Episode 4 Season 5: You Don't Have to Earn Your Worth

Play Episode Listen Later May 12, 2025 53:43

DescriptionDo you ever feel like there's a specific area of your life where you struggle no matter what you do? I spent years doing all the “right” things—vision boards, affirmations, money mindset work, deep dives into my blocks, all in hopes of becoming someone who deserved abundance. But no matter how hard I worked, nothing changed the way I hoped. The promises of the law of attraction and prosperity gospel started to feel like gaslighting—like if it wasn't working, it must be my fault. I internalized it as failure, as proof that I was broken or cursed when it came to money. And it wasn't just the inner work—I worked hard in external ways too. I built skills, pursued opportunities, worked on professional growth, and still found myself hitting the same walls. It left me questioning my worth and wondering if success was only for people who already felt whole. But I'm learning that healing isn't a prerequisite for success or for being seen, respected, or loved. We don't have to be perfectly aligned or “fixed” to deserve a breakthrough. We can be in process and still be enough. We can be messy and still make progress. Our worth isn't something we have to earn—it's something we carry with us, something God has already give us, even when nothing's working out the way we hoped.Time Stamps Christian Emotional Recovery Resources Podcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry ...

Description:If you're feeling tired from trying to hold everything together perfectly — you're not alone. In today's episode, we're having a real, honest conversation about what it looks like to choose progress over perfection. We'll be looking at it through three lenses: first, how perfectionism shows up for just about everyone when we tie our worth to our performance; second, how it runs even deeper for trauma survivors, where perfection sometimes became a way to stay safe or avoid harm; and third, how even in our Christian walk, perfectionism can quietly slip in and make us feel like we have to earn God's love — when the truth is, His love has never depended on our performance. Each of these journeys is different, but if you see yourself in any of them, know this: you are already loved, already enough, and you are not alone in this fight. Today, we're giving ourselves permission to grow at our own pace, trust God's grace, and celebrate every small, brave step we take.Breakdown of Episode1:17 Intro 3:27 General Perfectionism and Guarding Against Perfectionism21:55 Perfectionism as Christians and Pitfalls to Avoid39:55 Perfectionism as Trauma Survivors and Pitfalls to Avoid62:00 Practices to Overcome PerfectionismSEE RESOURCES HEREChristian Emotional Recovery Resources Podcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry ...

When you've experienced trauma, it can be hard to separate who you are from what you've been through. The way trauma affects the brain can leave you with deep-seated beliefs that you are unworthy, broken, or beyond healing—but that isn't the truth. You can feel like you're always reactive, angry, and afraid. In this episode, we explore how trauma distorts self-perception and how both psychology and faith offer pathways to reclaiming your identity. We'll talk about how the brain forms false narratives around trauma, why healing requires both renewing the mind and restoring the nervous system, and how Scripture speaks directly to our worth and purpose. You'll also get practical exercises—like journaling through a new lens, reframing painful memories with God's presence, and using breath prayers to calm anxiety. If you've ever wrestled with feeling unseen, unworthy, or stuck in old patterns, this episode offers tangible steps to help you reconnect with who you truly are in Christ and in your intrinsic worth. Breakdown of Episode and Resource From Episode: ***CLICK HERE***https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sqq8LjSDlNL4FC0Wac1RTyYn9M820UQ3MvbOlsc2L2E/edit?usp=sharingChristian Emotional Recovery Resources Podcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry ...

