Alexander shares the importance of building genuine relationships with our Slavic neighbors as a way to foster community and share the gospel. He also reflects on how owning a decking company has been a blessing to his involvement in church ministry.Takeaways:+A lot of Slavic people struggle to connect with locals.+Short-term friendliness often masks deeper cultural barriers.+Inviting Slavic families for dinner can help build connections.+Genuine friendship is key to sharing the gospel.+Don't approach relationships with an agenda; be authentic.+Understanding shared human experiences fosters deeper connections.+Jesus' relationship with Zacchaeus serves as a model for friendship.+Cultural differences should be acknowledged and embraced.+Long-term relationships are more effective for gospel sharing.+Building trust takes time and effort, but is worthwhile.00:00 Introduction and Alex's Background03:42 Exposure to Christianity and Identity Crisis06:33 Desire to Get Closer to God and Discovering the Scriptures10:01 Immigrating to Canada and Motivating Factors11:51 The Slavic Community and Views on Evangelical Protestantism14:27 Openness and Hardness to the Gospel in the Slavic Community17:55 Journey from Coming to Christ to Pastoring a Church23:48 Glorifying God in Business and Ministry32:42 Tropinka Summer Camp: Reaching the Slavic Community36:04 The Co-Vocational Model: Everyone in Ministry38:50 The Current State of the War in Ukraine41:35 Connecting with and Supporting Slavic NeighborsTo learn more about Tropinka Summer Camp visit https://www.tropinka.ca/. Dame Emmeline Tanner writes of the Renaissance that its "special characteristic was the revolt against authority and the rise to importance of the individual." Politically, "the Renaissance marks the death of the idea of the universal authority of the Empire." Ecclesiastically, "the period marks the breaking-up of the idea of the World Church and the rise of national churches. The authority of the Church was overthrown, and in Teutonic lands the Renaissance became the Reformation." This is a book about broad concepts and remarkable individuals: the Borgia Pope, Alexander VI, the Emperor Charles V, Queen Elizabeth of England, Martin Luther, John Calvin, William the Silent, and Philip II of Spain and his terrible Inquisition.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Luminaries series is a collection of interviews with premier thinkers working in the theological academy and the church. Dr. William T. Cavanaugh is a prolific theologian, professor at Depaul University in Chicago, and is known especially for his work in political theology. He is also a husband and father of three sons. In this interview, Professor Cavanaugh and I talk about a whole host of subjects, including Cavanaugh's mentor, Stanley Hauerwas, the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade, and the dangers of Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Apologies for the glitches and poor sound quality in parts of the episode. We are actively working to strengthen WiFi signals and microphone quality. Clive Calver, author and former President of World Relief, argues that the Western Church has as much to learn from the Second and Third World Church as it has to offer.
Despite decades of separation, Methodists yearned to be together in full communion once more. Not only was a union created with the Evangelical United Brethren, but together they boldly pushed forward for the inclusion of full clergy status of women. Grace would be the calling card of Methodism moving forward. Associated Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 […]
It seems like the world is spiraling Toward A One World Political Body, it is not surprising that what is known by the world as The Church is doing likewise. Now more than ever the leaders of major denominations of Christianity are calling each other to join with other faiths in what we know as INTERFAITH. Of course, like the One World Order, this has been prophesied to happen. Tonight, we will examine just how it is happening and look at some of the key players.
PART 4 – Jack Hunter (1916-1994) preaches on the “one world church” of the end times, mystery Babylon the Great. He traces Babylon through Scripture from Genesis to Revelation and gives pertinent warnings about the present ecumenical movement, the precursor to the “Mother of Harlots” of the period known as the great tribulation. Reading: Revelation 17-18. (Preached in Ayr, Scotland, in 1982) The post The One World Church of the End Times (52 min) first appeared on Gospel Hall Audio.
Prof Francis Anekwe Oborji is the first African to hold the chair of contextual theology at the Pontifical Urban University, Rome. A renowned missiologist, consummate writer, and public intellectual, he speaks in this first part of our conversation of his dreams and hopes for the Church in Africa. He argues that Africans must confront the burdens of our history and address complex questions around identity and statehood amidst the crisis facing many African nations today. For the Church in Africa, he warns that "a mendicant church will have no respect in the World Church." The Church in Africa, he proposes, must look towards the Sahara rather than towards the Mediterranean. His roadmap for the ongoing synod for Africa is as convincing as they are challenging. This is Prof Oborji at his best. The second part of this episode will be broadcast next week.
Episode 3: Rise of the Majority World Church Today we hear from Lazarus Phiri (Zambia), Carlos Abarca (Costa Rica), Adrian de Visser (Sri Lanka), Jake Abraham (US/India), Derek Seipp (US), and Oscar Muriu (Kenya). In our conversations with them, we explore what it means that the Majority World church is now a significant player in global missions, and how beneficial this shift is to the fulfillment of God's global mission. Multiple guests have mentioned that the largest churches in Europe were planted by Africans. One of these that we touch on briefly is in Ukraine. The current war was not a reality yet when we recorded this episode, so is not discussed. However, the devastation in Ukraine is real and the courage of the Ukrainian people is admirable. If you would like to help meet practical needs for Ukrainian refugees, please visit https://unto.com/survival/ Many thanks to Intervaristy for permission to use the clip of Pastor Oscar Muriu; you can find his full talk at Urbana 2006 at https://vimeo.com/69504380; it is well worth your 30 minutes. Bios and links for our hosts and guests can be found at Cru.org/MissionShift. Our journey exploring the changing face of global missions will span eight episodes, and then we will begin releasing longer versions of our interviews with the guests we hear from throughout the eight episodes. Mission Shift is hosted by Carita Chen and Josh Irby. -- Mission Shift is a production of Cru's City Global team. We would love to journey with you as you explore and engage in the changing face of global missions. Reach us at MissionShift@Cru.org.

The church in many parts of the Majority (or developing) World is growing strongly, while in New Zealand and other countries in the west, the statistics are often a little less encouraging. Why is this? Is it just cultural factors, or are there things the church in places outside of the west is doing that we need to learn from? Fraser Scott and Kevin Honore look at five key things we can learn from what the church is doing in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America that might help us to turn things around. The Light of the World Church (TLOW), with over 15,000 temples in 58 countries, claims to be the restoration of the early church of Christ. Although official doctrinal documents are rare, we can trace their central doctrines from its hymnology and other sources. When we analyze three critical doctrines held by TLOW, comparing them to early Christian orthodoxy and early heresies, TLOW aligns more with ancient heresies condemned by the early church. However, rather than being discouraged by the apparent success of TLOW, we should be encouraged to train ourselves so that we may be ready to present a rational defense of the gospel with gentleness and respect.
