The Wednesday 5ish digs what Ryan Day said at Big Ten Media Days regarding going for another national championship ("we're not 'defending' anything; we're attacking"). And is also intrigued that the College Sports Commission took all of three weeks to back off its stance and allow collectives to do their thing in the NIL space. In this episode we talk about a frame work that NJ uses to plan and execute a well rounded season and keep him motivated. While talking of Johari window framework, we touch upon his Nandi KOM, Belgium trip, Nationals and National games outings and his recent track block in the UK and his learnings from there. 30mins into the conversation we talk about how he dealt with a setback last year. While we did not name it, I thought mentioning what we were talking about will give a better context. At Nationals in 2024 he finished about 40 seconds ahead of everyone else but he was disqualified for unprofessional conduct(urinating in a bottle before the start). That was supposed to be his 10th Nationals title that ended up being not. A couple of months following that he went about winning the National games ITT. The way he dealt with it was applying, "Never Complain, Never Explain". What a classy guy. Like always there are so many take aways from any conversation with him and this time was no different. Today on the podcast is Tayshaun Ogomo. Tayshaun is a graduated senior out of Herriman High School in Utah. He will be running at Utah Sate University this fall. Tayshaun holds PRs of:800m: 1:48.87* (Altitude converted: 1:49.40)3-mile XC: 13:57 5K XC: 14:44Tayshaun just recently set the high school 4x800m National Record with the Herriman squad at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals meet. This was a statement race for the Herriman team, especially after falling short at NXN this past fall, where they were the defending champs. Tayshaun and I discussed the emotions of what it meant for that team to fall short and the mental approach he took to making the comeback. And yes, there was a comeback. At New Balance Indoor Nationals, Herriman proved they are the best team in the nation and that NXN 2024 was a fluke, winning the DMR National Title. They then followed it up with that aforementioned national title in the 4x800m. In addition to the Herriman team dynamic, Tayshaun and I discuss the impact that Doug Soles has had on his career, as well as his individual success in the sport, claiming his first state title in a walk-off win at the Utah State meet. Overall, amazing conversation with Tayshaun. You will not want to miss this one. Please consider leaving a follow and a five-star review! I am on a mission this summer to deliver the highest quality video podcast in the sport of distance-running. I hope you enjoy this episode of The Sunday Shakeout.

Send us a textToday we are tackling a topic that has consumed the country, the news, and social media, and has sparked a political firestorm in recent years—transgender athletes in sports. To date, 26 states have enacted laws banning transgender youth from participating in sports teams consistent with their gender identity. There is so much fear and misinformation around this topic, and today In the Den Sara sits down with the incredible Chris Mosier, the first openly transgender man to earn a spot on a U.S. Men's National Team. Chris and Sara talk about the reality of trans people in sports and what we can do to better understand and support the trans athletes in our lives and in the country.Special Guest: Chris MosierChris Mosier is a trailblazing athlete, coach, and founder of TransAthlete.com, the leading resource for transgender inclusion in sport. In 2015, he made history as the first openly transgender man to earn a spot on a U.S. Men's National Team, a milestone that helped catalyze policy change by the International Olympic Committee on trans athlete inclusion and earned him the title of "the man who changed the Olympics." A decorated multisport athlete, Chris is an eight-time Team USA member, five-time Men's National Champion, and Men's All-American. Chris's advocacy extends far beyond competition. Through his writing, speaking, and policy work, he has influenced trans-inclusive practices at every level of sport—from high school athletics to professional leagues. As one of the most visible voices opposing anti-trans legislation in the U.S., Chris is a driving force in the fight for trans rights and equity. Chris is a Nike-sponsored athlete featured in multiple global campaigns.