Description:In this first episode of the season, we're tackling the impact of words—how well-meaning but uninformed people and abusers use language to dismiss, shame, or control survivors. These statements can keep you stuck in self-doubt and isolation, making it harder to trust yourself and your healing process. We'll break down common phrases that invalidate and gaslight, then reframe them with trauma-informed alternatives that affirm your experiences and support your growth. We break this down into two categories, phrases that well-meaning people who are not trauma-informed say and phrases that abusers use intentionally to cause harm. This episode is about recognizing the harm in these messages, rewriting the narrative, and choosing words that empower instead of diminish. Let's start this season by standing in truth and reclaiming the language of healing so we can live the lives God intended for us.  Breakdown of Episode1:17 Intro and Update on Channel4:05 Intro to Topic and Two Types of Harmful Statements9:03 Harmful Statements Abusers Say & Trauma-Informed Alternatives19:40 Well-Intended but Harmful Statements & Trauma-Informed Alternatives31:23 ClosingSources:Episode Season 4 related to this episode: "Toxic Religious Phrases People Tell Trauma Survivors and What to Tell Yourself Instead."Christian Emotional Recovery Resources Podcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry ...

Description:In this episode, we explore why the holiday season can be uniquely challenging for many, particularly those coping with grief, strained family dynamics, loneliness, trauma, financial stress, or mental health struggles. For many, the holidays are a time of joy, family, and the celebration of the birth of our savior. For others, the holidays can be more complicated. We discuss practical strategies to protect your emotional well-being, such as setting boundaries, managing expectations, creating space for rest and joy, and finding meaningful ways to connect with others. We also discuss how you can help others who may be going through similar challenges. Remember it's okay if you're feeling a lot of emotions during the holidays. Take time to feel these, while also finding ways to feel peace, joy, and comfort where you're at, even if the holidays can be difficult. By addressing these challenges with compassion and by being intentional, you can navigate the season more peacefully and create a sense of hope, safety, and healing for yourself and others, even amidst the challenges of the holidays.Breakdown of Episode1:17 Intro and Why We Are More Vulnerable During the Holidays 16:41 What You Can Do To Protect Yourself, Heal Yourself, and Make The Holidays Better for Yourself and OthersChristian Emotional Recovery Resources Podcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry ...

The following saying resonated with me and inspired this podcast: "You're not healing to be able to handle trauma. You're used to trauma. You're healing to be able to handle joy." Joy is one of the fruits of the spirit and a fruit of our healing labors. God wants us to not only experience joy, but to embody it. We cover why joy is so important in trauma recovery, how to avoid toxic positivity and bypassing when cultivating joy, and how to cultivate more joy in your life with the realities and unique challenges of being a trauma survivor in mind. As a survivor, it can be more challenging to experience joy, but like the rest of healing work, it is a skill that can be learned. Description:Many of us heard growing up that self-care was "selfish" or "ungodly." However, no one can give from an empty well, and even Jesus escaped the crowds for rest, solitude, and time with God. We all need forms of self-care to heal and restore our bodies, minds, and souls. Healing from trauma requires a holistic approach to self-care, addressing all aspects of our well-being. There are six categories of self-care: physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and practical. Each of these can be approached from a Christian perspective, especially for trauma survivors, to promote healing and growth. For survivors, it's crucial to approach these categories of self-care with patience and self-compassion. Healing is a gradual process, and integrating these practices into daily life can help rebuild a sense of safety, control, and well-being. Additionally, anchoring these practices in faith can provide a deep sense of purpose and connection throughout the healing journey.Breakdown of Episode1:17 Intro to New Episode 3:04 Why Self-Care Is Important6:30 The Six Types of Self-Care18:52 Six Types of Self-Care From a Christian Perspective and for Trauma Recovery CLICK HERE FOR SOURCES: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JboZhwkIuEphtEeaQ-8jyLGHWv804Zk5LMMg-iWduLo/edit?usp=sharingChristian Emotional Recovery Resources Podcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry ...

