Dale Earnhardt Jr. spends a little extra time with his Amazon Prime broadcast booth partners Adam Alexander and Steve Letarte on this week's episode of the Dale Jr. Download. After an adventurous trip to Mexico City this past weekend, the three had a lot of notes to compare on their respective experiences. The guys marveled at the state of the art Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez facility and how the stadium section provided a unique, grandiose feeling to the race weekend. They also share stories about working with their producers and how gratifying it is to receive positive feedback throughout a production for their racing insight. The three discuss how intimidating a television compound can be and how comforting it is that so many members of the NBC crew were part of the Prime productions. They also look forward to their upcoming time on TNT and anticipate what will be different when the move is made back to a network as opposed to streaming. The conversation takes a look at the Playoffs picture and how its changed with Shane Van Gisbergen's Mexico City victory, as well as the ongoing RIcky Stenhouse/Carson Hocevar feud. They also answer questions in an “Ask The Booth” segment, sharing what their go-to booth snacks are, thoughts on the In-Season Tournament & the funniest moment that has happened to them on air this season. In this episode of the Mastering Rod Building Podcast, host Bill Falconer is joined by veteran custom rod builder and retired mechanical engineer Mick Danek. With 69 years of rod building experience and six patents from his automotive career, Danek brings a unique perspective to the science of blank performance. The conversation focuses on True Natural Frequency (TNF)—a dynamic measurement of a rod's recovery speed from deflection. Unlike the Common Sense System (CCS), which offers static measurements, TNF gives builders an objective method to evaluate rod performance and sensitivity. Bill and Mick explain how TNF can be measured at home with a smartphone app and explore related topics like flatline oscillation, stiffness-to-weight ratio, and how these factors influence casting accuracy and feel on the water.Whether you're an experienced builder or just getting started, this episode offers valuable insights into how engineering principles can elevate your custom rod designs.

If you need to hire 1 person, hire a team of people, or transform your business through Talent or Technical Services, Insight Global's team of 30,000 people around the world have the hustle and grit to deliver. www.InsightGlobal.com/LearningLeader Kirk Herbstreit is the voice of college football. A former Centerville High School and Ohio State University Quarterback, Kirk has been the lead Analyst for ESPN's College Gameday since 1996. He calls the biggest games in college football on Saturday nights, and he broadcasts the college National Championship. Beyond college football, Kirk is also the lead analyst for Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video. Kirk has been nominated for 19 Sports Emmy Awards and has won 5 times. This conversation was recorded in front of about 300 people in Centerville, Ohio. Kirk's dog Peter was with us on stage when he wasn't wandering around in the audience. Kirk's emotional moment after Ohio State's national championship was about his authentic connection to Coach Day, his son (who was on the team), and all the players. "I try so hard to be impartial. I try so hard to be just objective and fair. It's almost like the culmination of just a release." Showing authentic emotion and humanity makes leaders more relatable and trustworthy, not weaker. Bob Gregg and Ron Ullery's impact: "They didn't tear your knees out, but they just made sure as a 16, 17, 18-year-old that you knew this ain't about you. It's about us." This foundation created a work ethic that translates across all of life. The most prepared broadcaster in the world - "When I started in 1996 on college game day, unless you were a Big 10 fan, you had no idea who I was. So my idea of trying to build my brand was they're gonna know me from my work ethic." "They're gonna know me from my work ethic. They're gonna know me like, damn, I don't know who that dude is, but he seems to know what he's talking about." "I prepare a hundred percent, and I use 20% for all three shows." Over-preparation creates confidence and the ability to handle any direction conversations might go. When you're not the most naturally gifted, becoming the most prepared person in the room creates a competitive advantage. High School Football Builds Life Skills – "I'm such an advocate for high school football because of my own experience... It's about what these guys are doing... simple old school values, like hard work and perseverance and facing adversity." "I could choose to be embarrassed of who I was on national TV, or choose to have a bit of a chip on my shoulder. And I was kind of a chip on my shoulder guy my whole life." Feeling underestimated can fuel extraordinary preparation and performance when channeled constructively. Deal with Imposter Syndrome when he started broadcasting NFL games for Amazon on Thursday nights: "I didn't even go to an NFL camp, and here I am calling NFL Games as the expert game analyst. And so, and I'm working with freaking Al Michaels." "I don't deserve your respect in my brain until I earn it." College Football's Current Crisis – "The players went from our era. You had no say to now they have all to say... It's like the world is upside down right now when it comes to that aspect of it." "Who fixes it? The NCAA doesn't fix it... No one's worried about the global view of the sport. They're worried about their region... who's in charge? No one's the boss." "They're great players, but they're a dime a dozen. Like you're on a conveyor belt as a player. There's other players coming right behind you." Kirk supports true name, image, likeness marketing but opposes pay-for-play: "I am a fan of, if Jeremiah Smith becomes Jeremiah Smith after he gets there... if he can make money in marketing... But not, a guy is over at Bowling Green... and LSU needs a left guard and they're just like, Hey, how much does it take?" "These coaches are a little bit hesitant on how hard they're gonna be on these guys because they don't wanna believe. Imagine being a coach and you're worried about, is this guy gonna leave if I really do what I want to do with him?" Mental Health Through Faith – "For me, it's my faith... daily devotional prayer and really trying to connect helps me... having very honest conversation with family and friends and opening up." The Value of Chosen Hardship – My perspective: "I think you gotta keep doing that stuff... choose to do really hard things every day to prove to myself that I can keep doing hard things so that when adversity strikes, I'm prepared." Generational Empathy – "This generation, I can't imagine going through what they go through, whether it's Snapchat and middle school... just everybody being in your business and everything online." The Lee Corso Legacy – "He was hot takes before we knew what Hot Takes were... our relationship really changed was off air... he was a really good listener... like Yoda or like Don Corleone." The best mentoring relationships evolve from one-directional learning to mutual care and support. The Lunatic Fringe - "There's 90% of Ohio State fans that whether they win or they lose, they're proud of 'em... every fan base has that 10% that we're all embarrassed of."

