This episode of the Addicted Minds podcast features a critical discussion on the escalating crisis of teen addiction and mental health, highlighting the vital work of the Free Mind Campaign. Host Duane Osterlind speaks with Jasmine Kenney from the CDC's Division of Overdose Prevention and Dr. Meena Mirhom from Athletes for Hope, who detail the necessity of addressing substance misuse among young people aged 12 to 17. The guests explain that mental health struggles—fueled by social pressures, bullying, and social media—often lead teens to self-medicate with increasingly potent and accessible substances, including highly concentrated cannabis, illegal vapes, and fentanyl-laced drugs. The conversation stresses the need for non-judgmental support from trusted adults and peers to break the cycle of shame and isolation. The guests showcase the innovative approaches used by the Free Mind Campaign and Athletes for Hope to reach youth. Jasmine Kenney outlines the CDC's mobile-friendly resources for parents, like conversation cards and an interactive graphic novel for teens, designed to facilitate dialogue and education. Dr. Mirhom explains how partnering with celebrity athletes provides powerful role models who use their platforms to talk openly about mental health and healthy coping strategies, demonstrating to young people that "it's okay to not be okay" and that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Ultimately, the discussion emphasizes that hope and effective mental health treatment are available to help youth navigate these challenges and build a supportive ecosystem across their communities.Key Discussion PointsThe Problem: Addiction and overdose deaths are at an epidemic level among young people.Real-World Impact: Dr. Mirhom shares firsthand accounts of seeing individuals struggling with substance use in communities near where they were holding discussions with middle schoolers, highlighting that this is not an abstract issue for teens.Accessibility: Substances, some similar in compound to heroin, are readily accessible—sometimes even at local delis—to young people, with some as young as 11 being asked to carry drugs.
Bryce Bennett has a new title, and it's his favorite one yet: dad. The two-time Olympic skier is going for his third Olympic Team. Bryce is 33 and has spent nearly half his life on the U.S. Ski Team. Bryce and his wife, Kelley, welcomed their first child, a daughter, this spring. "You have this thing that is totally dependent on you," Bennett said. "You're in total love with it. And you will do anything to give it as many opportunities as you can." One of those opportunities will be a front row seat to her dad trying to make his third Olympic Team after 14 years of competing with the U.S. Ski Team around the world. "Kelley is going to come over, and we're going to rent an apartment and spend a lot of time in Europe this winter. The little baby is going to come over, and we're just going to live life and figure it out," Bennett said. Bryce grew up in Tahoe City, CA, and skied at Palisades Tahoe as a kid. He was a teenager when he made the U.S. Ski Team. In the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, he finished 17th (Super G-Men) and 19th (Downhill - Men). In the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, he finished 16th (Downhill - Men) and 17th (Super Combined - Men). His goal for 2026? "My ideal year this year would be have an insane season, which is doable. Win the Olympics, take your trophies, and put them deep in the basement. And then go on and live your life," Bennett said. Bryce is known for a few things off the snow. One, he has a lot of hobbies, including fishing. You'll see as many "big ole fish" pictures on his Instagram feed as you do ski runs. The second is his incredible sense of humor. And that's why I picked Bryce to lead off our launch of Dying to Ask: The Road to Milan-Cortina. Get ready to laugh out loud as Bryce describes what it's like to be a pro skier when you're 6 feet 7 inches tall. Find out why being a parent as a winter Olympic athlete is like being a unicorn on the U.S. Olympic Team. And get some perspective on why being in tunnel vision with a goal is pointless. On this Dying to Ask: The Road to Milan-Cortina: How rare it is to be a parent on the U.S. Olympic Team The edge Olympians say parenthood gives them How Bryce stays motivated after spending nearly half his life on the U.S. Ski Team The value of having hobbies outside your day job Other places to listen CLICK HERE to listen on iTunes CLICK HERE to listen on Stitcher CLICK HERE to listen on Spotify See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel

