No one knows and if they do, they aren't saying. Today, only the foundations, the stone chimneys and perhaps the ghosts remain. (Summerwind: The Most Haunted House In Wisconsin) *** A young woman discovers that it's possible to live a lonely life, yet still not be alone. (Followed By a Child) *** Is it possible that during the years of World War 1, Agnes Whiteland, while peering off her balcony, saw a group of time travelers? (Agnes And The Time Travelers) *** Tituba proved to be a fantastic orator as she talked her way out of slavery using the fear and mass hysteria of witchcraft that paralyzed the people of Salem. (Tituba And the Salem Witch Trials) *** The discovery of a 10-year-old's body at an ancient Roman site in Italy suggests his family, friends, and neighbors thought he was a vampire – and took measures to make sure he wouldn't return from the grave. (The Unearthing of a Child Vampire) *** Authorities placed Gil Perez in jail as a deserter and for the possibility that he may have been in the service of Satan. In Gil's defense though, he said he simply teleported somewhere else. (Teleportation of a Spanish Soldier) ***
Matthew Weeks was found guilty and hanged for the murder of Charlotte Dymond. Today it is said that the ghosts of both of them roam the countryside – but could it be that Matthew's ghost is lamenting because he was innocent of the crime? (The Murder of Charlotte Dymond on Bodmin Moor) *** A building situated right in the middle of London's swankiest and most historical areas, has long been said to be the lair of something not of this earth. (The Bizarre Nameless Thing of Berkley Square) *** “The Jungle Book” - we are all familiar with the story in some way – either from the classic animated Disney film version from 1967, the live action version in 2016, or the original novel by Rudyard Kipling published in 1894. In fact, yet another retelling of the story is coming in 2019 in a film entitled simply, “Mowgli”. But what many don't know is that the character of Mowgli was, in fact, inspired by a real boy who was raised by wild animals. (The Real Life Inspiration for Mowgli) *** Evil stepmothers, jealous of their stepdaughters' beauty are a classic tome in fantastical stories – but Martha Savcoll was no fairy tale. (Brooklyn Murderess) *** Of all the places in the world you would expect to be safe from the paranormal, it would be a church – but that would not be telling the truth when referring to Adams Grove Presbyterian Church in Alabama. Wilfred "Biffy" Dunderdale: A Life of Espionage On today's Spybrary, host Shane Whaley sat down with Lt. Col. Tim Spicer OBE, author of A Suspicion of Spies: Risk, Secrets and Shadows – The Biography of Wilfred ‘Biffy' Dunderdale. The book offers a glimpse into the life of this iconic British spy. Drawing upon years of research, Spicer's biography explores the remarkable life of a man who navigated the treacherous world of espionage, leaving an indelible mark on history. Early Life and Introduction to Espionage: Born in Odessa in 1899, Wilfred "Biffy" Dunderdale's life was marked by adventure from a young age. Spicer highlights Dunderdale's multilingual upbringing, fluent in English, Russian, French, Polish, and German, as a key asset in his future espionage career. By 16, Dunderdale was already immersed in naval studies in St. Petersburg, hinting at a future intertwined with maritime affairs. At the tender age of 17, Dunderdale found himself at the helm of an Imperial Russian submarine. In a daring maneuver, he engaged and sank five German ships, an act of valor that earned him the prestigious Order of St. Stanislav and the Order of St. Anne, the highest military honors bestowed by Tsar Nicholas II. This early display of courage and strategic thinking foreshadowed Dunderdale's future successes in the world of espionage. A Career Forged in Conflict: Dunderdale's exceptional language skills paved the way for his recruitment by British Naval Intelligence in 1918. During this time, he conducted numerous intelligence operations in Crimea, distinguishing himself with two Mentions-in-Despatches and a military MBE for his role in suppressing a Bolshevik mutiny aboard the submarine 'Outka'. The Rise of a Spymaster: In 1921, Dunderdale's talents caught the Secret Intelligence Service's (SIS) attention, leading to his posting in Constantinople. His responsibilities expanded to encompass intelligence work in Turkey, the Caucasus, and Southern Russia, further solidifying his reputation within the intelligence community. Dunderdale's meteoric rise within the SIS culminated in his appointment as Head of Station in Paris in 1926, at the remarkably young age of 26. This achievement marked him as the youngest SIS Head of Station ever, a testament to his exceptional abilities and the trust placed in him. In Paris, he collaborated closely with the French Deuxième Bureau, focusing on anti-Bolshevik and, increasingly, anti-Nazi operations.   