Send us a textIs chronic neuroinflammation the silent driver behind modern brain diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Long COVID, and mood disorders? In this eye-opening episode, Dr. Brandon Crawford speaks with Cuong Do, the CEO of BioVie Pharmaceuticals, who came out of retirement to tackle the growing challenge of neurodegenerative diseases. They delve into the intricate science of TNF-alpha, explore the concept of insulin resistance within the brain, and discuss the potential of next-generation neurodrugs, such as BioVie's Bezisterem, to not only alleviate symptoms but potentially alter the trajectory of aging itself. Join them as they unpack the significance of ongoing clinical trials, the implications of biological clocks and mitochondrial health, and the often-overlooked connections between inflammation and crucial aspects of health, including cognition, hormones, longevity, and even autism.Key TakeawaysMany chronic conditions, including neurodevelopmental disorders and autoimmune diseases, may stem from fundamental light signaling failures at the cellular level. In Alzheimer's disease, TNF-alpha drives the production of amyloid precursor protein (APP) and the phosphorylation of tau, contributing to amyloid plaques and tau tangles, though these may be downstream effects of inflammation.Emerging research links the brain fog, fatigue, and malaise associated with Long COVID to inflammatory mechanisms that BioVie's drug candidate, Bezisterem, aims to modulate.Pre-clinical studies of Bezisterem in Parkinson's models showed it to be as effective as Levodopa in restoring muscle control and demonstrated a synergistic effect when used in combination.Bezisterem is a small molecule that readily crosses the blood-brain barrier and has shown a long half-life, potentially offering benefits for Parkinson's patients experiencing "off" states in the morning.BioVie is actively monitoring biomarkers of neurodegeneration, such as GFAP and neurofilament light (NFL), in their clinical trials and has observed a disruption in the typical correlation between disease progression and these markers in the treatment arm.ResourcesBioVie Pharmaceuticals: biovpharma.comClinical Trials Info: https://www.bioviepharma.com/clinical-trialsProducts 528 Innovations Lasers NeuroSolution Full Spectrum CBD NeuroSolution Broad Spectrum CBD NeuroSolution StimPod Learn MoreFor more information, resources, and podcast episodes, visit https://tinyurl.com/3ppwdfpm

On May 14, 2025, Great American Ball Park hosted Pete Rose Night, a vibrant tribute to Cincinnati Reds legend Pete Rose, following his posthumous reinstatement by MLB. Over 43,500 fans filled the sold-out stadium, creating an electric atmosphere to honor the all-time hits leader. The event, marked by a special 7:14 p.m. start time and gates opening at 5:44 p.m., celebrated Rose's legacy with a bronze statue unveiling and a banner display. Fans received commemorative items, and the mood was festive, described as a “massive party” that many hope becomes a tradition. Despite the Reds' 4-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox, the night was a heartfelt celebration of Rose's contributions to baseball and Cincinnati. Social media reflected mixed sentiments: some fans hailed Rose as a hero, while others criticized honoring him due to his past gambling controversy. The event underscored Rose's complex legacy—his undeniable on-field brilliance and off-field controversies. For Reds Country, it was a moment of unity and reflection, celebrating a local icon whose story continues to spark debate. The Cincinnati Bengals' 2025 schedule release on May 14, 2025, sparked excitement and analysis among fans and analysts. The season kicks off with a Week 1 road game against Cleveland at 1 p.m. EST, a chance to avenge a 2023 loss. The schedule features tough stretches, including four of the first six games on the road and a challenging NFC North run that could define the season. A favorable midseason stretch includes three straight home games before the bye week, offering a chance to build momentum. Key matchups include a Monday Night Football game at Denver in Week 4, a Thursday Night Football clash with Pittsburgh in Week 7, and two critical games against Baltimore over three weeks. Fans noted the lack of primetime home games, reflecting perceived league oversight. The season closes with two home games, emphasizing health and rest. Analysts predict a competitive season, with the Bengals facing a “war” in the AFC North. Social media buzz highlighted frustration with early road-heavy games but optimism for the home-heavy October stretch. The schedule sets the stage for a pivotal year for Cincinnati.

