Thanks to iFanboy Patrons, it's Talksplode time. We've got a bit of a homegrown hero on the show this time out, as Josh welcomes longtime iFanbase member, and up and coming comic book writer, Jordan Thomas to chat. Jordan came up by making original comics on Kickstarter, and lately publishing Weird Work through Image, Skin Police through Oni Press, and Mugshots and Flash Gordon from Mad Cave. He's everywhere, and now he's got to sit with us and talk about it. We go over what it takes to get published today, the many, many pitches that didn't get accepted and the determination it takes to get through that.   Total Running Time: 01:09:50 Music: “Spanish Bombs" The Clash   Learn more about your ad choices. No one knows and if they do, they aren't saying. Today, only the foundations, the stone chimneys and perhaps the ghosts remain. (Summerwind: The Most Haunted House In Wisconsin) *** A young woman discovers that it's possible to live a lonely life, yet still not be alone. (Followed By a Child) *** Is it possible that during the years of World War 1, Agnes Whiteland, while peering off her balcony, saw a group of time travelers? (Agnes And The Time Travelers) *** Tituba proved to be a fantastic orator as she talked her way out of slavery using the fear and mass hysteria of witchcraft that paralyzed the people of Salem. (Tituba And the Salem Witch Trials) *** The discovery of a 10-year-old's body at an ancient Roman site in Italy suggests his family, friends, and neighbors thought he was a vampire – and took measures to make sure he wouldn't return from the grave. (The Unearthing of a Child Vampire) *** Authorities placed Gil Perez in jail as a deserter and for the possibility that he may have been in the service of Satan. In Gil's defense though, he said he simply teleported somewhere else. (Teleportation of a Spanish Soldier) ***
Matthew Weeks was found guilty and hanged for the murder of Charlotte Dymond. Today it is said that the ghosts of both of them roam the countryside – but could it be that Matthew's ghost is lamenting because he was innocent of the crime? (The Murder of Charlotte Dymond on Bodmin Moor) *** A building situated right in the middle of London's swankiest and most historical areas, has long been said to be the lair of something not of this earth. (The Bizarre Nameless Thing of Berkley Square) *** “The Jungle Book” - we are all familiar with the story in some way – either from the classic animated Disney film version from 1967, the live action version in 2016, or the original novel by Rudyard Kipling published in 1894. In fact, yet another retelling of the story is coming in 2019 in a film entitled simply, “Mowgli”. But what many don't know is that the character of Mowgli was, in fact, inspired by a real boy who was raised by wild animals. (The Real Life Inspiration for Mowgli) *** Evil stepmothers, jealous of their stepdaughters' beauty are a classic tome in fantastical stories – but Martha Savcoll was no fairy tale. (Brooklyn Murderess) *** Of all the places in the world you would expect to be safe from the paranormal, it would be a church – but that would not be telling the truth when referring to Adams Grove Presbyterian Church in Alabama. (Haunted Adams Grove Presbyterian Church) *** Outside of Washington, D.C. lies Forest Haven Asylum, an abandoned institution with a thoroughly disturbing past. We talk all about the challenges of working odd hours, how to prioritize community when your schedule is different from your friends' schedules, and how to thrive in your community without overextending yourself. As always, we end with practical advice for all of you who work strange hours but desire to invest in your community. Enjoy!

Today we go into r/Relationships for a couple of posts asking for advice. In the first post, OP just got engaged and isn't too happy about her engagement ring. They talked pretty extensively about what she would like and she gave him options as well. He ended up choosing everything she said she would never want, from the color of gold to the cut of the stone. What do you think, should she approach her fiance or not? The second post is about a friendship. A work friendship to be exact, one that has become a bit weird. OP has hung out with this work friend only a time or two outside of the office. The office friend seems to think they have a deeper friendship than they do. OP hasn't been feeling very social lately and it seems as though the friend is offended that OP just wants some alone time at the moment, and won't give her a for sure date for a movie night. She has become much more aggressive about it lately and OP needs to address it somehow, how do you think she should go about it?

(The Witch Bottle In The Pub) *** A recent survey shows that 40 percent of Americans believe that a place can be haunted. Are you one of them? If so, you’re in good company here with the rest of the Weirdo Family. Glen Wershing is a believer as well – and has come to that conclusion through personal experience when moving into his new home. “CLOSE ENCOUNTER ON POT MOUNTAIN” and More Terrifying True Paranormal Stories! #WeirdDarknessIf you like the podcast, please leave a review in the podcast app you listen from, and share a link to the podcast on Facebook and Twitter to invite others to become Weirdos too!IN THIS EPISODE: Have you heard of the “Death Positive” movement? Would you visit a Death Cafe? Would you join a Coffin Club? Why the sudden positive twist on what is typically so morbid? What’s so great about death? (Discourse At The Death Diner) *** When it comes to homes, the ghosts go bump in the night. When it comes to automobiles, do they go honk in the night? (Cursed Cars and Haunted Hoopties) *** Airline pilots in the UK are reporting strange objects in the sky. Not just one pilot, but several. And not just one UFO, but many. And the sightings were close. Very close. So close that they are being described as “near misses”. (Airliners Almost Crash Into UFOs) *** In today’s world, parents often worry about whether their kids are eating healthy and getting a good education, and in the case of long car trips, whether the children have their phones fully charged. It’s tough being a modern parent, but at least you don’t have to worry like Europeans did about your spawn being snatched by fairies. (Child Snatching Fairies) *** Two men go out for a weekend of elk hunting – and come back with the story of a creature so strange they don’t know what to call it. (Close Encounter at Pot Mountain) *** At a downtown Chicago church, people are turning up in droves – not for the preaching or the powerful worship band – but to see a painting of the Virgin Mary, crying real tears. Many companies are wondering about podcasting. Should they get in the game?  The truth is if you're not active in podcasting, it's like not having a blog — potentially worse. So, why is podcasting the best content creation flywheel?  And why is a large content brand like HubSpot tripling down on the medium? There's no one better to answer those questions than Sam Balter. Sam is the senior marketing manager of podcasts at HubSpot, a large, publicly traded content machine, and the host of the Weird Work podcast. His company recently tripled down on podcasting, producing not one, but three very different shows from the niche to the mass appeal. If you've flirted with the idea of podcasting or are curious about using it as a marketing, content creation, or networking tool, this episode is for you.

This week won't be my typical work week. Two days are totally shot this week due to some medical issues and visits to doctors. Part of the reason I'm building my own business is to allow me the flexibility to deal with some medical problems that have been going on for over a decade now. And this summer has been very trying due to those issues. In order to address the medical stuff I really have to be very flexible about my work hours, and working for myself allows that flexibility. My clients don't care what time of day I'm sitting at my computer, so long as the work is done! •If you enjoy the music check out Soundstripe: https://soundstripe.grsm.io/RichardCharpentier •My YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/2mI1qkm •Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/livingintin/ •As always today's music track is licensed through Soundstripe --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-airstream-chronicles/support