They also delve into the latest news, including some new footage from the upcoming season. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:6:07) Do you have a Menchie's Frozen Yogurt near you? If so, make sure you stop there on December 10! The new Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 posters depict the giants, Polyphemus, and even the sirens. Did you hear about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians official podcast? Rick is the Indigo Author of the Month, which means it's the perfect time to pick up the Sea of Monsters Deluxe Collector's Edition. (Rick shows off what it looks like on his Instagram.) Illumicrate is reprinting their exclusive Percy Jackson and the Olympians set! This is your sign to pick it up if you missed out last time. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 revisit (00:18:44) It's time to jump into our revisit of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, starting with–you guessed it–episode 1! Walker is so young in these episodes! And Young Percy is masterful in those early scenes (and the later ones, too!). We're still impressed with the CGI in this show. The cabin scene is so emotional–both Walker and Virginia bring their A-Game. Honestly, this pilot is one of the best we've ever seen. Our first question after jumping into episode 2 is whether we'll see the Council of Cloven Elders again. Will we get another montage in season 2 of all the things Percy got better at?? Was Annabeth watching Percy the whole time, or was she following Clarisse instead? How big are the other symbols going to be when kids start getting claimed? Clarisse is a textbook bully, and we're so excited to see her growth in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Grover is smarter than both Chiron and Mr. D, and we'll be taking no objections to that. Episode 3 is fantastic for so many reasons, but especially the growth of the trio's relationship. Percy earned a lot of Annabeth's respect when he talked about why he chose her for the quest. Grover stood up to his friends, and that's super difficult. Percy IS impertinent. Medusa was a standout in this episode–especially her speech about how the gods are the real monsters. Episode 4 begins with Young Percy in the pool and ends with current-day Percy in the river. It's good that Percy got to see that not all mythological creatures are monsters. Will we see more of the Mist in season 2? Echidna was super terrifying, actually. Episode 5 is a standout, for sure. We get Percy and Annabeth's first hug, so mark that down. But the real emotional epicenter of this episode is during the chair scene and Annabeth's speech to Hephaestus. Ares is the worst, but we still kind of love him. “Thank you for the cheeseburgers and the emotional abuse.” Yeah, they're not going to shy away from his abusive relationship with Clarisse. Oh, Leah Jeffries is a PROFESSIONAL. Will they have a callback to this episode once Aphrodite is introduced? Episode 6 brings us to the Lotus Hotel and Casino. We also meet Hermes in this episode, and it's interesting to see Annabeth's interactions with him. We talk about Clarisse a little, too, and how she differs from Annabeth but has her own strengths.. Percy misses out on his dad, unfortunately. In episode 7, we get the long-awaited mattress shop scene, even if it was pretty brief. Cerberus is super cute, and Annabeth is so smart! We don't always love flashbacks, but they work super well in this show. How do we feel about Hades' casting? The best moment from this episode might just be the diner scene when Poseidon shows up. Finally, we talk about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 finale. Percy vs. Ares was awesome, especially that ichor effect. It's amazing to see Percy own his abilities and the relationship with his dad. What did we think of the look of Olympus? Lance Reddick will always be our Zeus. Poseidon totally still has the hots for Sally. We can't help but notice the lighting for the scene between Luke and Percy at the end. Grover's Searcher's license is a flower!! We're so excited for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. It won't be long now! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 147, where we'll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 1, as well as all the latest news. Send us a textIn this episode, Dove Putterman breaks down one of the most misunderstood topics in the fitness world: waist trainers vs. weight belts — what they are, what they're not, and why so many athletes are confused about them. What starts as playful banter quickly shifts into a real conversation as Dove explains why LPF trainers don't recommend waist trainers, how they affect breathing, posture, and body dysmorphia, and why they're used more for aesthetics than function. She opens up about the psychology behind them, the insecurities they can amplify, and the pressure many women feel to “snatch” their waist instead of strengthening their core. The conversation dives into the appropriate use of weight belts — when they matter, when they're unnecessary, and why they should never be a substitute for building real stability. It's practical, relatable, and brutally honest — a conversation every athlete, competitor, or gym-goer should hear. Dr. Dove Putterman is a wife and a proud mother of FIVE amazing children! Seven years after giving birth to triplets, she stepped on stage for the first time and went on to earn her Wellness IFBB Pro card at the Natural Canadian Pro Qualifier. Struggling with core control issues after pregnancy, she discovered Low Pressure Fitness through the bodybuilding community which not only transformed her physique and remedied her lower back pain, but also inspired her to become a coach working with athletes from amateur competitors to Olympians and helping them master core control for posing, training and stability not to mention developing that hourglass shape on stage!https://www.instagram.com/drdove_ifbbprohttps://www.fitbodyfusion.com/pages/online-competition-coachingWelcome to FitBody Lifestyle the podcast hosted by Jami and Greg DeBernard! After nearly 400 