Sam Lofton's childhood was full of sports and competitiveness with her two siblings. She had difficulties along the way by the way of experiencing different emotions stemming from a traumatic head injury her sister faced while Sam was a youth player, which cut her own soccer career short. Julia Mancuso is one of the most decorated US Ski Team members in history. Everyone who wants to be a professional has his or her own motivation. For Ghanaian Mohammed Dauda, it was to honor his family. Neither of his parents wanted him to be a professional football (soccer) player and wanted him to seek an education. After his father passed away he told his mother that he wanted to be a pro and she supported his dream.Now, he's a professional player in Europe and has a contract with Anderlecht, one of the top teams in Belgium and is also on loan in Denmark so he can get more playing time. Cobi Jones is an icon of men's soccer in the United States. He came to the scene during a time when soccer in the US started the boom that led to what it is today...a continuously massively growing sport in this country.After starring at UCLA, he went to England and then Brazil to play professionally. Mohini Bhardwaj's parents believed in supporting her when she told them she wanted to move from Cincinnati and train in Orlando, all in hopes of making the 2000 USA Gymnastics Team. Her dreams to make that team were not quite answered but she continued her pursuit and eventually made the 2004 team and was named captain for the Olympics in Athens...all the while living away from home. Paige Tonz says she went into her college softball career with low confidence. Despite this, her athletic ability took her to Northwestern University and playing in the Big Ten Conference. Oguchi Onyewo, also known as Gooch, spent 10 years on the US Men's National Soccer Team and played on numerous European club teams, before finally capping his career off with Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.Gooch is a first generation American whose parents emigrated from Nigeria and worked diligently to provide for him and his four siblings to help them excel in whatever they chose to do in life. It just so happened to be soccer that Gooch focused on and he had a strong desire to be the best since he was a young child. Where did that drive come from?
