In een bomvolle koersweek leefden Dylan van Baarle en Wout Poels volledig langs elkaar heen en dus vertellen ze om de beurt over hun ervaringen in België, Frankrijk en Italië in deze nieuwe aflevering van In Koers. Van Baarle vertelt over de gekkigheden die hij om zich heen zag (van vallende renners en van een uitzonderlijke Mathieu van der Poel) terwijl hij vocht tegen de kou. Toen het eenmaal een beetje was opgeklaard, zag hij dat zijn eigen vorm ook veel zonniger is dan het in Omloop het Nieuwsblad leek. En ook Poels begint er al aardig in te komen. Ook hij startte stroef aan het weekend, maar werd vervolgens beter en beter. Waar Van Baarle inmiddels wéér op trainingskamp is, cold weather preparation dit keer, koerst Poels lekker door. Eigenlijk hadden we deze podcast moeten beginnen met de bekendste tune van de Lage Landen: "Ro-da-ni-aaaaaa! Tut-tut-tut-tuuuuut!", het deuntje waarmee de komst van het wielerpeloton wordt aangekondigd. Want in het eerste weekend van maart is niet alleen de MotoGP en de motorcross opnieuw van start gegaan, met de Omloop Het Nieuwsblad en Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne zijn ook de eerste wielerklassiekers in Vlaanderen gereden. Steevast van de partij: Kim Tiebergyn, als motorrijder.  Opgegroeid in een wielergekke familie werd Kim al snel een van de vaste motorrijders in de koers. Eerst als motard van de bekende Gentse wielerfotograaf Tim De Waele, intussen als motorrijder voor de televisie. Kim rijdt minstens honderd koersdagen per jaar en zit dus altijd en overal op de eerste rij als Pogacar of Van der Poel een aanval plaatsen. Motorrijden in de koers is echter zo veel meer dan 'gewoon' op de eerste rij zitten. Het is stuurmanskunst, de koers aanvoelen, samenwerken met je cameraman en zes uur aan een stuk in bijzonder complexe omstandigheden op en top gefocust zijn. Kim onderhoudt ons vijftig minuten met de sappigste verhalen uit de koers en mag afrondend ook een motor kiezen uit alle machines die we in de Motorrijder van maart getest hebben. Om te voorkomen dat Stefaan er helemaal voor spek en Tom Boonen bij zit laat hij zijn licht schijnen op de lastige start van de Yamaha's in de MotoGP en de bizarre lekke band van Marc Márquez. Want lekke banden, die komen zowel in de racerij als de wielersport voor. Uiteraard is Tadej Pogačar de te kloppen man, maar met Tom Pidcock en de piepjonge Paul Seixas - van wie er een uitgebreid profiel te horen is in deze aflevering - zijn er wel een aantal uitdagers die het hem lastig kunnen maken. Mathieu van der Poel schiet direct raak bij zijn debuut in Omloop het Nieuwsblad, maar misschien blijft zijn ongelofelijke uitwijkmanoeuvre van vandaag nog wel het meest bij. Hoe hij het doet weet niemand, maar MVDP blijft op miraculeuze overeind na een valpartij van landgenoot Rick Pluimers. In een nieuwe aflevering van In Het Wiel raken Niek Goedvolk en Roxane Knetemann niet uitgepraat over de actie, wat meteen het beslissende moment in koers bleek. Maar waarom bleef Florian Vermeersch toch steeds overnemen, om er later op de Muur kansloos afgereden te worden? Tim van Dijke pakte het iets slimmer aan, terwijl zijn ploeg Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe sowieso heel goed voor de dag kwam. Is dat nu al het Roxane Knetemann-effect? Voor veel wielerliefhebbers gaat het seizoen komend weekend écht beginnen in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, gevolgd door Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne (mannen) en Omloop van het Hageland (vrouwen) en meteen ook de Ename Samyn Classic voor vrouwen en mannen. In de WielerFlits Podcast blikken we uitgebreid vooruit op de eerste twee koersen, zondagavond doen we dat op Le Samyn!Eerder deze winter werd al duidelijk dat Tadej Pogacar bezig is aan het grote afvinken op zijn erelijst en inmiddels is duidelijk dat Mathieu van der Poel daar ook aan begint. Hij debuteert zaterdag