What an incredible honor to spend this precious time with Samra Dresevic of Maverick Lingo, a small business in based in Lost Angeles, California. She speaks to us in her 4th language. And good luck finding any mistakes in her diction, vocabulary, or grammar. She speaks flawless English. Samra grew up Muslim in an idyllic, rural childhood only to experience massive trauma as a 10 year old when her youth was shattered by war. Her family immediately became refugees in Europe, and her life was never the same again. In her words, she lost her childhood. Many, many years later, in her 4th language, she had Professor Mather, the producer and host of The Republican Professor podcast, while a student at Loyola Marymount University in Lost Angeles, California. It was a morning class, Philosophy 160, Philosophy of Human Nature as it was called at the time, that began her friendship with the professor. [LMU has since dispensed with the course for reasons that utterly baffle all intelligent people]. That was 10 years ago as of the recording of this episode. The lines of communication and dialogue have stayed open throughout the years between Samra and the professor. Samra is now a successful small business owner, an entrepreneur, related to language learning in Lost Angeles, California, having become an American. Her company is called Maverick Lingo and you can check out her website here : https://www.mavericklingo.com/ The Republican Professor is a pro-staying-in-touch-with-the-best-students, pro-lines-of-communication-open, pro-entrepreneur, pro-small-business-owner, pro-language-learning, pro-intriguing-life-story podcast. Therefore, welcome dearest Samra Dresevic, one of my very favorite former students ever out of thousands. The Republican Professor podcast is produced and hosted by Dr. Lucas J. Mather, Ph.D.

Whether you set goals at the beginning of the year or you have resolutions you have promised yourself you'd do in the new year, now is the time to make sure you are on track so that you can follow through with your goals and resolutions for the remainder of the year. I'm sure that you've heard that most people will quit their resolution after just one week. When asked why they don't stick with their resolutions, most people will say that they don't have the time, resources or support to keep the motivation up so that they can stick to their resolution. This can be true of goals as well. When you want to ensure you are reaching your goals and sticking to your resolutions, you need to make sure you are following through. This includes checking in to see how you are doing and being truthful to yourself if you feel you are slipping and need to realign yourself so that you can continue to move forward. In today's podcast episode, I am going to help you take a realistic approach to making sure you are staying on track or picking yourself up and getting back on track early in the year. I don't want you going a few more months into this year and just giving up on your resolutions and goals. You made promises to yourself to reach these goals and today I am going hold you accountable and give you a second chance if you've found it was much easier to make your resolution than to keep your resolution. Resolutions and goals are important to your business whether you are just getting started with your business, you are a self-employed individual, a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, a remote, virtual, online or in-house bookkeeper, or a virtual assistant or VA. Many of the resolutions business owners make revolve around the organization of their financial data or bookkeeping. Listen in, and let me help you make a lasting change with the resolutions and goals you've set for this year. I've been getting quite a few messages from business owners saying that they are struggling to create a budget for their business. Some are just getting their business up and running and others have been in business for a few years. Either way, having a budget for your business will allow you to dictate how you want your money coming in and out of your business to flow. When you don't have a budget, it is easy to lose track of your numbers or your goals for the year. I often hear business owners say it is hard to create a budget, or they don't know where to start. In today's podcast episode, I am going to dive into how you can easily create a simple budget for your business and how you can get started. It doesn't have to be hard, and it doesn't need to take a long time when you know what you need to do in the first place. So, whether you are using a computerized software system like QuickBooks, Xero, Wave or FreshBooks for your business finances, or if you are doing your bookkeeping manually with an Excel spreadsheet or even a Google Document, knowing how you can create a simple and easy budget for your business will help you stick to your goals and allow you to track exactly how close you are to your original budget numbers. Whether you are just getting started with your business, you are a self-employed individual, a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, remote virtual online bookkeeper, virtual assistant or VA, you want to take the time to really look at your numbers, create a budget and use your budget as a compass to help guide your finances throughout the year… Apply to join the Mastering Your Small Business Finances CEO Mastermind or the Elevate Your Bookkeeping Business GROW Mastermind group: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Mastermind Grab Your FREE guide: 5 Essential Strategies For Stress-Free Bookkeeping: www.FinancialAdventure.com/5Essentials Looking for a payroll solution for your business? When you own your own business, it can be difficult and lonely at times. You most likely feel like every