The conclusion of Jeff's celebration of Swan Songs, this time featuring three final cuts in the career of Pink Floyd (with and without former frontmen Roger Waters and Syd Barrett), Roxy Music, Queen, Nirvana, Chris Cornell (with a Johnny Cash angle), The Band, Tom Petty, Warren Zevon, John Lennon, and David Bowie.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Interview by Kris PetersBursting onto the scene in 2005 with a rap/metal hybrid sound that had, by then, all but vanished from the scene, Hollywood Undead almost made it a personal mission to revive the sound.By the time they released their 2008 debut album Swan Songs that mission had already been conquered and Hollywood Undead have been waging - and winning - countless battles ever since. Fans flock to their shows, so-called respectable media outlets have stuck to them like bees to honey, and even the mainstream music market have embraced the Californian metal fusion outfit with their albums and singles charting through the roof. And, despite all of these obvious pre-cursors, Hollywood Undead have never come close to selling out. Not that they have ever needed to.After far too long between visits, Hollywood Undead are on their way back to Australia, forming part of a line-up that also includes Falling In Reverse and Black Veil Brides. It is a monster line-up that has already seen most of the tour sell out. But there are limited tickets left, and if you don't manage to get your hands on one, fear not, Hollywood Undead are also doing a couple of headlining sideshows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.HEAVY caught up with vocalist Johnny 3 Tears to find out what we can expect, pointing out the quality of the line-up."It's gonna be a lot of fun, man," he smiled. "We've done five or six tours with falling and we did a tour in a van with Black Veil 10, 20 years ago. I dunno, it's been a long time. We've also been on the same festivals. We all run in the same circles so you get to know each other over time. It's very incestural (laughs)."We ask Johnny to run through any changes with the band since their last visit here."It's been ten years since we've been there, and fifteen… 2011 was the last time we did a tour in Australia, so fourteen years," he recounted. "Then we did that festival there in 2015, that's how long it's been. A lot has changed…. well, nothing's changed and a lot has changed, I guess. We're still going, we're just a few more albums in deep, we're ten years older sadly. Closer to the grave, bro but still going strong. We're very much looking forward to coming back and hopefully it's not so long between this trip and the next one."In the full interview, Johnny reveals what we can expect from Hollywood Undead live, the dynamics between themselves, Falling In Reverse and Black Veil Brides, how their headline shows will differ, how they approach support slots in terms of set lists and playing to a crowd possibly not there for them, the early days of the band and where they fit in, the impact of their debut album Swan Songs and their thoughts on the album pre-release, how Hollywood Undead have changed musically from that album to now, new music and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

The 2nd of three parts this time – a celebration of the artistry in studio mostly, and the most iconic of final public performances, we're calling Swan Songs, with stories and music to go with from a Jacksonville kid, two of rock's most incendiary drummers, plus a bit about the logo that inspired this min-series, and the rockstar frontman whose swan song would finish, with a nod to Robin Williams. Whether it's a death of an artist, or the end of a band, there has to be one last recording and one final public performance, in every artist's career. And so this time, a good look at some of Rock's Swan Songs, from the summer of love through the early seventies.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Talk about moving from success to significance, Christine Albert and her organization are growing exponentially as their outreach explodes. More about this non-profit "organization of significance." Swan Songs fulfills musical last wishes by organizing private concerts for those with a terminal illness or nearing end of life. Concerts are provided at no cost to the recipient, family, or healthcare facility. They are easy to request, convenient, professional, personalized, intimate, and memorable. Anyone can request a concert – the recipient, a family member, life partner, healthcare or social worker, friend, or spiritual advisor. A specific style of music may be requested, and Swan Songs makes every effort to match the request with the perfect musician. Here's a testimonial from the daughter of a Mom who received a Swan Song house concert before she passed away. “On behalf of my Mom and myself we wanted to thank you so very much for the beautiful concert. My Mom has always made music an integral part of our lives. It was so moving, especially when Mom tried to sing along. The performer had such a beautiful voice and played the guitar magically. She was absolutely fantastic. We were able to video a couple of songs. Many thanks to her and the volunteer coordinator who also came to the house. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful gift with us.” - Daughter of a recipientBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.