in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. En dat is niet om mee te doen, stippen hoofdredacteur Maxim en verslaggever Youri aan. Als Van der Poel ergens aan de start verschijnt, is dat om te winnen. Dat zal nu niet anders zijn. Wel verwacht met name Youri dat de deelname van MVDP de koers definitief zal veranderen. Dat terwijl er met Tom Pidcock en Tim Wellens meer sterke aanvallers in vorm zijn, die bij hun teams niet een topsprinter aan boord hebben waarvoor het de moeite waard is om mee te achtervolgen.Een dag later in Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne staat echter wel een sprint in de sterren geschreven. Bij de vrouwenwedstrijden dit weekend zien we een heel andere dynamiek. Omloop Het Nieuwsblad werd vorig jaar een farce; aan FDJ United-SUEZ (Demi Vollering, Juliette Berthet en Elise Chabbey) en SD Worx-ProTime (Lorena Wiebes, Lotte Kopecky, Mischa Bredewold en Anna van der Breggen) de opdracht om nu de koers wél te animeren. Een dag later in Omloop van het Hageland kan de koers net als in Omloop ook twee kanten op. We gaan weer koersen! Omloop Het Nieuwsblad staat voor de deur en dus gaat het wielervoorjaar eindelijk écht beginnen. Hij heeft zijn training in Spanje afgebroken en is met de privéjet naar België gekomen om zijn debuut te maken in de eerste race op de klassiekerkalender. Hoe gaat zijn deelname de koers beïnvloeden? Forhjulslir præsenteres i samarbejde med Continental Dæk Danmark. Continental er det mest vindende dæk i WorldTour-feltet, fra Tadej Pogačar i regnbuetrøjen til Isaac del Toro i ørkenen. Sikkerhed starter med dækket - både på motorvejen og cykelstien.  Issac del Toro stangede Remco Evenepoel i ørkenen. Juan Ayuso leverede og løftede Lidl-Trek øverst i Algarve og de to franske vidunderbørn, Paul & Paul, Seixas & Magnier, glimtede igen. Den spanske mester Ivan Romeo tog kommandoen i Andalusien - og Tom Pidcock fandt det helt rigtige punch frem mod åbningsweekenden. Terminsprøverne er taget. Nogle ryttere fik topkarakter og ro i maven inden Åbningsweekenden, Paris-Nice og Tirreno-Adriatico. Andre står tilbage med flere spørgsmål end svar. Het is de opmaat naar Omloop Het Nieuwsblad en Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne volgende week, maar de aanlooproute is voor veel factoren in de wielersport niet vlekkeloos. Het Noorse software bedrijf Visma kan namelijk niet mee in de wens van Richard Plugge om zijn budget (fors) te vergroten. Collega Raymond bracht dat nieuws naar buiten en duidt de zoektocht in gesprek met hoofdredacteur Maxim en verslaggever Youri. De gedachte dat de terugkeer van Rabobank vorige zomer een opstap is naar het hoofdsponsorschap, is geen sinecure. Moeten de fans zich zorgen maken?Ook maken we een eerste, voorzichtige balans op van de eerste vier à vijf weken koers van 2026. Zwitsers kampioen Mauro Schmid is tot dusver dé man van het vroege voorjaar. De renner van Jayco AlUla was in Australië en Oman enorm op dreef met meerdere zege en benadert nu al zijn beste seizoen uit zijn carrière ooit. Op de Current Overall Ranking van Cyclingflash (dat laat zien hoe goed een renner in vorm is) steeg Schmid de laatste maand liefst 152 plekken. Hij is niet de enige renner die onze mannen is opgevallen. Luister snel welke renners nog meer indruk maakten.Ook blikken we voorzichtig vooruit op de eerste wedstrijden van het klassieke voorjaar. Tiesj Benoot mist door een hernia alle koersen en er zijn meer vraagtekens. Hoe verloopt het herstel van Mads Pedersen? Weten we al of Mathieu van der Poel start in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad? En welke parcoursen zijn veranderd? Kleine spoiler: kijk vooral uit naar de Ename Samyn Classic, de dinsdag ná het Openingsweekend. De mondiale sportwereld staat deze weken in het teken van de Olympische Winterspelen. Bijna werd er donderdagavond een ‘wielermedaille' gewonnen door de Belgische Sandrine Tas op de 5000 meter schaatsen voor vrouwen tijdens de gouden