conversations with Olympians, Paralympians, and trailblazing women athletes from 55 countries, one thing is clear: no two stories are alike. Some athletes train with world-class facilities, others without basic equipment. Some are household names, others are fighting for visibility in sports you've never even seen on TV. And yet, across all these differences, certain themes echo again and again. That's what this new Best Of series is all about: spotlighting both the range of experiences and the threads that connect them. We've pulled together the most powerful moments across years of conversations, including:✨ Best Advice to Younger Selves — from “give yourself grace to be a beginner” to “don't dim your light for anyone.” ✨ Best Stories of Resilience — tales of athletes coming back from devastating injuries, near-misses, and moments when the world doubted them most. ✨ Best Moments of Role Modelship — athletes lifting the next generation, mentoring teammates, and carrying entire communities with them to the world stage. ✨ Best Stories of Identity & Joy — how athletes embrace who they are on and off the field, from glitter on the track to pride in their heritage.…and many more! You'll hear voices as different as the sports they represent, yet together, they reveal what it really takes to rise to the top. This isn't just one story. It's hundreds woven together. And this is just the beginning. In this episode, Reframing the Impossible, Kimberley Alkemade (Netherlands, para athletics) shares a profound moment of connection with her late mother after winning gold in the same country where she lost her leg. Dana Mathewson (USA, wheelchair tennis) opens up about the deep self-consciousness she faced after acquiring a disability as a child and how sport became her path to freedom and self-acceptance. Ashley Dyce (USA, para powerlifting) recounts the moment she discovered the Paralympics on TV and decided to change her life, eventually choosing powerlifting over track to pursue strength. Angelina Lanza (France, para athletics) advocates for equal visibility, pay, and the freedom for female athletes to wear what makes them feel confident and perform their best. Mansi Joshi (India, para badminton) challenges media narratives, urging for coverage that focuses on athletic achievement rather than disability and inspiration porn.Together, these athletes redefine what is possible, moving beyond limitations and societal expectations to claim their space as fierce competitors and powerful advocates.Flame Bearers is a women's sports storytelling studio, illuminating the unsung stories of exceptional women athletes from around the world. This week, Emily's sitting down with Olympic Gold Medalist, professional volleyball player, founding athlete for League One Volleyball, and co-owner of Love Nebraska, Jordan Larson. A lot has happened since our first chat in 2021. Jordan dives deep into the personal and professional work that has allowed her to maintain elite performance over an impressive 16+ season career. "The Governor" (Jordan's nickname) opens up about the immense internal work required to evolve from being a quiet "leader by action" to a vocal and empathetic captain for her team. Jordan also shares her experience navigating a difficult personal period, including a divorce, and how she learned to separate her self-worth from her on-court performance. It's a candid conversation about finding inner peace, the importance of "failing fast" to learn, and her excitement for growing the future of women’s volleyball in the United States through ventures like Love Nebraska and League One Volleyball. This is a masterclass in resilience, leadership, and the power of continual evolution. In This Episode: 16+ Seasons of Elite Performance: Jordan shares what still excites her about lacing up and how she remains a student of the sport after almost two decades. The Evolution of Leadership: We discuss the shift from being a "leader by action" to a vocal, empathetic captain who builds deeper connections with her teammates. Beyond the White Lines: Why true success and team cohesion require knowing the person behind the athlete, not just their on-court skill. The Hardest Hurdle: Jordan opens up about the immense internal work required to find peace and process her divorce, and how she used that time to define her self-worth outside of volleyball. Failing Fast: The necessity of taking risks in practice and the importance of a "goldfish mindset" for quick failure and recovery. Love Nebraska and League One Volleyball: Her passion for growing the sport domestically and the importance of creating opportunities for female athletes to thrive at home. Advice to Her Younger Self: The importance of being able to sit in the hard, uncomfortable feelings instead of running from them. QUOTABLE MOMENTS

