Net niet voor Olav Kooij in de elfde etappe van de Tour. De Nederlander reed de snelste sprint, maar won niet. Hij werd tweede achter Søren Waerenskjold, die het peloton verraste door heel vroeg aan te gaan. De Noor zag een gat, dook erin en knalde naar de ritzege. Stage 1 of the 2026 Tour de France delivered chaos from the very start in Barcelona, with a fast and technical 19.6km team time trial that opened the race right up. It was complete carnage for INEOS. A puncture for Kévin Vauquelin, Egan Bernal and Thymen Arensman both dropped, and Filippo Ganna left to finish the stage completely alone after riding away from his own teammates. Despite setting a time 30 seconds faster than Mathieu van der Poel, it still wasn't enough for the win. The shock came from Visma. After questions over their team time trial strength coming in without Wout Van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard and his team delivered a huge statement ride to take Stage 1 - with Vingegaard beating Ganna by 7 seconds to claim the first yellow jersey.  In this week's episode, we question whether the Specialized Tarmac SL9 is a true upgrade or just an iPhone-style micro-update, look at the shrinking footprint of Eurobike, and talk Tour de France storylines. Show Notes: This week is a big one for me. Logan is out doing the Tour de France thing, and Mike is nursing his wounds somewhere. That leaves just myself and Lisa Charlebois running the studio, which means after all this time, this is officially my first time hosting the podcast. Of course we have to talk about the Tour, so that is where we start. Charlebois is the one who knows the most about the ins and outs of the riders, so I ask her to explain some of what we should be looking for. She's all-in on the Paul Seixas hype train, wondering if the 19-year-old rookie can snag a stage win for Decathlon. Meanwhile, I ask about Tadej Pogačar and she tells me about potential inner drama over at UAE compared to the clear roles at Visma. Since the Tour is going to get plenty of coverage soon, we kept this light. Before we get into the real meat of the episode though, I have to talk about San Francisco and traffic. Charlebois spends her time riding there and, like everyone else in San Francisco, she seems happy to deal with cars. I take a minute to say I dislike Mt. Tam and we veer into some unexpected tips for riding in traffic. Next, we get into Eurobike. I just got back from Frankfurt, and the main takeaway is that the show is shrinking down to just a couple of halls. However, there were still talking points. Canyon showed up with a 3D-printed concept bike loaded with integrated cameras and a radar system that looks suspiciously like their next aero bike. I also break down a panel on women in cycling, discussing how the industry continues to overlook a demographic with massive spending power. Finally, we tackle the Specialized Tarmac SL9. Logan reviewed it on the site, but Charlebois and I dig into the reality of a bike that claims to be four watts faster but weighs and looks nearly identical to the last generation. We talk about the new "win fin" and whether consumers should be hyped about incremental micro-updates or if there is simply an expectation that the new model has to exist, much like the newest iPhone. Stage 20 of the Giro d'Italia 2026, and Jonas Vingegaard finished his race the only way he knows how. A fifth stage win. And with it, his name joins the smallest club in cycling - riders to have won all three Grand Tours. Giulio Ciccone wrapped up the mountains classification. Stage 18 of the Giro d'Italia 2026 and for the sprinters, the window is almost shut. Polti VisitMalta went on the attack again in the break. Eulalio crashed and then lit up the final climb, but Visma were composed, reeling the move in with ease. Then it came down to the sprint. Lidl-Trek were hellbent on delivering for Milan, but the positioning wasn't there. Stuyven and Magnier made it look straightforward, and before Milan could react, the door had closed. Visma weren't giving up control today. The break was kept on a tight leash, and when Decathlon took over with 35km to go, the race was about to explode. Piganzoli ripped the selection apart before Jonas even launched. Pellizzari was dropped early. Ciccone, frustrated after another miss in the break, sat up with 17km to go.