single decision that you make is essential to the success of your business, but you don't know if you are making the right decision, the wrong decision or even if it is the right time to make these decisions. This is common among entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, so don't feel like you are the only one with these feelings. In fact, there are many small business owners who don't have an advisory group or a board of directors who are available to run ideas past and help aid in the decision-making process. It is easy to do research and gather all the necessary information, but when it comes down to decision making time, many business owners just wish they had someone they could talk to, to run ideas past and to get perspective and feedback from someone who is trusted and is capable of adding valuable insight to their challenges. In today's podcast episode, I am diving deep into what a mastermind is, who masterminds are best for and what you should be asking yourself before joining a mastermind. If you are ready to proactively jump into the next year by efficiently leveling up your business, building trusted relationships, thinking bigger and getting ahead of your competition, a business mastermind may be exactly what you are looking for. It doesn't matter if you are using a computerized software system like QuickBooks, Xero, Wave or FreshBooks for your business finances, or if you are doing your bookkeeping manually with an Excel spreadsheet or even a Google Document, keeping a pulse on your business finances and making smart business decisions is key to your business success. Whether you are just getting started with your business, you are a self-employed, a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, remote virtual online bookkeeper, virtual assistant or VA, listen in so that you are equipped with the knowledge you need to accomplish your goals and bring your business to the level you are aspiring… Apply to join the Mastering Your Small Business Finances CEO Mastermind or the Elevate Your Bookkeeping Business GROW Mastermind group: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Mastermind Grab Your FREE guide: 5 Essential Strategies For Stress-Free Bookkeeping: www.FinancialAdventure.com/5Essentials Looking for a payroll solution for your business? Investing in yourself is important, and you as a business owner or potential business owner need to understand how valuable you are personally to your business. I know your time is limited and cherished. You may be thinking that if you are not working in your business and generating money that you aren't being successful. But I want you to take a step back and see just how important you, yes you, are to your business. Imagine for a minute that you were taken completely out of your business. How would your business continue? Would it run smoothly without you, or would it completely stop? When you take note of the impact you are making on your business, you may think twice about how you should be investing in yourself. When investing in yourself, each and every one of these investments will ultimately pass through to your business. This is the exact reason why it is so crucial for you to continue to invest in yourself to help your business flourish. I believe it was Tony Robbins who said, “If you are not growing, you are dying.” Let that sink in for a bit. So, if you personally are not growing, how would you be able to lead your business to grow? In today's episode, I am talking about the top ways you can invest in yourself. I'm not saying you need to spend lots of money to do this, I'll be talking about lots of ways you can do this for free or with little monetary investment. The goal here is to realize you need to do this and start on a path to continuously invest in yourself and continue to grow as a business owner. Listen in so that you have a strategic plan to invest in yourself, whether you are still working your 9 to 5, you want to start your own business, you've already started your business, you are an entrepreneur, solopreneur, bookkeeper or virtual assistant and you want to start seeing positive returns on yourself and your business… BLACK FRIDAY PROMOTION!! Even though you know you shouldn't be mixing your personal and business funds together, we know it happens, and I totally understand that there are times when this may be happening in your business. I have seen many times when cash falls short, and the business owner needs to inject additional funds into the business. Where does this money come from? Well, to be honest, most often, it is the business owner using their personal funds to help increase the cash needed in the business. In today's episode, I am going to cover how you should be recording these personal funds you may be depositing into your business when you do your own bookkeeping. It doesn't matter if you are using a computerized bookkeeping system like QuickBooks, Wave, Xero or FreshBooks or a manual system such as an Excel spreadsheet, you'll know exactly how to record these deposits you make into your business from your personal funds. Whether you are just getting ready to start your small business, you're a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, virtual online bookkeeper or virtual assistant, making sure you are correctly recording any personal funds you put into your business will be extremely important. Recording personal funds in your business can be tricky and you want to make sure you are capturing and recording all of these transactions so that your business financial statements reflect all of your business transactions accurately. These personal funds may be in the form of an injection of additional personal funds you put into the business, or you may find yourself as the business owner making