From walk-on to Olympian, Emily Mackay has rewritten every expectation. Now, she's back on the show to open up about the reinvention that's powering the best chapter of her career.Emily ran collegiately at Binghamton University, where her best NCAA finish was 6th in the 1500m as a senior in 2022. She joined New Balance Boston that summer of 2022, while training under coach Mark Coogan. What followed was a rapid improvement as a professional, lowering her 1500m personal best from 4:08.97 to 3:59.99 in 2023. Emily was then one of America's best female middle distance runners in 2024. In addition to her 1500m exploits, her 800m season's best of 1:57.87 ranked sixth in the US that year. She also ran in the 1500m semifinals in the Paris Olympics. In 2025, Mackay finished 4th in the 3,000m at the US indoor championships in February, and took 10th at Tokyo in the 1500m semifinals with a 4:08.19. Emily signed with New Balance in 2022, and while she was formerly part of Team New Balance Boston, she has since left the team. Emily's rise is proof that belief, resilience, and reinvention can take you anywhere. If her journey fired you up, share this conversation and follow along, because her story is only getting betterTap into the Emily Mackay Special. If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! After missing out on seeing Ceili McCabe in competition this outdoor track & field season, the wait is over for running fans to see her back at a national championship, as she returned in style this past weekend with a masterclass performance at the 2025 Canadian Cross Country Championships in London. In her first national championship as a professional, the national steeplechase record holder and 2024 Olympian broke away from the field and never looked back, running nearly a minute clear of the competition to claim her second ACXC title and remove any doubt as to whether she was back to her pre-injury form. This week on The Shakeout Podcast, Ceili joins the show to recap her ACXC win, discuss her road back from injury, and share what lies ahead in 2026 in her first full season as a pro, starting with the World Cross Country Championships next month in Tallahassee, Florida. #1) Be consistent. That means training two to three classes a week. Your house does not count, coming in and assistant instructing does not count. You should be on the mat training twice a week if your intention is to get a black belt. If not….you can still get an enormous benefit of training once a week, or twice a week every other week, etc…..you just aren't going to earn a black belt until you get serious about your attendance. Just like you can get very knowledgeable about medicine and surgery at the library and attending some classes at college…..but until you commit to medical school and graduate….you will not be a doctor. #2) Train Hard, Train Smart. You can come in and give a halfhearted effort, you can come in and train like every fight is personal…..neither will earn you a black belt. The lukewarm person will not gain the real skills to pass, and definitely not survive the test, the overzealous person will end up hurting themselves or getting too injured to train frequently enough to test, or have the finesse required to become a black belt. #3) Know the Curriculum. We have had many world champions and amazing athletes at the Academy, all of them that received black belts know the curriculum and are able to teach it. You don't have to love all of it, and in fact most gravitate to one of the big four: Fighting, Forms, Self Defense, or Pad Work…but you have to know it all and be able to demonstrate it. #4) Be a Good Ambassador. In some fields your talent can make up for your personality, in martial arts it cannot. You have to be a good role model….not a perfect person, but a person in pursuit of perfection. #5) Be in Shape. You do not have to be an Olympian, D1 athlete or on the cover of Muscle and Fitness….but you should be in good cardiovascular shape, be strong, and have healthy habits. That means making sacrifices outside of the Dojo for your health and fitness and should reflect a life long goal of longevity and good overall health. #6) Be Motivated. You should come to class ready to learn and your passion for training and improving should be evident. Everyone has tough days and we are here to support your through those….but not every day. You are responsible for being passionate about growth, getting better, and being the best version of you! #7) Be Positive. Very similar to number 6, and maybe even more important. “Where attention goes, energy flows.” especially when we are talking about having a positive or negative mindset. What to find the good in your life…start looking for it, what to find the bad…..start looking for it. Find the good in martial arts, and training hard! #8) Be ok with walking alone. Walking with friends is always more fun, it just is. Training with friends is too. Understand however some of your training partners are going to break your heart. Everyone does not make it to black belt, and even some of the ones that do will quit. They are really quitting on themselves….but it feels like they are quitting on you and the Academy. That's difficult to deal with, but it's a part of high level success at anything. Sometimes we have to be ok with walking alone. #9) Bring Someone with you. The antidote for #8! Invite people to train, encourage them to stay, invest in their success and watch your success skyrocket. #10) Have a White Belt Attitude, with a Black belt Brain. White belts are so excited and grateful to train, they give it 100 percent and desperately want to improve…..their only hindrance is the lack of repetition and knowledge. As people increase in rank that fire can diminish. The saddest thing I see is a Green/Brown belt that has gone lukewarm, cynical, or thinks they know everything. Have a white belt mentality, upgraded with the reps and knowledge of a black belt. It truly is the best of both worlds.

