"When I wake up, I'm honest with myself. Just as long as everything gets done by the end of the day, it doesn't matter when it gets done."- Victor (Curious Chicagoan, cyclist, and skateboarder) So grateful to connect with high school friend Victor after like 10 years post graduation. Victor and I jive on not being too keen on having a set itinerary & having to stick to a set schedule. We really value flexibility and being extremely intentional with our energy and actions. We discuss having a new pup and how that has been different because it brings a new sense of routine to his life and how at the end of the day he just wants her to have the best life so he is willing to adapt and change. We discuss the joy in meeting locals and having the time to explore the unknowns while traveling when you don't have a SET routine in place. The importance of enjoying the process and just being a better version of who you were... daily. So incredibly wonderful to connect with him & we wish him the BEST in life as he improves upon those skills and activities that we mention here in the episode. We all have goals & we are all taking different approaches to getting there and THAT is beautiful. "This mantra I've been really living by is: Your 9-5 is your job the way you make your money. But your 6-10 is where you get to build your empire." Josh Josh and I go way back to college time and I am SO incredibly happy to hear his voice and see his face via zoom for this interview. Josh discusses what his journey with routine has been thus far and explains this happy medium place that has really worked for him. He introduces the idea of block scheduling and I JIVE WITH THIS IDEA so much. It is something I do- but never had put a name to. He also introduces that quote above and really allows us to remember that we are NOT our jobs- if our jobs aren't our purpose. That we have so much more to create post work if you are someone in a 9-5. Your empire can include and be ANYTHING. We also discuss how LOOKING for a job, is a job in itself and we need normalize and allow people to understand that. We discuss how, for him ROUTINE leads to CONSISTENCY which leads to HABIT. So he thrives from block scheduling routine as he shifts and transitions in and out of his many different roles. One of my favorite things that he does as a part of his routine, is setting time aside to get CREATIVE daily. WE COULD ALL USE MORE OF THAT. Josh, we are cheering you on from all over the world and we know that you are stepping into ALL form of success. :) If anyone would like to connect with Josh- write to the podcast and we will connect you! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mindfulnesswbrenda/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mindfulnesswbrenda/support

"If you gave back more than you took from it (life), that is success. Provide more than you take. Whatever that means to you!" Mike K. Social hall founder and owner, Mike Kenney, leads us through many wonderful truths about what success has looked like for him throughout his 37 years of life as an entrepreneur in the restaurant industry. I met Mike at another one of his restaurants in Seattle and since then, he has expanded and moved down to Arizona to open another INCREDIBLE place. In this episode we dive into: Mike's recent recovery from an infection in his digestive track his success in building a kick ass team at Social Hall- post pandemic the idea that we aren't going to be wildly successful in every single category of our lives, and being okay with that the sacrifices he has had to make with creating and owning a restaurant and bar the different dynamics of being 37 and not yet being married or having kids (remembering- everyone's path looks VERY different) Social Hall- located in Tempe, is a restaurant everyone should check out. They have great food, great cocktails, very different spaces! Relationship success = making your partner feel seen and feeling seen yourself. Family success= unconditional support and love "you might be stupid but I'm gonna come and bail you out" type of love THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING THAT WHEN WE EAT- WE ARE FEEDING AN ENTIRE ECOSYSTEM OF GOOD BACTERIA OR BAD BACTERIA. So choose wisely. his morning gratitude practice and how it has helped him Thank you SO much Mike for sharing so many wonderful definitions and moments from your life for us to learn and grow for. "I think it's a generational thing- but I know that I'm never going to regret making a little bit less money so that I can experience life. If you make all this money and you don't have the time to spend it or don't have anyone to spend it with, it's not worth it." - Dr. Evan Sands All of these episodes were supposed to be 10 minute conversations, that quickly turned into 25 minute conversations and I'm now wishing they were each an hour. Especially this one! Once again we dive into what success means to people of all ages and professions. This episode features Evan Sands, an ER doc in Los Angeles. Evan has a very fresh perspective on success within his career that I think a lot of people in the medical profession could benefit from hearing. In this episode we touch on: his love for the ocean & why what he currently feels the most success in the open-ness within his family and how it has cultivated a successful family dynamic the importance of communicating authentically and without judgment with those closest to you the importance of therapy within a relationships "knowing when you need help and recognizing when the bullshit in your brain is not correct" people's inability to work through problems nowadays simply because the next person is just a swipe away the importance of laughter and humor within a relationship a simplistic home life success within the E.R- a story about a recent patient the rate of CPR actually working his experience with asking patients in the ICU what advice they would give to a single 33 year old man & their answers generational differences in work/life balance having to build yourself up again after enduring medical training Huge thank you to Evan for letting us in on a little bit of his life within the E.R and how he relates to success.