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 24, 2024 64:58

Episode DescriptionIn Coming out of the F.O.G., we discuss the acronym, Fear, Obligation, and Guilt, which creates the acronym F.O.G. Much like the word "fog," emotional manipulators will often use fear, obligation, and guilt to confuse and control people, particularly those who are sensitive, compassionate, empathetic, and may be prone to codependency. This can make sensitive Christians especially vulnerable, since they tend have a strong level of conscientiousness. Manipulators like to use tactics that will make others question themselves and their motives, often using gaslighting to keep the other person off balance. Though we are called by God to help others, it's important we examine our motives. If others are exploiting our good will with guilt to get us to do things, this is not from God. Knowing the strategies that emotional blackmailers use will help you to identify their tactics, respond constructively, protect yourself, and get your life back, so you can live the life God intended you to live. Episode DescriptionThis week, this episode reminds you of your worth, both in Christ and your intrinsic worth. Your value comes from both the fact that you are in Christ and that you are you. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we are worthy, that we have unconditional value at our core, and that nothing that has happened to us or that we feel changes that. We may have been programmed with trauma, but our worth and core identity is still the same. Just as God and His love for us don't change, neither does our worthiness. We matter, we are loved, and God loves us, and sometimes we just need to remember this. ResourcesEpisodes Mentioned in the PodcastErikson's Stages of Development and Adverse Childhood ExperiencesWhy We Need to Take a More integrated Approach in our TheologyChristian Emotional Recovery ResourcesPodcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry Donate One-Time Through Ko-FiHelp More Trauma Survivors Throu...

The unique nature of this kind of abuse is often unnoticed or not believed by outsiders. However, by learning to identify and understand these forms of abuse, we are able to understand what is happening to us if we are in a situation with hidden and subtle abuse, while distinguishing between abuse and normal human flaws in a relationship that we all have. When we can identify these forms of abuse and call them by their name, we can validate our experiences, know our experiences are real, seek help and resources that can help us untangle this confusion, and get our lives back  so we can find clarity and safety in our lives, living the life God intended us to live. Breakdown of Episode1:17 Intro 6:00 Intro to Subtle Forms and Types of Abuse10:25 What Are Some of the Subtle Signs of Abuse? 27:06 Why Are Subtle Forms of Abuse Easy to Miss?50:07 Subtle Abuse in Churches Religious Communities 52:55 How to Detect and Heal Subtle Forms of Abuse To view resources, go HERE. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HKq9dBS-VXjFYkAT2mdOcjNKAfL5B6fC4Mz8czio-c0/edit?usp=sharingChristian Emotional Recovery ResourcesPodcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry Donate One-Time Through Ko-FiHelp More Trauma Survivors Throu...

Episode DescriptionIn Trauma Reenactments, we discuss what trauma reenactments are, why they happen, and practices to help us identify, stop, and prevent them from happening again. Trauma reenactments are patterns we repeat again and again similar to traumas in the past. They can be pervasive and difficult to notice, because we may believe they are "just the way things are." But they're not. While these patterns are not our fault, if we are able to identify these reenactments, be honest about what they are and where they come from, and create more space between a trigger and a reaction, we are able to gain power over the moment when a trauma reenactment starts to occur, or to stop one that is already occurring. By changing our reaction, we create a new habit, which allows us to heal our trauma reenactments and create space for positive and healthy habits, responses, and relationships in our lives. Breakdown of Episode1:17 Intro 4:21 Intro to Trauma Reenactments6:49 What Are Trauma Reenactments and Why Do They Occur?11:14 Why Do Trauma Reenactments Occur?20:56 Reenactments in Close Relationships25:52 What Are Ways to Heal, Prevent, and Overcome Reenactments? 40:53 Practices to Help You Heal Trauma ReenactmentsTo view sources, go HERE:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eUDTXEehuW_3U6lL9POSvA2bJQI_t7McxIN-4E3p2xA/edit?usp=sharing Christian Emotional Recovery ResourcesPodcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on Podcast Christian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry Donate One-Time Through Ko-FiHelp More Trauma Survivors Throu...