For clinicians in functional medicine, these cases are all too familiar. While antibiotics, herbal medicines, biofilm disruptors, and immune support are key in managing Lyme disease, restoring quality sleep is just as essential. Without sleep, healing stalls. It is during deep sleep that glymphatic clearance occurs, immune cells regenerate, and the nervous system resets. Herbal solutions can help patients with Lyme-related insomnia achieve deep, restorative sleep. This article explores how Lyme disrupts sleep physiology and how Moss Nutrition's new Sleep Select Herbal—a blend of saffron, valerian, American skullcap, passionflower, and Ziziphus spinosa—can help restore calm and rest. These botanicals are supported by clinical trials and tailored to address the unique neuroimmune dysregulation seen in Lyme disease. The Limits of Conventional Sleep Aids Many Lyme patients are prescribed benzodiazepines, sedative antihistamines, or off-label antidepressants for insomnia. While these may offer temporary relief, they rarely address root causes. Over time, they can disrupt sleep architecture, desensitize GABA receptors, and create dependency or withdrawal problems. By contrast, botanical nervines and adaptogens support endogenous pathways—enhancing GABA, modulating cortisol, and recalibrating circadian rhythm—without suppressing natural neurotransmission. This is the core strategy behind Sleep Select Herbal. How Lyme Disease Disrupts Sleep and Creates Nervous Tension 1. Neuroinflammation and Cytokine Overload Borrelia and its coinfections invade the central nervous system, triggering microglial activation and the release of inflammatory cytokines like IL-6, TNF-alpha, and IL-1β. These cytokines interfere with the function of sleep-promoting areas in the brain, such as the hypothalamus and suprachiasmatic nucleus. Impact: Reduced sleep drive, disrupted circadian signaling, and altered neurotransmitter synthesis. 2. Cortisol Dysregulation and HPA Axis Dysfunction Patients with chronic Lyme disease often exhibit abnormal cortisol rhythms—typically low in the morning and elevated at night. This flipped curve perpetuates insomnia, often manifesting as nighttime awakenings or difficulty falling asleep. Impact: Low melatonin, nighttime anxiety, impaired parasympathetic tone, and reduced vagal tone. 3. GABA and Serotonin Imbalance Lyme disease inflammation can disrupt the synthesis and receptor sensitivity of GABA and serotonin—the primary calming neurotransmitters. This leads to hyperarousal, panic, and light, unrefreshing sleep. Impact: Reduced GABAergic tone increases muscle tension, rumination, and sympathetic dominance. Five Botanicals to Restore Sleep in Lyme Disease Each herb in Sleep Select Herbal addresses a distinct but overlapping mechanism contributing to insomnia and nervous tension. Clinically formulated Sleep Select Herbal supports deep, restorative sleep for patients with Lyme-related insomnia and nervous tension. 1. Saffron (Crocus sativus) – The Circadian Calibrator In a 2021 double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 120 adults with poor sleep, saffron (affron®) at 14–28 mg improved sleep quality, reduced insomnia severity, and increased evening melatonin levels without next-day sedation (Lopresti et al., 2021). Mechanisms: Increases nighttime melatonin Reduces evening cortisol Improves sleep onset and continuity Patient Profile: Individuals with delayed sleep phase, high evening cortisol, or mood disturbances upon waking. 2. Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) – The GABAergic Grounder Valerian root enhances GABA signaling by inhibiting its breakdown and modulating GABA-A receptors. A clinical trial showed valerian significantly improved total sleep time, reduced latency, and enhanced sleep efficiency (Shekhar et al., 2024). Mechanisms: Binds GABA-A receptors without habituation Reduces anxiety and muscle tension

From southern roots and Big Ten beginnings to becoming a leading voice at Amazon's Thursday Night Football and NBA broadcasts, Taylor opens up about her unconventional path, her calculated career risks, and the importance of saying yes to uncomfortable growth. She talks about walking away from comfort zones, mastering her craft as an interviewer, and carving out a space that's defined by preparation, not perception. The crew tackles everything from the myth of “pretty privilege” to the silent battle between NBA and NFL players, the power of storytelling in sports, and the toxic trends in how today's athletes are covered. Taylor challenges the culture of comparison, clout-chasing commentary, and narratives that never seem to die, even when they've long stopped being true.Taylor doesn't shy away from tough questions, about legacy, about criticism, and about being a Black woman constantly under the microscope. She also drops gems about what it means to be seen, respected, and understood on your own terms. Between the serious moments and the signature Underground Lounge laughs (including a run through the hilarious “F*** It Bucket”), this episode delivers insight, depth, and real energy. If you've ever wanted a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to shift culture, not just survive it—Taylor Rooks shows exactly how it's done.