a purchase for the business with your personal funds. These purchases could be made with your personal cash, a personal check or even your personal credit card. Although mixing your personal and business funds is never recommended, there are situations where this does happen, and you need to make sure you are recording them correctly. In today's episode, I am going to talk about how you should handle any business expenses that are paid by you personally and in the next episode, I am going to talk about how you should be recording any money you are putting into your business personally. I know these two topics are important to you as a business owner and I want to make sure you understand how you should be recording each of these situations. Listen in for part one of this series on personal funds and your business today as I help you ensure that any time you have a business expense that you pay for personally you record it correctly in your accounting and bookkeeping system. It doesn't matter if you are using a computerized bookkeeping system like QuickBooks, Wave, Xero or FreshBooks or a manual system such as an Excel spreadsheet, you'll know exactly how to record these transactions. Are you taking the time to review your financial statements each month? Do you understand what your financial statements are telling you about your business? Most people will look at their Balance Sheet and Income Statement when they review their financial statements, but today I am going to talk about another report that you should be looking at on at least a monthly basis as well. This report is your General Ledger Detail Report. In this episode, I am going over what this report tells you as well as why you should review it to ensure your financial statements are correct. If you do your bookkeeping manually or you use an Excel spreadsheet, I'll also be giving some tips on what you can do to review this same type of information so that you can feel good about your financial information. Whether you are just getting ready to start your small business, you're a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, virtual online bookkeeper or virtual assistant reviewing your General Ledger Detail Report will give you the confidence that your financial statements are accurate, and you can rely on them to make sound business decisions throughout the year. We all know how much the world relied on virtual technology over this past year due to the pandemic. Teachers, students and even businesses had to rely on virtual technology more than ever. Many businesses were already using some sort of virtual technology and others jumped on the technology bandwagon quickly. Whether you were already using this virtual technology, or you just decided to start using it, you more than likely found that it helps you and your business save time and money. Today I am going to talk about ways you can manage virtual or paperless business documents so that your business can operate smoothly and eliminate the burden of piles and piles of paperwork cluttering up your office. You may even be wondering how you can share this information virtually with your bookkeeper or accountant if you are working closely with them on your business finances. Most accountants and bookkeepers have a system set up for situations like this, but if you find your accountant or bookkeeper is a little behind in the times, you can offer up these ideas to help them work more efficiently with you. If you are a bookkeeper yourself and you help small businesses with their bookkeeping, you will want to make sure you are up to date with these processes as well so that you are making a positive impact on your clients. Whether you are just getting ready to start your small business, you're a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, virtual online bookkeeper or virtual assistant staying up to date on these virtual and paperless processes will help you save time and money in the long run. And, speaking of virtual technology, I will also be talking about an upcoming virtual event called Money, Faith, and Business that Jennifer Allwood and over 35 other speakers are holding. Many of my favorite top female business leaders are gathering to help business owners like you overcome money mindset issues and get solid business strategies. You'll hear from leading female entrepreneurs like Jordan Lee Dooley, Christy Wright, Jaime Cross, Julie Stoin, Angelica Duncan, Sandi Krakowski and many more. Listen in, I even have a special invitation for you to attend… Get the full details and sign up for the Money, Faith and Business virtual event here: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Resources Fill out the Contact Us form if you have a question or need help with your bookkeeping: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Contact-Us Grab Your FREE guide: 5 Essential Strategies For Stress-Free Bookkeeping: www.FinancialAdventure.com/5Essentials Register For My 4 Step Framework For Creating A Profitable Bookkeeping Business (Or Improve Your Existing Bookkeeping Business) Masterclass Here: www.FinancialAdventure.com/MasterClassRegistration Your FREE Online Virtual Bookkeeping Business Starter Guide & Success Path is waiting for you: www.FinancialAdventure.com/StarterGuide Sign up for a quick chat to see if starting a Virtual Online Bookkeeping Business is right for you: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Discovery Join Our Facebook Community: www.Facebook.com/Groups/WomenBusinessOwnersUltimateDIYBookkeepingBoutique QuickBooks Online - Save 50% Your First 3 Months: www.FinancialAdventure.com/QuickBooks Show Notes: www.FinancialAdventure.com This podcast is sponsored by Financial Adventure, LLC ~ visit www.FinancialAdventure.com for additional information and free resources.