This episode discusses the deep power of shame, what it does to us, and how pervasive it can be on an unconscious level, including the difference between guilt and shame. Guilt states "I made a mistake," and shame states, "I am bad" or "there's something wrong with me." We discuss how it's important to distinguish these two and become aware of our shame. Episode DescriptionDon't Make Trauma Your Whole Identity, discusses how trauma survivors have their entire brains rewired when they experience trauma. As a result, when we become aware of what has happened to us and start our healing journey, it can be challenging not to make trauma our entire identity. It's easy to get into a loop of overidentifying with trauma and what has happened to us, to the point we can get stuck. This isn't our fault, but we can do something about it. By separating our core identity with what happened to us, and by rewriting our identity, we can start to move past the trauma and not get stuck in this loop. No doubt, trauma impacts our identity, how we think, and how we live day to day, including how our "default mode network," or the part of our brain involved in identity, operates. However, how we relate to trauma, think about it, and work toward recovery can help us build a strong identity outside of our trauma. Additionally, knowing who we are in Christ and what God says about our identity helps us build a strong core self, so we can build a healthy identity separate and free from our trauma. Breakdown of Episode1:17 Info About Podcast5:16 How Trauma Can Become Our Entire Identity13:54 What is Identity? 16:37 Rewriting Your Identity28:14 What Is the Default Mode Network? 33:47 How Does Trauma Impact Identity?41:40 How We Think About Trauma to Move on From It46:46 What Does God Say About Healing our Identity? GO HERE FOR SOURCES https://docs.google.com/document/d/15JybwJM2RcEKSxLhd-k7bacXMTafKAeeeJraln9JDhw/edit?usp=sharingChristian Emotional Recovery ResourcesPodcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on PodcastChristian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry Donate One-Time Through Ko-FiHelp More Trauma Survivors Thr...

Similarly, learned helplessness is "a condition in which a person has a sense of powerlessness, arising from a traumatic event or persistent failure to succeed. Episode DescriptionRethinking Our Thoughts Part I: What Are Cognitive Distortions and How Can I Overcome Them? discusses how hope is not just something we have in Christ, but is also something we can cultivate on the healing journey, even if we're feeling hopeless. We learn hope by practicing it daily. Investing in our healing and taking daily steps toward progress today can give us hope for the future. Think about a time you made good choices or cultivated healthy daily habits in the past that you are benefitting from now. Now connect this experience to a current difficulty. If you make good choices now, you are giving yourself something to look forward to and hope to your future self. However, the process cannot be forced. It's accepting our difficult emotions with compassion--and not forcing healing--that moves us forward in hope. But the path doesn't always appear on its own. While these may not be completely separated, carving out a space for each separately, as much as we're able, is important. The episode also discusses how to use discernment in the healing practices you use and  to follow what God is telling you to do and give other people the grace and space to do the same. Everyone's healing journey and relationship with God is unique. Through discernment, in the practices we choose to do, we have agency under God's authority. While we are called to be part of the flock and respect the church, remember it's okay to explore different churches, practices, and congregations, with your relationship with Christ and healing journey in mind. Description:The most downloaded episode in the history of the podcast has been Season 2, Episode 12: Childhood Emotional Neglect: A Hidden Epidemic, so there's a need to understand CEN further. What's Childhood Emotional Neglect Got to Do With Abandonment Trauma? discusses the impact of childhood emotional neglect (CEN)  on survivors by exploring the connection between CEN and fear of abandonment. Seeing this connection can be the difference between a life of confusion, gaslighting, and bondage, and power, freedom, and clarity. We discuss the nature of CEN and how it is not always intentional or malicious, but it's nature is insidious because it's hidden. It's the most likely form of abuse to be denied, invalidated, and doubted since it is abuse by omission instead of commission. CEN can make us doubt our own reality. Episode Description:Why You Need to Be Gentle With Yourself on This Journey is a talk God put on my heart after encountering so many trauma survivors who struggle with their faith because of harsh treatment from people within the Christian community regarding their struggles. Many people have not only not received compassion, love, and understanding, but they've been blamed for their trauma. We're often taught not to have compassion for ourselves, and not following the fruits of the spirit of gentleness, meekness, lowliness, and kindness to others is rampant even in the Christian community. There is oftentimes even narcissism and abuse within the church. This talk calls for us to be kinder and gentler with ourselves on the healing journey, as we are called to be with others, to give ourselves a little credit for our progress, and to learn to take a gentle approach when navigating the healing journey.  Breakdown of Episode0:00 Intro4:13 Intro to Episode and Why Gentleness is So Important When Healing7:11 What Happens When There's No Gentleness in Religious Communities 15:48 Why It's Important to Be Gentle With Ourselves Episode Resources: The Publican and the Pharisee Luke 18:9-14 To donate monthly and support the work we're doing go to Patreon to give monthly and Ko-Fi to give a one-time donation. To see all podcast resources, go HERE.  Christian Emotional Recovery ResourcesPodcast WebsiteAccess Episodes, Get Free Resources, and More Facebook GroupJoin Community, Get Support, and Get Weekly Encouragement YouTube ChannelSubscribe for Exclusive Material Not on PodcastChristian Emotional Recovery StoreGet meditations, infographics, journals, and other resources for your healing journey Trauma SurvivorsCheck out Resources Page for Trauma Survivors Email ListGet updates on episodes, platform, resources, and products Free ResourceFree Visual A.C.O.R.N Resource to Heal Difficult Emotions Donate Monthly Through PatreonHelp More Trauma Survivors Through This Ministry Donate One-Time Through Ko-FiHelp More Trauma Survivors Thr...