Crucial Contributions to World War II: One of Dunderdale's most significant contributions to the Allied war effort was his involvement with the Enigma machine. Working in conjunction with Polish and French intelligence, he played a key role in the development and understanding of this crucial German encryption device. Notably, Dunderdale facilitated the smuggling of the first Enigma machine to Bletchley Park just before the outbreak of World War II. This daring act provided Allied codebreakers with a critical advantage, enabling them to decipher German communications and significantly contributing to the Allied victory. Throughout World War II, Dunderdale maintained a vast and effective intelligence network in France, gathering invaluable information on German U-boat operations, Normandy's coastal defenses, and the development of V1 and V2 rockets. These intelligence coups proved instrumental in both the D-Day landings and the broader Allied war effort. A Legacy of Espionage and Intrigue: Dunderdale's postwar activities remained shrouded in secrecy. However, his influence continued to be felt in the shadowy world of espionage. Spicer's biography sheds light on Dunderdale's involvement in clandestine operations behind the Iron Curtain, his role in the Suez Crisis, and his connection to the "Buster Crabbe" affair. The Bond Connection: Dunderdale's life story reads like something straight out of a spy novel or 'like Commando comics' says Spybrary Host Shane Whaley. Biffy's long friendship with Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, has fueled speculation about Dunderdale's influence on the iconic character. Many believe that Dunderdale, with his taste for adventure, his network of informants, and his deep understanding of the world of espionage, served as a key inspiration for the suave and resourceful James Bond. Unveiling a Shadowy Figure: Lt. Col. Tim Spicer's A Suspicion of Spies offers a captivating look into the life of one of Britain's most enigmatic and influential spies. Through meticulous research and engaging storytelling, Spicer brings Wilfred "Biffy" Dunderdale out of the shadows, revealing a man who dedicated his life to serving his country in the most clandestine of ways. The biography stands as a testament to Dunderdale's unwavering commitment to his duty, his extraordinary courage, and his lasting impact on the world of espionage. 'An exhaustively researched, detailed and gripping account of the life and dramatic times of one of Britain's foremost secret agents - the inimitable Wilfred 'Biffy' Dunderdale. A fabulous hero to quicken any schoolboy adventurer's blood, Dunderdale remains an iconic figure in the world of British and allied secret services. Read this book to understand why.' Damian Lewis About the Author Lieutenant Colonel Tim Spicer OBE has led a life filled with action and adventure. During his twenty years in the British Army he saw active service in Northern Ireland, the Falklands campaign, the Gulf War and the Balkans, as well as serving in the Far East, Cyprus and Germany. Key appointments have included Chief of Staff of an Armoured Brigade, Staff Officer at the Directorate of Special Forces and Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards, among many others. Over the course of his illustrious military career, Spicer has developed extensive knowledge of intelligence, counter-terrorism, complex relations and protective security. In 2001 he founded the private security company Aegis, which has counted the UK, US and Italian governments among its clients. He is the author of An Unorthodox Soldier: Peace and War and the Sandline Affair (2000), a fast-moving account of his military life, including the events surrounding his time in Papua New Guinea when he was captured and held at gunpoint, as well as the notorious 'Sandline Affair' of 1996, and A Dangerous Enterprise (2021) that charts the history of the little-known, yet