In this podcast, Bhante Sathi touches on the relationship between skillfulness and karma, the journey of spiritual growth, overcoming challenges, and building confidence.
Whereas men generally tend to operate from the head by focusing on the outward appearance, God always focuses on the heart. This means that when God looks at your heart, He focuses on your motives and intentions for doing what you do. Discover more in this episode.Support the show

This message is part 13 of the series, No other foundation. An important element of the study of the Word is, the Word grant you 2 things:Knowledge - I know, I know I'm born again, I'm a son/daughter of God etc.Skillfulness - a function of consistent exposure to the knowledge. Paul in 2Tim 3:14 told Timothy “To continue”. Continue here meaning to “dwell” “abide”, to be steadfast at something and to be consistent at it. That consistency grants you a skill. Skilful meaning to relate with the Word from a more experiential point of view. UnSkilful meaning by not exercising yourself. Heb. 5:12-14.Speaker: Kobby Poku | Scripture: 2 Tim. 3:14-15; Heb. 5:12-14; 1Tim 4:7-9

If you listen to me for even a few minutes, you're likely to hear me use the word Skillfulness. The practices that I talk about here are all about developing the skill of living well. As Sharon Salzberg has said: “We don't meditate to get better at meditation. We meditate to get better at life.” When we live without skill, we naturally engage in judging. When we encounter another person, this judging shows up as jealousy, resentment, and downward social comparison. In today's episode, I talk about what Buddhism calls The Four Heavenly Abodes (AKA Boundless States of Consciousness): Love, Compassion, Equanimity, and Sympathetic Joy. I cover the first two at the surface level and go deep on Equanimity and Sympathetic Joy. I hope you enjoy the episode! If you have any questions on any of this, please feel free to comment on the video or send me an email at art@artburnscoaching.com. Or you can also meet with me live and in person. It's a free meeting with absolutely no strings attached! To claim your free coaching session, please click here: https://calendly.com/artburns/45-min-coaching-session

MagaMama with Kimberly Ann Johnson: Sex, Birth and Motherhood
In this first of two episodes, Kimberly and Stephen look at what happens when we normalize these uniquely troubled times, as well as how we got here. Together they wonder about grief, parenting, elderhood, me-first culture and conspiracies in times of crisis. Stephen places emphasis on how relationship to history informs our present circumstance and meaning making. What do we gain by normalizing times such as these? Where does health come from? How do we reckon with our me-first world in a time so desperate for community and culture? What You'll Hear --Plague is not an easy thing to normalize, 1919 is the last time --Spirit work is a response to troubles of the times, not freedom from the troubles of the times --How wisdom is distinguished from prejudice --Our spirit work is our response to the world, not our feeling tone about the world --A puritan about your own fundamentalism --The last thing a conspiracy theorist does is imagine that their conspiracy is conspiratorial --Mania of challenging everything rarely gets challenged --Culture orchestrated around appealing to and buying and selling to 17 year olds- inherited from the 60s --What do our kids do with what we've given to them --Etymology of the word Fate- from the Latin word from the verb “to speak” What the Gods had said.” --Now that the Gods have spoken, what shall you do- what are the obligations? --Origin of the concept of “bucket list” --Skillfulness or ability to be good, “good” is not a temperature of your character or indwelling possession --Where does your health come from? --What happens if we imagine that the differences between us are problems to solve? --You are incapable of generating the meaning of your life --The meaning of your life is assembled when you die, what a village minded person owns their neighbors --You don't get to know your legacy, it's not yours, it's the consequence of your death --Your act of dying is your last act of citizenship --The word “therapeo” to cure, you require a malady --Preoccupation with self is the principle malady of the times --What's the source of the enthronement of the self and social media --Elderhood as a check-and-balance on the regime of self-absorption --What will happen if you don't know how to die? --Death as a great act of humanity and its fullest incarnation or an insult to humanity --Willingness to work is a casualty of the “me first” movement --The moral quandary of having children --Inclusivity is a blowing apart of the capacity to distinguish, inclusivity shames discernment --Culture work versus personal work --Dominant culture of North American founded by flight risks, people on the run, casualties --"The world" doesn't exist, place does Resources Website: www.orphanwisdom.com

