This week, Donna and Orlando sat down with Todd Perkins to discuss his vision for Detroit's future. This episode is the fifth in a series of interviews with candidates in the race for Detroit's 76th mayor.Todd Perkins grew up in the North End, raised by parents who instilled in them the values of hard work, education, faith, and integrity. The home he lives in today was purchased by his great-grandparents nearly a century ago. As a proud graduate of The University of Detroit Jesuit High School, he credits them with instilling the mission of being “A man for others.”As the founder and owner of one of Detroit's largest Black-Owned law firms, The Perkins Law Group, he's dedicated his career - spanning three decades - to serving the city. In addition to his law firm, he founded and has continued to operate a sports management company representing athletes from their high school to and through their professional careers. Todd also leads a nonprofit organization, The People's Voice, dedicated to giving back to Detroiters. This week we went to the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Halethorpe, Maryland. We met up with Todd Perkins and Sean Brennan for what is on the horizon with Guinness in Baltimore. We discussed their recent announcement that they would be moving the production of Guinness Blonde to another facility; however, the innovation brewery, tap room and restaurant will all remain operational. Additionally, we got a preview of what they have planned for the their 5th anniversary and Octoberfest this year. Live from the Columbus Idea Foundry makerspace and incubator, I talk with Alex Bandar about protoyping products, neighborhoods, cities and the Idea Foundry itself. Alex Bandar is an engineer with a specialization in materials science and computer assisted design. In 2008, he founded the Columbus Idea Foundry, which has recently moved into a new and larger space, becoming the largest makerspace in the country. It is an anchor for the redevelopment of the Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus, and an important part of the Columbus entrepreneurial ecosystem.
