** Recorded 3-19-24** I recently found a few quotes from a book, "Mindset Is Your Superpower" written by Allistair McCaw, where I saw this quote: "True Success is about adding value to the lives of others." This got me thinking about many different things that really connected with the previous episode about our pasts connecting with the pasts of people we love. It also got me thinking about how we connect with others that we don't even know. If we can bring value to others, and they may pass it on to others, or not; but the world does indeed become a better place when more people look to add value to others as a part of being successful themselves. I know I need to do even more of this for sure. How about you? Thanks for listening. In this week's episode, Laura welcomes Allistair McCaw, a best-selling author and speaker who is recognized as one of the world's foremost figures in leadership, team culture, and mindset. Throughout his 30-year-long career, Allistair has worked with some of the most successful athletes and organizations in the world, from Olympians and Paralympians to World Champion Athletes and Grand Slam Champions. He's also a 29-time marathon finisher and a former five-time world championship competitor in the sport of triathlon. Today, Allistair is committed to his lifelong purpose of teaching, inspiring, and motivating others to be champion minded and achieve their full potential. In this episode of the Pursuit of Gold podcast, Laura and Allistair dive deep into the growth mindset of professional athletes. Allistair begins by discussing the biggest struggles that athletes face today and explains the key difference between choice and sacrifice. As he nicely puts it, when you're passionate about something, it's not a sacrifice; it's a choice. Then, Allistair goes on to explain the importance of learning to deal with failure and overcoming perfectionism as an athlete. Being a perfectionist won't get you far in sports, but embracing failure will. Next, Laura and Allistair talk about the power of vision, the importance of developing self-leadership, and the differences between excellence and success. If you want to learn more about being champion minded, make sure you tune into this episode to hear what Allistair has to say. Episode Highlights: Allistair's background The biggest struggles that athletes face today Choice vs. sacrifice Embracing failure and overcoming perfectionism The inspiration behind Champion Minded The importance of vision for professional athletes The differences between team sports and individual sports The importance of developing leadership skills Why authenticity is key for coaches Excellence vs. success The power of the growth mindset Quotes: “We all know that progress is different for every single athlete. Sometimes you'll have spurts of growth, sometimes, you'll have spurts of confidence, which helps, and so on and so forth. But we're all on a different journey. ” “Nobody can make you hungry. No one can give you a passion. No one can tell you to enjoy it more. That really comes from within.” “You're not always going to feel like a million dollars. You're not always going to jump out of bed in the morning and can't wait to go to practice. It's impossible, no matter how dedicated or passionate you are. So for me, it was that vision or that purpose of wanting to be a champion one day, wanting to be the best I could be - that's what got me through those tougher days. ” “It has to come from within. You can't make somebody passionate. You can't make somebody do something that they don't necessarily want to do.” “You can't lead others if you're not leading yourself effectively.” “I believe that great coaches, great leaders are more about excellence than about success.” “Enjoy it; that's the most important thing. And I know that's very hard when you're in the middle of it, and especially when things aren't going well, but the journey is the most important thing about it.” “All the hard work, no matter what level you get to, no matter what your destiny is, it will never go unused; it will always be worthwhile because these are qualities that you learn in sports that will help you afterward in your relationships and in business and corporate, whatever direction you go into.” Links: The Pursuit of Gold The Confidence Journal Life at 10 Meters: Lessons from an Olympic Champion Laura Wilkinson Designs- Shop Buy Laura a Coffee Laura's Social Media: Laura's Instagram Laura's Facebook Connect with Allistair: Allistair McCaw Website Allistair McCaw's Books Allistair McCaw's LinkedIn

It was a good way to prop up our conversation and covered subjecta like, how you deal with the tough conversations, managing your energy and burn out, routines and the idea of “countback” as well many other stories and tools.I was late getting on the call to Alistair in California as my wi-fi was playing up so it seemed apt to start the chat around what he thought about timings.More About Allistair McCaw:Website - https://www.allistairmccaw.com/Podcast - https://www.allistairmccaw.com/podcastBooks - https://www.allistairmccaw.com/booksInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/bechampionminded/Twitter - https://twitter.com/AllistairMcCawLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/allistair-mccaw-552a0a89/Show Notes - https://benryan.co.uk/podcast/Listen & Subscribe to The Ben Ryan Podcast:Ben's Website - http://benryan.co.uk/bio/Apple Podcasts - https://apple.co/3B3c8HKSpotify - https://spoti.fi/3HGk8knAmazon Music - https://amzn.to/3shGDnOTuneIn - http://tun.in/pkdsmSocial:Follow me on Instagram - https://bit.ly/2Z5QSitFollow me on Twitter - https://bit.ly/3ph5W7oFollow me on LinkedIn - https://bit.ly/3ah8FtvRead about me - https://amzn.to/2NLu0CkShow Notes:Vince Lombardi - https://bit.ly/3ssjWyGSir Alex Fergusson - https://bit.ly/3gsM1k5Stephen Gerrard - https://bit.ly/3J687VEGeorge Raveling - https://bit.ly/3HR3leJNick Bollittieri - https://bit.ly/3ssQatARalph Ragnick - https://bit.ly/3LiCytKJürgen Klopp - https://bit.ly/3oxVqLxBrendan Rogers - https://bit.ly/3J2RGcOPhil Neville - https://bit.ly/3uDpnh1Graham Henry - https://bit.ly/3JhRmXTTana Umaga - https://bit.ly/3GyWc16Oprah Winfrey - https://bit.ly/3rABtFZCoach K - https://bit.ly/3HzZ8vyPep Guardiola - https://bit.ly/3sooshUEddie Jones - https://bit.ly/3B5I7XAErwin Valencia Podcast Episode - https://benryan.co.uk/podcast/episode-4-erwin-valencia/Marcelo Bielsa - https://bit.ly/3slXOGpBrentford FC - https://www.brentfordfc.com/Thomas Frank - https://bit.ly/3gNjC8BMatt Benham - https://bit.ly/3ssGqQ8Rasmus Ankerson - https://www.rasmusankersen.com/Owen Eastwood Podcast Episode - https://benryan.co.uk/podcast/episode-14-owen-eastwood/Rita Pearson TED Talk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFnMTHhKdkw

Welcome back to the Journey Of Sport Podcast With Naim. Really stoked to have the author of the book 'Be Champion Minded' on my podcast today. I cant tell you enough how much I was looking forward to recording this episode as well as publishing it. Of course I was quite nervous but, nothing a few deep breaths cant fix. Allistair McCaw is recognized as one of the world's leading figures in human performance, mindset and leadership. For over 25 years, Allistair has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies, Olympians, Grand Slam Champions, NCAA Colleges and Professional Sports Teams. An author of four best-selling books and a much sought-after keynote speaker, Allistair consults and partners with sports teams and corporations around the globe optimizing individual and group potential. His podcast, "Champion Minded" is available on iTunes and YouTube. A former five-time world championship competitor in the sport of Duathlon, 2x National fitness champion and a veteran of 29 Marathons, Allistair resides in Delray Beach, Florida.
This week I have the pleasure of bringing Allistair McCaw onto the show. I have been personally following Allistairs work for nearly four years at the time of this recording. He does incredible work in the strength and conditioning industry, as well as the leadership and consulting space. From his early years as an elite tennis player stealing information from coaches to help himself develop, to managing a gym with over 7000 members to travelling the world teaching coaches, athletes, and organizations how to improve their leadership and create long term success for themselves. In this interview we go through many important elements of the coaching industry. It is easy to get stuck in simply looking at our area, whether it be the gym or the sport, simply focusing on what the athlete needs to be doing in our space. By doing this we can forget that our athletes are people first. In order to TRULY do our job to the best of our ability, that needs to be top of mind. Getting to know our athletes on a deeper level and understanding them as people will allow us to improve our abilities to help them succeed. I chose the title "Creating Excellence In Sports And In Life" not only because this is the concept of Allistair's book "Champion Minded" but also because this is a major key to creating success as an athlete. Focusing on what you are doing OUTSIDE of the sport will be a crucial part of developing within your sport. Learn to live like a champion and you will become one. Another important takeaway from this interview is Allistair's focus on youth development. For any younger athlete that wants to reach incredible heights in their career, they may need guidance, but they must be;A) PassionateB) Hungry to succeedC) DisciplinedD) ConsistentThese traits must all be developed over time, but if you have big goals for your sport, it MUST come from you. Where does this start? It starts at home. Parents creating the environment for kids right from day one will be an incredibly important element of creating success for kids as an adult, whether in sport or not. The values and principles you display as a parent are going to be massively influential on your kids.Thank YOU for tuning in to another episode of The Elite Development Podcast! This week I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down and interviewing motivational mindset set Coach Allistair McCaw. The joys of technology meant that I could be sitting at my kitchen table at 4am and chatting to Allistair at 1pm his time in the United States. It was a good fun interview especially as I really look up to Allistair and the way he things and does things. Look him up on Facebook - The McCaw Method and look for his book Champion Minded. Since we completed this interview he has also kicked off his own podcast of the same name - Champion Minded. Sit back and enjoy a great episode with a very inspirational man. ParentingAces - The Junior Tennis and College Tennis Podcast
I had the opportunity to speak at the Middle States USPTA Conference in Philadelphia last weekend, presenting to a room full of coaches. What a treat! This week's podcast is a slightly edited recording of my presentation. You will hear questions from the audience (please forgive the sound quality as I was recording the whole thing on my iPhone) and my attempts at helping these coaches understand what parents want from them. We discuss communication, tournaments, rankings, college recruiting, and burnout among other things. I hope this presentation opens the door to many more opportunities to address coaches directly and help to bridge the gap between them and us. You will hear me reference a Facebook Live video that I did regarding USPTA certification. You can find that video at https://www.facebook.com/ParentingAces/videos/1676603665745115/. You will also hear me mention Allistair McCaw's new book, Champion Minded. Standards is a much more palatable word than rules 3 important standards for coaching: 1 - Standards for yourself 2 - Standards for your workplace/coaches 3 - Standards for your athletes Key 2 - Your Methodology/Philosophy What do you believe in? How do you believe in achieving this? Key 3 - Great coaches adapt To the unexpected. They are calm, controlled. Adapt to the generation you are working with: Listen better. Discipline. Communicate in their style: they want short bursts of information (they are the Twitter-generation.) Key 4 - Have great energy It all starts with you. You have to exude passion. People should look forward to seeing you. Key 5 - Interpersonal skills Respected. Likability. We are in the people business who play sports. Key 6 - The fundamentals Great coaches have teams that are great at fundamentals. Daniel Coyle in The Talent Code: 'Mastering the mundane.'