Description:A lot of trauma survivors have been told that they "should just be grateful," as if they can flip a switch, turn off trauma in the body, and suddenly feel grateful. Gratitude for a survivor is more complex than that. We can be grateful, but it needs to be in a way that works with our nervous system, realistic for where we're at, and a natural choice, not forced. We do this by being gentle with ourselves, practicing self-compassion, and acknowledging honestly where we're at. This episode discusses the benefits of gratitude, how it can help heal trauma, and realistic ways you can practice gratitude or at least be one step closer to gratitude through self-compassion. Doing the best you can is enough. God knows you're doing your best. As we learn to cultivate real gratitude, we're able to see God more in our situation, practice concrete gratitude that heals trauma, and see benefits of gratitude manifest in our lives. Episode Resources: Here's a coupon for almost 1/2 off my gratitude course "Ignite Your Abundance Through the Power of Gratitude", which can help you cultivate concrete practices of gratitude to heal trauma and live a better life.CLICK HERE FOR FULL SHOW NOTESPodcast Website (with episodes and where you can join email list) https://christianemotionalrecovery.com The podcast does take time and money. Episode 5 Season Three: The Four Trauma Responses and How to Heal Them

Play Episode Listen Later May 8, 2023 59:25

Episode Description: In The Four Trauma Responses and How to Heal Them we discuss the four major ways our bodies respond to trauma. Fight, flight, freeze, and fawn are the main ways people who've experienced trauma respond to extreme stress and traumatic situations. Everyone has these responses to some degree, and they are healthy in certain situations. Fight, flight, freeze, and fawn serve a purpose in protecting us in stressful or dangerous situations, but if we have sustained experiences in these states, we can stay stuck in these states, because the nervous system gets overstimulated by stress and trauma. By understanding the four responses to trauma and which ones you might be more prone tone, you can begin to identify how you respond to trauma and take action to become aware of, work on, and overcome your responses from the ground up. The key here is partly changing behavior, and the other key is to find out what your response is, where it comes from, and heal it at the root. Check Sources, Episode Timeline, and Channel Resources HERE:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wj6TH6gMq8oWGVOaOp7XBaqIZx13KJr6I54Ivtd2AJc/edit?usp=sharingPodcast Website (with episodes and where you can join email list) https://christianemotionalrecovery.com The podcast does take time and money. Check out and subscribe to the channel (link below) which has mostly original material different from the podcast.  DARVO, or Deny Attack Reverse Victim and Offender, is an acronym for how toxic people will often manipulate others if they are confronted about an issue or wrongdoing. If you've ever been in this situation, you may confront an abuser, manipulator, or narcissist about their behavior, and somehow by the end of the conversation, you're the one apologizing to them. This tactic is tricky and deceitful. By learning about DARVO and  how it works, you can empower and protect yourself if someone uses this gaslighting technique on you. This talk discusses who is most likely to use DARVO and why, who it targeted and why, how to recognize DARVO, circumstances when DARVO is most used, and impacts of DARVO on the victim and on groups. Then we discuss how to identify, respond to, and protect yourself from this tactic so you can take your power back and live the life God intended for you. Podcast Website (with episodes and where you can join email list) https://christianemotionalrecovery.com The podcast does take time and money. The role God plays in our recovery is everything. Some will say if you aren't recovering from difficult emotions, trauma, depression, anxiety, or abuse, you don't have enough faith in God or you're not doing enough of something, but most of the time, this simply isn't true. It's both our relationship with God and the scientific modalities that target trauma at its source combined, that help us make progress in recovery. While this is true, our