This episode of Scandal Water contains adult themes and descriptions of violence. Listener discretion is advised. In last week's episode you heard the tragic story behind the infamous Murder Mansion in Bowling Green, Kentucky. We walked you through the shocking double-murder case that started with a confession from college student Harry Edward Kilgore, then took the first of many unexpected turns when an alleged accomplice–George Daggitt, a music professor from that same college– was named. This week we have the privilege to speak with Wes Swietek, author of the book “The Cemetery Road Murders: The Shocking True Tale of Kentucky's Murder Mansion.” What happened to Harry Kilgore and George Daggitt after the final trial? What was the true story behind the alleged extortion scheme? Did the jury make the right decision regarding George Daggitt's guilt? And what really happened that fateful night in June of 1948 when Charles and Martha Martin were brutally murdered in their own home? We discuss all this and so much more in this lively interview with author Wes Swietek. So be sure to travel to Cemetery Road with us for this glimpse inside the notorious Murder Mansion. This episode of Scandal Water contains adult themes and descriptions of violence. Listener discretion is advised. Wednesday, June 30, 1948, Dr. Charles Martin and his wife Martha Martin were discovered in the bedroom of their palatial home in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The murder scene was so grisly, the police at first mistakenly believed the elderly couple had been attacked with an ax. Within days the investigators had a full confession from college student Harry Edward Kilgore, and it seemed a matter of case closed… But they couldn't have been more wrong. This was just the beginning of the tragic double-murder case detailed in the book “The Cemetery Road Murders: The Shocking True Tale of Kentucky's Murder Mansion” by Wes Swietek. In this week's episode we walk you through the twists and turns of this true crime case that would end up involving an insanity hearing, a possible love triangle, an extortion scheme, an alleged accomplice, and even more shocking developments. You won't want to miss this episode! Not only will you be drawn into the intriguing story behind the infamous Murder Mansion, but you'll also be ready for our fascinating interview with author Wes Swietek that drops next Tuesday. Special thanks to Ann DAngelo for her top-of-the-episode shout out! Be sure to check out her book “Dark Highway: Love, Murder, and Revenge in 1930's Kentucky” (available on Amazon.com). In the early hours of June 30, 1987, Boise resident Clinton Sparks was awoken by someone pounding frantically on his storm door. A moment later, Sparks heard a loud scream in the distance, and he went inside to call 911.Although he didn't know it at the time, what Clinton Sparks heard was the last desperate cry of twenty-one-year-old Preston Murr, Two of Murr's associates, Daniel Rodgers and Daron Cox, were arrested and tried and convicted for the murder. The trial and conviction should have been where the story ended, but for the house on Linden Street where the murder occurred, it was only the beginning. Since Murr's tragic death more than thirty-five years ago, the house has become a source of local legends, with claims ranging from the appearance of ghostly apparitions to blood inexplicably dripping down the walls. As a result, Boise's “Murder Mansion” has become known as one of the most haunted houses in America.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!!ReferencesEnsunsa, David. 1987. This week, in Libertyville, Illinois, the perfect family has the perfect house, in the perfect neighborhood. This all comes crashing down, one stormy night, when two horrific murders take place. It becomes a huge mystery, because family members won't let the teenage children talk to police. Was it the stoner son, who wouldn't join the army, like his dad wanted him to? The seemingly perfect, horse riding daughter? The youngest son, who has been in trouble his whole life? Along the way, we find out that Burlington Coat Factory is an awful place, and we all go there, that seeing someone toss something off a bridge during a night time thunderstorm might be the creepiest thing, ever, and that once in a while, time will loosen a murderer's defenses!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports! It was June 6, 1980, in the normally quiet suburb of Libertyville, Illinois. Located in the heart of Lake County, it was one of the most affluent communities surrounding Chicago. The residents of Libertyville weren't accustomed to violent crime – those kinds of things don't happen here, they'd often say. Until they do.Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comWant an episode every week, plus other awesome perks and discounts? In the early morning hours of February 9, 2014, 17-year-old Lexi Sachs was asleep in her bed, inside of her parents' mansion in San Juan Capistrano, California – one of the nicest and most affluent neighborhoods in the country. And as she lay there, suddenly there was a loud bang on her door that woke her up. Instinctively, Lexi just pulled the covers up over her head like she did when she was a little kid and was scared. As she lay there, she held her breath, hoping the sound she just heard was in her dream, and not in real life. But then, she heard her little brother screaming in the hallway. At that point, Lexi threw off the covers and ran out of her room. And what she found at the end of the hallway would not only turn her life upside down, but it would also leave one of the wealthiest communities in Southern California in complete shock. For 100s more stories like these, check out our main YouTube channel just called "MrBallen" -- https://www.youtube.com/c/MrBallenIf you want to reach out to me, contact me on Instagram, Twitter or any other major social media platform, my username on all of them is @mrballenSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Friday is upon us again, which means that it's time for another campfire at the BnB. In (yet another) strange coincidence, we both brought stories that took place during the beginning of the 20th century. This week, Bailey tells the head-scratching tale of the Redpath Family, and the secrets that were kept in what is now referred to as The Redpath Murder Mansion in Montreal. The true events of one evening, that the surviving family members continued to refer to as "the accident", may never be known.Beth's story brings us a survivor, who isn't our normal survivor....in fact, he's the bad guy. But the story is about so much more than that, and we choose to celebrate the survivor of HIS abuse, who was able to escape because of social change; and one damn good little brother.Bring some marshmallows and a pointy stick; we'll provide the spiked hot chocolate.. . . . .If you enjoy our show, please share our episodes on social media--that's the greatest way to help us find new listeners.Another way is to rate and review on Apple Podcasts or GoodPods, or give us a 5-star rating on whatever platform you prefer!https://linktr.ee/TrueCrimeBnB?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=9e8aa538-d3ee-4823-b2e1-cb1625692e7aYou can find us on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook @TrueCrimeBnBYou can send us an email at TrueCrimeBnBPod@gmail.comAnd lastly, we thank all of you for just coming along to listen. Wow, Episode 40, everybody! Thank you for joining us!This week Bailey brings to light the true story of the terrible history of the Bowling Green Murder Mansion in Kentucky, and the questions surrounding the involvement of Harry Kilgore and 'maybe' his beloved, who married another man. Or two. Beth shares the harrowing Hawaii survival story of Nicholas Iwamoto, who only wanted to serve his country, but instead had his whole life hijacked and rerouted by a man who nearly took his life. In mid 1800's Lousiana, Delphine LaLaurie lived as a popular socialite in the city of New Orleans. While admired by many in town, Delphine was secretly commiting horrifying, evil acts to those who lived and worked in her nearby mansion. In the end, what happened to Delphine may never truly be known, but many people still claim to experience strange incidents while visiting her French Quarter mansion. Buckle up, Buckaroos.

If you'd like a unique voice for your radio, TV or social media campaigns, contact Chris! They call it The Kentucky Murder Mansion, and you're about to find out why, and discover the people whose lives were affected by the killings that occurred here years ago. Settled in the center of Warren County, KY, lies the small town of Bowling Green. Its' small size and humble nature contradict the fact that it's actually the third largest city in the state. In the last several decades, the town has seen a massive economic boom and its stature within the state has grown as well. The town is home to the famed Corvette Museum and Factory, Western Kentucky University, now the second largest college in the state, the headquarters of Fruit of the Loom, and the Lost River Cave, one of the most beautiful and unique natural wonders of the United States. With its scenic beauty and thriving economy, Bowling Green has become a beacon of prosperity for the entire state. However, not all that long ago, things were much different in Bowling Green. SKIP TO 5:04 TO GET TO THIS WEEK'S STORY Welcome to Episode 95 of Let's Get Haunted! Continuing on with our Holiday-themed episodes this December, Aly tells Nat the tale of one of Los Angeles' most infamous haunted houses. Steeped in urban legend, the Los Feliz Murder Mansion - located in the affluent LA neighborhood of Los Feliz - was abandoned in December of 1959 following the grisly murder-suicide of two of its occupants and the attempted murder of one other. Rumor has it that the crime scene was never cleaned up and blood-stained objects sat abandoned in the house for years. A new owner did buy the house the year after the tragic event, but for some mysterious reason they chose to never actually move into the home, continuing to leave it abandoned in a state of disrepair. In recent years, the house continues with this trend of bad luck as new owner after new owner continues to be unable to move into the mansion. Is the entire neighborhood of Los Feliz cursed? Aly interviews an Angeleno that lives down the street from the murder mansion to hear her thoughts on the matter, in addition to interviewing Stacy of the podcast The Los Feliz Murder Mansion. Inner Sanctum was an anthology which aired between 1941 and 1952. It dealt mostly with murder mysteries, but occasionally ventured into the horror genre as well. Although it remains uncertain just how many episodes were made (some sources list over 500), there appear to be around 140 in circulation, all in half-hour format. A separate series of the same name was produced in Australia around 1942.