One of the questions I receive from clients is how to transfer funds in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. Both have an extremely simple way to do this, but if you are unsure about how to do it, or you do it incorrectly, you could be causing your balance sheet and your income statement to reflect the wrong information. Recording all your transactions is important to make sure your bank reconciliation goes smoothly. Making sure each of these transactions are classified to the correct account will not only ensure your transactions are showing up in the correct accounts, but it will also make sure that your balance sheet and your income statement are accurate. You don't want to overstate your income by recording a transaction that should have been a simple transfer from one account to another. When you think about a paperless business, does this sound like a dream come true, or do you view it more as a nightmare? There are many businesses that don't even offer a paper receipt anymore. So, when you don't have a receipt, how are you supposed to even manage it? My clients will ask me about the best way to manage their business receipts, and unfortunately, my answer is normally: It depends. I know this isn't a good answer, and it surely isn't what the client wants to hear, but the main reason for the unclear answer really is because every business is unique, and every business owner is unique. I always talk to my clients to see what the best option is for them. I want to make sure the option they select is something they are able to do, and they are consistent. Your overall goal when setting up a system to manage your receipts should be to make it as simple as possible while developing a system where you will be able to find your receipts when needed. Today I am going to talk about the best ways to manage your receipts using paper and paperless options whether you are using a software like QuickBooks or Xero or you do your bookkeeping manually. If you feel like this is an area in your business where you struggle to have a good system in place, or if you already have a system in place, but wonder if there is an easier way to manage your receipts, you definitely want to listen in. This episode will be helpful for you whether you are just starting your small business, you're a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, virtual online bookkeeper, virtual assistant or VA. Every business has receipts they need to manage, and after this episode, you will be able to decide which system will work best for you to be able to locate your receipts easily when you need to… Want To Create A Profitable Bookkeeping Business (Or Improve Your Existing Bookkeeping Business), Check Out My Elevate Your Bookkeeping Business Program: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Elevate-Waitlist Grab Your FREE guide: 5 Essential Strategies For Stress-Free Bookkeeping: www.FinancialAdventure.com/5Essentials Your FREE Online Virtual Bookkeeping Business Starter Guide is waiting for you: www.FinancialAdventure.com/StarterGuide Fill out the Contact Us form if you are a small business owner looking for a qualified bookkeeper: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Contact-Us Sign up for a quick chat to see if starting a Virtual Online Bookkeeping Business is right for you: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Discovery Join Our Facebook Community: www.Facebook.com/Groups/WomenBusinessOwnersUltimateDIYBookkeepingBoutique QuickBooks Online - Save 50% Your First 3 Months: www.FinancialAdventure.com/QuickBooks Show Notes: www.FinancialAdventure.com This podcast is sponsored by Financial Adventure, LLC ~ visit www.FinancialAdventure.com for additional information and free resources.

Automating your transactions is one of the major ways you can save time when you are doing your bookkeeping. By utilizing systems such as QuickBooks Online's bank feeds, you can definitely save a lot of time rather than manually entering each and every transaction, but the only way you will ensure you have reliable financial statements ( Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss or Income Statement ) is to make sure you have it set up correctly. I've seen clients who have set up bank feeds and not follow the correct steps who look at their financial statements and wonder why nothing looks right. This is exactly what happens when you hear the phrase garbage in / garbage out. If you don't take the time to set everything up correctly in the beginning, you won't be able to rely on your financial statements. You don't want to find yourself putting in all the work only to have inaccurate information. In today's episode, I am going to walk you through how you should set up and use the bank feeds in QuickBooks Online to ensure you are using it to its fullest potential. By setting up your bank account connection, managing bank rules, matching transactions and adding transactions correctly in QuickBooks Online, you will surely not only save time, but you will have reliable financial statements allowing you to make smart business decisions. If you already use bank feeds or if you have been thinking about getting them set up, but are unsure how to use this function correctly, listen in to find out what your next steps should be to take full advantage of this feature, whether you are just starting your small business, you're a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, virtual online bookkeeper or virtual assistant… Want To Create A Profitable Bookkeeping Business (Or Improve Your Existing Bookkeeping Business), Check Out My Elevate Your Bookkeeping Business Program: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Elevate-Waitlist Grab Your FREE guide: 5 Essential Strategies For Stress-Free Bookkeeping: www.FinancialAdventure.com/5Essentials Your FREE Online Virtual Bookkeeping Business Starter Guide is waiting for you: www.FinancialAdventure.com/StarterGuide Fill out the Contact Us form if you are a small business owner looking for a qualified bookkeeper: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Contact-Us Sign up for a quick chat to see if starting a Virtual Online Bookkeeping Business is right for you: www.FinancialAdventure.com/Discovery Join Our Facebook Community: www.Facebook.com/Groups/WomenBusinessOwnersUltimateDIYBookkeepingBoutique QuickBooks Online - Save 50% Your First 3 Months: www.FinancialAdventure.com/QuickBooks Show Notes: www.FinancialAdventure.com This podcast is sponsored by Financial Adventure, LLC ~ visit www.FinancialAdventure.com for additional information and free resources.