real, relevant relationship with God lights the way, and as we heal, the holes we punch in our trauma let the light and love of God in, so we can live the vivid and beautiful life God meant for us, in full living color. No Sources for This EpisodeBreakdown of Episode 0:00 Intro: What's Happening on the Channel5:32 Intro to Topic: How Faith and Science Play a Role in Trauma Recovery10:39 Real12:46  Relevant18:23 Relationship23:04 How Clearing Trauma Lets in God's Love 29:56 ClosingPodcast Website (with episodes and where you can join email list) https://christianemotionalrecovery.com The podcast does take time and money. Episode Description: How Internal Family Systems Can Help You Heal Trauma describes a therapy called IFS for short, what IFS is, how it can help you heal trauma and difficult emotions, and how you can use this therapy for your own healing journey with a therapist or on your own. We learn about how IFS is broken down into parts and self, how these parts and self interact based on your past experiences, and how you can relate to these parts and self to help you heal emotionally. By learning how your mind works through this process, you have a way go inside the roots of your thoughts, emotions, and trauma and understand how they function. With this understanding, you can relate to yourself and parts with more compassion, deal with past experiences with more awareness, and build an identity that is strong, more integrated, and healthy, so you can live the life God made you to live. Sources: These articles introduce you to the concept of IFS, how IFS was created, and how it work in a therapeutic setting. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapy-types/internal-family-systems-therapyhttps://psychcentral.com/health/internal-family-systems-therapyhttps://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-ifs-therapy-internal-family-systems-therapy-5195336In this YouTube, Richard Schwartz explains in his own words how IFS works and describes parts and self. https://ifs-institute.com/about-us/richard-c-schwartz-phdThese articles were used in the podcast to break down how IFS works in more detail--including the parts and self, the 8 C's, 5 P's, and 6 F'-- and how you can use these to manage different types of parts and distinguish self from parts.https://foundationifs.org/images/banners/pdf/The_8_Cs_of_Self_Leadership_Wheel.pdfhttps://www.pesi.com/blog/details/1511/6-step-ifs-process-to-jumpstart-healingPodcast Website (with episodes and where you can join email list) https://christianemotionalrecovery.com The podcast does take time and money. Welcome back! Twelve Steps Recovery and How it Can Help You Heal Trauma and Abuse is the first episode of the new season. Most people are familiar with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and how it helps those recovering from alcohol misuse, but many people don't know there are programs for other forms of recovery. We'll discuss what twelve-step programs are, how they can help those not only in addiction recovery, but in emotional recovery as well. There is a direct link between addiction and trauma, and many addictions have traumatic and psychological roots. Trauma and codependency recovery programs have their roots in original twelve-step programs like AA. We'll discuss four twelve step programs--Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Codependents Anonymous (CoDA), Celebrate Recovery, and Al-Anon--and what each one does, who each helps, how each can help you, and how these programs can strengthen your faith in God. Then we'll discuss how addiction and trauma recovery have similarities when it comes to behavior, causes, and relapses, as well as strategies to stay on the path to recovery. Lastly, we'll discover how the steps in these programs can help you cut the roots of trauma and addiction in your life for good. Breakdown of Episode0:00 Intro to the Year6:22 Introduction to the Topic and When to Get Help10:47 Four Different Twelve-Step Programs 36:13 What's the Connection Between Trauma and Addiction?: It's All About RecoveryEpisode Resources: CoDA PageCoDA 12 StepsCelebrate Recovery Page Celebrate Recovery 12 StepsAl-Anon pageAl-Anon 12 StepsAlcoholics Anonymous PageAlcoholics Anonymous 12 StepsTypes of 12-Step Program--these are more chemically based.12-Step Programs--these are broader.Podcast