"And then he took his hammer, his wife’s blood dropping from it and leaving a trail, and he walked down the hallway towards his daughter Judy’s room..." A quote from today's second tale. The first is the story of a Florida teacher who in 2012, became convinced that some of her teenage students were possessed by demons, so she took them on a very ill-advised and highly illegal field trip. The second story is that of Los Feliz’s supposedly haunted murder mansion where on the night of December 6th, 1959, in Dr. Harold Perelson struck his wife and daughter with a hammer. Ever since that night, the house has sat empty and many think it is haunted. Lynze also shares some more fantastic listener personal tales of terror. Through our fence, breakthrough thou not… we are protected though we may be frightened. Our life you may not steal, though we may feel SCARED TO DEATH."
In their second episode, hosts Ashley and Maci talk about "America's first serial killer" H.H. Holmes. Jeepers Creepers!Maci covers the early life of Herman Webster Mudgett, who eventually stole his last name from the fictitious British detective and became H.H. Holmes. Ashley dives into the killings of the man who built a murder hotel and killed between 27-200 people (there's a lot of different numbers out there folks) during the World's Fair in Chicago in the late 1800's, and misses a great opportunity when she compares Holmes' murder mansion setup to Home Alone and doesn't call it Holmes Alone.Do you want ad free, early release episodes, and so much more?! This week Carly covers slayer Caroline Reed Robinson, a teenager who was obsessed with her neighbor Rachel Barber. The obsession went on for years and ultimately ended in murder. Dani can’t get out of the holiday mood and covers the Los Feliz Murder Mansion. Harold Perelson murdered his wife and tried to kill his daughter before taking his own life. It's vacation time, ghouls, and Amanda and Sarah have an audio slideshow of stories and sites from cities they recently visited. Amanda opens with the Dunlora Farm House, aka the Dunlora Mansion, a former plantation estate near Charlottesville, VA with a spooky reputation that includes an evil witch and a mass murder. Sarah brings back some creepy treats from Providence, RI, where she visited the offbeat final resting place of the state's founder, Roger Williams, the fountain supposedly cursed by Edgar Allan Poe, and the artist's house that inspired H.P. Lovecraft. Other subjects covered include an in-depth ice cream discussion, a t-shirt trigger, and doing bong hits for William Penn. Recommendations: Amanda and Sarah highly recommend the new folk horror film Midsommar. Amanda recommends the Starz original series Ash vs. Evil Dead and the 1987 movie Dolls. After several attempts, Troy and I have finally braved the hellish ice storm weather of February and now bring you a new Beyond Naschy episode! It wasn't easy. After years of speaking about MURDER MANSION in passing, we at long last discuss the film at length even if we may set a new NaschyCast record for conversational tangents. Seriously- we talk a bit about the HIGHLANDER film series as well as the TERMINATOR movies and Joe Lansdale stories before we launch into a navel gazing meditation on the permanence of podcasts as a form. Whew! We need to podcast more often, I think. If you've never seen MURDER MANSION you really should catch it as soon as possible. This one is fairly easy to come by on DVD and even on several streaming services so, unlike some of the movies we cover, the special antenna isn't necessary. We don't spoil the ending of the movie in this episode but you might want to avoid online reviews of the film if you want to reach the final act with the mystery still intact. The movie is a great combination of several horror themes including the Old Dark House setting, the Agatha Christie Ten Little Indians plot, lurking ghosts, tales of vampires and even a touch of giallo stalker flair to spice up the stew. In incompetent hands this mélange could have been a disaster, but the magic of that amazing year of 1972 seems to have made blending them somehow achievable. All we can do is be happy they once made movies like this! The mailbag over-floweth this month as several fine folks write in to congratulate us for five years of podcasting.