remarkable 15th Motor Gunboat Flotilla, commanded directly by the Secret Intelligence Service. In June of 1975 we were exposed to one of the scariest movies ever made. For this podcaster, it's just not Independence Day until I watch it – and you still can't get me to swim in the ocean. We'll look at what made ‘Jaws' so successful… and so frightening. We'll also look at the true story of a string of shark attacks in 1916 that inspired the novel and the film. And while 1975's ‘Jaws' was inspired by a series of shark attacks but greatly fictionalized, the film ‘Open Water' from 2003 is based on a very real and terrifying story. But the truth behind the movie is a dark mystery that goes way beyond the horror of what you see in the film. We'll look at several other real shark attacks that are almost too incredible to believe, and also try to answer the question as to why shark attacks don't happen more often as you would expect them to, seeing as humans should be easy pickings. Netflix's new miniseries 'Baby Reindeer' has taken the streaming world by storm, captivating viewers with its gripping tale of a comedian's experience with a stalker. The show, based on the true story of Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, follows the character Donny Dunn as he navigates the relentless harassment from a woman named Martha. However, the real-life inspiration for Martha, Fiona Harvey, has come forward to dispute the accuracy of the show's portrayal and threatens legal action against Gadd and Netflix. In an interview with Piers Morgan, Fiona Harvey, a 58-year-old woman claiming to be the real Martha, expressed her outrage at the show's depiction of her. She called the series "defamatory" and a "work of fiction," denying many of the incidents portrayed in the show, such as offering Gadd a cup of tea, heckles his comedy show, attacking his girlfriend, or contacting his parents. Harvey also disputed the extent of her communication with Gadd, claiming she only sent him a handful of emails, tweeted him about 18 times, and wrote him one letter, contrary to the thousands of messages depicted in the show. The popularity of 'Baby Reindeer' has led to intense online speculation about the real identities of the characters, particularly Martha and Darrien, a TV comedy writer who sexually assaults Donny in the show. This has resulted in harassment and death threats directed at Harvey, as well as accusations against British actor, writer, and director Sean Foley, who some viewers believe to be the real-life Darrien. The situation has become so severe that Gadd had to post an Instagram story asking fans to stop their unsubstantiated guesswork, while Foley has called upon the police to investigate the threatening posts against him. Despite Gadd's claims that he never viewed his stalker as a villain and felt sorry for her, Harvey strongly disagrees. She believes Gadd is "psychotic" and finds the behavior of those involved in the show "outrageous." As the controversy surrounding 'Baby Reindeer' continues to unfold, it raises important questions about the responsibility of creators when adapting true stories for entertainment and the impact on the lives of those involved. With Harvey's threat of legal action looming, the future of the show and its real-life implications remain uncertain. Comedian (Co-me-di-an): The show, based on the true story of Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, follows the character Donny Dunn as he navigates the relentless harassment from a woman named Martha.Defamatory (De-fam-a-to-ry): She called the series "defamatory" and a "work of fiction," denying many of the incidents portrayed in the show, such as offering Gadd a cup of tea, heckles his comedy show, attacking his girlfriend, or contacting his parents.Relentless (Re-lent-less): The show, based on the true story of Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, follows the character Donny Dunn as he navigates the relentless harassment from a woman named Martha.Unsubstantiated (Un-sub-stan-ti-a-ted): The situation has become so severe that Gadd had to post an Instagram story asking fans to stop their unsubstantiated guesswork, while Foley has called upon the police to investigate the threatening posts against him.Psychotic (Psy-chot-ic): She believes Gadd is "psychotic" and finds the behavior of those involved in the show "outrageous." Was Summerwind in Wisconsin really haunted?