Website (with episodes and join email list)https://christianemotionalrecovery.comCheck out the Patreon page to support the work we're doing https://www.patreon.com/christianemotionalrecovery?fan_landing=trueCheck out my website where the Christian Emotional Recovery store will be housed and check out the writing courses that can help your writing stand out! This talk discusses what healthy boundaries are and what they are not. In the first half, we discuss what a boundary is using Henry Cloud's metaphor of property lines and why setting healthy boundaries is not only okay, but healthy. Setting boundaries is not selfish. You must set healthy boundaries to be a functional human being and to build loving relationships. We also discuss ways setting boundaries helps us obey God and consider others' needs. In order to set good boundaries, you need to understand the value of your own agency, autonomy, and individuality. Through this episode, we discuss who we might set boundaries with, reasons we don't set boundaries, differences between people with healthy boundaries and those without good boundaries, and ten specific strategies to set healthy boundaries. This video will help you learn to take care of yourself and love who God made you to be.Resources: 10 Ways to Build and Preserve Better Boundaries in Psych Central by Shannon Martin, LCSW is an article I reference in the video that discusses what boundaries are, why they are necessary, why we are afraid to set boundaries, strategies to set them, and specific scenarios that give examples of healthy boundary setting. Boundaries: When to Say YES and When to Say NO to Take Control of Your Life by Henry Cloud and Peter Townsend was mentioned as a recommended book to go more into detail with setting healthy boundaries in different situations and with different people. How to Set Boundaries YouTube video with Dr. Henry Cloud is the video I mention that uses property lines as an apt metaphor for setting good boundaries. How to Set Boundaries: Five Ways to Draw the Line Politely by Logan Bailey on Science of People is another article that I mentioned in the talk that discusses areas of our lives that need protection with boundaries, people with whom we might set boundaries, differences between healthy and unhealthy ones, and strategies for setting good boundaries. Further Resources:***The STORE is OPEN!***  https://app.podia.com/products/a-c-o-r-n-meditation-bundlePodcast Website, subscribe to podcast, free resource, email list. https://christianemotionalrecovery.com.Patreon Link, to support other trauma survivors and the podcast, become a patron, and get exclusives you can't get anywhere else https://www.patreon.com/christianemotionalrecovery Subscribe to Youtube for exclusive NEW videos and free meditations https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4a5jGXZ0-qzPINAspnLwPw

Understanding this system will help you know why trauma gets stuck in the body, and you can become aware of these states and start practicing specific techniques to stay in a regulated state. This video includes visuals based on established research to clarify how polyvagal theory works, and how you can apply its concepts to your own life. This will help you release trauma from your body, recondition your body, brain, mind, and nervous system into a relaxed state, and help you understand what is going on inside of you.Video Description for " Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Trauma Recovery":Vagus Nerve Stimulation is one way to help regulate your nervous system and heal trauma in the body. The Vagus Nerve, based on Polyvagal Theory regulates several systems in the body including our response to certain stimuli. If we get stuck in fight or fight or disassociation for extended periods of time because chronic abuse, trauma, and adverse experiences, it can cause damage to our vagus nerve. Vagus nerve stimulation exercises and practices can help you begin to tone and heal the vagus nerve so it functions properly. Healing the vagus nerve can help your body function better, help your body deal with stress better, and help you release trauma that has been stuck in the body. Before watching this video, I strongly recommend watching the video "Applying Polyvagal Theory to Heal Trauma" on this channel as a foundation of knowledge to understand this video better.
