Today's guests make me rethink the saying “Don't meet your idols”. I'm joined by Tom Flynn and Mia Dean of Antler Family. Tom's extensive musical career features bands like Fang and Cornelius Asperger and the Bi-Curious Unicorns. Mia is operatically trained and spent time studying opera in Austria and Italy. She was a huge fan of Tom's music and jumped at the opportunity to play with one of her idols. But before all that, Tom reveals an early love of hard rock and prog before starting Fang, his roles with The Melvins, and selling his leftover shirts to a band with the same name. Mia tells how she decided to sing opera at the age of eighteen, how she started a punk rock venue/opera house, and meeting her husband/bandmate, Tom Dean. Antler Family's debut album came out early this year after a five year delay. It's like if Crazy Horse played punk rock. There are so many surprises in there! Tom and Mia reveal a few alternate band names and I reveal the Youtube typo that COMPLETELY changes the meaning of one of their songs. Pick up the album wherever you get music, except Amazon. Maybe try Bandcamp or midheaven.com if you like vinyl. Follow their socials @antler_family. Follow the show @PerformanceAnx. Slide us a coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. SwimSwam caught up with 2023 World Champion James Guy, who recently announced his departure from long-time training home Bath National Centre. Guy, not happy with his individual results since the Tokyo Olympics, decided a change in stimuli was what would be best for his career. This has taken him back to his old stomping grounds of Millfield, although the people around him are very different. He will be under the guidance of performance coach Ryan Livingstone and Director of Swimming Euan Dale, whereas at his last stint in Millfield he was training with Jol Finck. Millfield is also the (relatively) new home of Matt Richards, who won gold in the 200 free and teamed with Guy, Tom Dean, and Duncan Scott to win gold in the 800 free relay at the 2023 World Championships. Guy expresses his gratitude for his time at Bath and excitement for what is to come during his time in Millfield. He also gives his perspective on his recent engagement and best friend Adam Peaty's renewed outlook on swimming.
Join us as we go LIVE on pool deck at the 2023 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, with World Aquatics commentator and Off The Blocks favourite Bobby Hurley. Bobby gives us his thoughts immediately following night 3 of finals which saw some phenomenal racing. An upset in the men's 200 free with Romanian star David Popovici missing the medals as England go 1-2 with Matt Richards and Tom Dean. Katie Ledecky dominates her 5th 1500m World championship And Kaylee McKeown get redemption in the 100m Backstroke winning Gold for Australia in a Championships Record We also look back on the amazing night that was Night 1, where we saw the emergence of an Aussie Star in Sam Short winning a closely fought 400m Freestyle beating out Haffnoui. Ariarne Titmus dominates what was meant to be the race of the century and became a race of Ariarne and the world record as she reclaimed the world record and her status ontop of the mountain in the 400m. Leon Marchand's historic 400m IM, claiming the oldest standing world record of Michael Phelps and doing it with MP watching on pool deck. and of course the Men's and Women's 4x100 Freestyle relays winning Gold, and the girls doing it in another World record time. Don't miss this great recap, with the man on deck in Fukuoka killing it on commentary, Bobby Hurley
We're almost at the key meet of 2023 as the competition at the World Championships in Fukuoka loom large. This week on the Propulsion Swimming Podcast, we review last week's British Swimming Championship 2023 in Ponds Forge, Sheffield, as well as give our initial thoughts on the 29 British Swimmer selected to race at this summer's World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. We discuss swimmers of the meet like Freya Colbert, Matt Richards and Ollie Morgan alongside the household names of Tom Dean, Duncan Scott and Abbie Wood.
No one has ever repeated as Olympic champion in the 200 free. Will Tom Dean be the first? Even if Ariarne Titmus defends her title, the men's 200 final happens before the women's. To accomplish a feat not even the likes of greats like Ian Thorpe, Katie Ledecky, nor Michael Phelps has done, Tom Dean will need to fend off some serious challengers like super phenom David Popovici, the current 100 meter freestyle world record holder, and British countryman Duncan Scott, among many others. But swimming fast in an Olympic final is something few people know how to do, and Tom Dean has proven he is one of those people, so you better believe that come 200 freestyle day in Paris, we'll order up some Bangers & Mash and have a few pints to cheer on this jolly good fellow. Until then, we'll keep up with him on his podcast, The Weekly Freestyle. Cheerio. (They do say that, right?) Enjoy!

The 17 year old Siskos is improving rapidly. He's down another 2 seconds since Euros last year. Adam Peaty, the double Olympic champion, kicked off his season with 27.10 in the 50m breaststroke and 59.57 in the 100m breaststroke at the 2023 Southport Olympic Preparation Meet in Australia. A few Brits have been training in Australia, avoiding the rain and 38 degree weather back home. The 200 Free Olympic Champ, Tom Dean, went a spicy 1:46.33. There was a two day meet in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Logan Fontaine went 15:10 in the 1500. Maxime Grousset went 22.3/49.1 in the Frees and 23.3/52.0 in the Flies. French backstroker and European Champion, Yohann Ndoye-Brouard, fractured his elbow on December 27th while skiing. He has been out of the water for 6 weeks. Leon Marchand continues to tear short course yards swimming a new rear-end. Over the weekend he went 4:07 in the 500 Free in a dual meet. He also dropped a 44.7 100 Back — also good for the #1 time this year. Leon is now the fastest swimmer in the NCAA in 7 different events. BTW, in front of a full crowd, Arizona didn't win a single swimming event vs. Arizona State. OuChhhhhh. Last but not least, Kate Douglass of UVA broke her own NCAA record in the 200 Breast during a time trial that the NCAA won't recognize. But, 2:01.43 is still ridiculous and the new American Record.

Autor și voce: Andreea GiucleaMontaj: Ana Maria CiobanuFoto: Matei BuțăMuzica: Podignton Bear- Vibe Drive ★ Support this podcast ★

It was a tremendously exciting week of racing in Birmingham at the Commonwealth Games, which generated a fantastic atmosphere in the sparkly new Sandwell Aquatic centre. It was as usual a display of Australian strength in the pool but the home nations acquitted themselves well. On this review podcast, Steve and Katie consider events in the pool from the dominance of Ben Proud to the extensive medal winning exploits of Tom Dean, the finest farewell that Ross Murdoch could have wished for and much more. Also on the agenda was the Australian women's fearsome freestyle contingent, the Kyle Chalmers media storm, and some bizarre medley relay goings on. --------------------- Get more Games memories here: Commonwealth Games Memories | pullbuoy Our London Roar Podcast episode with Kyle and Emma is here: London Roar Podcast Episode 11 – Emma McKeon and Kyle Chalmers | pullbuoy --------------------- Review, subscribe, share on Anchor, Apple, Google, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts --------------------- Connect on social: - Twitter @pullbuoy - Instagram @pullbuoyuk - Facebook @pullbuoyuk - YouTube

Julie Jones has left her suffocating marriage. Although it's on the wrong side of the tracks in Oceanside, California, she's hoping that her new house is the first step toward a new life with her teenage daughter, Jess. However, the previous owners have left something—or rather someone—behind… Tom Dean has a seething hatred for the father who considers him a lost cause.