(Haunted Adams Grove Presbyterian Church) *** Outside of Washington, D.C. lies Forest Haven Asylum, an abandoned institution with a thoroughly disturbing past. Let us know in the comments on this Facebook post - and tell us what the scariest scene was for you: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/bpacmhz5 IN THIS EPISODE: In June of 1975 we were exposed to one of the scariest movies ever made. We'll look at several other real shark attacks that are almost too incredible to believe, and also try to answer the question as to why shark attacks don't happen more often as you would expect them to, seeing as humans should be easy pickings.(Dark Archives episode from July 03, 2020)SOURCES AND ESSENTIAL WEB LINKS…“The True Darkness of Open Water” by Erin McCann for Ranker: https://tinyurl.com/y8vaqgra “The Real-Life Inspiration for ‘Jaws'” by Christopher Klein for History: https://tinyurl.com/yb5s35xc “The Horror of ‘Jaws'” by Jackie Flynn Mogensen for Mother Jones: https://tinyurl.com/y2mxf8us, Andrew Housman for ScreenRant: https://tinyurl.com/yae8ohh6, Meagan Navarro for Bloody Disgusting: https://tinyurl.com/y7p8q9lw, Tim Donnelly for the New York Post: https://tinyurl.com/y9twrcc7, and Rachel Paige for Hello Giggles: https://tinyurl.com/ycdlb6je“Real Shark Attacks” by Charles W. On May 30, 1879 the town of Irving, Kansas in the northeastern part of the state was a growing farm community with several hundred residents. Today, though Irving is a ghost town. On May 30, 1879, two tornados destroyed most of the town, leaving 19 dead and many more injured. Some residents left Irving, but the town was rebuilt, and new businesses arrived, allowing Irving to regain its prominence as a local agricultural center. During the summer of 1903, the Big Blue River flooded and destroyed homes, crops and bridges. The river threatened to do it again in 1908 but the townspeople were prepared and were able to keep the river within its banks. In 1910 the population was estimated at 403 and boasted "good banking facilities, a weekly newspaper, telegraph and express offices, grade schools, a public library, and churches. After plans for the construction of the Tuttle Creek Dam were announced, the population declined and many businesses, including the post office, closed. The townsite was abandoned in 1960 after the dam was constructed. The town fell victim to the ways of the weather on the great plans and what some would term – progress. Still the town lives on. It turns out that one of those who unfortunately died in the 1879 tornado was a young woman named Dorothy Gale, who was found without her shoes. Passing through the region just after the tornado was traveling salesman-turned-author Frank Baum. He would use the story to inspire him to write a book and the name of Dorothy would live on in his famous work, The Wizard of Oz. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We are back in the studio of Equipped To Be for part II of my interview with international bestselling author Larry Loftis. We begin this episode with how I met Mr. Loftis through a mutual friend.   During this part of the conversation, I share an untold story of how his advice positively impacted my journey to becoming a first-time author with a well-known publishing house. While writing Parenting Beyond the Rules: Raising Teens with Confidence and Joy,  Mr. Loftis provided sage advice that helped me navigate the publishing world with increased confidence.   In the next segment, we change the topic back to Mr. Loftis. He began his writing career early in life by publishing numerous scholarly legal articles in university law reviews and professional bar journals. His desire for excellence drove him to author several business books, which he found dry and boring. When the housing market collapsed in 2008, he decided to take some time off to figure out what he was passionate about and interested in.   Listen in for the whole story and read the full show notes here: https://conniealbers.com/interview-with-larry-loftis-part-ii/   About Larry Loftis Larry Loftis is the New York Times and international bestselling author of the nonfiction spy thrillers CODE NAME: LISE: The True Story of the Woman Who Became WWII's Most Highly Decorated Spy and Into the Lion's Mouth: The True Story of Dusko Popov—World War II Spy, Patriot, and the Real-Life Inspiration for James Bond. His third nonfiction thriller, The Princess Spy: The True Story of World War II Spy Aline Griffith, Countess of Romanones, is now out and was an instant New York Times bestseller. His books have been translated into multiple languages around the world, including Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, Czech, and Serbian.   Prior to becoming a full-time writer, Mr. Loftis was a corporate attorney, publishing scholarly legal articles in the University of Florida Law Review, Suffolk Transnational Law Journal, Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law, Florida Bar Journal, National Law Journal, and Florida Banking. He also has served as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Florida Law School, where he taught writing and appellate advocacy. He received his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Florida, where he served on the Law Review as Senior Executive Editor and Senior Articles Editor.