Cash flow refers to the money moving in and out of your business. When you have a positive cash flow, it simply means that you have enough money to manage the payments of any money that goes out of your business. If you have more money coming into your business than going out, you will have obtained a positive cash flow. Many business owners think the only way they can increase their cash flow is to increase their sales or increase their net income. This statement is partially true. You will increase your cash flow if you see additional sales, but what if you could increase your cash flow without adding any additional sales? If you are experiencing a tight cash flow, or maybe even a negative cash flow, there are things you can do in your business right now to help give your cash flow a boost without increasing your sales. I understand there may be times in your business when you really rely on having enough cash flow to get by, and I know this past year has been hard for a number of small business owners. If you are using a computerized software solution such as QuickBooks, you can easily generate a cash flow statement to see exactly where your business stands. Today, I am going to talk about one simple tip you can do to help increase your cash flow whether you are just starting your small business, you're a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, virtual online bookkeeper or virtual assistant. Your cash flow will be a huge contributor to making sure your business will survive, so listen in and make sure you follow this one simple tip... When you have a small business, it is easy to think you can handle all of the tasks that need to be completed and wear the many hats that come with owning a business. This may be true or even possible when you are just starting your business, but as your business grows and each task starts to take more time, you will find you may not be able to handle everything yourself and may need help. One of the first tasks small business owners look at hiring out is their bookkeeping. It is often listed as the most frustrating aspect of owning a small business and it doesn't matter if you are doing your bookkeeping manually or using QuickBooks, Xero or Wave to help automate your bookkeeping. You may have felt this way and wanted to hire a bookkeeper from the very beginning of starting your business if you didn't feel qualified or confident doing your bookkeeping, or maybe you really like keeping track of all the money coming in and going out of your business. Either way, there are some pretty important signs you will notice in your small business which will help you make the decision of whether or not you need to hire a bookkeeper to help you master your small business finances. Many small business owners think hiring a bookkeeper is expensive, but in reality, depending on how many transactions you have in your business, you may be able to have your bookkeeping done for as little as $100.00 per month. Today I'm going to dive into a few of the signs you may need a bookkeeper and help you decide if and when you should start thinking about hiring a bookkeeper for your small business. Your financials tell you a lot about your business and help guide you to make sound business decisions, but when you don't have accurate, reliable and timely information, you and your business could start to suffer. If you've been listening to my previous podcasts, you know I only include topics that you, as a small business owner need to be aware of to make impact on your business. As a small business owner myself, I know exactly how it feels to have a list of things to do a mile long and of course never enough time in the day to get them all done. I personally make sure I am prioritizing my list to ensure I am at the very least getting the top three things that need to be done that day finished and crossed off my list. With that being said, trust me, I would never tell you to do something if I didn't feel it was important. Today, I am talking about reconciling your business bank accounts. What was that, did you just roll your eyes? Are you thinking this isn't an important topic, and you are not adding reconciling your bank and credit card accounts to your long list of things to get done as a business owner? Every entrepreneur knows they are supposed to set goals -- long term goals, mid term goals, and short goals. Often times they wonder why their goals seem to be just words on the paper seem to materialize and just get rewritten year after year. According to the success principals of Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill, goals must be integrated with desire in order to manifest themselves. In this segment of the Compassionate Capitalist Show - Think & Grow Rich: Desire as a foundation for setting Goals we will explore the fine art of backing your goals and dreams up with desire. Desire for the outcome produces organized thought. And Organized thought leads to actionable plans. The emotion of desire will keep even the most distracted entrepreneur on track for their goals. Karen Rands will have Paul Hoyt as her special guest to discuss integrating desire in to one's goals to achieve a measurable outcome. Paul has spent decades working with the CEOs of both large expanding companies and early stage and start up companies in crafting strategic plans and actionable plans to achieve stated goals. To get more details about all the episodes in this series visit our blog: http://entrepreneurblogspace.com/think-grow-rich/ To get more information from Paul Hoyt and subscribe to his free webinars on all aspects of growing a profitable company visit: http://paulhoyt.com To connect with Karen and learn more, go to http://karenrands.co
A Legacy episode of the Compassionate Capitalist Podcast Series. Karen Rands discusses how a global market impacts entrepreneurs & investors when it comes to predicting the success of an early stage company. The best selling book "The World is Flat" by Thomas Friedman, set forth the premise that business leaders should view the world as a level playing field in terms of commerce, where all competitors have an equal opportunity. Although the book is a decade old, the idea is relevant in todays world just as much back then. In this episode, Karen will explore what this means to entrepreneurs and investors when it comes to launching and growing a company. The ying/yang of a "flat world" is competition & collaboration. When it comes to bringing innovation to market it is easy to think that a company has "no competition". This is rarely the case. The competition may be indirect, shifting the staus quo, or simply in another part of the world that neither the entrepreneur or investor knows about. Not anticipating the existence of competition creates a false sense of safety. Likewise, identifying potential collaboration partners can strengthen a company before they are faced with direct competition to remain in a place of dominance.