Keith Sanderson is a four-time Olympian and World Cup Gold Medalist. We spent 3.5 hours talking non-stop about shooting. This might be the single most nugget-laden conversation I have ever had. Today I am talking with two-time Olympian and Saucony athlete Molly Huddle, who just ran the Every Woman's Marathon six months postpartum with her second baby. Molly used the race as a long training run and shares what it felt like to approach the marathon in a more relaxed, flexible way than she has in the past while still respecting how hard 26.2 miles feels at any pace. We get into how life looks right now with two young daughters, how she and her husband are tag-teaming work and parenting, and what it has been like to train and race while breastfeeding. Molly explains why she chose this marathon as a fundraising opportunity for For All Mothers+, how she approached the effort on the day, and what she learned about her current fitness and recovery. Molly also talks about where she is with professional running at age 41, her hope to qualify for another Olympic Marathon Trials, and what it means to her to compete in a “part-time” or “semi-retired” way while she leans into coaching, writing, and parenting. We talk about identity shifts in motherhood, the invisible work that goes into raising kids, and how to stay engaged with the sport even when the goals and timelines look different than they did in your twenties. Finally, Molly shares more about the new pregnancy and postpartum running book she is co-writing, the research she is excited about, and her thoughts on aging, body image, and what it really means to let running “light you up,” whatever season of life you are in. Topics Discussed: Molly's decision to run the Every Woman's Marathon six months postpartum Using a marathon as a long training run instead of an all-out effort Balancing breastfeeding, travel, and race-day logistics with a baby and a toddler Fundraising and partnering with For All Mothers+ at the race How the Every Woman's Marathon creates an unintimidating, women-centered race experience Postpartum training, injury history, and choosing a more cautious path back Shifting identity from full-time pro runner to part-time competitor, coach, and writer Motherhood, invisible labor, and how priorities around work and running change Body image, aging, and pressure around appearance and performance The new pregnancy and postpartum running book and current women's health research Support Our Sponsors: Amazfit Smartwatches – A wellness and recovery brand offering targeted supplements designed to support runners with energy, strength, and sleep. It's not completely odd for a former Olympian to return to the limelight years after competing...but rarely is it for allegedly piloting a drug ring comparable to that of El Chapo's.Ryan James Wedding now sits alongside some of America's most dangerous criminals on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list for several offences related to drug trafficking and murder. A number of Canadians have been arrested earlier this month in connection to the case, including Wedding's defence lawyer from Brampton, Deepak Paradkar. And the FBI has hiked up the reward for his arrest to $15 million USD. Host Richard Southern speaks to Calvi Leon, a crime reporter for the Toronto Star to break down how a Canadian born in Thunder Bay made his way to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list for allegedly leading one of the most prolific drug trafficking organizations in the world. Kikkan Randall is a five-time Olympian and an icon of U.S. cross-country skiing. But before all the medals and podiums, she was a high schooler with dyed hair, face paint, and a nickname that captured her energy: “Kikkanimal.” Her teammates gave it to her as a nod to the edge, spirit, and unity she brought to the team. Cross-country skiers understand that it's a sport that rewards time spent—refining muscle memory, living in a zone of discomfort, and building toward the kind of performance that only shows up after years of hard work. Raised in a family that loved the outdoors, Kikkan found herself drawn to this community of grounded, like-minded people. And as her competitive fire grew, so did her sense of camaraderie—training alongside rivals, and becoming genuine friends with competitors from places like Finland. When Kikkan crossed the finish line to Olympic gold, it was a breakthrough for American skiing. What once seemed out of reach had become reality. But her team had done more than stand on a podium, they'd changed the culture. They trained together, got to know each other outside of training, and showed up to races in face paint, neon and novelty socks. And in that show of teamwork and connection, they built something so strong that other national teams started to emulate. That same spirit followed Kikkan beyond sport. After retiring at the top of her game, she faced a breast cancer diagnosis, and her athlete mindset took control. She broke the treatment into pieces, taking it on one small battle at a time. It kept her focused on the day-to-day work rather than the big picture. It's the same mindset that carried her through five Olympics—one that relies on optimism and patience. Today, she's back where it all started, leading the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage and shaping the future of the sport she helped redefine.

“I've been thinking about it for a while… It was pretty apparent. I think because I'm very happy with how my career went, it made the decision easy. Realizing that I'm not in the mix for making teams anymore, I didn't want to keep running just to try to make USAs year in, year out. I felt good about everything and it felt like the right time.”Evan Jager, a two-time Olympian for Team USA, is ending his professional track career at the age of 36. Jager is the most decorated U.S. steeplechaser in history, winning Olympic bronze in 2016 and World silver in 2017 along with seven straight national titles from 2012 to 2018. Jager's 8:00.45 personal best, set in 2015, is the American record and he owns nine of the ten fastest marks on the U.S. all-time list. After years of injuries, Jager was able to make one last World team in 2022 and finished fourth at last year's Olympic Trials.