On May 30, 1879 the town of Irving, Kansas in the northeastern part of the state was a growing farm community with several hundred residents. Today, though Irving is a ghost town. On May 30, 1879, two tornadoes destroyed most of the town, leaving 19 dead and many more injured. Passing through the region just after the tornado was traveling salesman-turned-author L. Frank Baum. He would use the story to inspire him to write a book and the name of Dorothy would live on in his famous work, "The Wizard of Oz" Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The odds of becoming a published author are low, but becoming a bestselling author is extremely difficult. Larry Loftis not only beat the odds, but he has also hit the NYT bestseller list multiple times. In June of 1975 we were exposed to one of the scariest movies ever made. For this podcaster, it’s just not Independence Day until I watch it – and you still can’t get me to swim in the ocean. We’ll look at what made ‘Jaws’ so successful… and so frightening. We’ll also look at the true story of a string of shark attacks in 1916 that inspired the novel and the film. And while 1975’s ‘Jaws’ was inspired by a series of shark attacks but greatly fictionalized, the film ‘Open Water’ from 2003 is based on a very real and terrifying story. But the truth behind the movie is a dark mystery that goes way beyond the horror of what you see in the film. We’ll look at several other real shark attacks that are almost too incredible to believe, and also try to answer the question as to why shark attacks don’t happen more often as you would expect them to, seeing as humans should be easy pickings.TRANSCRIPT FOR THIS EPISODE…Find a full or partial transcript at the bottom of this blog post: https://weirddarkness.com/archives/6801SUPPORT THE PODCAST…Become a patron: https://WeirdDarkness.com/WEIRDOVisit the Weird Darkness store: https://WeirdDarkness.com/STOREFind my social media, email and contact info: https://WeirdDarkness.com/CONTACTSTORY AND MUSIC CREDITS/SOURCES…(Over time links can and may become invalid, disappear, or have different content.)“The True Darkness of Open Water” by Erin McCann for Ranker: https://tinyurl.com/y8vaqgra “The Real-Life Inspiration for ‘Jaws’” by Christopher Klein for History: https://tinyurl.com/yb5s35xc “The Horror of ‘Jaws’” by Jackie Flynn Mogensen for Mother Jones: https://tinyurl.com/y2mxf8us, Andrew Housman for ScreenRant: https://tinyurl.com/yae8ohh6, Meagan Navarro for Bloody Disgusting: https://tinyurl.com/y7p8q9lw, Tim Donnelly for the New York Post: https://tinyurl.com/y9twrcc7, and Rachel Paige for Hello Giggles: https://tinyurl.com/ycdlb6je“Real Shark Attacks” by Charles W. The real James Bond is finally revealed: A few years ago Larry Loftis decided to stop publishing legal articles and work full-time on researching and writing the story of Dusko Popov, the daring World War II double agent who worked tirelessly to keep the Nazis off guard about the upcoming D-Day invasions. That work became his book Into the Lion's Mouth: The True Story of Dusko Popov: World War II Spy, Patriot, and the Real-Life Inspiration for James Bond. Loftis received his undergraduate degree and his Law degrees from the University of Florida. His background in writing stems from his time on the university's Law Review as the Senior Executive Editor and Senior Articles Editor. He is the author of a number of scholarly legal articles. But you'd never know about Larry's background in dry academic writing by reading his book. Into the Lion's Mouth is a riveting narrative that is as unbelievable as it is addictive. Even former CIA director Michael Morrell called it "impossible to put down. The most shocking aspect of this book is that every word in it is absolutely true. With the attention to detail that only a lawyer could bring to researching a book of this magnitude, Loftis poured through thousands of historical documents (including MI5 archives) related to