now Jehoshaphat (Judah) had great wealth and honor, and he allied himself with Ahab  (Israel) by marriage." As we dig into this we see Ahab (Israel's worst King) was married to Jezebel, they had a daughter named Athaliah.  We also see that Jehoshaphat had a son named Jehoram. Athaliah and Jehoram marry. This is the alliance between Israel and Judah, but the marriage brought great tragedy. Ahab invites Jehoshaphat to Samaria in Israel. Ahab tells him he wants land back that had taken from him and he wants Jehoshaphat to help him fight to get it back. Ahab has 400 false prophets that say he should attack Judah because he will be victorious. Jehoshaphat listens but requests a 2nd opinion. That 2nd opinion comes from a prophecy of Micaiah son of Imlah a prophet of the Living God. Micaiah tells them, "I saw all Israel was scattered on the hillside because the shepherd was gone." And what happens is that he is thrown in jail. Judah and Israel go to battle and attack Remoth Gilead and the bettle ends in great defeat for Israel and Judah. King Ahab is killed and one of his sons takes over his throne.  About 5 years later we read in 2 Chronicles 21:1 that Jehoshaphat dies and his son Jehoram succeeds him as king of Judah. Additionally, in 2 Chronicles 21:4-5 we see Jehoram puts all his brothers to death in order to protect his throne. And now we see Elijah stepping in with a letter to King Jehoram. 2 Chronicles 21:12-13 we see Elijah tell Jehoram that he has not followed the way of his father and grandfather in following God and instead follows the worship and practices of idolatry of the Northern Kingdom. Jehoram has turned away from the God of David. Vs 13-14 he holds Jehoram accountable for killing his brothers, and tells him that he will become sick and die of disease.  This is a warning to the way Jehoram is headed and it's God's call to stop and to come back to Him. But Jehoram continues to do what he had always done. So he dies and his son, Ahaziah, becomes King of Judah.   Reminder: Athaliah is King Ahab and Jezebel's daughter. Ahab and his wife led Israel away from God. Their daughter Athaliah is married to Jehoram (King of Judah) and when Jehoram dies their son Ahaziah becomes King of Judah. The spiritual pollution of Israel has not only come down to Judah, it has taken the throne. The line of Ahab is on the throne in both Israel and in Judah. In Israel Ahaziah's uncle, Joram, is King.  There is a second Battle of Remoth Gilead at this time. Ahaziah (King of Judah) and his uncle Joram (King of Israel) decide to do the battle again, expecting to win this time. Joram, King of Israel is severely injured in the battle, Ahaziah, King of Judah, goes to check on his uncle. 2 Kings 9:1-3 Elisha has a man go to Remoth Gilead and anoint Jehu as King over Israel. The result is found in 2 Kings 9:22-23, Jehu confronts the Joram King of Israel and Ahaziah King of Judah at the bedside of Joram, Ahaziah's uncle, where he and Ahaziah are talking. Jehu says there can be no peace as long as the idolatry and witchcraft of Ahaziah;s mother Jezabel abounds. Joram flees and Jehu pulls out his bow and arrow and hits Joram in the back killing him.  Jehu then chases Ahaziah wounding him. Ahaziah dies, too, and now both the King of Israel and the King of Judah are dead. I Kings 11:1 tells us that when Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah saw he son was dead, she proceeded to destroy the whole royal family of Judah. She desired to eliminate the whole line of David through which the Messiah was to come.  2 Kings 11:2 but the Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash, son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes, who were about to be murdered.  She put him and his nurse in a bedroom to hide him from Athaliah; so he was not killed. And as a result a godly king will ultimately come to the throne against the desire of Ahaziah. Join us next week as our story continues! Now What? Then Jehu went to Jezreel and found Jezebel, the queen mother, whose last act in this world was probably screaming after she was tossed out of a tower window by her eunuchs. That left only Athaliah, mother of King Ahaziah. Athaliah was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, the sister of King Jehoram of Israel. When she heard that Ahaziah was dead, she tried to kill all of her grandsons. Why? She—and really, it was the Fallen realm motivating her—tried to eliminate the line of David (her husband, King Jehoram of Judah, son of Jehoshaphat, was a descendant of David) and replace it with the line of Ahab. Unfortunately for Athaliah, she missed one—an infant boy named Joash. Jehoiada the priest had secretly saved and raised Joash in the Temple. At the age of seven, Jehoiada brought him out, proclaimed him king, and, at his command, had Athaliah put to death, thus putting an end to the house of Ahab. THE ELDEST SON of good King Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, was more like his mother-in-law, Jezebel, than his father. After Jehoshaphat's death, Jehoram killed his brothers and turned his kingdom toward the gods of the Amorites (i.e., Phoenicians) worshiped by Jezebel. As a result, Jezebel was afflicted with a terrible and horribly painful disease that killed him seven years later. Jehoram's son, Ahaziah, reigned only one year when he was killed by Jehu while visiting his uncle, Ahab's son Joram. Upon his death, Jehoram's wife, Ahab's daughter Athaliah seized the throne, killed the royal family of Judah—the House of David—and reigned as queen for seven years. She appears to have been cut from the same cloth as her mother, Jezebel.  But after seven years, the high priest Jehoiada, who'd been secretly raising Ahaziah's youngest son, Joash, declared the boy king, had Athaliah put to death, and tore down the temple of Baal in Jerusalem. At the end of the day, all of the political machinations involving the land of Israel down to the present day are reflections of the war in the unseen realm for control of God's mount of assembly—Zion.
