If the atomic unit of content is usually a story, what happens when we redefine it to be a snippet or a single quote? That's what Mackenzie pondered, then implemented at UW-Eau Claire in preparation to launch their new website. In the process, she realized she had ready access to a treasure trove of content she could use to make quick videos, quotes, or add to emails. The results? Her team can produce meaningful content within hours instead of weeks, and the university is engaging with audiences it hadn't quite reached before.Guest Name: Mackenzie HuberGuest Social: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mackenzie-m-huber/Guest Bio: Mackenzie Huber is the Content Strategist for the office of Integrated Marketing and Communications at UW-Eau Claire in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Before joining the team at UWEC, she was the Associate Director of Digital Communications at Lawrence University. She is happiest during a brainstorming session with teammates, making lists on colorful sticky notes, or when she has an excuse to mind map a new idea. Currently engaged in her second full website rebuild, Huber is tired. When she's not working, Huber enjoys playing sand volleyball, eating soup, and hoarding books she'll never have time to read. - - - -Connect With Our Host:Dayana Kibildshttps://www.linkedin.com/in/dayanakibilds/About The Enrollify Podcast Network:Talking Tactics is a part of the Enrollify Podcast Network. For two programs this week, the number 25 is probably considered lucky. For many, it represents the bottom of a Top 25 ranking, but for those in the 25th slot ... it means they are ranked. St. John Fisher women's basketball hasn't been ranked since "Desperate Housewives," "Boston Legal," "The Shield," and "Fear Factor" where some of the most popular shows on television. The top movie was "Coach Carter." However, Coach Melissa Kuberka has gotten her Cardinals squad back into the rankings after a terrific start to the 2021-22 season. We talk to her about the team's success and how the rest of the season could shape up. For DeSales men's basketball, there were signs they were going to be good during the COVID season. Not all teams are able to duplicate that short-season success, but the Bulldogs are off to an undefeated start. Coach Scott Coval discusses just how good the team is and why we haven't seen the unit at it's very best. Plus, one can still break a backboard in today's game? DeSales found out it is possible. Plus, Yeshiva men's hoops is getting plenty of attention now that they have been ranked #1 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll the last few weeks. But do you really know the Macabees and their program? We talk to Gary Belsky who wrote an expose on the program for ESPN. It's a must read and a must listen to segment. And UW-Eau Claire Athletics have big plans for future Blugolds and DIII championships. Introducing the $107 million Sonnetag Center which includes a $70 million dollar gift. AD Dan Schumacher discusses the significant way UWEC could shift championships and even regional recruiting by 2024. Hoopsville broadcasts from the NABC Studio. The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire campus is often a hive of student activity. Eager (or over-caffeinated) students scurrying to classes, laid back scholars taking a frisbee break before lunch, or wheeled intellectuals crisscrossing the sidewalk to return home. This campus is also the place we call “home.” However, like any dwelling, there's a history that looms over the physical walls and doors. Get Lost with us as we dig into some of the history embedded in this hundred-year-old campus. (Episode does contain adult language.)

Dr. Jim Schmidt has been serving as Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire since 2013. Chancellor Jim, as he likes to be called, has slightly over 30 years of experience in academia and has seen what a lot of leaders did wrong, and right, when it came to those dreaded budget cuts. On today’s show, Chancellor Jim discusses how he was able to make some tough decisions within his university and how he ended up making his campus much more efficient with less money. Key Takeaways: [1:25] Who is Chancellor Jim Schmidt and how did he get started in his career? [2:05] Of the 30 years Chancellor Jim has worked in academia, he had to cut the budget 26 times. [3:05] Across-the-board cuts are for lazy administrators. It’s viewed as ‘fair,’ but it really isn’t. [4:35] When it comes to budget cuts, how does Chancellor Jim approach this? [10:45] Remember, you’re only as effective as your people and if your people are worried about their job security, things aren’t going to get done as quickly. [11:50] How can you be transparent with your team when facing budget cuts? [14:25] Once your team is aware of the budget cuts, then you need to rally them towards a common goal and the university’s values. [20:35] When you’ve established what key areas are vital for your students/customers, then it’s time to get your team together to start brainstorming on the best course of action. [25:20] As a Chancellor, it’s Jim’s responsibility to give the students the best experience possible. If you make across-the-board budget cuts, their experience will suffer. [27:55] Chancellor Jim told his team to reject the notion that you gotta ‘do more with less.’ You can’t do that to your customers because then your quality will suffer. [34:00] Many of Chancellor Jim’s staff were willing to do more with less because they were used to that status quo. He had to tell them to stop because it will only lead to them being burned out. [35:30] The university has had four years’ worth of increased student enrollment despite making these budget cuts. [37:45] As a leader, you have to be open to having those tough conversations and you need to be available for your people. [39:05] Chancellor Jim does a quick recap. [41:40] What mistakes did Chancellor Jim make along the way that he wishes he did a bit differently? Mentioned in This Episode: Dynastylc.com Uwec.edu Jim on Twitter Call Jim: 715-836-2327 Email Jim: JSchmidt@uwec.edu