Back in 1992, Christine Albert was asked to come to death bed of John Swann. John wanted to hear his favorite songs from one of his favorite Austin musicians. Christine's music brought peace, comfort, kindness and a touch of grace as John transitioned to his eternal home. In 2005, Christine Albert founded Swan Songs, a nonprofit bringing last musical wishes to people with terminal illnesses. Receiving around one or two requests daily for private performances, Swan Songs has fulfilled over 1,000 unique requests for music at the end of life. Albert began using her natural talent in 1992 to bring musical wishes to those facing the end of their lives. It wasn't until years later that Albert and her friend Gaea Logan, an Austin psychotherapist, recognized the benefit of making music more available to patients in hospice care by merging the healthcare and music communities. Here is a touching testimonial that expresses the spirit of Swan Songs. “Thank you, Swan Songs, for giving my dying mother a true gift. The pleasant and professional musician showed up with his guitar, sat at the foot of her bed and serenaded Mom with her favorite country classics for almost an hour. The photographer captured magic moments of the joy radiating from Mom's face. The planner prepared thoroughly and attended to ensure that all went well. It did; far beyond our expectations. These days Mom doesn't remember when I visit. The morning after the concert she awoke humming and asking for ‘Cowboy George.' Thank you for stimulating old memories and creating new ones of her favorite music. Thank you for honoring her well.” - Daughter of a recipient

Shocktober is here! Our first spooOOooky reading of the month is Emily Carroll's THROUGH THE WOODS -- her first nightmare-inducing printed collection of short horror tales, which was published in 2014 after a few years of Emily creating (and continuing to create!) horror webcomics which often use the medium of reading-on-the-internet in very clever ways. Those can still be read online at https://emcarroll.com/ , and the incredibly acclaimed THROUGH THE WOODS collection of print-only stories is available wherever books or sold or through your local library. --- What else are we reading? Mike loves the first issue of SWAN SONGS -- a new anthology series of one-shot stories about endings, written by W. Maxwell Prince of ICE CREAM MAN fame! Justin loves the new Stan Lee comic biography I AM STAN by Tom Scioli of GODLAND and GO-BOTS fame! --- Follow us on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/theveryfinecomicbookpodcast/ and send us questions to potentially read on-air via IG DM or via email at theveryfinecomicbookpodcast@gmail.com Mail us things c/o Justin Decloux, Unit 1010, 3230 Yonge St, Toronto, ON, M4N 3P6, Canada Thanks for listening! Join Sis and Big Pops for a fun, fun talk about one of the things we love most—Nerd Stuff. We discuss out fav bits of nerd news over the past couple of weeks: Jennifer Gardner is going to be in Deadpool 3 as Electra, the clips from the Barbie movie featuring Ken are very funny, Big Pop's finds out how much Forest Gump's shares of Apple would be worth today, RDJ was seen on the set of Captain America-New World Order, and there is going to be a sequel to Passion of the Christ titled The Resurrection. We also discussed some new movie news: the new Dune-Part 2 trailer looks so cool, as does the movie Wonka, and Big Pop's shares some cool news about a new Studio Ghibli film called “How Do You Live?” which does not have a trailer, or any press released with it. For bingeing, Big Pops has re-watched the Reacher TV show, and it enjoying My Adventures with Superman, and just started watching One Piece. He also is reading the comics Ice-cream Man and Swan Songs on Hoopla watching Ted Lasso, Star Trek Strange New worlds, and has been reading Birth Right the Comic. Sis has finally finished her audio book The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern (which she definitely recommends) and started listening to another called The Overstory by Richard Powers. She is still watching her guy play Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on switch and is enjoying Adventure Time. Then, Pops shares his pull list! This week he introduces us to Knight Terrors: Batman Issue 1 by DC; Spiderman Issue 10 by Marvel; as well as No One Issue 4 by Image. His new number 1 is Knight Terrors: First Blook Issue 1 by DC, With his Book of the Week being Captain America Issue 750 by Marvel. This episode was originally recorded on 07/11/23.