Popov and his missions, even revealing that it was actually Popov's adventures which inspired the many tales of Britain's 007, James Bond. 1. Popov was captured by the Nazis before he became a spy. Dusko Popov was a student in Germany as the Nazis took power and began to persecute the German Jews. No fan of the Nazis, Popov thumbed his nose at the thugs who came to intimidate patrons of Jewish businesses. He was quickly visited by the Gestapo, who imprisoned him and tortured him for information. He was able to escape Germany because of his family's connections. Hermann Göering ordered his release to Yugoslavia. 2. He was recruited by his best friend.   Johann-Nielsen Jebsen – known as "Johnny" – went to school with Popov. But Jebsen is from a very wealthy European family with German roots. They met each other at the university of Freiburg but where Popov was expelled from Germany, Jebsen, as a German citizen, was forced to join the Nazi war effort. He joins the Abwehr (German military intelligence) as a spy recruiter. His first recruit is Dusko Popov and the two both became double agents for the British. 3. He warned the U.S. about the attack on Pearl Harbor Popov warned the FBI on Aug. 18, 1941, that the Japanese were about to attack Pearl Harbor. Popov and his MI6 supervisor met FBI officials at the Commodore Hotel and for three hours laid out the entire plan. Popov was in the country to set up a spy ring in New York and recon the defenses at Pearl Harbor. The attack was supposed to be a repeat of the British attack on the Italian fleet at the defended port of Taranto in 1940. The Japanese wanted to know how they could be as successful as they enter the war against the Americans. The reason President Roosevelt never saw the information will enrage you. Check out the book (or finish this podcast) to find out! 4. He was critical to the success of D-Day. The British determined that the best way to keep the Germans off guard on D-Day was to convince them that the invasion would come at Pas-de-Calais, not Normandy. At the risk of his life, with interrogators who were convinced that Popov was compromised by the British, Popov returned to Germany. He gave the Nazis the false information the British wanted them to believe during multiple, marathon interrogation sessions that lasted for hours at a time over a series of days. Popov was the only spy who was interrogated by the Nazis about D-Day. 5. His real-world girlfriend was a movie star. Just like his silver screen counterpart, James Bond, Popov had a slew of women he used for various reasons as a undercover agent for two opposing countries. But his heart belonged to just one – and she was as glamorous as the rest of his World War II life: Hollywood movie star Simone Simon.

In a different time, Dusko Popov might have enjoyed the life of a Serbian playboy without the interruption of espionage, subterfuge and violence. But from the early days of World War II, Popov risked his life as a double agent to aid the Allies in the fight against the Nazis. Florida attorney Larry Loftis had been intending to write a fictional spy novel, he tells the ABA Journal's Lee Rawles in this episode of the Modern Law Library. But in researching the lives of spies in World War II, he discovered Popov's story and decided that this was a truth no fiction could touch. Loftis combed U.S., British, Portuguese and German archives and Popov's own memoirs—and interviewed surviving members of Popov's own family—to produce "Into the Lion's Mouth: The True Story of Dusko Popov: World War II Spy, Patriot, and the Real-Life Inspiration for James Bond." In this podcast, Loftis discusses how he came to learn of Popov; how the paths of Bond creator Ian Fleming and Popov may have crossed; and why Popov was convinced that if a piece of intelligence he'd uncovered had been passed on to the U.S. Navy, the devastating Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor 75 years ago may have been prevented.