In this Metabolic Classroom lecture, Dr. Ben Bikman explores the critical yet often overlooked role of fat tissue as an endocrine organ, not just a passive energy storage site.Fat secretes dozens of bioactive hormones, collectively called adipokines, that influence everything from appetite and insulin sensitivity to inflammation and cardiovascular risk. He focuses primarily on leptin, adiponectin, and PAI-1 (plasminogen activator inhibitor-1), detailing how each one affects whole-body metabolism and health.Leptin, produced by fat cells, signals the brain about the body's energy stores, affecting long-term appetite and fertility more than immediate satiety. Paradoxically, individuals with obesity often have high leptin levels but suffer from leptin resistance, leading to persistent hunger and metabolic dysfunction. In contrast, adiponectin levels decrease as fat mass increases. Adiponectin plays a powerful protective role by enhancing insulin sensitivity, reducing inflammation, and promoting fat metabolism, making it a key marker of good metabolic health.Ben also highlights PAI-1, a lesser-known adipokine secreted mainly by visceral fat, which inhibits the breakdown of blood clots, thereby raising cardiovascular disease risk. He further discusses other adipokines such as resistin, TNF-alpha, and angiotensinogen, which link excess fat mass to insulin resistance, inflammation, and hypertension. Finally, he contrasts subcutaneous fat (more benign) with visceral fat (more harmful) and explains how brown fat offers unique metabolic benefits by promoting thermogenesis and thyroid hormone activation. The location and health of fat tissue matter just as much as its quantity.Show Notes/References:For complete show notes and references, we invite you to become a Ben Bikman Insider subscriber. Send us a textThis week we bring back our friend and friend of the show, Dr. Ashish S. Patel! Dr. Patel takes us on a global journey through the evolving landscape of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease treatment, revealing contrasts between approaches across continents and highlighting gaps in how new medications reach children. While adult IBD patients have benefited from an explosion of treatment options over the last two decades, children remain limited primarily to anti-TNF biologics as their only FDA-approved options. This forces physicians to fight insurance battles for access to newer medications or enroll patients in clinical trials that come years too late. "We have to bring evaluation of these medications to pediatrics concurrently with adult populations," Dr. Patel explains, sharing how advocacy efforts aim to shift this paradigm. The conversation takes a fascinating turn when comparing treatment philosophies worldwide. At the World Congress in Buenos Aires, nutritional therapy, probiotics, and dietary interventions dominated discussions—a striking contrast to North American conferences featuring pharmaceutical companies. This reveals how resource availability shapes medical approaches, with Latin American physicians developing expertise in nutritional interventions while North American practices focus on biologics.Dr. Patel's most hopeful insights come from current research aiming to personalize treatment based on a patient's unique profile. Studies collecting genetic information, microbiome data, and environmental exposures may eventually allow doctors to determine the optimal intervention—whether medication, diet modification, or environmental change—for each child at diagnosis. "In the near future, at least for certain types of IBD, we're talking about something that's curative rather than just therapeutic," he shares, offering hope that we're moving beyond symptom management toward addressing root causes.Join us for this eye-opening conversation that challenges conventional thinking about how we research, develop, and implement treatments for one of medicine's most complex childhood conditions.Links: ImproveCareNowNorth American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (NASPGHAN)Let's get social!!Follow us on Instagram!Follow us on Facebook!Follow us on Twitter!

Story at-a-glance Ginger has a long history of soothing digestive issues and modern research confirms its ability to reduce gut inflammation and support intestinal healing Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) increases the risk of serious health issues.IBDs like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fatigue, increasing the risk of malnutrition, intestinal damage, and colorectal cancer if left untreated A recent study found that furanodienone (FDN) in ginger activates the pregnane X receptor (PXR), which reduces gut inflammation and oxidative stress. It also strengthens the intestinal barrier to prevent harmful bacteria from entering the bloodstream Early use of ginger compounds leads to better outcomes, with reduced symptom severity and faster recovery in gut inflammation, especially when started at the first signs of digestive issues Another study found that gingerols and shogaols suppress immune overactivity, lowering IL-1β and TNF-α while blocking key inflammatory pathways that worsen chronic gut conditions