Take a few, deep breaths and then get curious about why you feel that way.Being curious isn't going to solve all your problems. However, being curious is great for your state of mind and for the humility and self-awareness that comes into play - especially when you are truly open-minded and genuinely curious to learn and improve your skillfulness.Instead of making excuses, seek to be curious instead.Sharpening the saw is how you refine your skills to become more effective and efficient at cutting that block of wood. Not knowing something — your ignorance — may allow you to ask the kinds of questions no one else has ever considered. What is your single biggest struggle? If you're a deep-thinker, a creative, or if you're struggling with how to make a difference, especially during these COVID-19 times, this session will engage your curiosity. I'm offering free exploration sessions to help you get clarity, focus, and direction that you can immediately use to enjoy more freedom, peace of mind, and impact.☞ Click here to request an Exploration Session with Darren.

Say It Skillfully® helps you to benefit from Molly Tschang's expert guidance on the best possible ways to speak your mind at work in a positive and productive manner. In Episode 13, Molly's 1st caller, Gary, disappointed by a friend letting him down, asked how to handle this. Nancy, typically the caregiver for everyone else when times are tough, inquired about how to give herself space to grieve over the passing of a friend as others count on her. And Matt raised his challenge of influencing management to support him in a new role, when he's viewed as essential to his current one. Molly then offered a way to handle the “always on” colleague that Garry Ridge raised last week. She also addressed a question on how to respond to performance review input that you really don't agree with, and shared how SuperBowl MVP Pat Mahomes communicates skillfully. Tune in to the show for these topics and her conversations as you learn to navigate work while being invaluable and true to yourself.

This last episode of the Groundless Ground Season One features two consecutive dharma talks recently given by Lisa Dale Miller on the five aggregates—the main agent of mental and emotional suffering in the Buddha’s teachings on the Four Noble Truths. Lisa's first talk deconstructs the illusory ‘heap’ nature of the five aggregates and explicates their pivotal role in both creating and/or liberating us from suffering. The second talk dives deeply into the relationship of the five aggregates to Theravāda teachings on what the Buddha called, deathless or deathlessness, and then tracks this term’s evolution into profound Mahāyāna and Vajrayana teachings on emptiness and buddhanature. Best wishes for a joyful holiday season and may all beings enjoy a peaceful, healthy, happy New Year! 3 STEPS TO MASTERY #167: Daily Mentoring with Trevor Crane on GreatnessQuest.com SUMMARY Want to be a better leader? Entrepreneur? Coach? Consultant? Husband? Wife? Friend? Other? Tony Robbins has a beautiful way of describing the “steps” to Mastery. I attended my first seminar with Tony Robbins in September of 2002. In short, Tony changed my life. All areas. Well, he helped "me” change my life. I can’t properly describe how grateful I am for that gift. I even met my wife at one of his events. Here is a little formula he taught me about Mastery. I have found it to have profound value. GET THE APP: Text: TREVOR To: 36260 #greatnessquest #trevorcrane #unstoppable #idealbusiness #ideallife

We are witnessing the most polarizing politics in modern American History. Should Bodhisattvas (Spiritual Warriors) become involved in the political arena as a method of helping everyone attain the requisites of a spiritual life? My answer to this question is "Yes." When we enter into the political discussion with Wisdom and Skillfulness, we are not dirtying our hands in a messy, mundane world that we should abandon, we are staying true to our intention of shedding light in the darkened corners of our world guiding everyone to the true and lasting happiness found on the spiritual path. Don't just be angry or worried, do something with that anger and fear - ENGAGE! (Recorded March 19, 2016)
In this podcast Professor Thurman shares insights on the concepts of virtue, beauty and skillfulness in Tibetan Buddhism. We think of virtue as beautiful and associate the good with light and brightness. By drawing from the etymology of the Tibetan word “virtuous”, Professor Thurman shows how virtue also includes aspects of beauty and skillfulness. He goes on to analyze the evolutionary cause of beauty, and how we can define creativity in Tibetan Buddhism.