NOIR FACTORY PODCAST CASE #23- The Real Life Inspiration for Professor Moriarty.   “He is the Napoleon of crime, Watson. He is the organizer of half that is evil and of nearly all that is undetected in this great city, He is a genius, a philosopher, an abstract thinker. He has a brain of the first order. He sits motionless, like a spider in the center of its web, but that web has a thousand radiations, and he knows well every quiver of each of them. He does little himself. He only plans.” -Arthur Conan Doyle     He was the World's Greatest Detective, but what did that mean if he went up against purse snatchers and sneak-thieves. He matched wits with the best criminals in London, but how impressive was that if you always came out on top? If you always won?   Doyle’s detective bored quickly and needed the game to keep his senses sharp, his intellect keen. So if you are Arthur Conan Doyle and you have the great Sherlock Holmes at your disposal, you don't need a good villain or even a brilliant foe.   You need the greatest criminal mind ever.   You need the man Scotland Yard dubbed the “Napoleon of Crime.” Adam Worth was born to a Jewish family in Germany in 1844 and traveled with his parents to America five years later. The Worth family settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Adam's father was a tailor and young Adam helped around the shop.   When he was 5 years old, young Adam was conned into trading two old, dull pennies for a bright, shinny new one.   Adam's father beat the boy for falling for the trick and even at that early, tender age, Adam Worth vowed that “no one would ever get the better of Adam Worth in any business transaction, regular or irregular.

Jesse and I are talking about "slacker parenting" this week on the podcast. This term might seem a bit odd or like the opposite of the kind of parent you'd want to be, but hear us out... because it's not exactly what it sounds like!I recently read a pre-release copy of Alli Worthington's upcoming book Remaining You While Raising Them and that's where I got the phrase from. Alli talks about how kids are often much more capable than we think they are. What would it look like for us to give them more opportunities to be in charge of their own responsibilities -- such as getting up and getting ready to leave for school, making their own lunches, managing their own homework, etc.I so agreed with what she jokingly called "slacker parenting" because it's about raising our kids to be adults, to take ownership of their life and decisions, and to learn personal responsibility from a young age.In this episode, we talk more about what this has looked like in our home, how it frees us up to enjoy our kids more, why it's a gift we give our kids, and how it helps prepare them more for life and their future. In This Episode[01:35] – We are talking about slacker parenting today.[02:38] – We just got back from a camping trip![05:23] – We learned that our kids like to sleep in very cold temperatures.[06:25] – Our girls went to prom -- and we also sort of went to pom for the first time![08:29] – I have been back on the reading train.[11:47] – I am almost done listening to The Book Woman's Daughter.[13:59] – Jesse is looking forward to the book The Watchmaker's Daughter.[16:52] – Iron in a Bottle has been saving my life![20:23] – Mamava pods also saved my life last week.[23:53] – What inspired the topic of slacker parenting?[26:19] – Hear an example of how we practice this.[28:31] – Kids are a lot more capable than we give them credit for.[31:00] – Jesse emphasizes that kids will even ask to help at times.[32:39] – We also try to avoid solving problems for our kids.[35:06] – It's also important to teach kids to ask for help rather than expect it.[38:30] – This is a gift to your children and to yourself.Links & Resources Crystal PaineIron in a BottleMamava PodsBooksThe Book Woman's Daughter: A Novel by Kim Michele RichardsonThe Book Woman of Troublesome Creek: A Novel by Kim Michele RichardsonThe Watchmaker's Daughter: The True Story of World War II Heroine Corrie ten Boom by Larry LoftisInto the Lion's Mouth: The True Story of Dusko Popov: World War II Spy, Patriot, and the Real-Life Inspiration for James Bond by Larry LoftisCode Name: Lise: The True Story of the Woman Who Became WWII's Most Highly Decorated Spy by Larry LoftisThe Princess Spy: The True Story of World War II Spy Aline Griffith, Countess of Romanones by Larry LoftisRemaining You While Raising Them: The Secret Art of Confident Motherhood by Alli WorthingtonLove-Centered Parenting: The No-Fail Guide to Launching Your Kids by Crystal PaineOther Links10 Days to Be a Happier MomSign up for the Hot Deals Email ListMoneySavingMom.comMy Instagram account (I'd love for you to follow me there!