avond van Xandra Velzeboer en Jens van 't Wout. In de WielerFlits Podcast zwengelen we opnieuw de discussie aan of veldrijden in 2030 óók op de Winterspelen moet plaatsvinden.Maar het ging vooral over de onrust bij Visma | Lease a Bike. With old grudges and new rivalries playing out on the gravel roads of Tuscany, Strade Bianche offered up plenty to talk about in this month's episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin. Rose Manley and Denny Gray are joined by cycling broadcaster Rebecca Charlton to discuss all the juicy details, plus they look ahead to the return of Milan-Sanremo with a mini-feature about the race's predecessor, the Primavera Rosa. Ever since Demi Vollering's move to FDJ-Suez and Anna Van der Breggen announced her return to the peloton last year, anticipation of a fierce rivalry between the pair has been rising. After Strade Bianche and their first meeting at Setmana Valenciana, it is fair to say that the match-up has already more than exceeded expectations. Van der Breggen has proven to be the only rider in the peloton capable of matching Vollering for power and tactical nous, although Vollering has thus far always come away with the spoils. Strade Bianche also saw former world champion Pauline Ferrand-Prevot take third place, in her first spring Classic since 2018. Plus the race was a welcome showcase for the top riders in the peloton after something of a stalemate at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad which saw a surprise victory for Lotte Claes.  In anticipation of the inaugural Milano-Sanremo Donne, we take a look back at the race's precursor – the Primavera Rosa – which ran for seven editions from 1999 until 2005. Some of the Velo team is in the midst of gearing up for a field test, where we're testing all-road bikes and comparing them against a traditional racey road bike and a gravel bike. Between all the testing and riding we're doing, it's got us wondering what the heck is an all-road bike, anyway? Yeah, yeah, all-road bikes are supposed to bridge the gap between the race road bikes and the performance gravel bikes. They tend to offer more upright body positioning, handling that skews toward safe rather than agile, and often include some sort of feature that promises to dampen road vibrations. But where did the all-road name even come from? How did we lose the phrase 'endurance road bike' along the way? And perhaps most importantly, is a gravel bike the right bike if you're looking for an all-road bike? The peloton opened up Classics season with Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday and Omloop van het Hageland on Sunday, but the opening race left many pondering the new dynamics of the peloton, and how much impact offseason transfers (both in the peloton and in the cars) had on the race tactics.Then, on Sunday, Anna van der Breggen had us feeling like we'd hopped in a time machine. Welcome back to Spin Cycle! We kick things off by diving headfirst into the opening weekend of the classics: Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne.First up, Omloop. What a weird day of racing, especially from the women's peloton. How and why did FDJ and SD Worx let the break get 15 minutes? It was a game of chicken where everyone ended up as a chicken. In the men's race, the surprise came in the finale as small groups came back together, which they don't usually do, resulting in a bigger bunch sprint than we've seen in years. At least a lovely old lady got her Arnaud de Lie moment. At Kuurne, Kaden Groves got a yellow card and Jasper Philipsen was fastest. Is Caley's Jonathan Milan draft pick already looking foolish? At Tour du Rwanda, the final stage was cancelled due to bad conditions. Not a great sign ahead of the planned World Championships later this year.Finally, we like to end the show on a high note, so last up is the news that the 2027 Tour de France might start in the UK. Jonny is ecstatic.
