Een lekkere zondag met Mathieu van der Poel die nog even een training van 40 kilometer op kop van het peloton deed in Tirreno Adriatico, Jonas Vingegaard die niet van Lenny Martinez afkwam in Parijs-Nice en Karlijn Swinkels die Nederland een klassiekerzege bezorgde in Trofeo Alfredo Binda. Niek Goedvolk bespreekt met Roxane Knetemann en wielerverslaggever Daniël Dwarswaard de koersen van vandaag en de afgelopen week. Van der Poel maakte indruk met twee geweldige ritzeges: is dit de beste versie die we ooit van hem hebben gezien? En hoe komt Tadej Pogacar straks in Milaan-San Remo van de Nederlander af? De Sloveen krijgt daarbij in ieder geval hulp van Isaac del Toro, winnaar van het eindklassement in de Tirreno. In Parijs-Nice zagen we een hele andere Jonas Vingegaard dan we gewend zijn. Heel gretig, haast amicaal en volop in de aanval. Waar zou die drang vandaan komen? En dan was er ook nog de misschien wel doorbraak van Swinkels. Zij bleef ijzig kalm met Anna van der Breggen in haar wiel en sprintte naar haar mooiste overwinning ooit. There has been an alarming amount of physical assault and middle fingers flying in the pro peloton lately. Last weekend, UCI race officials disqualified NSN Devo rider Kiaan Watts after he reached out and struck a competitor in the head mid-race. Just days later, British time trial champion Ethan Hayter earned himself a $645 fine and a docking of 25 UCI points for flashing his middle finger to a TV moto at 54 kilometers an hour during the Tirreno-Adriatico. Which begs the question: when was the last time you completely lost your cool mid-ride? In this week's episode, Mike, Lisa, and I share our own stories of frustration, adrenaline, and bad behavior. These are not stories any of us—well, maybe Mike—are particularly proud of, but it happens. Lisa details her dark fantasy involving spark plugs, and I pretend like I might actually have the courage to remove a mirror or two. Mike confesses to standing in an intersection in full Lycra and kinda, maybe, definitely threatening a driver. This past week was a massive week for road tech, and we had two incredibly different bikes to dissect. First up is the fourth-generation Giant Propel. Giant is making a massive aero claim of 18 watts saved. Is that even possible? I break down the fine print after cross-referencing three different press releases, and I talk about why I think it's actually quite likely—but also why you might not even need a new bike to take advantage of those 18 watts. The big news this week, though, is not about aero gains. I'm super excited to talk about the new Cannondale CAAD14 and why Cannondale is leading this launch with an apology. The latest model in this lineup is heavier than the last one, but that's not what the apology is about. There's also a showstopper brushed aluminum version, and we talk about why you can't buy it. Finally, we tackle a question from Velo editor Jim Cotton: When you are completely bonked, shivering, and staring blankly into a gas station aisle, what is your desperation snack of choice? Lisa has a jersey pocket recipe of marinated chicken nuggets that's either genius or offensive, while I rain on the parade with a more clinical eye for my choices. Youri waarschuwt dat dit een steeds problematischere vorm begint aan te nemen. Als dit in de klassiekers niet is opgelost, kan dat verdere gevolgen hebben.In Parijs-Nice zagen onze mannen de Nederlandse een goed vervolg geven aan een sterk Openingsweekend. Marijn van den Berg en Mike Teunissen loodsten hun sprinters Luke Lamperti en Max Kanter naar verrassende zeges, terwijl Daan Hoole - die helaas zijn pink brak -  en de broers Mick en Tim van Dijke ook indruk maakten. Nog een punt waarop Maxim en Youri elkaar vonden: het format van de ploegentijdrit in Parijs-Nice. Dat is een vat vol verhalen. Youri denkt dat Remco Evenepoel met dit format de gele trui in de openingsrit van de Tour amper kan ontgaan.De mannen zagen ook sterke optredens bij INEOS Grenadiers en roepen op om het extreme weather protocol in de toekomst te tunen per koers of koersmaand, zodat je excessen zoals de vierde rit in Parijs-Nice beter kunt bestrijden. Daarnaast kijken ze alvast vooruit naar Milaan-San Remo van volgend weekend aan de hand van data. Niek Goedvolk heeft het met Roxane Knetemann en wielerverslaggever Daniël Dwarswaard over het kunststukje van Mathieu van der Poel op het Italiaanse grind en de bijna stunt van Daan Hoole in de generale TTT-repetitie voor de Tour de France. We kunnen niet wachten tot Milaan-San Remo. Daar kruisen Van der Poel en Tadej Pogacar over anderhalve week namelijk voor het eerst dit seizoen de degens. Forhjulslir præsenteres i samarbejde med Continental Dæk Danmark. Continental er det mest vindende dæk i WorldTour-feltet, fra Tadej Pogačar i regnbuetrøjen til Isaac del Toro i ørkenen. Sikkerhed starter med dækket - både på motorvejen og cykelstien.  Issac del Toro stangede Remco Evenepoel i ørkenen. Juan Ayuso leverede og løftede Lidl-Trek øverst i Algarve og de to franske vidunderbørn, Paul & Paul, Seixas & Magnier, glimtede igen. Den spanske mester Ivan Romeo tog kommandoen i Andalusien - og Tom Pidcock fandt det helt rigtige punch frem mod åbningsweekenden. Terminsprøverne er taget. Nogle ryttere fik topkarakter og ro i maven inden Åbningsweekenden, Paris-Nice og Tirreno-Adriatico. Andre står tilbage med flere spørgsmål end svar.
